R/T Life 40whp is a lot more than I’ve ever heard from long tubes. It should be more along the lines of 20-25whp. 40whp is cam territory. Shorties should be around 10-15whp. But I’m eagerly awaiting your dyno results!

I did a lot of research on headers two years ago for 5.7 hemi. I myself went with flowmaster shorty because they were the only header at the time that had what i needed. First of all shorties are better on the street. 2. I wanted ceramic coating because it keeps under hood temps few hundred degrees cooler (see video by engine masters about ceramic coating).3. Must have no over spray or welds in ports to slow down flow (JBA has this problem). 4 must have correct D shaped ports to match eagle heads on 2009 up most do not have this (I can see in this video they are round) 5.must have beading around ports on the flange that sticks out a little this helps with the seal as it sinks in gasket better than all flat. 6. Most important use stock OEM Mopar gasket it is lot better than paper ones and it has heat deflector.
Great no leaks yet I was going to re-snug them up once but have not got around to it. They still look brand new..Your car sounds great ! I have super 10s but I only drive it on weekend if I drove it more I would get 40s or super 44s...Love the sound of flowmasters.

Nope - I think AWD is different. I went with hooker because they're a much better brand & hand crafted. They tend to be welded better along with fit better so no leaks. I need to try a throttle body, right now I hear some say they're awesome & others say it's a waste
i heard Shorty header would fit but long will not. If i'm able to get shorties will in need a tune right away. i haven't crossed over yet to a unlock pcm. Still a little worried about my mopar life time warranty.

I didn't have a tune loaded up right away after my shorty headers, no codes or anything. Shorty headers are a direct replacement. That being said, not sure it's worth it for you in a 392. The stock exhaust manifold is basically shorty headers - so you will likely not see any real performance gains.
@@RTLife given the track record of the bolt-on mods that I did for my first Scat Pack (Borla cat-back, and AFE intake) all without a tune, I really don't suspect much gain either....but the suspense is killing me to at least try something different this go around. I'll leave it stock for a while now just to simply enjoy the car for what it is but I'll keep you updated when I do....

They used to for the 3.5L V6 - it really sucks that isn't an option for you guys. I would ask a performance shop to make a completely custom dual exhaust for it.
My only… question… is about under hood temps being that the Blackhearts are a raw (or in the white as the 1911 crowd would say) finish. For as long as you had them… Did anything melt? Did your IAT’s head off to Saturn?
That tune is going to be key - just for my own pleasure I will be playing with the diablo myself & then get the custom tune in a couple of weeks. This stuff is so much fun.

where are hooker headers made is it the united states? and is there a spot in them for the o2 senor to be placed in and also what made you choose these over the jba ceramic coated ones ?
I believe they are hand crafted in the US. The Shorty headers replace the stock manifolds so the o2 sensor stays in place, no customizing needed. I went with Hooker because they are the highest quality header at least from what I have heard. They are Stainless Steel & have very high quality welds so the headers should not leak or have any issues.
R/T Life well that's good they are made here but I heard the ceramic coating in what keeps the heat inside the header I wish these came with some kind of coating would definitely pay the extra price for it but do you know what header gaskets and bolts you used for the install?

thanks man I appreciate it! Yup, they're a direct replacement for the stock exhaust manifold. The 02 censor is part of the mid pipes which is why when you get long tubes you will get check engine lights until a tune is applied. This is a simple bolt on replacement unlike the long tube headers.

Sounds great man. I love that you got them on man. Now when you get the opportunity you gotta get a high flow exhaust. I know it's on the list but I am telling Ya I would t be shocked if a good 2.5-3.0" exhaust will be the biggest butt Dyno gain you feel. Especially tuned. Can't wait for that project to happen. I bought them at my local performance shop - you can get them online though. If you're looking to save $$$ you can always get the SRT exhaust manifolds - basically the same as shorty headers, just an idea
Make sure you add on a CAI while doing that or else you might end up losing power at lower end. But with adequate amount of air gushing in, things should be okay.
I haven't messed around with the tuner yet - yes I will be doing a data log & likely getting or trying a custom email tune at some point. If I don't like it then a dyno tune will happen
Hey R/T. I really don't plan on getting a custom tune for my wide body scat pack anytime soon...if at all. I merely just want to experiment with a different bolt-on modification than what I did with my 2016 scat pack. that said will i run into any CODE issues or will it be safe to try?Any difference at all at WOT? I wouldn't bother getting shorty headers, you will not see any performance gains. That being said, it's a direct fit so no codes will pop up. I drove with my headers on for a couple of weeks before getting the tune.

