*Hi folks! Here it is, one of the most beautiful antiques that ever passed my shop door! I enjoyed a lot working on it, even though I spent over 300 hours on it! I hope you'll enjoy the video and find it interesting! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I'm always responding! Cheers! Johnny*
No, those are NOT tarot cards. They're old fashioned playing cards. If you notice they have the same Ace through King setup and the same Heart, Diamond, Spade, Club suits as any other deck. They just have the numbers in Roman Numerals, and are missing the number and letter designations in the corners, this is typical of antique decks of cards.
Those small plastic discs are Tiddlywinks. They're a game played by using a larger disc (the shooter) to press down on the edge of a smaller disc (a wink), and send it flying through the air. It can be played either by trying to "shoot" your wink the farthest, or by setting up a target and trying to be the one to get closest to it. We always color coordinated our winks so it was easy to tell who's wink was who's..... It saved a lot of arguing.
Magyar kartya Wow. Hungarian card games. Thank you for taking on this project. This is bringing me back all the Saturdays and Sundays watching my father his father and my uncle playing it either outside the yard in warm weather or the hallways in our Gerendasi farm where I was born. I was struggling with grieving my father’s death but this upload gave me this picture how they are playing in heaven now. Maybe it’s just a dream and it’s something I wanna believe but it brought peace to my heart and a smile. Thank you so much. This is amazing.
Those tarot cards look to be Industrie und Glück patterned cards used to play Tarock, a card game popular in the Austro-Hungarian empire (and still played today). The cards are actually not very suitable for tarot fortune-telling due to the lack of images on the suit cards. The pin-up cards look to be in remarkable condition for their likely age. If they're not reproductions, they're from the '50's-60's. likely produced in Hungary.

Wow. That is gorgeous. What a shame they don’t make tables like this any more. I’d love one. It would be especially great to have one for holidays and other big family get togethers. We love to play games of all sorts like this when the family is all together.
Yes, I had even more time spent on some items that I restored. The videos are some sort of a glimpse of the critical points and final decisions; otherwise, they'll be too long, and nobody will watch them fully.
Спасибо большое за ваши добрые слова! Я очень рад, что вам нравится столик и карты. Я старался сделать все аккуратно и красиво. Карты я сам собирал много лет, и мне было очень приятно найти такие редкие экземпляры.
My dad’s desk which I inherited converts to a card table; the top flips open and slides around. This set up is cool, and you got some cool prizes as well! Fantastic restoration.....this is my favorite Rusty Shades project so far!

Johnny this is one of the most beautiful unique gaming tables I have ever seen. You truly gave this unique gem an entirely new life. Beautifully done 😊
The 'Ferdinand Piatnik & Söhne Wien' card deck is used for playing Tarock (not Tarot!). The front pictures haven't been changed, they are actually still looking the same. Piatnik is one of the largest card manufacturers worldwide and still a family run business, located in Vienna. The second Tarock card deck is also from a Viennese company, Franz Adametz , theme 'Industrie und Glück'.
That's a lovely piece of information! I would love to know how the game is played, and I hope to have all the cards. Is it possible that Tarot can somehow come because of these cards? The name is so similar...
@@rustyshadesrestoration Tarot is a completley different sort of cards, it is used by fortune tellers and has symbols like The Death, The Sun, The Priest a.s.o. and consits of 22 cards. There are different variations of theTarock games which are played with 40-54 cards or even more. In Austria we are playing "Königrufen" (54 cards) or "Zwanzigerrufen" (40 cards) and is played by 4 persons. Wikipedia says that Königrufen is also played in Poland. @@rustyshadesrestoration Yes, they are also used for tarot (divination). In French the divination method with these cards is known as cartes à jouer or tarot à jouer, and if you search by those names you should find as much information as you like. Is Taros the German name for the French name Tarot? Or is there a difference? Because they very much look like a French tarot card deck with 21 trump cards, an excuse, king, queen, knight, and jack cards with 4 suits.
I love gaming so much! We have a very old (not antique yet) coffee table with two huge basket drawers underneath filled with all kinds of cards and board games. This was an awesome restoration, Rusty/Johnny. I loved that you covered it in the emerald green cloth at the end, it looked beautiful. I would love to know the actual age of the card table, but realise that you aren't sure yourself. Still, it is an antique, and now that you've restored it, a stunning antique. At the very least, any carpenter or wood smith can reproduce something similar if one had all the parts.
Plenty of us woodworkers that make these several times a year. Made to order though. And they can be pretty pricey

Beautiful!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Once again your talent is amazing, I would like to nominate you for the woodworker’s absolute legend prize. I don’t know if such a prize exists but if it does, you deserve to win.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad that you appreciate my work. I'm not sure if there is such a prize as the woodworker's absolute legend prize, but I would be honored to be nominated. I've always loved woodworking, and it's so rewarding to see people enjoy the pieces that I restore. I'll keep working hard to improve my skills, and hopefully one day I'll be worthy of such an award.
That looked like a massive undertaking . Amazing to watch it slowly come back to a think of beauty 👍 brilliant work

I collect playing cards and wished I had those in my collection.
Which one did you like the most?
The third pack after the book for me, they are really beautiful.
That's my favourite too! 😍
Very nice work.
Thank you! 🙂
Yes, yes. These are not tarot cards. It is from the time when Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy existed. I am Hungarian, I love watching your videos and loved played with these cards in my childhood.
These play cards are a huge treasor, ad least to me. It is so fantastic to find "ordanry" old items. You almost can hear the loughter and fun around that table thru ages. Wonderful that this table can live on now!
I totally agree!
Superbe travail
Merci beaucoup! 🙂
Beautiful restoration with the table❣️

Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful restoration!
Thank you very much!
A lot of hours of loving TLC went into it, and it's turned out to be a masterpiece of perfection. Thank you for sharing the video. :)
I'm so happy that you enjoyed the video. The age it is not very clear but there are many sign that was made in Austro-Hungarian empire, so maybe 100+ years. 🙂
What a cool table!
