One of my favorite storylines in this season was navigating the aftermath of a best friend breakup. It’s honestly like nothing else, and I think they depicted it perfectly. Like you still care for the person and seeing them reminds you of the great times you had together, but you know the best thing for you both is being apart from each other, but you still wish them well and look out for them from a distance. Watching this season was cathartic
I love the addition of someone to bounce the thoughts off of! So much Fun to watch yall 😄 You 2 have Great Chemisty and the Review has me 🤣 We honestly should be having drinks with yall... SHOTS UP
I get the Eloise being mad at Penelope bit that’s fine be butt hurt if you want to but Penelope did not betray her maliciously. I feel like everyone just jumps to the things Penelope wrote which were all true by the way and forget that Eloise came running to Penelope in panic about the queen thinking she was lady W. Penelope didn’t betray her cause she wanted to but simply to get Eloise out from under the queens grasp. She was about to go turn herself in to the queen for Eloise but Genevieve let her know this would be a dumb move because the queen would just think she was doing it to safe her friend then if she just wrote something harmless she would also think it was Eloise writing something harmless to make it look like it was not her. So she had no choice but to write something damning. Now here’s the she wrote about her fraternizing with radicals but did it actually ruin Eloise. Nope she is still out and about in society for that is the power of the bridgerton name. Believe it or not Penelope understands the ton quite well she figured out what she could write that would still not be enough for Eloise’s family name to not save her. If this statement at been written about herself she would have had to leave the ton and never come back but she knew that Eloise and her family name could comeback from that. I think what has people in arms about Eloise becoming friends with Cressida is that Cressida has been an out right cruel bully to Penelope all of her life and even if a friend and not just any friend but one who you actually viewed as a sister which I think both Eloise and Penelope viewed each other as more than friends they were closer to each other than their own sisters. But the fact that you chose to now fraternize with Cressida is just very damning to your own character. She said herself that she would never ever befriend Cressida so why do it was it in a way done to hurt Penelope like to have her feel betrayed as well. Even when they try to give Cressida a bad home life story to make her more sympathetic it does not really work for me. Bad home life does not give you the write to bully the weaker . I just hope el realizes that she needs to talk things out rather than keep things in and that she starts listening. I feel like she is always talking at people she wants to be heard but does not want to listen. Doesn’t it say something that the one time she listened and actually paid attention to Penelope she figured out in less than 5 minutes she was lady W. What does that say of her friendship. It’s very sad but that moment showed that she used Penelope as sounding board for all the things she wanted to say but never once listened to Penelope’s struggles, yet Penelope was always there willing listening to her friend, but extremely lonely and unable to voice her sadness and despair so she came up with Lady W to have a voice and to be heard. I just really hope that when they come back together they realize that it has to be a friendship built on equal footing.
I agree with this wholeheartedly and will add, how and I do mean HOW after years of close friendship did Eloise never realize Penelope’s feelings for Colin? She truly did not pay attention to Pen AT ALL. Pen was just her sounding board.
Exactly! What else was she supposed to do?? Let her best friend (or even herself) get caught by the queen?? I don't think that would end up well for either girl tbh.
Unfortunately the show the original Actress for Francesca left to do 'Lockwood & Co.' was cancelled by Netflix, so in hindsight she should've stayed on Bridgerton. 😅
What I don't think y'all are picking up on wrt Lady Whistledown 'ruining' Eloise, is that Eloise was barrelling full-steam towards a much more severe ruin. Queen Charlotte wasn't trying to unmask Lady Whistledown in order to invite her to tea. She was trying to unmask Lady W *in order to imprison her* . The Bridgertons - every single one of them - would have been ruined socially and financially, and possibly stripped of their lands and titles. Eloise's actions would have completely obliterated any marriage prospects for her younger sisters, and it would not have been unlikely that Anthony, as head of the family, would have been imprisoned (at best) because *obviously* a mere unmarried debutante could not have pulled off such an enterprise on her own. Penelope exposing Eloise's political activities led to a much more minor and temporary scandal. And Eloise has the support of a loving, wealthy, and socially connected family to weather her temporary ruin. So yeah, Eloise has a lot of making up to do to Penelope. She was reckless, thoughtless, and honestly, just willfully blind to the damage she was courting with her actions. She has a right to her hurt feelings, but she is very much in the wrong, here.
But the point of Pen doing that was also to save her own skin as the ACTUAL Lady W, she didn't want to be imprisoned herself for the very real actions she herself took as Lady W. Eloise acting reckless on her own (wasn't smart either) but it wasn't an issue to the Queen until Pen's actions as Lady W were caught into the mix. Pen really just saved herself by ruining Eloise's reputation before her friend could be pinned as the wrong culprit for activity she wasn't even involved in (Lady W's scandal paper). Like, yes, she saved her from imprisonment. But Eloise wouldn't have had that threat of punishment if it wasn't for Lady W existing in the first place. Like I just don't think Pen "saving" Eloise in this way, diminishes the harm Pen caused both Eloise and the Bridgerton family by association. I think it makes sense that Eloise is mad and she should feel betrayed. Like "I saved myself by ruining you a little less than someone else would have" isn't something to brush over entirely.
@@miaborges3674 I agree with about 90% of what you're saying (and as I said at the end, Eloise is very much entitled to her hurt feelings), but I disagree that Penelope being Lady W is the main reason that Eloise was in danger because *Eloise* was the one choosing to get herself so involved in the enterprise of Lady W. Despite shunning the rules of her society, Eloise still knew them, and knew the risks of ignoring them. I'm not willing to downplay her agency in her own choices. Penelope didn't *make* Eloise act recklessly, and Eloise didn't *make* Penelope keep her identity as Lady W a secret. But to look at the whole of the choices those characters made, and come to the conclusion that Eloise is all but blameless is baffling to me.
@@chikzdigmohawkz oh no no, I think we're on the same page there. I don't think Eloise is completely blameless at all, like I said (she was being reckless and dumb doing what she was doing.) Especially the sneaking away to see the printing boy/underground politics. And she definitely made herself a target by openly being interested in Lady W and her scandal sheet. But having an interest to uncover the mystery doesn't equally put her up to blame for being accused of being Lady W? Like maybe I didn't articulate my point fully, but they're BOTH to blame for the state of things now 🤣🤣 I've just seen so many people act like Penelope did the most noble thing by "saving" Eloise, but like situation isn't that black and white.
@@miaborges3674 I agree with you both. Definitely not black and white. Penelope does fall into a "playing God" vibes sometimes, gone by her own hubris, bc LW sure is a power trip especially since she was always ignored, but she is never fully selfish and fully cruel (nor is she lying). She exposing a society who mocks and ostracizes her. Another point I see that people ignore, she warned Eloise to stop seeing Theo before she had to take those measures (similar with trying to warn Marina and Colin). Eloise never considered she could be eventually discovered with him, which would ruin her even worse, bc she's a noble girl unchaperone with a lower class man, her sisters would fall with her and Theo would be fucked. He would probably be imprisoned at best, killed at worst. Just see how Anthony reacted about Daphne and Simon and that was his friend and a duke. Eloise would be fine bc she has brothers and a sister to support her. I think Eloise has all the right to be mad, but I think she is more mad about not figuring out and also for Penelope pulling this off, than the betrayal. Also, her befriending Penelope's main bully shows Eloise remains a bit entitled and is beyond petty. Their friendship was always a bit unleveled. And it remains similar with Cressida, showing she's not aware of her privilege in having a loving family who will support her no matter what. Pen at that point had no marriage prospects and her family was in the hands of a cousin who would marry her abusive sister. LW is her only hope for the future.
@@miaborges3674 I think people missed the part where GEN pointed out to Pen that the queen would not believe her if she said that she was LW, because she'd just think Pen was lying to try to help her friend. Gen was also the one who pointed out that a lady would never say something bad about herself (giving Pen the idea to write something about El). And Pen COULD have mentioned Theo, but instead went with the much lesser scandal of El going to political rallies. I think Pen absolutely did the best she could do with what she had to work with.
As a fellow book reader who has a knack for remembering dates, I recall that Colin's book happened 7 years after Benedict's book. Benedict/Sophie love story was circa 1817. Colin/Penelope love story was circa 1824. Speaking of dates, I am also really interested to see which order they do the other Bridgerton children's love stories. I'm pretty sure like 3 of them happened in 1824 (Colin, Eloise, and Francesca!) It was a good year for the Bridgerton family 😉
29:51 YES TO EVERYTHING YOU BOTH SAID. I don’t hate Penelope at all but it’s insane to me how much of her wrongdoings get brushed aside but Eloise needs to repent on hands and knees to be forgiven.
OMG . Both of you are great and I would LOVE a gilded age review . I’m already imagining enjoyable evenings at home watching your Gilded Age reviews… ❤❤
Joanna Shupes Uptown Girls series also have heroines who know their bodies and one of the sisters isn’t even a virgin :) sooooo good. It’s set in the gilded age!
If we don’t see the Lady in Silver at a masquerade ball at the end of the season, I will burn it down for Benedict. Sophie better show up a a ladies maid for Eloise next season.
One of the many things that people do not understand about autistic people, is that our "comfort zone" is not necessarily something to break out of. It's our comfort zone, which has a different meaning from the neurotypical meaning. It's how we cope with living in an neurotypical society, and how we recover too. We need our comfort zone. It's not the same as a shy person or an introvert trying to go to a party to make friends. Even that's it's not as straightforward. But in autism, things like comfort spaces, stimming, headphones, it's all things that we need to cope with society rules that are not sustainable for us. And it gets much more serious with age....

