Silicon Valley | A Tribute to Peter Gregory

- I put together some of the best Peter Gregory (Christopher Welch) scenes as a tribute. I added Gavin's heartfelt speech at the end to tie it all together.
Rest In Peace Christopher Welch, you left us too soon. You were a very talented actor and will not be forgotten. I hope you're watching this wherever you may be.

A perfect addition to the first season. His character was pure genius and a much missed presence in the show. RIP Christopher Welch
He was such an incredible actor. He first caught my attention in The Master where he was stacked against philip seymour hoffman and joaquin phoenix and somehow he stuck in my head. He's one of those character actors who seems like he has a million things going on behind their head.
I feel like in addition to being a comedy and a drama this show was also a treatise on people on the autism spectrum
The whole storyline would’ve been different if he hadn’t passed away actually.
@@Mansonisthename Exactly. The show, at least in the first seasons, was suppossed to be a dick-measuring contest between Peter and Gavin with Richard caught up in the middle.
The sesame seed is still my favorite scene.
It's an amazing scene. Sadly, it is utter bullshit. Still, his character is just a boss. A very awkward boss.
It was brillant. These guys are freaking out and he figures out a way to make millions off of sesame seeds because he had a hankering to try Burger King out of the blue and figures our that there will be a shortage in a year
Literally the cicada scene is his only scene I remember.
@@michelmusik It's based on Bill Gates and buying peas futures for plant protein products.

Man, as someone finally getting around to watching Silicon Valley it really bummed me out reading his passing at the end of season one. I really liked Christopher's character.
"Are you still enjoying your asparagus sir?"
"I was never enjoying it. I only eat it for the nutrients. You may take it."
RIP.
"Did you just take a sip of an empty cup?" Lmfao
"Thank you Florida" - the most underrated line in the whole fucking show
Predated TSwift 😊
I nearly pissed myself the first time i heard it 😂
I didn't know that the actor actually passed away.
Me too. Now rewatching the funeral scene, looking at the faces of the actors is quite deep.
It’s so weird to think where this show might’ve gone had his actor lived longer. Brilliant character actor though-he’s a doctor in Tony’s coma dream in Sopranos and he’s also the dude who argued with PSH in The Master
Christopher was really brave for doing this. Battling cancer to cement a meaningful legacy and play his part in the human story. What a wonderful talent.
0:02 It was in vain because he couldn't hold on until the end of the first season
Belsons speech was so emotional and good, as much as i despise his character, it felt really genuine.
I feel like out of respect to the character and actor, they couldn't let Gavin be his typical sociopathic self, and he probably did care for him in the show.
I think Gavin really regretted it like he said he did. He doesn't seem to have any actual friends, and I bet he wishes things had gone differently.
I think there was a storyline that was never able to fully develop that would foreshadow the future relationship of Richard and Big Head.
Most perceptive chela
It’s the Gates / Jobs dichotomy. They were happy to be rivals in life, never knowing their rivalry would be cut so short.
“This has gone very poorly......he doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing”
There has never been another character like PG on television, to my knowledge... I know I'VE never seen one... the character could have been so hackneyed, but this actor made him a totally engaging, hilarious one-off. SO cool.
There's a bunch of this sort of person in Blackstone
I like to imagine if PG stayed till last season, he would have made the call to destroy pied piper so it doesnt unleash chaos onto the world's encryption. He's probably one of the only ethical VC this show portrayed.
The actor was so perfect for this show...a shame he passed away so young! RIP!
fun fact: he was based on billionaire Peter Thiel
I did suspect this when I heard his anti college speech😊
Ok cool.I thought maybe he was supposed to be based on Steve Jobs.
@@77dris Thiel probably had more influences on our current culture and life than steve jobs, facebook happened because of him (the whole movie made was because of the transition method he used and the founder drama that was caused by his decisions), co-founded paypal, founded palantir which is the company that pretty much handles all the top cyber securities now including CIA and NSA, he funded many of the unicorn entities, and is one of the huge influencers of YT and tech field... yet many outside of SV don't know who he is...
I can see the cadence in the way he talks now
Peter Thiel has been openly gay for a long time now. Wonder if Gavin and Peter's falling out might have been of a more "personal nature." They did more or less confirm Gavin was gay (as had been widely believe anyway) in the finale.
