I like the Coleman Folding Oven better simply due to its much greater versatility. Whether it's biscuits, cinnamon rolls, muffins, cakes, pies, cobblers, pizza, lasagna, or a Hungry Man, it'll do it all.
I love how you did this review! Just what I was looking for. the thing is I think the Coleman stove is better because you can easily put in a muffin pan, make biscuits, or put in a loaf pan of bread. Plus it offers at Gauge to tell you what the temperature is inside for baking.
Appreciate you watching, and Im glad this was helpful. We still have our Coleman, but rarely use it unless we're cooking for more than 4 people (which is coming up for thanksgiving camping). Hopefully you'll consider subscribing!
I bought my Coleman stove in the early 90’s. I use it multiple times each year at base camps and it still works great. I have made everything from turkeys, cakes, cobblers, biscuits heated up meals and had a place to keep food warm for as many as a dozen people in my camp (bacon, taters, eggs, etc.). I have added the infamous 10”x10” pizza stone on the bottom, made a second rack and it just gets better. Nothing against the Omnia, but we pack in on horses and it just does not look rugged enough for my use. But in todays RV one night camping in a park or back up way to prepare meals… they both would work fine. I just know my Coleman is 31 years old, she looks it, but I will use it until me or it dies.
I LOVE it that this wasn't conclusive. I have a Coleman, but can easily see the upside to both. I think with the flange on the top of the paper pan, that prevented a lot of circulation inside. They aren't perfect but the more you use them, the more you get a feel for it. I've seen so many people do videos trying Coleman ovens who have absolutely no idea how to use them or the stove they're running on. That's a recipe for disaster, no matter what your doing. This was a refreshing, honest take. Keep up the good work.
I like the Omnia because it is self contained. You don't need the oven plus bakeware. Since the Coleman requires additional items in order to use, it actually does end up taking up more space. I'd be more worried about getting burned using the Coleman as well. The Omnia has everything you need in order to use it in one small package. Thanks for doing a side by side comparison. I think I'll go order the Omnia Exclusive Kit with the muffin ring. 😊
The jury is still out on that Coleman oven. We have not used it since, but I suspect next weekend's camping trip, it may make an appearance. I've demanded birthday cake, not sure what Edye has in store. Thank you so much Cat for watching and commenting, and let us know how you're making out with your Omnia !
@@LittleHouseofBeans A Bundt cake in the Omnia silicone pan would be my choice 😂. I'll probably never make a cake in it though so not sure my opinion counts for much. Low carb biscuits, muffins, cupcakes are my jam. I'll let you know how that goes when I get the darn thing and test it. Have fun camping!
Omnia has a peculiar form, and while I was initially sceptical, I think pastries look great. Coleman is impressive and high quality, but requires Ikea masterclass to be efficient in assembling ;) I think they didn't use it since, because the extra effort required in assembling. When I saw it assembled, I immediately realized I would prefer Omnia ;)
We have hundreds and hundreds of cooks in our Coleman.. Love it. Put a pizza stone in for more even heat. And we use silicone pans and muffin tins etc all the time... BUT.. Regardless.. Brownies!!
We knew right after the cook we needed some extras. Two days after the filming, we acquired an 8x8 pan, some silicone inserts and a pizza stone. Even messed up brownies are decent. Looking forward to the next challenge, and thank you for the suggestions! Feel free to toss us some recipes too!
i've had a coleman oven for over 20 years and have a lot of experience with it, i've found it works best to put the rack in the uppermost position with a small pizza stone or unglazed clay floor tile at the very bottom to prevent burning on the bottom. also, the door thermometers are never accurate, i use a digital with a remote probe instead which works much better. i also have an omnia which i've had for about a year, it also works well and takes up less space but of course anything you bake has to be in a ring shape, which complicates some things like lasagna... the coleman can be unstable and tippy on some stoves, it was originally designed for the suitcase-style stoves which burned liquid coleman fuel so your stove needs to have a wide and deep grill surface to be secure. also the exterior of the coleman gets extremely hot during baking, so using one indoors on an rv range might be dangerous.
excellent advice. Thank you so much. Today we're doing a biscuit challenge between both ovens, and I will definitely make sure Edye uses the top position. I do have those pizza stones (oddly, i had to buy a 6 pack), but for some reason, she didn't like them. I will ENFORCE the pizza stone rule later today. Thank you again for the comments and advise. Also....you've inspired me to make a round lasagna, lol.
