@11:23 Alex makes a great point. To that point, I think Japan and Toho have re-educated the west about how a great, well written film can come from any movie genre. Also, If I said I loved Godzilla Minus 1 on a first date and she looked at me like a weirdo, I'd end that date and enjoy the rest of my evening. It's a silly thing to have a problem with. 😂
First off I love the name of this podcast that says it all about it. I really enjoyed this breakdown of Minus One here. I feel the same as you guys do and so many do who have saw it. I'm glad that you guys talked about the score which I have listened to weeks after seeing the movie which brought memories back from those scenes the music played that got me emotional again from just hearing, but there ain't nothing like the Godzilla Suites that I feel going back to the original music from the 1954 film John Williams was probably inspired by for the Star Wars theme. There is a pre-order deal for beautiful vinyl for the Minus One Soundtrack. What's amazing is now everyone has the opportunity to see the film in black and white like the original that is ingenious by TOHO! I enjoyed your discussion about Japanese films that I plan to see more of like Seven Samurai and The Hidden Fortress that George Lucas was inspired by for Star Wars you guys know.
Just saw it today, unfortunately couldn't catch it in IMAX. Still one of the best of the decade tho! Definitely made me want to go back and check out the 2014 version again to compare.
The original version of Star Wars itself was a film in which Lucas was heavily influenced by Kurosawa's films, so director Yamazaki must have understood the essential philosophy and fun of the original version. It would be an interesting movie if he reimagined the Star Wars franchise. Moreover, if you give him a production budget of 150 million dollars, that's great! ?
As a lifelong Star Wars fan I was very excited when I first heard this but unfortunately I don't trust that disney and lucasfilm will give him creative freedom and could instead waste his talent
Your intro shows exactly what is wrong with Hollywood. Godzilla is not a new concept and the franchise has been continuously bashed with biased Western views since the beginning.
Best Picture Oscar warranted. Oppenheimer was unwatchable for me for its quantum douchiness. G-1.0 + G-1.0/c = Aa (oscar)² /G-1.0 + G-1.0/c. Thank you.Really.Thank you.
Agreed, Minus One really does deserve an Oscar, my heart was in my throat the entire runtime of that film. I know it’s a massive long shot but it would be incredible if it could get a best picture nod

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately it's only the US which is getting the black & white re-release 😪

Glad you enjoyed as much as we did! We also recommend checking out the original film from Japan!
Loved it, definitely one of the best of the year!
Favorite scene?
Best movie of 2023 for me

I don't think they embarrassed hollywood. I look at this as more of a triumph for Toho, than a dump on Hollywood.
Yeah I agree
Best Godzilla movie for me out of all the other ones.
could easily be in the top 10 films of the year
Where would you rank it?
Name me 1 better blockbuster in the last 10 years... I'll wait
@EirikAlsakerSandeavatar was 2009, thats more than 10 years ago
Is Minus One the best Godzilla film?
No. Godzilla vs Destoroyah is the goat
