From somewhere on the internet: "Danny Boyle made a conscious decision to shoot the entire film using DV-based Canon XL1 cameras due to the "harshness" of the video. He believed that such rough-edged quality would help give the film a sense of grittiness and real-world plausibility that would benefit the overall narrative."
worked great at the time on the old school crt tv's. nowadays the screen technology ruins it slightly. I think best way would be to watch it on one of those late HD CRT's.

I still think the funniest behind the scenes info is that when they filmed the church scene with the massive amount of bodies they couldn't afford that many extras so they just paid a bunch of college students and staff with a cup of tea
I love to run to that song, it repeats 4 times and then the pace increases, so you start out walking, then jogging, then a bit faster still etc. until you're just full out sprinting and just try to keep it up until the end of the song,
It's really awesome especially at night on empty streets.
The jet pilot in the end after spotting them said "could you send a helicopter" in Finnish
Finns to the rescue! :)
u could say that's how the movie Finnished....
@@vkdeen7570 well done 👏
I declare that this is the most beautiful zombie movie of all time. Seriously.
“Interesting how they shot that part with him and the heat waves, almost like he’s gonna be the next casualty”. 😢
They shot the zombies at a different frame rate to make them seem more inhuman and then when Cillian Murphy's character was attacking the soldiers at the end they shot him with the same frame rate.
Oh I love that!
@@NoxSoSubtleYou are very beautiful , you have a gorgeous smile.

Danny Boyle made an interesting science fiction movie called "Sunshine" , great soundtrack, too. Good reaction!
In summer here in the uk we get like 18 hours of sunlight per day (we are same latitude as Canada, but much warmer thanks to jetstream etc) , so they just filmed it at like 4am in july.
One of those rare movies that remind us that filmmaking is just a medium, and not every movie has to have this hyper-crystal-clear clean quality to tell a good story. A lot of movies are shot like that solely because it's the industry standard, not because it was a deliberate artistic choice. Such a great movie. Really appreciated your take on the way they shot the dad through the heat waves of the campfire foreshadowing he was the next rage virus victim. Never noticed that before!

“How can they not have guns…?” That’s the UK for ya 😂
she said in the facility tho and they absolutely have guns lol, just not your everyday joe
UK is so stupid.
@Jeffrey dahmer vs Ted bundy Its called a joke. Keep up.
@Jeffrey dahmer vs Ted bundy UK is still...so stupid.
@Jeffrey dahmer vs Ted bundy Yeah people that believe that are literal retards. It’s mostly fringe delusional liberals
Its annoying that no one ever credits that sergeant for being the only sane one of the group and die defending what is right
"How do they not have guns in that facility?"
Because it's in the UK!
(they aren't zombies btw, they're infected people)
28 Months Later...
28 Years Later...
28 Decades Later...
Etc...
Come on Hollywood lets get on the ball... its the 20th year anniversary of the release of this film and they interviewed D. Bolye and C. Murphy recently and they were both open to revisiting the story world and making another... so fingers are crossed!!!
Love your reaction and this is one of my favourite movies. You mentioned the budget and apparently it was really small so they filmed very early in the morning when it was quiet and whenever someone came along they simply asked them if they could wait around whilst they finished the scene.
even though 'trainspotting' is boyle's most critically acclaimed film, 'Sunshine' and '28 Days Later' are my absolute sentimental favorites
Zombies are people that have died and come back to life, which doesn't apply in this film. The monsters in this film are in some ways more like vampires - you turn in to one from blood contact.
They were not zombies or vampires, they were just rabid crazy people,
@@tsogobauggi8721 David Cronenberg did a movie with a similar premise in the 1970s where a human became a sort of vampire after contracting rabies after an operation. The crazy film was made even odder because it starred a famous adult movie actress.
"died and come back to life, which doesn't apply in this film" Much easier to kill as they still alive. That's why the rapey repopulation was weird when he had one on the chain waiting to see how long it takes the infected to die. The difference between right and wrong was just time. They didn't even wait or have a more secure place and gave up too damn quick. I would've let the one guy shoot himself and shot the other for stepping outta line. I guess you need them with such open spaces.
Soldier boys too damn socialized into sharing as I doubt anyone else was into that team game but them. Which is why I was wondering where they took them in the woods to be murdered was all the other bodies the people they tried to do the same too, right?
28 days later, then however long the journey was and 28 more days till the end of the infected. Soldiers were acting like it's been a decade or something. If any of ya'll seen that one movie when the youngest man alive just died. Children of Men (2006)
This is my second favorite Danny Boyle movie behind Trainspotting, and I always appreciate that he does different things in each film to fit the theme.
the original BBC Day of the Triffids is similar - worth a watch
The "litter" he was picking up was money
It's a fun movie and a nice flip on the zombie script. Those soldiers were quick it get on the rape train after 28 days though...
How long was basic or did it hit while they were in it? They were acting like it's been 28 years.
If ya wanna see it hit like that then watch Children of Men (2006) where there are no zombies but maybe a virus. When the youngest man in the world dies, he was the last baby ever born.
