Gerês lives up to the HYPE! Beauty to be found everywhere! In next vlog we go in-depth with our private guide, who knows all the things worth knowing! See you in two days! Don't forget to subscribe and leave a like for the ALCO-Rhythm! 😘
@Custom Garage o Gerês é sim o unico parque nacional, a serra da Arrábida está caracterizada como parque natural... Não tem nem de perto comparação... E essa do vinho tudo depende de gostos...
Before leaving Portugal I used to live in Esposende. I did some hikes in Gerês during the weekends (and they are pretty safe to do, don't worry) since it is relatively close by. But not nearly as much as I should have done. This year I had some holidays in May and I chose Gerês. It is impressive how many things I could have visited when I lived there. I took my country beauty for granted and now I can enjoy it only as a tourist.
Gerês National Park is beautiful. Driving around with the cows and horses makes it even more interesting. We stopped at the same restaurant when we were in Soajo. Brings back good memories. If you go back to Northern Portugal, you should go to Pitões Das Junias. Such a beautiful little village. Amazingly nice people and good food. They have a bakery that is opened 24 hours a day. Amazing bread and good donuts.
I was in Gerês in July, and explored this entire region, it's beautiful! After Gerês I visited Madeira for 10 days and the island is impressive! A funny thing is that the guy who rented me the car said that this year there were a lot of Danes there! I could only think it's because of you!
Thank u for taking us to these places. The landscape was fantastic along with the music choices. As always. I know you don’t love to be in the middle of nowhere but some of us really appreciate the effort.
Did a similar trip years ago . there are Hieroglyphics near the dam. The area is very unique with the mountains , rivers and waterfalls. Each village has special taste and history. This patch work makes Portugal a special place in the world that touch your senses like a lingering dream. Beautiful.
I'm Brazilian and I was simply delighted with the gerês, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I've visited, the energy of this place is incredible.
The fisherwoman and the way you stop to talk to her: that's real class, to look to what the majority doesn't see. To look for the details that brings autenticity and charm. Thank you for making this videos. They capture some of the soul of Portugal and are made with so much love.
Love your retro cooler. the hat? 5/10 ~ I think a baseball style hat would be more flattering... but hey. At 3:27 the hat is in reverse lol! Lovely scenery there...
I was born in Arcos de Valdevez, so excited you went. It’s so beautiful there. My parents house is down the street from the swing. I was there after you, I couldn’t wait to see where you guys went. Back in the US now, unfortunately. We were at the same place in Sistelo too. I had wanted to go see the waterfalls but ended up not being able to. Thanks for the videos, always look forward to watch!
Hmm... I know them as "espigueiros" (to dry the "espigas"). En Galicia they call it "horrios" and in Carnota there's the world's longest one (36m long), 'pero los tios fe Lira' claim theirs is longer;) Anyway, they have that design to prevent mice access to it, with those large and flat disks on the pilars. In Asturias they also have same kind of structure, usually in a square format.
Amazing video guys! I'm so happy that you've finally found Gerês! For me it's the most scenic place in Portuga, and the best spot to rest in Nature and absorb the good vibes. Cheers guys 🏖️🍸🙂🙋♂️🙈😜
Petiscos is the Portuguese version of “tapas”. In fact, tapas in Spain come from pintxos which is a piece of bread and something good on top, but now what we see in all Spain is that they offer tapas but in fact it corresponds to our petiscos. I’m from Minho living in Lisbon and I know that’s not new. A lot of times I went out with friends to have some petiscos as a dinner before moving to the bars and so on (you probably already know how the night works in Portugal). I had these kind of restaurants in Guimarães, Braga and Porto and I just loved it. Some restaurants would bring you petiscos over and over again, whatever was leaving the kitchen, and I just loved it! We could taste as much as 20 different dishes including deserts. I’m glad it’s becoming a trend because it sure worths it. BTW isn’t Minho such a jewel?
No! Tapas means to cover, the word is from spainish "tapar", which is the same in portuguese. The habit comes from bars, they put a small plate over the glasses to keep out the flies, and so evolved the habit to put "snacks" on the plate. Petiscos means small pieces.
@@franseronell4555 you are translating literally. Of course it means cover but we don’t eat covers. About the pintxos I know from long ago on my trips to Madrid and San Sebastián. At that time tapas was not a spread concept as I know. Petiscos means literally “best food, best flavor, delicacy” and is usually served in small dishes before the big meals or as a meal itself. In those cases we say let’s go “petiscar”. It happens for example in marriages or other parties/receptions and we call it “copo de água”, literally glass of water (well this is way very ironic :-)). Cheers!
Another wondrously beautiful area of Portugal. And I'd been waiting to see that alheira. Yum! Nice compliment Joen gave the fish lady, "You're as beautiful as the fish". LOL!
Im so glad you guys went to Sao Bento - whenever i visit both sets of my grandparents we always made the trip there. Seeing those side road stores made my day and made me reminisce when i was younger!
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
There's much more to explore in Gerês, I hope you come back! Beautiful drone images. There's a hidden waterfall just where you started the video, if you go back I ll give you the spot information!
Have watched most of your Portugal vlogs before moving to Coimbra a few months ago. Of all the youtube I’ve watched, yours do have a unique flavor that, like a ripe cheese, severed room temperature on a moonlight beach with cold Prosecco, are best savored if the Prosecco is your 3rd bottle of the evening. Ha! Anyway, your drone shots and editing are the best I’ve ever seen and, all kidding aside, I really enjoys them.
I give your hat a solid 8 for Cancer prevention, but a 2 for style. But who cares about style when it comes to Cancer. Coverage is what matters, and that hat is a great choice ;)
For a 1 day trip you saw good stuff, i hope "tomorrow" you will see some hidden gems while doing some trails. You passed through so many good stuff, but in 1 day, you can't ask for more!
Loved watching this video! I never went there but would love to. Stunning place! This just remembered me how much I want to spend some time there enjoying that beauty 🙂
As i said sometime ago...Geres is Top!! Well the North of Portugal is great! Ps: that Alvarinho in the right temperature and a meal it's almost Heaven..🤤
You would have loved to take the trail that connects Cascata do Arado to Poço Azul and then you couldn't resist taking a refreshing dip in the stunning natural pool of super clear water that flows from its waterfall. See here: ua-cam.com/video/vzoExpNWW_Q/v-deo.html
Stunning drone shots. Why u call it team work when I did everything! 🤣Amélia u rock! Gerês is outstanding, a shame u missed Ponte da Barca and Ponte de Lima, but you must come back because you barely scratched the surface. You need to visit Esposende and its Celtic Ruins, Caminha and Estorões with its beautiful river mill house, Vilar de Mouros, Paredes de Coura, just the drive there is worth it, and of course the famous Vodafone Summer Music Festival is always held there by the river Coura... So pretty, then there is Valença and Monção... At least these places are in order so to continue your exploration of Minho.

Cascata de Pincães, Poço Verde Fafião, Poço da Cancela (Road to Fafião), Cascata Cela Cavalos, Flecha das Barjas (Thaiti, too crowded), etc... etc...
Hey Joen and Amelie. That waterfall was to die for! Awesome video as always!
Beautiful video Hope to go and see it one day thank you for showing the beautiful places in 🇵🇹
Each time I travel by car in Portugal, I'm amazed by the huge rocs you can see in the middle of nowhere. It makes me feel like I'm in another planet.

The portuguese l9ve for petiscos is so great we even create a verb and an adjective to describe the acts of eating and enjoying petiscos.