I used mine on my butane stove. About twenty minutes in, I looked at it and wondered if the fuel canister was hot. Holy crap. Could have exploded. Butane stove explosions are scary.
Thank you for this comparison. I have a Coleman and haven’t used it yet and recently saw the omnia. The price difference is extreme so if I can practice with the Coleman and work it out, I’ll stick with it bec if the price
Definitely a price difference. We still have both, but almost exclusively use the Omnia oven due to it's light weight and ease of use. We don't like that the coleman really needs a pizza stone, its much heavier, and temp is (in our opinion) harder to control. That said, it's nice to have both when you're cooking for many. All our recipes can be done in any oven, so hopefully you're finding value in the entire playlist of cooks. Thanks for watching!
we never use our coleman anymore but still have it. we have found the coleman needs a pizza stone too. all too heavy...but it works and thats all that counts. Omnia is still our fav (for now!)
I have both and I use them with success for different things, ie. Coleman oven for bread and Omnia for foods I would fry in pans previously. I LOVE both. I have had better breads coming from the Coleman than from any electric oven in the past....including thermofan ovens. Very surprising, but true.
different tools for different needs! I am curious though....have you tried bread in the omnia and not been successful, or it just cooks better in the Coleman?
@@LittleHouseofBeans I have not tried bread in the Omnia....will some day. I took your advice to obtain more moulds. Difficult to obtain here in South Africa. I have to import everything I need from the states which is so costly. Thanks for that silicone hack. Much appreciated.🤗
that is true. The Omnia does not come with a thermostat, although many users either drill a new hole, or widen the existing holes. The coleman has one, but it is not overly accurate. We did buy a thermometer to install on the Omnia, but just havent dont it. I may buy another Omnia, put the thermometer in, then side by side TWO Omnias. I think thats super geeky, and right up my alley, lol !!!!
I chose an Omnia because Coleman is way too big and will not fit on a standard, portable, 2-burner camping stove. Love my Omnia! Use it on my gas stove in the house all the time. Saves LOTS of energy. There are YT tutorials that show how to install a quality thermometer into the lid so you can monitor the temp inside. Clever!
We still have the coleman camp oven, but also think its too bulky. I do get the attraction being able to use an 8x8 pan. We never use it, and i want to give it away.
Well, brownies are brownies, and it's a fine line between a nice crispy edge (the best), to almost burnt. I was wondering if you sprayed the square pan with a little non stick spray, maybe that would help? Either way, they looked plenty good to me!
Edye did spray the pan. After this video, we went and got a standard 8x8 pan along with two silicone inserts, we we'll have to do another side by side comparison. Both are wonderful tools to have! Thank you for watching Carol, we appreciate the suggestions!
Thanks for the challenge. I bought a non-stick tin plate with twelve cups moulded. Made for regular kitchen ovens. For cookies and brownies. I want to cut in in twelve separate cups. So I can use it in every oven. Even in an Omnia, and no silicone forms needed. I bought the italian version of Omnia = The ilbili oven. Because its better and cheaper as the Omnia. And I got it extra cheap, because a little mistake by his made. But full functions. Greetings from sw germany (middle europe)
You are most welcome, and thank you for watching. If you're talking about the coleman oven combo, which has the oven and the propane stove on top, no....thats way too bulky for our style of camping, and Im not likely to go pick one up.
Coleman is certainly less expensive, even if you have to buy a pizza stone. We just like the omnia more is all. Happy to have you aboard Carmen, and pls consider subscribing! Merry. xmas and Happy New Year too!
Your background music is a little loud and honestly no needed when you are talking. The Coleman works better when you put a small pizza stone or cast iron pan in the bottom. Also covered with foil it holds the heat better.
We picked up pizza stones after this video was published. Most certainly helpful. That said, we never use this oven anymore in comparison to the Omnia Oven. Nice to have some choices of gear for sure. Check out Edye's playlist of recipes. (ua-cam.com/play/PLVk2EsBQ1G6FOw3vmWkfSAFvZlntLNJJh.html) ....everything she's made in the Omnia Oven can be made in your Coleman. Thanks for watching, and hopefully you'll consider subscribing!
Do not use the Coleman oven on a one ring stove that has the gaz canister holder built in. The oven is too big and the canisyer underneath it will overheat and can explode..