Great job on the shorties. Just finished my install yesterday (Flowmaster shorties). Didn't notice a big sound change, but definitely better throttle response.

Wonder how they would sound on my 15 SP Chally? I got a 15 R/T charger too but it's more a visual modded car. Beauty (R/T) and The Beast (392). Hope to get a channel up and running. Any advice on that?
I'm sure this would make that 392 sound even more like a beast! it's def a solid upgrade that will not kill off the bank account. The best advice I can give you with starting a channel is post often & interact with many of the other channels similar to yours. Looking forward to seeing those 2 Hemi's.

I was looking at getting the Hooker Blackheart longtubes, even the shorties sound great. Im guessing chose shorties so you didnt need to get too invasive on the exhaust mods?
I chose shorty headers because I loved the idea of gaining the hp/torque on the lower end also it allows me to play with the diablo before getting a custom tune. The other thing to keep in mind is long tubes lower the clearance of the car & can easily get messed up on a daily driver. The benefits of the shorty headers far out weighed the long tubes for what I'm doing with this car. If the RT was a 2nd car or being set up for the 1/4 mile the long tubes are the way to go.

I noticed on the highway how smooth the acceleration was - def a nice upgrade so far. The tune will really get this thing to another level though I think

The clearance is the same - this header was straight up bolt on. Take the stock manifold off & plug this on. I got the Charger out nice & early so I could get a little open road for some driving! Very rare to see so much open road by me but so much fun hahaha - def a nice upgrade & looking forward to the custom tune to see how this upgrade improves the dyno results.

Shorty is good for the low end power the 5.7 lacks. Going LTs on the 5.7 will help a lot up top, but usually hurts down low. Translation: LTs make the R/T an even bigger pig off the line unless you have gears or a cam.
RZT Peformance Long Island, NY installed them. Everything ended up costing me around $1300. just need a custom tune on this thing & it will be an absolute beast

I have a 2017 Challenger R/T 6 speed i live in niagara falls on canada, i have been talking to a mopar only performance shop in the area. the shop has recommended the following mods, hellcat headers and hellcat exhaust system with a muffler delete. the shop also recommends a diablo trinity with pcm and a hellcat cold air system. i am assuming the hellcat headers will wake up the sound of the exhaust so i am not really sure if i want to do the muffler delete because i dont want the car to be so loud. Before buying the headers you bought did you consider hellcat headers. All the best and thanks for the info and hard work you do for this channel chris
So they want you to get the full Hellcat exhaust & intake system with a T2/unlocked PCM. That's a nice setup, how much would all of that run you? Also is the performance shop going to give you a custom tune with the upgrades? I never thought about getting the hellcat exhaust setup, was kicking around the idea of the 392 though. This shop is unique because it is a mopar performance shop that is attached and owned by the dodge dealer. The cost for the headers and exhaust including a 180 thermostat installed would be 2500.00. PCM upgrade with the diablo trinty and custom tune keeping the warranty in place would be 1600.00. This is canadian price i was looking at Borla exhaust only, no headers and that was 2200. cdn alone so the shop said we do better for less???? i guess they all say that lol
I love the upgrades but do you plan on addressing the shitty brakes that come on our Charger RT's? I think people neglect that part. What goes fast must slow down....

I know we've been trying to get them for awhile, you beat me to it... lol I've been researching tunes and it's a toss up between Jay Green and Hemifever, with a slight edge going towards HF; due to reputation with Chargers. I'd love to try Jay, but from what I'm seeing he mostly do trucks... What do you think, or what's your opinion?
I'm in the same boat, only difference is I will likely end up getting both. I haven't decided which one I will be going with 1st, both have amazing reviews. Growls Garage just did a Jay Greene tune & said it's amazing. For $175-200 it's worth every penny to me testing them both out & leaving feedback for everyone. WIth long tube headers, heads n cams with custom tune , you can get somewhere between 80-100 hp.