Thanks Nox. You don't post enough though. ;) Been missing your positivity.
The Dutch angle. Camera tilt...🎬🎥
Technically, these aren't zombies and this isn't a zombie movie, as they aren't the undead but just infected. 😊
Yeah, technically. But all in all, 28 days later IS a zombie movie. Claiming otherwise is unnecessary pedantry.
Rabid people . Rage virus
Just because they're not undead doesn't mean they're not zombies. They're infected with a disease that makes them kill other people. The infection spreads through bites and scratches with the blood/saliva. They're zombies.
The budget was really low for this film. What they managed to do is amazing. One of my favorite horror films.
I was NOT ready for this when it came out lol... Expecting just another "zombie" movie... Yyyyyea lol
YTC does it again! Great vid as always!
2:43 That is a thing in nature yep! And the fungus infecting and zombifiying people is the plot of a fantastic game called The Last of Us.
I fell so hard for Naomie Harris watching this movie. I feel like the fast-paced nature of their romance is so much more believable than Hollywood normally expects us to buy within an hour and half. The ending camera work with the final showdown between Cillian Murphy and the soldiers... I was so in love with when I saw it in the theatre back in 2002. It all seemed so retro and fresh simultaneously. If you haven't seen the stage production of Frankenstein which Danny Boyle directs, with Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris is also excellent in it. I highly recommend for spooky season. 🎃
Nice she’s amazing! I’d love to see more of her work.
@@NoxSoSubtle she plays an incredible character called Tia Dalma in the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies
Wasnt she also miss moneypenny in the newer bond-movies?
@@crispy_338 Yes! "Him was a man." When she says that my heart folds in on itself. Such a beautiful sentiment contextually in the film.
@@mappes1 Yes, and her character was one of the first females out of sync with typical Bondisms. She is an exceptional actress, and possibly has a very exceptional agent, as well. She's in a new show I haven't seen yet, but I can't wait to see her in.
Canon XL1, an early digital 1/3” 3CCD camera. Quite an unusual look for a film, but the grittiness of the image lends itself to the subject matter. Has a rough documentary look to it.
02:57 love how as soon as Cillian's "Murphy" is on screen you try to change the subject.
"What erm... what camera did they use for this movie...?"
I first watched this on VHS - combine that with the already grainy shots, made for a really terrifying and harrowing experience! I grew up around London, so all the landmarks felt so close to home and I remember sitting up late, at about 12 or 13 watching this in my room at night...alone. Incredibly intense experience, especially as many traditional "zombie" films had such well-established themes and designs; this one hit different (even though calling it a zombie film isn't strictly fair). It gave it a sense of realism and felt like I was watching some shady found-footage.
Miss this channel
Called a dutch angle shot. Carol Reed had a thing for it in third man
Welcome back Nox 🙂
7:18 Here, we come to a key difference between _this_ movie and the zombie flick it's all too often _mistaken_ for. See, in a zombie movie, _everyone_ who dies, unless they die in _very_ specific ways, reanimates. Not so in this movie. In this movie, only the people who are _infected_ reanimate.
These are Jim's parents. They passed away a little while ago. They just died. No reanimation took place. Tragic? Yes. Scary? No.
This is not a zombie movie. It's similar, but not quite the same thing.
Nobody is reanimating. It’s a rage virus. Inhibiting human being control over their instinct to be violent. They are angry turned up to 11. When they die they are dead. They have no instinct to even eat so eventually they starve to death.
I think they filmed the scenes at like 4-5 in the morning when there wasn't anyone around
Seeing this when it came out was a different experience versus watching it today. Go find a mainstream-ish zombie movie before this with running zombies. I’ll wait. :)
World War Z zombies were next level tho lol
@@NoxSoSubtle Rule #1 in Zombieland? Cardio!
In 1980 an Italian made Zombie film came out later known as "'City of the Walking Dead" AKA "Nightmare City". It had running 'Zombies', or like in "28 Days Later", they were not technically 'Zombies', but rather highly infected people who kill anyone on sight. But it was one of the most badly made zombie films ever. Next to "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" (1972). The only true running Zombie film before WWZ and after "28 Days" was the 2004 remake of the "Dawn of the Dead". Personally I don't find running Zombies realistic or immersive. But as living infected people like in this film, or the feral ghouls in the Fallout 4 video games, they can be dangerous. Though they appear Zombie-ish, they are actually not.
Return of the living dead 1985 had running zombies as well
Between 28 days later and 28 weeks later.... I love 28 days later more, the atmosphere, storytelling, camera quality making so dang poor in purpose, the characters is more memorable than 28 weeks later, while 28 weeks later have a good intro but later on is slow and tone down a bit than 28 days later
nice to see you again :)
no no rick grimes got jim vibes 2002 hahaha
2:40 yes there is Ants 🐜 that become zombies 🧟♂️ due to a fungus 🍄 & spores are also the cause of zombies in The Walking Dead, well space spores ☄️🍄🧟♂️
Since you mentioned your love for screenwriting, I'm surprised you've never reacted to David Fincher's The Social Network on your channel. It's one of the best films of the last decade, and Fincher and the legendary Aaron Sorkin were a match made in movie heaven. Seriously, that script's just nuts. The whole film is. Masterpiece.
