Pete Monahan reminds me of a more depressing Jared, considering they both are very formal and direct but also casually bring up a lot of fucked up shit that they either did/went through and just proceeds with the conversation as if nothing happened. It's comedy gold
Jared's on an upward arc though. As miserable as his circumstances are now, the dark glimpses into his past are outright horrific. Pete Monahan's backstory is not so tortured but his ongoing circumstances are much bleaker. He's a character on a downward spiral; every time we see him he's humbled and determined to arrest his descent, but is completely unable to, sinking deeper and deeper into depravity and legal hindrance off-screen.
Jared steals scenes even in other characters' montages. The lawyer is so well written, his entire ark was fkg genius. The writers deserve every bit of credit and glory they can get.
I love how funny and interesting this show makes side characters. Even the Focus Group Guy - "Apologies for the interruption, Kyle, Britney, Jake, Ramon..." - is amazing. Patrice, too.
@pyropulse isn't it kind of though? Like it's not just that he does crimes that are unexpected they're also contrary to his character. Like a firefighter that starts fires also seems ironic to me (even though that's apparently common). Idk there are plenty of things that people call ironic that definitely aren't but it seems like there's kind of a grey area. What do you define as ironic?
@@Tardig This might be digging too deep in to what is one of the most intelligently made and original comedic relief character, but he seems like the person that has severe additional personality, to a point where he cannot control himself when it comes to pleasure seeking, his crimes seems to be purely driven by that. Everyone here is like this guy's gold, that guy is gold, etc. Guess what, THE ENTIRE FCKIN SHOW IS GOLD. Too many unforgettable characters: Jared, Gilfoyle, Monahan, Jin Yang, Erlich, Big head, Gavin, Russ, MY GOD. This is one seriously underrated show in my opinion.
I wish they hired him as their executive legal council in the later seasons when they grew. He definitely deserved more air time! Such a great character, such amazing acting!
Pete Monahan is Donald "Jared" Dunn having been sent back through time, "striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap... home."
Anyone want Pete and Ron LaFlamme to have their own spinoff show together working as law partners? I feel like their vastly different personalities would make for some great onscreen chemistry and comedy: the depressed but composed sex/drug addict and the laidback bro who are both kickass lawyers.
brett chase the star of the hit show badge of honor also lloyd braun on seinfeld. just three guys sittin around chewin gum, isn't that what the holidays are all about?
It didn't fit in with the flow of the video. I don't like to give away too many big plot points as I prefer people go watch the full show if they really enjoy it. For that joke to make sense I would've had to preface it with the judge's context which essentially gives away what happened.
The video was cut off right before Pete was checking the laptop. Then he closed it with his elbow and used his towel to wipe and handle the laptop. The same thing happened with Ron LaFlamme where he swiped the phone with his elbow. That is some great attention to detail.
Man they did such a good job with having just the right amount of WHAT THE in the support characters, so much funnier than just dialling the weird up to 11
Given that this is a tech show known for parodying real world incidents and people in the tech world... I'm willing to take a guess that Pete Monahan's character is based on John McAfee and his alleged rumors.
@@struckgles it's the delivery. He's an experienced attorney who was working at a car wash after he was in prison for hitting a police horse in the face with a shovel. The way the line is written and how he delivers it is so on point with the character lol
yodaisgod2 by the sounds of the conversations Jared/Donald he was male escort who had a John that died and stole his identity to get out of the lifestyle
Also, I think his mother was an addict and vad stuff would happen related to her (judging by some small stuff but mostly the German mumblings of Jared in his sleep).
Same here 😀. Saw him in Police Academy, then one episode of Star Trek TNG, then nothing and suddenly he pops up in Silicon Valley. A great character and a brilliant actor 🙂
I feel bad for this guy 😅 he’s clearly very competent and seems to have respect for the law, he’s just got these awful substance abuse demons to contend with. But he doesn’t blame anybody else, he accepts his fate and reality in a very matter of fact way and gets right back on the horse of rebuilding his life. I wish we got some indication that things turned out halfway okay for him.
Missed a key part of the last scene, where he looked at the laptop then wiped his fingerprints off of it as he's not allowed to use computers or the internet due to his crimes lol
As hilarious as he is, he did give Richard the one piece of advice he needed to hear "Swallow your pride, or you'll be eating something worse than shit". Richard's ego was always the one thing that fucked him over and over and over. But he never learned. The irony is, every other billionaire/CEO on the show is exactly like Richard, they're just better businessmen, same ego issues, and while he was a genius he was TERRIBLE at everything else. It was either drop the ego and be successful but never reach that level of success, or never make it at all.
"You don't want a criminal lawyer... you want a *criminal* lawyer"
And just the right amount of dirty
And some how I understood every word of that sentence.
You used to tell the girls scouts that, it was very hurtful, and I don't wanna hear it again. End of subject!
Better call pete
Would want to see these two crossover for some reason
Security guard at a correctional facility: "Are you an attorney here to see your client?"
Richard: "No, Im a client here to see my attorney."
@@deanc9453 It was an actual scene in Silicon Valley lol
@@StevenCBlah lol😂
that was one of Richard's funniest moments haha
literally one of the funniest lines in the show. every time they meet with him and hes in another kind of criminal bind is so funny too.
Lionel Hutz vibes.

This show is extremely underrated, probably one of the best after house

The writing is so hilarious... I think Mike judge does it
He's character is so Ironic that He's so good at his job on giving legal advice but does all these over the top crimes.
I would call this over the top lawbreaking party events.
Do as I say, not as I do

“My shame will linger even after my voting rights have been restored”
How much shit did this guy do?!

Fucking a minor without parental consent is a pretty serious offence.
Did he violate the Man Act by transporting underage women across state lines for the purposes of sex? Alleged. But not proven.
but it was consensual though @@kristianbrandt3012

"Litigator"
Harvey and Saul:
He’s an actual nonce

My only major gripe about this show is that this guy wasn't used more. Such an incredible character.
the transition from pete monahan talking about a second chance to him being in jail is just perfection

Pete Monahan is the best secondary character on this show, I wish he would show up just a bit more.

Every scene he did was great. So many hilarious characters.
They could have a spin off of each character from Pete, Gilfoyle, Ron LaFlamme to Russ, and I'll watch every single one of them.
