A Kind Family Who Adopted Six Children From China | Extreme Makeover Home Edition

- In Tallahassee, Florida, Barbara and her husband George adopted six children from China. Two had seeing and hearing disabilities, one was born with bones missing from his hand and a girl who had been abandoned when she was young, along with the one child they already had. George was a dentist at a prison while Barbara worked as a teacher's aid. 3 years after, George was diagnosed with brain cancer. After chemo and surgery, the cancer came back. He was forced to quit his job and the family of nine had to live on disability and whatever money Barbara could get being a teacher's aid, which was not enough to cover all of the family's expenses. The night before the camera crew got to the location, George was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He had lost his vision and was placed in intensive care. Three days after the family got their new home, George Kadzis died. At the end of the show, a quick video was shown of George, made up from clips from the family's application video, and an "In Memory of..." graphic at the end of the video

I've read before a lot of the families lost their homes as they couldn't afford to maintain them, the show built completely unnecessary houses that families yhat were already struggling simply couldn't afford them
Unfortunately most of them lost these homes due to the mortgages due to the high costs of these renovations

George held on until he knew his family was OK... he left knowing that they had a beautiful, safe home to grow together in. Thank God for this amazing team who blessed George with his last wish, they allowed him to rest easy.

November 2022 - 13 years since George died and this show was made - all the children are adults now - hopefully they have all found their way in the world and that Barbara has come through the ordeal of her great loss.
I was thinking the same thing. I would love to see a where are they how are they doing follow up on all of the people helped by this show. May you always be blessed.

I didn't know 13yrs have passed, I was just talking to my self that atleast she still has 10-15yrs with the kids not knowing that such an amount of years have passed.

I love how Barbara is so present with everything. She really knows how to share her feelings and express her gratitude in a meaningful way. That's a real skill.
I am a practicing catholic, and i believe we all need one another to survive. Our Bible teaches LOVE is the most important virtue of all and the Team here expresses that love in what they do to help. Just when l thought it couldn't tug at my heart strings any further Stevie Wonder shows up and l thought ok its over for me now 😢, then he changes the words 😢😢, then Barbara signing 😢😢😢 and l hear and see and l feel her pain and love and in my heart I'm thanking Stevie for taking the time to do this 😢😢😢😢 ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. No you were not. My husband walked in the Wintergarten when I was watching this and said “So, I see you chose the “bawling my eyes out” route this morning”.
My response was, bawling even harder.
Well, that was the heaviest show I've ever seen from Ty and his team, I've always had tears in my eyes with each one, but this one had waterfalls in my eyes.
I admire and have respect for the family, adopting 6 children from China and already had a son, what I deeply regret is that the father George got cancer and unfortunately lost the fight after chemo and surgery (God bless him) .
even if i don't understand english, but the expressions on the faces can be read in any language and that's perfectly sufficient for me.

I always cried with every one of these I have ever watched….but this one made me cry like a baby! 😭 I think I went through a half a box of tissue. God bless Ty, design team, and ABC for making this happen. This family so deserves it…and dad got his dying wish fulfilled! ♥️♥️♥️

It's so heartbreaking because the father lost his battle with cancer, but I'm happy for the help that the team and everyone in the community extended to the family.
Somehow i knew he would pass away when they got their house. His soul got peace knowing his family will be safe and his kids will be happy. May he rest in peace. 14 years later..
If anyone reading this has the ability, the heart, and resources to adopt and give a home to a child who doesn’t have one, please do it. One of my cousin were adopted from China, so this hits so close to home. This family is so deserving of this, and it’s a real shame that George passed away so early. I really hope that he’s looking down on his kids now and feeling extremely proud of who they’ve become.
It is so amazing for all the children and i am so happy for all of them that they had been adopted by an awesome couple and i am so sad that the father was lost from his battle of this dread desease called cancer May he rest in peace God bless him

He just waited for the team to finish renovate the house before he can go, he just want to make sure that his family is in good hands. Until the end he just want to be a loving husband and father. At least he can now rest in peace knowing that his family will never be in hard time because of their old house. Congrats team! You fulfill the dying man's last wish. And for the family condolences. You lost your husband/dad but you gain one angel. He gain his wings now, he is now promoted from being a loving husband/dad to an angel. No more pain.

These are the most loveable kids. The oldest brother is an amazing young man. They are as special as both the parents.
These kids didn't have parents, got adopted, and then lost a parent again. Life can be so unfair. I hope they had a good life after the show.
It takes a real man and woman to take in other people's children. You will have to be so unselfish in your love and treatment like they were your own birth children. God Bless such people.

This broke my heart with sadness but also joy, I cried the whole way thru full well knowing that George wouldn't make it as I have had a very very dear friend die from this non curable, insidious disease brain cancer. I totally lost it when Stevie Wonder played his beautiful song " I just called to say I love you' altering the lyrics as a song from George to his family . So wonderful and 💔 'g all in the same breath. Bless xo
