one important thing i wanted to ask. Recent xppen have add the tip with a suspension and that ruined always the drawing experience. Huion have had that too but in the recent huion kamvas 13 the tip doesnt have the suspension anymore and this makes it more like a real pen. Is this pen with suspension or not?
do you think this is much better than the 15.6 pro ? in terms of pen quality and drawing experience. I'm really split with this and the 15.6 pro, and I'm buying next week on my birthday DX thanks for this review!
I just bought the tablet yesterday and am waiting for it to arrive. You happen to have the same laptop I do! I think the thing that always always annoyed me about any tablets even wacom's display tablets is the color matching and calibration. How does this display tablet fare in terms of color matching?
Hey Trent, this is unrelated to this video, but where do you suggest starting your Twilight Monk series? I'm interested in picking up your "World of" book for art inspiration, but I'd like to avoid spoilers!
Hey Trent! What about parallax? (Distance from pen to actual screen due to glass causing the stroke not hitting exactly where you think?) and are there wobbly diagonal lines (when drawn slowly)
If you calibrate your pen, this isn't an issue. I don't know why people are so concerned with this. Just calibrate it to be directly under the point of the pen. I always calibrate it with like .25 inch paralax, so that I can see what I'm drawing anyway.

Hi! Really interested in getting this tablet, so thanks so much for your review! Wondering if it's possible to turn the tablet around 180 degrees for left-handed users!?
I've been hearing great things about xp-pen displays. Been looking through reviews because I'm thinking about upgrading my old (about 5 years I think) Yiynova MSP19+ display to something a bit more recent. At the time it was one of the cheapest Wacom alternatives available that worked but it's starting to have some major drawbacks, subHD resolution, weight and a an extremely cheap feeling pen (the nip tends to wobble and feel somewhat off). Definitely curious about the larger models XP has because they are much closer to an affordable price point at least for me.
I just got mine, drew my first drawing on it with OpenCanvas (the software xp-pen gives you for free with the purchase), and I LOVE IT! I l especially chose it for the thinness - I can't draw on an angle, I need to lay the thing flat on the table, and it works perfectly that way. I had to download the driver twice - the newest version did not work at all, so I got the previous one, and now I can set the functions for all the keys ( the first thing I had to get rid of is the right-click on the pen - I kept getting at it accidentally, and it kept changing my coulours!! disable is the way to go with the pen keys, if you have a "firm grip" on the pencil, like I do. The screen is beautiful, no lag, no issues. Now i'm getting Illustrator ( now there's something overpriced!!) and moving on to vector drawing. Wish me luck!

I don't know. I haven't tried the cintiq 16. Usually Wacom is the higher priced, luxury version of tablets. So if money is no object, go for the wacom.
If the artist 24 is something good and has a good range of angles to help with my posture, I wouldn’t mind blowing a bit of money if I found it to be worthwhile and long lasting
Hey Trent, I've been using a cintiq 13HD with my pc since 2013 and it's been doing me well, but I'm always keeping an eye out for an alternative as my friends haven't been so lucky with theirs. How reliable over a longer period would you say the xp-pens are so far? And do you know what the colour differences would be like? I work a lot with bright colours so they're important to me :) Thanks for reviewing neat tablets when you can, it's always nice to be able to hear honest pros and cons about them! Have a great day!
I've been using the xp-pen artist pro 15.6 since Christmas and it's holding up fine, like tbh there's no difference besides the spot my Chihuahua managed to leap into my lap and put a tiny scratch you can see when it's in sunlight. I had an issue with my pen about a month in and can also say they have really good customer service. I got another about 2-3 days after reaching out, and they didn't ask for shipping which was nice since huiom customer support sucks and expects shipping when their items are defective.
Have had an artist 15.6 since february of last year and had no issues with it at all. Also have artist 10S and the only problem with it was the pen it came only lasted a year and got flimsy due to the cheap material it was made out of. Ordered a replacement pen and noticed it was made of sturdier plastic and have had no issues with it so far, 3 years later.

When a device isn't symmetric, it most likely will present problems for left handed people. This is almos pretty symmetric but that thing with the cable, may break faster with a leftie.
If you can review the Wacom Cintiq 16 (not the pro ofc!). It is really nice tablet and yes it is 100-150$ more expensive but I think it is worth it as well.

