Look like I'm going to find a local shop to have the heads ported. Pretty sure they still have everything else though. I just wish I could buy a built engine, or like a head package. The purpose of the oil is not to waterproof the filter. It is to trap dust and dirt and keep those particles from going into the engine. This is why it’s important to oil the filter.
A basic tuneup will help, as well as a better air filter and a proper tune from someone good. Keep in mind tho it is a 3V and they’re not really known for power, but basics can help any car feel better.

K&n filter oil has nothing to do with protection against hydrolocking your engine. The oil helps better trap dirt than the cotton in the filter alone can, down to the microscopic level. Thats why its there. Over oiling your filter will dirty your MAF sensor while under oiling it makes it a less effective at filtration.

Oh man Im glad that pressure washer hose ripped because you could've damaged that filter. It happened to me. I figured, "Hey, it'll get extra clean." The material of the filter corner came off, and only the mesh was left 😆 what a fumble that was.
Yea if you want the cheapest power get a Paxton or vortech supercharger kit. Kinda wish I would have just saved up for a supercharger myself. Instead I went full bolt on, Howard rattler cams, ford racing manifold, 4.10 gears and a zex nitrous kit. All totaling more than what I could have bought a supercharger kit. Still happy with the car and it really runs hard on a 125-150 shot. Makes 530rwhp which is pushing the stock internals pretty hard but she still getting down after 4 years and now 170k miles.
Never pressure wash your air filter! Simply spray degreaser on the filter, wash clean with warm water. Allow to air dry in the sun. Don't over oil the filter, just a light coat of oil will do, otherwise you'll just suck the excess oil into the intake tube, MAF, etc. Coming from a Vortech supercharged fully built 94 SN95 and a Procharged 04 Mach 1 I can say that an N/A 4.6 L 3 valve seems pretty slow, however they do look and ride good.
I haven't watched the whole video yet but cleaning the throttle body too will help. There are plenty of videos here on how to do it. Another thing is if you get the Ford Racing Cams without long tubes expect a low-end loss of torque. It may sound good but it will change the higher torque band on the higher end.
I know you said you're already on a bama tune in one of the above comments. While they're undoubtedly an improvement over stock, clean your throttle body and get a lito tune. As a 3v owner, ive accepted that without boost it will always be slow. That being said, a real tune made a massive difference in my car and i think it was under $300. Keep the s197 skid content coming. It's helping motivate me to finish putting mine together lmao.
I drive a stock 3v mustang. It feels “fast” when driving it normally. But when you punch it, it definitely doesn’t feel all that powerful. The torque is great but the power isn’t really there, i want to get a 5.0 or a camaro SS at some point, or just something with at least 400hp.

I just saw a guy selling a rare ported Saleen supercharger on FB marketplace in Florida. Comes complete with intercooler, injectors, pulley, fuel rails, and some hoses. Those blowers are impossible to find now and are made specifically for the 3v mustangs. Wish my buddy still had his 3v

You gotta do a fresh tune up on the 3v for sure , but if you haven't experienced a cammed & fbo definitely go that route it's pretty quick & worth it you'll make a lil more than stock gen1 5.0 power beating any modern muscle car out there, but going straight boost no doubt is the better option

I just bought my 4th S197 today in St Pete/Pinellas Park (it’s got a full Saleen kit such center exhaust too lol) - it’s also my only one that wasn’t turbo/SC ANNDD the first one I plan on seriously drifting it. My procharged 2009 I used to road race / AutoX but I’ll probably have a bunch of questions for you about your set up! Lol
Its bad to take the intake off and run the car you could cause damage, also always clean your car intake filter man lol or buy a new one ever year or 2 years but its better to just blow air on it to clean it before it looks that bad.
You literally sprayed about 10x more oil onto that air filter than what the directions tell you to. Take off your MAF and spray it with MAF cleaner, it's soaked in oil now.

I haven't watched the whole video yet but cleaning the throttle body too will help. There are plenty of videos here on how to do it. I drove my 96 for two years without a hood. Just the jlt cover thay came with the intake over the filter. Ran fine, never any issues.

I would get some cams if you really wanted some more power. Turbos are expensive and a lot of the time are a detriment to reliability.