I will end up passing but each state is a little different
Diablo is a tuner you can tune it your self just record a log and you can adjust your lean rich within rpm ranges
I'm going to mess around with it at some point - just need to set aside some time. There is a lot of cool stuff you can do with this diablo

When you say custom tune you mean get a tuner like diablosport, or take it to a shop and get it tuned.

I hear some of these mufflers cracking and popping when they down shift or let off the gas that is not mean that is shitty muffler.

I went with BBK shorty on my 06 RT and love them. Added X pipe and 2 Cherry bombs. All the sound you could want.

If you have a 392, don't waste your money on shortys. It's long tube or nothing, your stock exhaust manifold are basically shorties.

They used to for the 3.5L V6 - it really sucks that isn't an option for you guys. I would ask a performance shop to make a completely custom dual exhaust for it.

That tune is going to be key - just for my own pleasure I will be playing with the diablo myself & then get the custom tune in a couple of weeks. This stuff is so much fun.
When I had my predator I used to play with the Lightnings tune. Dump in some race gas and turn up the timing and let it eat. So much fun.

where are hooker headers made is it the united states? and is there a spot in them for the o2 senor to be placed in and also what made you choose these over the jba ceramic coated ones ?
I believe they are hand crafted in the US. The Shorty headers replace the stock manifolds so the o2 sensor stays in place, no customizing needed. I went with Hooker because they are the highest quality header at least from what I have heard. They are Stainless Steel & have very high quality welds so the headers should not leak or have any issues.
R/T Life well that's good they are made here but I heard the ceramic coating in what keeps the heat inside the header I wish these came with some kind of coating would definitely pay the extra price for it but do you know what header gaskets and bolts you used for the install?
They ended up using the the gaskets & bolts that hooker provides. That's one of the reasons I went with hooker, everything they provide it top notch.

I am planning on doing myself, the Holley website has the "not street legal disclaimer " but the headers have the O2 sensor correct? It Looks like it from the video. ...the disclaimer does not scare me just confimring the direct fit to the factory cats on the 5.7. ( 2014 RT plus, super track pack, 6 speed) thanks in advance
thanks man I appreciate it! Yup, they're a direct replacement for the stock exhaust manifold. The 02 censor is part of the mid pipes which is why when you get long tubes you will get check engine lights until a tune is applied. This is a simple bolt on replacement unlike the long tube headers.

Sounds great man. I love that you got them on man. Now when you get the opportunity you gotta get a high flow exhaust. I know it's on the list but I am telling Ya I would t be shocked if a good 2.5-3.0" exhaust will be the biggest butt Dyno gain you feel. Especially tuned. Can't wait for that project to happen. Love seeing the progression man.

I bought them at my local performance shop - you can get them online though. If you're looking to save $$$ you can always get the SRT exhaust manifolds - basically the same as shorty headers, just an idea

R/T Life I already have done you should do it deletes a lot of restriction in the exhaust and has a drastic increase in sound you’ll love it
I have the flowmasters in place of the stock ones & then the resonators deleted. It's a decent setup, sounds nice & deep
R/T Life yea I have a 2018 so my car already came with aes but I like it loud 😂
Make sure you add on a CAI while doing that or else you might end up losing power at lower end. But with adequate amount of air gushing in, things should be okay.
Can’t wait for the Dyno results. It would be awesome to compare the Dyno with the performance pages HP and tourque meter.

I haven't messed around with the tuner yet - yes I will be doing a data log & likely getting or trying a custom email tune at some point. If I don't like it then a dyno tune will happen

Hey R/T. I really don't plan on getting a custom tune for my wide body scat pack anytime soon...if at all. I merely just want to experiment with a different bolt-on modification than what I did with my 2016 scat pack. that said will i run into any CODE issues or will it be safe to try?Any difference at all at WOT? I wouldn't bother getting shorty headers, you will not see any performance gains. That being said, it's a direct fit so no codes will pop up. I drove with my headers on for a couple of weeks before getting the tune.