I just bought this a couple weeks ago and it just will not work on my 2020 MacBook. I've had it for 2 weeks and customer support is basically nonexistent. if anyone wants to help me out let me know because right now I'm just pissed I paid full price for this and its basically a paperweight
the reason they make detachable wires is because precisely wires break no matter what and with detachable ones you get that option to replace it when its broken
Hi, I was wondering if there is a website where I could find different types of art houses. Is there somewhere that tells you what these houses are looking for in the artists they hire?
Hey, I have this tablet and sometimes the pen point isn't accurate to where I'm pointing on the screen. It's sometimes off by a few centimeters. I usually have to restart my laptop, mess around with the PenTablet screen settings, and open my drawing software again to fix the problem. Is my tablet bugged or is there a way to fix this?
did you do "configure" in the driver? You tap configure, it gives you som x-es to tap on the screen, and it corrects itself. That fixed it immediately for me, and has not come back since.
I won this on their magic card even , my name is even on the live thing (pepechanjem:jeremiah renteria) but im excited to receive it once they start sending them out
As for why the tablets have removable wires, 9/10 times that I've experienced a failure in a wacom has been in the USB cable itself rather than the port. Toss it, buy a new cable on amazon, the only issue being sometimes the cable wont fit the Wacom's port. Before they made them all detachable cables, if a wire went bad you had to toss the whole tablet and drop way more cash to start again which sounds more like an Apple thing. What would be more reasonable is to make a better attachment. no more of this "plug and pray" crap, hoping that the natural connection is enough to keep the wire in. Give it a hard latch you close after plugging it in or some plastic clip to secure the cable if it's going to be removable. The reason why people keep asking if a graphics tablet is self contained is... well partially because of the ipad, which is understandably over priced because that's what Apple does, but also because: why can you _not_ have a decent stand alone drawing tablet? It seems flipping ridiculous in this day and age that *no one* seems to have done this yet. I've seen people using MS Surface tables but they don't seem to hold up over time for one reason or another so I hesitate to bother. I've yet to see a reasonable technical explanation for why a reliable, decently priced (sub 500), dedicated drawing tablet doesn't exist. The money that a company could make is just laying on the table somewhere in plain view.
It seems like it would not be under $500 bucks. A self contained computer AND a higher quality display coming in under 3 lbs? The tech just isn’t there yet. Not at that price point.
Mobile processors are improving by leaps and bounds every year. Battery capacity too. If Apple and Microsoft can do it with general use technology just imagine putting it together in a dedicated package. Sub $500 might be an issue if you want something as big as the product being reviewed here, but it doesn't have to be that big, or have as high a resolution as an ipad retina display to be useful. There's a "Goldie Locks Zone" there to be exploited, I'm sure of it.
@@TrentKaniuga It is, it would just cost around $900 to $1500 to make a portable all in one Windows tablet with this pen technology that could handle most of the art apps. The Surface Pro NEEDS some competition. I would have no problem dropping $1500 on an XP Pen all in one. Have no idea why they haven't done it yet.