Gavin just walked in.. cccccggggghhhhhh
"Monica, Peter Gregory is dead . . . "
Dennis S looool
“So what happened?”
“He hadn’t run in… a long time, maybe ever.”
Peter Gregory's character was so great.
I love how he keeps calling it Burger KING when literally nobody emphasizes the king part when naming it
The fact that the guy advocating for college ran away and called him a fascist for not liking college is such an underrated joke.
A joke that doesn't really represent reality though.
@@Tom-cn4cm it represents it too well
@@Tom-cn4cm You'd be surprised 😂
its 2022, and now the fascists are anti-college in their rhetoric, even though they all have college degrees themselves. it was a good prediction.
A joke requires a punchline. this one was mehh at best
It's so sad. He would've been so funny...
unlike the new VC shes soooo annoying
Would’ve? No my dear friend, he WAS so funny
@@sgtgiggles Sure he was. But he (the actor) died after the first season and we lost all the laughs he could've brought us in the following seasons.
It's only lately I've really started to appreciate the (presumably a college professor) guy saying that the true value of a degree is intangible.
His acting was a bit off
Peter’s fascination with Burger King’s offerings never gets old
5:37 Thank you...Florida.
Peter and Gavin are perfect examples of the two categories of bigwigs in silicon valley
Gavin is the "suit". He's more like the archetype of a successful businessman outside of tech. He got where he is primarily based on his charisma and tenacity. He's probably the more clearly 'evil' one, doing whatever he pleases and having no scruples when it comes to getting what he wants.
Peter is the "legit nerd". The socially awkward genius who achieved financial success just from technical ability. He's not as greedy, callous, cruel or ruthless as Gavin, but his wealth combined with emotional immaturity and lack of social awareness make him a bull in a china shop with respect to the greater good. He just does things that he thinks are good without considering whether someone else might be a better judge of that, while nobody is willing or able to stop him. He doesn't understand how most people's brains work, which he considers not his problem, as he sees it as clearly pragmatically inferior--except that how other people's brains work is a very important thing to understand if you want to change the world for the better.
You could say Peter is on the spectrum
They have some resemblance with thiel and musk
I'd prefer to have a magical, almost childlike mind like Peter's than a pragmatic business-oriented one like Gavins.
Gavin is like an unlucky Steve Jobs while Peter is basically Zuckerberg
And instead of creating a new character that resembles him in personality, they brought in that selfish power hungry Laura to replace him
Peter Gregory is the perfect Mentor. Very disciplined, work ethics and intelligent. Unlike others who just blindly throw value, this guy is precise and good.
He was one of my favorite character in the show. RIP
Between him and TJ Miller there is a lot of lost potential in this show. I'd love to see the reality where Judge got to see his vision through. Still, it's a masterclass in improvising.
Well Peter died IRL
And TJ Miller has a bunch of domestic violence and sexual misconduct allegations
@@Get_yotted That's exactly what I meant by "lost potential." Thanks for the comment.
I wonder if the series and the rest of the seasons would've been different if Christopher Welch hadn't died?
Not really any lost potential, there was nothing for their characters to do prior to their exit. I don't what vision you are talking about as in the case of tv shows visions change all the hardly anything is set in stone. Cast members change all the time. Who knows it might have helped the show to allow it focus on others
For some reason, Peter Gregory sounds exactly like my know-it-all dad giving me strict instructions on how to run my life.
It would’ve been cool to see more of the PG/GB relationship
That 1 minute starting from 1:53 was painful to watch. I've seen this playout many times in actual projects. Very good written.
The episode with the Burger King stuff was my favorite scenes with him. The way the two guys just have this "wtf" look on their faces and then Peter drops the news that they are getting the money is just perfection.
4:31 gets me every time hahaha
The opening clip of this video is my favourite Peter Gregory moment ❤
"The rapper Florida".
Phenomenal performance. RIP.
Just started watching this show and was confused as to why they would kill off such a brilliant character so early in the show's run - did a search only to find that it was cancer's cruel real world grasp.
Character masterclass by Christopher Welch, would have loved to see what else he could have done with the character and others.
RIP Chris.