Great job on the shorties. Just finished my install yesterday (Flowmaster shorties). Didn't notice a big sound change, but definitely better throttle response.
yah it's not a massive difference but I think with a tune it will be much more noticeable. The shorties are awesome though right? I'm glad I went with them
Wonder how they would sound on my 15 SP Chally? I got a 15 R/T charger too but it's more a visual modded car. Beauty (R/T) and The Beast (392). Hope to get a channel up and running. Any advice on that?
I'm sure this would make that 392 sound even more like a beast! it's def a solid upgrade that will not kill off the bank account. The best advice I can give you with starting a channel is post often & interact with many of the other channels similar to yours. Looking forward to seeing those 2 Hemi's.
R/T Life really worried about clearance of long tubes. No ones shows that on their videos. Back away view once car is on the ground. Sound and numbers are key but clearance shotsl. Thanks for the advice on starting the channel.

I was looking at getting the Hooker Blackheart longtubes, even the shorties sound great. Im guessing chose shorties so you didnt need to get too invasive on the exhaust mods?
I chose shorty headers because I loved the idea of gaining the hp/torque on the lower end also it allows me to play with the diablo before getting a custom tune. The other thing to keep in mind is long tubes lower the clearance of the car & can easily get messed up on a daily driver. The benefits of the shorty headers far out weighed the long tubes for what I'm doing with this car. If the RT was a 2nd car or being set up for the 1/4 mile the long tubes are the way to go.
I gotcha, yea clearence is definetly something to keep in mind on a daily... especially wherever theres snow lol

You'll notice a big difference 3K and up. The car can now exhale better.
I noticed on the highway how smooth the acceleration was - def a nice upgrade so far. The tune will really get this thing to another level though I think

The clearance is the same - this header was straight up bolt on. Take the stock manifold off & plug this on. I got the Charger out nice & early so I could get a little open road for some driving! Very rare to see so much open road by me but so much fun hahaha - def a nice upgrade & looking forward to the custom tune to see how this upgrade improves the dyno results.

Shorty is good for the low end power the 5.7 lacks. Going LTs on the 5.7 will help a lot up top, but usually hurts down low. Translation: LTs make the R/T an even bigger pig off the line unless you have gears or a cam.
David pretty much nailed it on the head - when they told me I would lose a little HP/Torque down low I said nope, not willing to do that at all.
Did u install them yourself or have a shop do it? If so what did they charge if you don’t mind me asking
RZT Peformance Long Island, NY installed them. Everything ended up costing me around $1300. just need a custom tune on this thing & it will be an absolute beast

I have a 2017 Challenger R/T 6 speed i live in niagara falls on canada, i have been talking to a mopar only performance shop in the area. the shop has recommended the following mods, hellcat headers and hellcat exhaust system with a muffler delete. the shop also recommends a diablo trinity with pcm and a hellcat cold air system. i am assuming the hellcat headers will wake up the sound of the exhaust so i am not really sure if i want to do the muffler delete because i dont want the car to be so loud.
Before buying the headers you bought did you consider hellcat headers.

So they want you to get the full Hellcat exhaust & intake system with a T2/unlocked PCM. That's a nice setup, how much would all of that run you? Also is the performance shop going to give you a custom tune with the upgrades? I never thought about getting the hellcat exhaust setup, was kicking around the idea of the 392 though. This shop is unique because it is a mopar performance shop that is attached and owned by the dodge dealer. The cost for the headers and exhaust including a 180 thermostat installed would be 2500.00. PCM upgrade with the diablo trinty and custom tune keeping the warranty in place would be 1600.00. This is canadian price i was looking at Borla exhaust only, no headers and that was 2200. cdn alone so the shop said we do better for less???? i guess they all say that lol
I love the upgrades but do you plan on addressing the shitty brakes that come on our Charger RT's? I think people neglect that part. What goes fast must slow down....
Very true - At some point I will have to get an upgraded setup. You're right many people including myself forget about the safety of upgrading their braking setup

I've been researching tunes and it's a toss up between Jay Green and Hemifever, with a slight edge going towards HF; due to reputation with Chargers. I'd love to try Jay, but from what I'm seeing he mostly do trucks... What do you think, or what's your opinion?
I'm in the same boat, only difference is I will likely end up getting both. I haven't decided which one I will be going with 1st, both have amazing reviews. Growls Garage just did a Jay Greene tune & said it's amazing. For $175-200 it's worth every penny to me testing them both out & leaving feedback for everyone.