I watch The Social Network pretty often! It’s definitely a masterpiece!
@@NoxSoSubtle Ikr? Lightning in a bottle type stuff. Check out Fincher's other films while you're at it.
shite film
4:34 he is picking up cash. Not litter.
I've watched hundreds of reactors, and I've never seen anybody as invested into the movies as you. You are the best. Can you do Inseption, and Memento?
@ 2:45 you're talkin about cordyceps, usually the creature dies pretty fast though and isn't able to animate or anything
The only thing I dislike in this movie is the main girl killing her friend at the beginning. He got into the room and had time to check his wound. The infection takes like 30 seconds on average so there was basically no chance at all he was infected. Then later when there like a 1000 times higher chance that the main guy is infected she hesitates, and then kisses him even though he probably has infected blood on him. She just seems thoroughly unintelligent and overly emotional to me. She could have turned and by process of elimination killed him and the girl in the process.
I recommend Exorcist 3: Legion
The film was shot with dv cameras, Canon XL1. Not high end even at the time.
A 1980s camcorder was more high end than this. I have the tapes to prove it. More had to be done to make it look like that.
15:55 🥰 Oh.
18:32 "How many shots of Cillian Murphy do we have to see, naked?"
😆😆😆
The army major is played by Chistopher Eccleston who sad 37 year old virgins will know as a former Doctor Who while I know him from the 1996 miniseries Our Friends in the North.
28 Days Later has an alternate ending which is all the same (if I remember correctly), except they couldn't save Jim.
That is the real ending to this movie. :)
Danny Boyle's film Trance is also worth watching, I really like that film. Oh, and his film Sunshine as well. Also check out the films by Alex Garland (he wrote a lot of Danny Boyle's films, including 28 Days Later)
i have the both films and still watch them sometimes the brits can do good movies if the cash is there for production .
It was clearly money he was picking up
Crazy!...No Nut November is longer than 28 Days...
Watch Sunshine, also from Danny Boyle
just wanted to let you know that i know the previous episode of band of brothers was rather upsetting , but i promise the next episode is a really happy and uplifting one , its ok to finish it
@2:21 Armed scientists??
you say " ... much better than being a zombie!" ... but i'm not so sure. Maybe being a zombie is a carefree, fun, creative kind of existence. We don't know for sure. There should be more effort to interview zombies to get their perspective on life.
In Return of the living dead they eat brains because it stops them feeling themselves rotting.
Stay to the side Darlin so we c an see the movie. Smooches.
I know you’re definitely gonna make it bigger ❤️ I love your content especially what you have to say about the movies and your analysis of them or maybe Im romantically infatuated by your beauty, what it is I will not long on over but I’ll write poems to show my heart in clovers and dandelions, in tulips and roses in the red wood Forrest full of bees and butterflies for us to see. yes bugs do have zombie viruses and parasites, it's more like the zombies from the last of us though
Toxoplasmosis a bit too. If it affects you it's like being under the influence forever. You'll always want to take that riskier choice. Might actually help if you are one of them overthinkers.
Might be dangerous to pregnant women and their babies I think but I don't know how it affects them. Complications during birth?
Glad to see you back posting movie reactions again. I agree 1000% with you about zombie movies, and being a TWD (The Walking Dead) fan up until a certain point. After Season 5 of TWD I tuned out. I know I'm way behind the 8-ball with the show but Season 5 starting out was all over the place and by the Season 5 finale ending I checked out.
Recommend George Romero's Dawn of The Dead 1978 for a movie reaction....Peace!!
She will have to buy it, and it’s not cheap.
@@todddunaway3588 Dawn of the Dead?
@@illmatic95 Yeah it is currently not streaming anywhere in the U.S. and not distributed domestically here either. The guy who co-produced it with Romero owns the distribution rights and has this crazy idea that a 3D theatrical version is the way to go. There are two versions in Europe if I’m not mistaken. The UHD version is non-regional and the Blu-Ray is region specific. But if you have found it available thru something like Vudu or Amazon, I would really like to know this myself.
Only the 2004 remake is available.
@@todddunaway3588 I've seen blu-ray copies available on Amazon but like you said they're region specific. Agreed on it being a bit pricey. At last check they have the Italian version (named Zombi IIRC) but it costs a couple hundred.
The Walking Dead (I dislike certain seasons, but not season 7, season 8 is a slog to get through for me). But season 9 and on really improved a lot (9 might be in my top 3 or 4 seasons). Just letting you know my opinion. And you don't know me at all. The season Finale was very Satisfying to me, not perfect. But I wasn't looking for perfect.
If you fixed your hair up like the Selena character in the movie, you'd look a little bit like her.
