would really love to have an Atlantic campaign in this game. One that starts 1939, when all navies were fully intact. It would be probably not last long because of the increased lethality ingame but it would be a nice mechanic to determine win or loose by getting supplies to Britain or sink them. Also lots of really cool ships there.
Hell, the Japanese DDs racking up torpedo kills on cruisers in the Guadalcanal campaign, alone, is testament to their possible lethality against larger warships. If the DDs can survive long enough, anyway.
To be fair the Japanese main line light cruisers are actual ass so I would not be suprised if US destroyers (especially the Fletcher) can outplay them.
If yall want more stuff in this game there is a modding forum in the steam discussion board. We got all sorts of stuff from alt-history, realism mods, more ships mods, and recently some crackheads managed to mode in the entire fucking pacific campaign.
Got this game quite recently and have been well and truly addicted to it, was exactly the type of game I always wanted! Though have to say the lethality of the us dds seems to be a bit too much, destroyers and cruisers tend to get torn up so fast in even when not in short range
There IS an Atlantic campaign. It's called "Atlantic Fleet". It's a separate game by the same company, using the same game engine and mechanics, set in the Atlantic.
The only time skip bombing was really used was with B-24s. To kill dams in Europe. And RARELY so. At least from what I remember. Most planes weren't really good at the whole go fast to skip bombs thing, and the bombs themselves... well they're not really designed for that either.

I am so buying this game. It would be awsome if they expanded it to make it possible to attack Hawaii (post-pearl Harbour) or even take the fight to the eastern parts of USA. But seeing all of this, it would have to be all seperate campaigns. If you put the entire pacific on this scale, your computer would fry. Edit: Looked at the system requirements, it's amazing, this thing basically runs on hopes and dreams :/
The largest non nuclear submarines were the japanese I-400 Series if i remember correctly. Space enough for 2 hydroplane bombers. each. slink close to target. launch plane. bomb. catch plane, submerge. laugh all the way home.
Yes and no. They would be carrying 3 Aichi M6A Seiran, 7 I-400 were ordered meaning at best 21 planes and even the original plan was 18 the I-400 could only carry 2 of then at the time meaning 32 planes armed with 800lb bombs. They wouldnt be laughing all the way home, they would be about as effective as Japan bombing campaign on the west coast using balloons.
I appreciate the game recomendations but do you have any RPG recommendations? I'm currently going back in time finding gems like Stellar Tactics and the King Arthur RPG and RTS hybrid games as well as the Expedition Series with Vikings being my favorite
I would definitely say this is a good game with plenty of potential, but I also would say it's underwhelming, personally. Perhaps I had my expectations too high. Anyway. The japanese fighting style is to fire torpedoes first, and then engage with gun fire to finish the enemy off. Preferably when they're not aware, sailing in a straight line, at night. Would I say US DDs can take on IJN CLs? I wouldn't bet on it, but if they have a numbers advantage probably. However, I know for a fact that US CLs can take on IJN CAs through sheer rate of fire.
Yeah you should have had your bombers going max speed already, flying at the lowest altitude possible for the skip bombing runs. not dropping the payload then speeding up to get out of there. This is not how physics works Arch, you trade speed for altitude unless you already have a power to weight ratio that allows you to accelerate from low speed to begin with. Check out the mosquito bombers and you will see what I mean, I speed and precision they even bombed a Berlin prison to allow POW's to escape which if you have not figured yet you have to have precision levels of accuracy to pull of such manoeuvres and in a age where precision guided munitions is not a thing that is a tad bit more than just impressive. On that note this game does look like a bit of fun, going to have too dip my toes into this one I think.
Hey arch you might like nebulius fleet command its currently in early access but its got a lot of technical depth and allows a large degree of player freedom with fleet comps
The whole point of the Yamato was that her armament allowed her to engage from about 30 miles out and no other ship out there had the caliber to engage from a similar distance so having the Yamato close to 3 miles is a waste of the Yamato.
Arch! What's wrong with you?! Obviously destroyers take the front of the column, so that they can react to torpedoes. What you are doing is the best way to feed your big guns into a torpedo salvo...
I have a couple of questions. Is this turn based like Atlantic Fleet? Is there any automation in this simulation? From what I have read it forces you to micromanage every aspect of the game which can be very overwhelming.
Its not turn based no its a real time map. Patrol routes are pretty much the only automated thing in the game but with the size the campaign currently is its really all you need to automate. In battle ships and aircraft both can automatically engage targets (although they don't put much thought behind it so the pause button comes in handy in dire circumstances.) Overall the game is a lot simpler than it looks but it has admittedly finicky control schemes for some stuff.
The range in the surface engagements seems far too close. It’s like 1800s pre-dreadnought distance, not proper battleship distance. Go look up some video footage of ww2 battleship engagements it does exist. Even large battleships at these ranges appear most of the way to the horizon
It is a video game. The Gameplay should make fun and especially in a war strategy game there has to made several compromises and shortcuts to historical accuracy. In a lot of WWII naval battles the greatest problem was to even spot the enemys position. Carrier strikes in the Salomon campaign were to made by guessing of the Commanding Admirals were the enemy could be. In the first day of the Battle of Coral Sea both sides sended their air groups in the wrong direction. This would be not a funny gameplay. And also in surface battles the accuracy of naval gunfire was rather low especially at long distance. At the Battle of Jutland in 1916 the hit ratio was probably between 1-5%. Even when Battleship Main Battery could shot over 20km this was most times not very effective. Especially in several battles of Iron Bottom Sound of Guadalcanal there was surface action ad night ad very close distances. For an example at November 13, 1942, several american destroyers ambushed the Battleship Hiei ad point blank range and destroyed most of her upper deck structures including the bridge with just their five inch guns. Smaller vessels were important
I've been trying to find the humorous review of this game, or another warship focus game Arch did, but it seems to have been yeetus deeltus off youtube. Anyone know where it went or has a link to it?
I dont think a Atlantic Campaign would work as there is a reason why the Kriegsmarine was never able to challenge the Royal Navy. It would be very one sided. Also as I am at it, the Kriegsmarine HAD floatplanes and the Luftwaffe had flying boats ... what they DIDNT had were Aircraft Carriers like the Royal Navy that eventually stop using floatplanes because they had RADAR something glorious Nippon never got the hang of (thats why Iowa vs Yamato tends to be Iowa wins unless its perfect weather because Yamato optical rangefinders were simply technological obsolete), since scout planes WOULD be detected by air search radar and carriers WOULD send CAP into their general direction to fill then with holes ...