Watch the movie synechdoche, New York. He is only in the movie for one scene but gives imo what is the most powerful movie monologue of all time
After watching this series, it was clear they wanted Laurie to kind of emulate is nature, but he truly was in a league of his own. I don't know much about Christopher Welch, but he was truly a great actor and would have been a gem throughout the rest of the series.
Welch's delivery is outstanding
All the awkward scenes between Gavin and Peter were taken from us all too soon. 😭
Such a great character actor. Absolute shame he wound up going so soon in the series. We could have got a lot more of Peter and Christopher's name would have gotten more deserved recognition. Dude was directed by multiple legends and killed it every time.
I considered him the best actor in the show. The master of awkward.
R.I.P
This has held up extremely well through time.
Brilliant writing, fantastic acting.
I love this actor so much...
His laugh at Erlichs “drip box” pun was so fucking funny. Hahahaha
The scene about the company vs. The product...something to guide. Yup. I have been Richard in that moment. So many layers to building a business :O argh!
What a talented actor.
Billions of breadings
Peter and Gavin were so in love.
He is a smart guy
The way Peter Gregory says, "Noooooo" sounds like you have lost a life in Pac-Man.
what a legend
Gavin was really nice and friendly to Peter, granted, they were friends at one point. But still, it's odd seeing how friendly he is to Peter lol
excellent
Thank you florida
He was so good
O wow. He actually died. I did not see that coming
big fan...RIP
His voice sounds so much like Peter Thiel
This was a nice thing to do.
If peter wouldn't have died the guys wouldn't have so many problems
PETER THEIL in real life!!!
Great casting i must say.
After reading the comments I got to know the actual actor(Christopher Welch) also died and that's why he wasn't there after 1st season.
Till now I believed Peter Gregory's death was the part of the story.
RIP Christopher Welch 🙏
This is high end Mike Judge!
best character for Real for Real +100
When i first watched Silicon Valley Peter was one of the characters that made me want to see what happens in the next episode. The seasme seeds on the burgers blew my mind i had the same thought process as the guys that wanted the loan. Why the fuck is this guy staring at burgers when im coming to him with a crisis. Genius
A sad loss
7:13 one of the best Werner Herzog impersonations.
RIP LEGEND
"The true value of a college education is INTANGIBLE!" Give that guy an Oscar.
seems like one of those leftist professors who believe in acceptance of everyone unless it's to conservatives then they should be attacked with violence and white hot rage
@@CodeWithSen Peter Gregory is based on Peter Thiel, who famously blasted the value of tertiary education for decades now. He clashed with idealistic academics a plenty. There are debates on youtube.
@@CodeWithSen stop trying to force your "white conservatives with thinly veiled racist politics are being discriminated against" crybaby nonsense
@freshtendrills so many words and yet nothing of value said
The show would've been different if he still alive. He was awesome and unique. Both the actor and the character.
Laurie was better tbh
6:14 lol the laugh
Peter was a parallel to Richard. Garvin was a parallel to Erlich. Too bad they never got to turn into their own parallels. Would have been the perfect ending.
Richard ended up in the right spot. Absent minded professor is absolutely his calling.
Did you just take a sip from an empty cup?..
Peter is the only admirable character in this show
I legit thought he was choking when they said "Gavin Belson just walked in." 🤣
R.I.P :(
He speaks at TED!
CEW and Zach Woods were the break out stars of season one.
Thank you, Florida.
Just genius.
Erlich reaction to peter first meeting is hilarious.
Perfect representation of the schizoid genius billionaire.
I believe Peter Greg/Chris Welch's character would never back-stab PP like Lori Bream did at the end of season 5. At first I thought she(Lori) was funny, but really she's just a bee-och >:(
wtf dude?
@bangandburn88 I agree with the starfish statement the imagery not experience is what sold me..
@Furyan Auror you sound ridiculous
The end got me
When I first watched Silicon Valley, I thought Peter Gregory was a dick. 8 years later, I think he is a hella lot insightful.
Thank you, Florida
I only eat it for its nutrients. Man I wish this man was still alive
feel like pure shit just want him back xx
Peter speaks truth
he should've open his own hamburger joint...call it "AssBurgers"
atop the breading
If only he was still around...
“Bye Pete”
Peter Thiel!
6:21 Ever since I started eating healthy.
So tragic what happened to this man after his breakout role here.
you're welcome :)
xMystic you the man!