The show has been using details and storylines from later books in the early seasons. That muffin munchkin sounds pretty Micheal Sterling me to. I get a feeling that Netflix is going to sacrifice a lot of book 4,5,6 in these early seasons. I am also wondering how much are going to go with John when Michea is Franchesca’s true story.
I don't think Eloise is wrong to feel she needs distance but she has never really listened to Penelope and for the sake of the previous friendship she should have let Penelope tell her side of the whole story.
I don’t think they were insinuating that. They even named specific traits aside from her being introverted such as her hyper fixation on the pianoforte, possible sensory issues/misinterpreting social cues by asking Violet not to shout, etc. Those are traits I personally have as someone on the spectrum

Next to Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlin is the best actor on the show. She carried the season like Atlas.

About being a gay man for Jonathan, same sis 😂❤
Yes!
Here for it! The reaction I've been waiting for since day 1!
Not the muff diving! 🤣🤣
So mad at what they put Kate in for costumes this half of the season. I hope it’s better in the second half.

Fran and John get to be happy and married for a couple of years before we get to her season 😭
Season 3 finished filming in march 2022 and there were brief reshoots after the strikes in December 2023
Loved this review ladies! Please do more!❤
I LOVE this. You guys are great and so insightful!!
Immaculate vibes. Subbed.
Editing to say I love the Gilded Age and please do that next!
Miatta, I absolutely watch The Gilded Age. I watch anything Julian Fellowes is involved in lol. Sheer brilliance. PLEASE review this show.