Ohh. I've been eyeballing that 24 beast. The specs look amazing. But watching you heft it is making me rethink it lol! Can't wait for the review if I haven't bought this one first just out of convenience and cost savings!
Thanks for sharing the video!
I picked up a 22r and man it feels so good to draw on it coming from an Intuos pro s.
I want one of these for sculpting in Blender...
personal preference but sculpting is actually easier on tablets without a screen.
@@user-by4ru5pr1g I learned sculpting with epoxy putty. Using a normal tablet causes a disconnect between what is on screen and what my hand is doing. It mainly is I need a tablet that isn't old, cheap, small, and warped to practice on to get used to the disconnect. (Mostly the fact that is is warped is making it hard go practice.)
Edit: It also bugs me that no tablet I have found thus far actually matches a screen's aspect ratio.
@@JTMC93 I see. Well I like the freehand in sculpting. The only issue would be line work. For that you need a screen tablet for sure.
you can get the huion kamvas 22 for the same price though. That seems to be the better value especially if you can squeeze $100 more for the plus model
"TRENT"...My Guy...
I've been Drawing freehand and illustrating logos' Designing apparel Graphics etc. for quite while...!
Basically just winging it around my '2019 Macb00k Pro.
However...I Just cop'd the "XP- Pen Innovator '16. I'm Definitely ready to developed my skills on this Tablet...a little intimidating though...due to me pretty much "Self-Teaching myself on a Mac...therefore...all the key-clicks, Drawing angles and even learning Photoshop & Illustrator...are a day to day grind.
I will admit..YOU definitely helped me understand the start up basics. 👍✌
Hey man, just bought this for myself cause I was afraid of letting my gift go to waste like my father before me. I originally wanted to go to college for 2d - 3d animations. That was back in 2011. Anyway, your vid has been so helpful considering I have never been anywhere near this type of set up. Only a pencil and paper. Any other tips? I'll be subscribing 👍
yessss i love the facecam dude
Wahahahah you reviews are the best Trent. This screen tablet was on my radar but buying xp pen in the part od Brasil that i live is kinda hard, plus is a second monitor so i decided to go for the TAB S6 because i love sketching on the bathroom and there's nothing compared to being able to do it.
But! If im ever buying a bigger tablet to use with the pc it will probably be a Xp pen, the quality is really getting better.
Planning to buy one of these, way to much time working on an Intuos 4 and honestly not interested in a Wacom, got one in the office, for home I want something more portable, this one looks really good specially price/function wise
Man I wish your videos also available in 4K :) that’s a gold. I always watch your videos in a 4K large screen.
It’s a good tablet based on the amount your paying however, the downfalls of the innovator is it doesn’t really recognize light pressure. If your a light pencil sketcher den de innovator won’t really fit wit ur preferences but of course u can always get used to it. The buttons on the pen sometimes lags and doesn’t work for a couple of minutes unless u use the fast cut keys to change it. The stand has a bad angle where for long hours of work, it will increase your neck/back pain therefore I recommend using books to adjust the angle. The wheel sometimes lags as well but it’s usually fine.
Yeah that’s what people say but i got mine a week ago, and now it registers really light pressure,
Maybe it has something to do with the pennib having to adjust for a while?
@@natandustin3875 oh oof
thought you were speaking another language when you said "den de"
@@deifys I basically just adjusted some words in English ;D
Thanks!
one important thing i wanted to ask.
Yes! Classic Intro again hehehehe
I just bought the tablet yesterday and am waiting for it to arrive. You happen to have the same laptop I do! I think the thing that always always annoyed me about any tablets even wacom's display tablets is the color matching and calibration. How does this display tablet fare in terms of color matching?
OK Trent... My 6 year old Ugee tablet is about done so I'm taking your word and buying this one! The Cintiq is just too expensive!
YAY OLD MUSIC!
1 question:
How do I draw vertically on this display?
change the settings to rotate the screen in the software.
Hey Trent, this is unrelated to this video, but where do you suggest starting your Twilight Monk series? I'm interested in picking up your "World of" book for art inspiration, but I'd like to avoid spoilers!
Get Secrets of Kung Fulio. It’s a complete starting point with Kung fu action. Adding new art, but the story is final. Www.gumroad.com/Trentk
I always calibrate it with like .25 inch paralax, so that I can see what I'm drawing anyway.
thank you art father
Hey, Trent!
Thank you very much for your excellent review. This XP-PEN Innovator 16 is amazing!!!!
Another dream equipment, from XP-PEN.

