About three things I was absolutely positive. First, the circus was coming. Second, there was a part of it-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that judged a language I voted for. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with it.

Also, addendum regarding some of the comments I saw etc.: - There are over 340 species of pigeon, but the language only concerns itself with one: the domesticated rock dove (aka city pigeon, feral pigeon, “flying rat” /derogatory). They come in many colours and patterns because their ancestors were bred for show, and they’ve since reproduced at random - I didn’t learn how to catch and handle pigeons for the conlang itself. I’d already learnt for rescue purposes, but the experiences I’d had and love I found tending the birds was what inspired the concept in the first place - No, that isn’t what I actually sound like, but I do know people who unironically speak that way, probably because they live in Surrey - Palomacy is the term for pigeon fancy, and each bord is formed from two pigeons - a di-palomatic unit. I just wanted to make sure that joke landed somewhere okay - Seriously though I cannot adequately express my gratitude - Go hand-feed your local pigeons people the beaks don’t hurt and they are harmless and so sweet and so fluffy and soft when they bob up against you - Love is stored in the pigeon and they get so much undeserved vitriol from people when they’re just doing what we spent five millennia breeding them to do - Plushie plans are underway as we speak

Yes recording the translation for nyanya took hours, ended up with over an 1,5 of footage and most of what I've said has been spliced together from 3 different takes and yea idk what caused the blood taste in my mouth but I had like 3 days to make the video b4 the deadline and I couldn't let silly things like my body breaking down slow me down
I love how Proto-Antarctic has so many ridiculous little touches/logical conclusions to be reached (some of which I don't think were even touched on in the video) that aren't in your face and also aren't necessary to be aware of in order to grasp the level of cursedness, but upon becoming aware of really hammer home how unhinged every aspect is.
29:20 It doesn't make sense from a "polar" perspective, but "East Antarctica" and "West Antarctica" are actually a thing. East Antarctica is south of the Indian Ocean, in the "Eastern Hemisphere" (east of the Prime Meridian) West Antarctica is south of the Americas, in the "Western Hemisphere" (west of the Prime Meridian), and they are separated by the Transantarctic Mountains. So while it doesn't make sense technically, it does make sense from a human cultural perspective.

I can confirm that my story has become the new Town Fact, so we’ll have to wait for a new mayor to come in before we get a new one. The weird vowel transcription I used is Sinological notation, which I use (like many other linguists) for true low central and true mid vowels, rather than dumb IPA shit like [e̞]. I honestly didn’t even think about it coz I use that kinda notation in my day-to-day.

XD To be honest though, there were so many submissions that were just so so so good! (As much as I love Gobbo Gob, I was hoping Tamarian would win best story award that one was just *chef's kiss*.)

I caught about half of this live, this is one wild ride. Nguh and his crew identified cursed details that I never considered. Shame that Ribrakyt didn't get in, at least three of my other favs did. OTOH, surprised that IO the 7 World Language Beyond comprehension didn't get in the top 30 despite its many views. I suppose it mostly attracted the non-linguistics crowd, or perhaps it was just TWO cursed.

Hey Nguh, I want to file a small complaint about the voting system. There could be a fantastic video out there, but it won't be voted on because not enough people see it to even vote on it. There should be a more fair way, where maybe the like to view ratio counts instead, so it can be judged on how much people like it and not how many people saw it. Just a thought though. The most cursed thing about this circus is the biased democracy

XD To be honest though, there were so many submissions that were just so so so good! (As much as I love Gobbo Gob, I was hoping Tamarian would win best story award that one was just *chef's kiss*.)

I caught about half of this live, this is one wild ride. Nguh and his crew identified cursed details that I never considered. Shame that Ribrakyt didn't get in, at least three of my other favs did. OTOH, surprised that IO the 7 World Language Beyond comprehension didn't get in the top 30 despite its many views. I suppose it mostly attracted the non-linguistics crowd, or perhaps it was just TWO cursed.

Hey Nguh, I want to file a small complaint about the voting system. There could be a fantastic video out there, but it won't be voted on because not enough people see it to even vote on it. There should be a more fair way, where maybe the like to view ratio counts instead, so it can be judged on how much people like it and not how many people saw it. Just a thought though.
