after seeing Frank play in Shreveport LA in 1975 I went out and bought a guitar. I am still trying to get that sound. One of the best ever to pick up the instrument. The feel, the vibe the real playing. Long Live FM & MR!
I love my SRV, Gary Moore, Jeff Healey, Jimi Hendrix, Alvin Lee, David Gilmore, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani & Many other great guitarists, but this solo would have to be up there with the best of 'em.!!!!
I wouldnt call him the best guitarist, besides thats such a subjective judgement there is no answer. He is a too often overlooked talent whose sound is such a synergy of technical skills, gorgeous tone, a sense of melody and taste that he has no peers with the total package.
I think, he's hard to handle for pop music marketing. He's more a musican's musican than one for the masses. I just discovered his music, he's such a brillant guitar player, can't believe I missed him so long.
Jaw on the floor!!! Absolutely fucking amazing!!! Frank is not human! An alien sent to guide the way into a world of breathtaking images and sounds only he and Hendrix could open the door to!!! Thank you Frank my brother!!!
Not so much underrated as ignored by the manipulative music journalist's/critics who believe they control our want's, needs and desires.Thank God for friends with taste?
This is an ICCONIC song!! This came from his heart and soul!! A awesome tribute to our heroes who sacrifice their lives everyday for our countries!! God bless all of our heroes and thanks frank for such a beautiful masterpiece!! Musical genius!! One of your biggest fans and over 40 years of being a loyal fan and you are one of my Mentors on guitar!! Used to play along with your live album and piss off the neighbors!! Thanks for the memories!!
I started listening to Frank Marino in 1977 (World Anthem) on a college radio station (University of Alabama). I couldn’t stand the direction that popular music had taken in the mid-seventies. Try for Freedom was incredibly refreshing.
Prepare to be blown away? That's an understatement. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a faster(and cleaner sounding) guitar soloist than Frank! Amazing, amazing guitarist. Way overlooked, possibly under the shroud of the signature guitarists(e.g. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, etc) and the bands in the '70's from the UK and in the U.S. God bless Frank. I hope I can one day see him live in concert and be blown away!
Mate your comment is spot on. He's a beautiful player. In other posts I've said that in the solos he soars, unlike any other player I could name. Check out this track from the album Maxoom it's called Madness and it has my absolute favourite solo by Frank ever, you have to wait till the end though. ua-cam.com/video/0o3NQ0hzk9s/v-deo.html

I saw Frank with Mahogany Rush at the first Cal Jam...he had a fighter plane swoop in during a solo...One of those very memorable moments. What a band!
Talk about guitar playing with a soul. WOW!!!! The few things this lock down has done for me is 1) to loathe our sinister and evil American government and 2) to newly discover the awesome talents of musicians like Frank Marino and Lynyrd Skynyrd in depth. This song seriously has been catapulted to my top 10 favorite songs. And probably the most emotional guitar playing I've ever heard.
There is so much feeling and passion in Frank Marino's Songs and playing , I could be having a darkest day and play his music and the Sun (Son) Will come out!
I was at that show in San Antonio. Joe Freeman Colosseum maybe? I remember being buzzed and Frank was scooting around the stage by shuffling his feet while a strobe light was flashing - the effect was that it looked like he was sliding around the stage without his feet moving, while jamming his guitar. I saw him again in Corpus Christi in 2008. Amazing shows!
Not many guitarists bring a tear to my eye. Rory Gallagher, But this is so stellar, clean and inspired, with some of Frank's best soloing. Emotional, and flawless for a live recording. My god why was this man and Rory left out of the rock and roll hall of a fame.
Hell yeah, I'll DEFINITELY buy that DVD! There's nobody quite like Frank Marino...truly, the last of the great guitar slingers! Frank once autographed one of my guitars, after a helluva great performance at Ottawa's Barrymore's in the early 90's. (I still own that guitar, and I'll never, ever sell it, either! When I die, I'm going to leave it to my friend Maria's "Blues In The Schools" program, just so the music can live on, and on, and on!)

Monster song from a monster player. FM stands in line with the greatest guitar players of all time. Like for example Roy Buchanan he did not get the recognition he deserves. But it doesn`t really matter. The music speaks for itself.
I almost forgot about Frank Marino. People used to say he was the best guitarist. I didn't hear much of him, just occasionally hear him on KPRI after midnight, and kind of being a little intimidated by it. But I was telling a friend who is a Rush fan that I confused Rush with Mahogany Rush for meany years. People would say "Rush is a great band!" and I would say "Yeah great stuff Frank Marino is the best." They would think I was just changing the subject lol. So more recently I decided to check him out, I can't believe he's not more famous. He's the real deal.
Man you can't get no better than this , prove me wrong ,love you Frank

Stories of a Hero
(Guitar Intro)
The time has come
Said a young man to his bride
The train waits outside
And though I leave
You know I'll keep you by my side
She holds on a final time
Soldier's gone to war
Told her he's comin' home
Soldier's gone to war
He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord
She stands alone
On a platform lookin' sad
He waves through a pane of glass
And though she hopes
He will be comin' home at last
Her heart knows what's gonna pass
Soldier has gone to war
Don't know it, but he ain't comin' home no more
Soldier has gone to war
He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord
(Guitar Solo)
Soldier's gone to war
Told her he's comin' home
Soldier has gone to war
He's gonna be known as a hero in his hometown, lord
The paper falls to the floor from a trembling hand
The words they burn to the soul
And though she cries, she doesn't really understand
The world's gone so cold
Soldier went to war
Told her he'd be comin' home
Soldier's gone to war
Gonna be a big hero in his hometown, lord
(Transition with Heightened emotion)
And the stories tell of bravery, yeah
He was golden as the sun
Well he fought for you and he fought for me, yeah
And he died for everyone

Well it seems as though the world ain't changed

Frank Marino. So underestimated and say no more.
Eric Gales learned at a very young age the power that Frank had and still has see Frank held his ground and didn't sell out that's a real man
pipsie james neither did Frank Zappa
2022: Epic & Timeless.
my Hero he is.
Monster song from a monster player. FM stands in line with the greatest guitar players of all time. Like for example Roy Buchanan he did not get the recognition he deserves. But it doesn`t really matter. The music speaks for itself.
One of the best guitarist
still I like, once i had a change and I did see/hear him in Finland. He is the best.
he shreds with ultimate authority, totally owns the damn instrument, and whatever song he sees fit to play!
He's the real deal.
im a FRANK MARINO MAHOGANY RUSH fan for 25 plus years myself i think frank marino is the best guitarist still doing it you got so called guitar