my old 2011 wacom 21" is basically dead so i'm looking into either an xp or huion.. thank you for your reviews!! :D it's nice getting artist's perspective on this sort of thing!
Hi! Really interested in getting this tablet, so thanks so much for your review! Wondering if it's possible to turn the tablet around 180 degrees for left-handed users!?
I have a few Wacoms but I really like the xp-pen 24 pro for Zbrush and PS.
Should I go for the Innovator or 24 Pro?
I have never drawn digitally and know nothing about photoshop, but I enjoyed your video, Trent :)
I loove brightness control, they thought of me !
Can we still use the keyboard on MacBook while we split the screens (screen on xp pen for drawing, and macbook's for other applications) ??
How many layers do you normally use per drawing? It looks like a lot.
I have the xppen 12pro.. yes the cable does "go bad" it keeps disconnecting and get some occasionall flickers, Idk why they have to make it detachable
that sucks, buying a new cable every now and then will be a hassle. How long did it work for?
@@B4TM44N started happening around 2-3 month after. I did message xp-pen they sent me a new cable still that one worked for around the same amount of time, i just gave up and use it like this. only happens when u start painting u need to find a good spot for it... still they should have made it attached
@@xZOMBIExx mm that's annoying... Wacom ain't really giving us any portable good options (except their recent wacom one 13)... so it's either chunks or displays that might be unreliable in the long run then :/ thinking of buying a used cintiq 16... but it is so hard, the portability is so nice with these xp-pen displays. ah idk anymore lol
@@B4TM44N ye i feel u .. was thinking about getting the wacom 16 too . around 600 $ but I would really like to try one a out for a bit before actually
buying it :-s and just hope that it wont have the same problem
Im waiting for the xp pen artist 15.6 pro, which i feel like is pretty close to the quality that the 16 offers, i csnt wait to finaly start working with it
Hey trent, can you try one of the free drawing programs like krita?
I actually used Wacom 16 for about a year. Right now I bought Ipad Pro with pencil gen 2. Also using a wacom intuos on my computer now instead of Wacom 16. Ask me questions if you have any. Also Clip Studio Paint is on sale !! It is like 25$. Super cheap. Does not compare to Photoshop in terms of functionality, but the brush engine is so gooooood. It is only a one time purchase which is awesome!
Looked at the thumbnail and thought "cool, Mick Foley is reviewing a drawing tablet" Bang Bang!
I have an artist pro 22E and it's pretty good, there's no tilt but honestly I never used it. also it's not a laminated display so I must be in front of the screen to have the pen correctly on the cursor
also, I got it for 370€ new, so I'm pretty darn happy with it for this price point
How well do the drivers work for this?
@trent How's the brightness of the screen. I've seen a few reviews on it and the mention it's not that bright even at 100%
I love this review! But do you think this is better than a cintiq 16 for someone who is newer to using drawing tablets but wants great quality?
I don't know. I haven't tried the cintiq 16. Usually Wacom is the higher priced, luxury version of tablets. So if money is no object, go for the wacom.
thats crazy almost 150 dollars less than my wacom 16 and seems to do a lot more, glad to see other manufacturers catching up to Wacom.
Great video mate thank you.
What's the name of the background song you used at 6:25min?
Hey Trent, thanks for the review. Did you notice any overheating in this or the 24pro?
How about huion kamvas 16
If the artist 24 is something good and has a good range of angles to help with my posture, I wouldn’t mind blowing a bit of money if I found it to be worthwhile and long lasting
Hey Trent, I've been using a cintiq 13HD with my pc since 2013 and it's been doing me well, but I'm always keeping an eye out for an alternative as my friends haven't been so lucky with theirs. How reliable over a longer period would you say the xp-pens are so far? And do you know what the colour differences would be like? I work a lot with bright colours so they're important to me :)
Thanks for reviewing neat tablets when you can, it's always nice to be able to hear honest pros and cons about them!
@@nyxicide I dont think my labradors would be jumping up on the tablet so at least that's nothing to worry about, thanks for letting me know what your experiences are like! :)
@@redandblack641 thanks for letting me know what their tablets have been like for you! I'm glad the pen has proven sturdy enough once you got it, that may mean it's been improved in general since then :) Glad to hear it's doing you well!
@@Feniiku I would only hope the Labradors wouldn't 😂. That could not end well lmao
Please make a video about your workflow ...
When a device isn't symmetric, it most likely will present problems for left handed people. This is almos pretty symmetric but that thing with the cable, may break faster with a leftie.
you can just flip the tablet and flip the screen in windows settings...
I havent thought of that but you god an excelent point, maybe you can flip it? And then fix it in the settings
What you recommend for a beginner? That's affordable.
Does this have a "tablet mode" wherein the display goes off and I can use it much like an Intuos?
Yep
I agree on just making drawing tablets that are wired. I always use my Intuos Pro when plugged in.
If you can review the Wacom Cintiq 16 (not the pro ofc!). It is really nice tablet and yes it is 100-150$ more expensive but I think it is worth it as well.
Hi Trent, awesome video! i'm a new subscriber to your channel and i'm watching your videos one after the other, you have awesome content. i just wondered, do you use a mouse when painting in photoshop or a pad and a pen, and what is your advice for the beginners aside from budget do you recommend painting with a computer and a mouse or starting with a tablet (ipad pro or others)
Hi trent, can we see a life as a concept artist video soon?
Do you think this is good for a tattoo artist?
I just bought this a couple weeks ago and it just will not work on my 2020 MacBook. I've had it for 2 weeks and customer support is basically nonexistent. if anyone wants to help me out let me know because right now I'm just pissed I paid full price for this and its basically a paperweight
the reason they make detachable wires is because precisely wires break no matter what and with detachable ones you get that option to replace it when its broken
Is it better than Huion Kamvas Pro 16? Hmmmm....
I think so. But if you've never used either, the Kamvas might be fine.
Between XP-Pen Innovator 16 and XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro, which one is better than the other ?
Innovator

No. You will have to research.

With these displays there is always the question of heat, how is the heat on these tablets?
Hey, I have this tablet and sometimes the pen point isn't accurate to where I'm pointing on the screen. It's sometimes off by a few centimeters. I usually have to restart my laptop, mess around with the PenTablet screen settings, and open my drawing software again to fix the problem. Is my tablet bugged or is there a way to fix this?
Another reason I'm gonna stick with Wacom.
did you do "configure" in the driver? You tap configure, it gives you som x-es to tap on the screen, and it corrects itself. That fixed it immediately for me, and has not come back since.
Would you recommend getting this or a wacom one?
I won this on their magic card even , my name is even on the live thing (pepechanjem:jeremiah renteria) but im excited to receive it once they start sending them out
After a year, the display sometimes flickering…
Any parallax?
Just... calibrate your tablet dude. Voila. No parallax.
Just seeing him say, "Ciao, baby. Oh yeah." was worth the watch!! But very informative nonetheless.
The pro glove segment really reminded me of Gru from the Croods 😭
👍
is it stand alone or does it have to be plugged into a pc to work?
Plugged into a pc
I think XP Pen is doing R&D on a creating a Surface Pro like device, and Huion already has a non portable version of that.
