  • The little Coleman Camp Oven did a surprisingly great job on our initial test. It packs down into a small size and is very easy to setup. We will be on the lookout for some kind of soft carry bag/sleeve to store the oven in. If you know of any good options let us know!

    these ovens were originally designed to work with coleman suitcase stoves that burned coleman fuel/white gas so weight really wasn't an issue... they figured if you were ok with the weight of the 20 pound stove the 7 pound oven wouldn't bother you. the design has been around since the late 50's, the early ones were black not silver and tended to rust easily, the silver ones are made of aluminized steel which does not rust as easily and should last a long time.

    I put a square cast iron griddle in the bottom for better heat retention. You have to constantly check and monitor, so the griddle keeps the temp more consistent. I also put Pizza pans directly onto the griddle for a super crispy crust.
    I also cover the top and sides with foil so the heat doesn't leak out all the holes. The oven is small, and if you don't keep the heat in the bottom of everything burns before the top cooks.
    I hang an oven thermometer inside because the front thermometer isn't all that accurate.
    I use this as my primary oven, and it can do almost anything you need once you get the hang of it.

    One of the best tests I have ever seen. It is all about the product not about the person doing the demonstration or about how they live or where they've been or what are their things that don't apply to the product demonstration. It efficiently shows the setup, demonstrates the time it takes to heat, and shows the outcome of a specific food. Very efficient use of my time to watch this. Thank you. You should do a demonstration to show others how to do this efficiently like you do.

      Did you place the pizza stone at very bottom of the oven to regulate an even temperature or did you place the pizza stone on the metal adjustable shelf and then place the pan directly on top the pizza stone?
      Was my question confusing?

    • @HJKelley47
      @HJKelley47 3 роки тому +4

      @@cajuncookone : Normally I place the stone in the very bottom of the oven to help regular an even temperature. For regular cooking, I bake in a baking dish which is positioned on the rack itself. However, for baking a pizza I place the stone on the adjustable rack. There are three sets of holes for adjusting your rack. Mine is set in the 2nd set of holes (center). For pizza, I place the pizza on the stone (depending on the thickness of the crust). For a thin crust I place a bit of aluminum foil on the stone so that the crust bottom does not cook too fast and burn. For a thicker crust I place the slice(s) directly on the stone. Hope that answers your question.

      Yes, a stone or a porous (unfinished) clay tile like Mexican tile, also you can fold a COTTON towel over the top and sides to help hold in and regulate the heat. I often camp in cold windy weather and those 2 things ad up to make a big difference.

      WOULD YOU PUT IT INSIDE THE OVEN?

    • @samTollefson
      @samTollefson 2 роки тому +3

      @@heribertoramos7739 Yes, you put the tile inside on the bottom. It must be a little smaller than the inside dimensions so the heat can also go around the stone into the oven space. If you are doing a pizza, I would do it on a pan at the middle height, the stone is mainly for heat regulation. maybe putting the stone on the middle rack would let you cook a pizza on it but I have never tried it.

    I have been using these for decades, without something in the bottom to even out the heat and an insulated wrap over the outside they are a horrible way to try to bake; take forever to heat up, waste a tremendous amount of fuel, and cook very unevenly. A slight breeze can increase the heating and cooking time by double.

    Would it work well with chunks of fresh snapper and tuna while on the boat using a duel fuel stove?

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  3 роки тому

      Not sure duel fuel matters as long as it can maintain a steady temperature.

      Or you could spring for the Camp King (or Moor or something like that) oven (bout $250 US on Amazon) but it looks too heavy & bulky.

    Will it fit a 10" inch pizza 🍕 bake pan!.

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  6 місяців тому

      I don’t think so, but if it did you would have to really angle the pan to get in the opening.

    Anyone know how tall the oven is when it is folded down? Trying to figure out if it will fit in the space we have above the stove.

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  2 роки тому +1

      Stored in box it is 3" x 13" x 12.5". Just by itself folded down it is approximately 2.25" x 12" x 12.25".

    Some edges on these are poorly finished, razor sharp! Use a carborundum stone to deburr the sharp edges, youll save your skin, literally.

    These work a lot better if you put a square pizza stone in the bottom to prevent burning. Although I own one of these, I can't claim to have used it much. Probably one more rather unnecessary 'toy' for camping.

    Isn't flour from wheat, a plant ?

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Рік тому

      You’re right, wheat is from a plant. A lot of cinnamon rolls have dairy in them, these do not. 🙂

      Too bad they have veg oil PUFA fats in them instead of good old butter...its stearic acid in the dairy fat that protects us from the super-fattening effects of plant oils esp those in grains. Ghee and butter have worked for humans for thousands of years...veg oils are a new thing and along with their incfeased use one sees increased diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity...the graphs of incidence over time are identical to the graph of use of veg oils over time. Identical. The data is out there for anyone who cares to look for it. FireInABottle yt chan dives deep into the biology of it all.
