I am always awestruck by your work. Folks like you and Jay do the "rehab" so much differently than many of those in the states that I've watched. Many here would have seen the ink marks and used that as a reason to paint the piece instead of what you've done. Hats off to you and the fabulous work you do, always so much fun to watch you work. Kudos! Have to ask though, what is with the corks for Daisy? She's so adorable. Does she eat them or what? I've never heard of that before. Thanks for another great restoration. Almost forgot, I love the patterns you had done on the chair seats. Precious.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments about my work. Daisy once chased a cork when we popped one and ever since then she loves them, she doesn’t eat them, just chews them in half then wants another 😂😂 She has a thing where if she does something once and we make a fuss of her, she never forgets 😂🐶❤️

My late father in law one day showed me the carved wooden lintel above his door and made a remarkably apt comment. He said that modern day fittings are just thrown together but in years past these beautifully constructed fittings were made by artists. He then pointed out that that is where the job description of an artisan comes from. It takes years for a true artisan to learn and perfect their trade. He also pointed out that a carpenter has a love for wood and understands everything about the various types of woods nature.
Today the demands are so high because of the worlds burgeoning population and wood is becoming scarce and expensive. To see old good pieces of furniture restored and put back into use is both ecologically sound. And lets face it quality lastscand in the old end works out less expensive.

Hi David. Super work on the desk and chairs. You must have the patience of a saint when completing all the intricate details not only on this one but, in fact all your work. Don't agree with one comment about not talking too much on your videos. It's great to have your comments as you work on your restoration jobs. Adore Daisy and love to see her in each video. Carry on giving us more videos of your fabulous restorations.

This takes me back to my own schooldays in the 50's when I sat at a desk just like that. I would have made ink marks just like those as we used 'dippy' pens and inkwells. My one aspiration back then was to be the 'ink monitor' who filled up the ink wells but I never rose higher than 'straw monitor, who gave out the straws at 'milk time'. Thank you for doing such a magnificent job in restoring this. A little bit of history to be loved by future generations.

I too remember desks like this in their original incarnation. The remnant of ink stains adds authenticity; perhaps the only thing missing is the "chuggy" underneath the desk.

As a retired teacher, I was delighted to see this sweet project! What a lovely job you did. Of course the soda and lemon didn't work. I don't know what this trend of mixing baking soda and acids is all about. I can't really write out the equation, but citric acid (or vinegar, or what have you) plus baking soda yields water, carbon dioxide, and whatever material you started with that was of greater volume. In other words, they cancel each other out and do nothing at all.
I love that you allow Daisy to choose her own cork. She is a joy.

This is really turning a sows ear into a silk purse! This piece looks beautiful and expensive now. I adore the engravings. When I see an old desk like this I think of strict teachers who slap your hand with their ruler, but the engraving and color change bring such a sense of fun to the piece. I can see kids coloring all over this desk now and it still looking fabulous.

The restoration is divine. Bringing back a piece of history is always worth it. If I were a child who could read and do homework at a desk, however, I might think the designs were a bit for a younger child. A cushion on the seat could extend the life of the desk set on into college.

This brings up a lot of memories. When I started school in the 1960s the ball point pen was not yet on the market and we did use the quill pen and ink well. Very shortly after that the fountain pens became the normal instrument for writing. Nearly every school shirts pocket had ink stains on them.
In secondary school there was a big problem with our desks because nearly every desk was decorated with graffiti which had been carved into it by bored students using the dividers and compass points in the mathematical sets. (Love your graffiti 😁😁😁)
Those minor ink stains are nothing they add to the history and character of the desk.
That desk and those chairs are in remarkable condition. They must have been either privately owned or been part of the school furniture in an upmarket establishment.
Great work and finish. You have restored pieces of history very well and I hope in their new home that they will be treated with respect.
A bit of nostalgia and a peek at the past.

Yet another superb restoration from David, the master ofhis craft. Your attention to detail is both remarkable and admirable. Perfection and nothing less is you aim. Sheer quality. Skill with the eye of an artist. Anyone would be delighted and proud to own something that you restored.
I am always pleased when I see that you have posted another vlog. Not only do I see lovely furniture but dear, gorgeous Daisy.

Beautiful result! This one brought back some fond memories and stories of the end of little girls' plaits being dipped in the inkwells... Loved the designs for the chair seats, simple and delightful. Thanks!

I bet the new owner of this beautiful desk and chairs will cherish it for many yrs.

You are spot on, it took about 4 hours to get all the paint out of the grain with the wire brush. Overall it took me about a week to do 😂😂🐶❤️
