I forgot to mention that I’m away from home on vacation, which explains why I’m trying to quietly lose my mind in a Springhill Suites!
Send that to the tourism board: "Quietly lose your mind in Springhill Suites!"
The failure of this movie and the newest kenobi show makes Maverick feel even more special.

Totally
his face in the thumbnail said it all XD
My first exposure to Dan was watching him passionately argue on Movie Fights that Jurassic World was a failure. He's been calling out this franchise for years now and I'm here for it
And I’m here for it lol
Not a fan of the Jurassic World franchise, but everybody seems to be fruitlessly searching for the Spielberg touch around here.
I'm genuinely shocked that we've been Charlie Browned again on the "dinosaurs in the city" premise promise. They destroyed the island, had a velociraptor overlooking human civilisation, and the trailer was literally wall-to-wall dinos downtown. Good grief.
I think every single moment of dinosaur in the city carnage was included in the trailer, and the movie is almost two and a half hours long. I cannot fathom the mind of the genius who saw the ending to that last movie and thought "You know what? Nah. Locusts."
This is why writing is really the most important aspect of entertainment media the majority of the time, it really can make or break something entirely regardless of how good it might look
Agreed. Being a fan of many different things- fantasy sci fi- writing means everything. it will make or break your movie. As a writer myself, I can only hope I manage to thrill audiences.
You can have the best cast out there- IE Jeff Goldblum, but if you don't have a good storyline you've got rubbish and a bad movie for that great actor. 😂
It's astounding how the dinousars from the first movie are the ones that looks the most realistic.
Except for the Raptors, Blue looks badass and realistic asf. Sadly we didn't see Blue do anything which was another disappointment.
@@Vadagarr plot ass lizard blue lol
@@Vadagarr Not seeing Blue was one of the highlights. Blue was the start of the downfall of the series. Disney raptor.
They used more scenes with animatronics in the original, more closeups able to use those instead of cgi. They still had animatronics for the news ones but not used as much.
The dilophosaurus looks so bad in this film. It barely resembles the animal that it is supposed to be and all of the dilophosaurs move like sentient statues rather than scaly birds.
One of the finest ever Dan moments was when Dan begrudgingly defended Jurassic World when someone said it was Worse then Terminator Genesys on one of the early movie fights.
Lol rightfully so. At least JW doesn't hurt your eyes while watching it
The early movie Fight were awesome. One of my favorite Movie Fight moments was Nick’s bit with rewriting Die Hard.
I can see someone augurijg terminator dark fate is better then jurrassic world but not genysisis that was just bad lol
while not as bad. yes but the bar is so low. also JW , at least to me, was only fun first time watching and at a movie theatre.
you know a movie is good is no matter how many times you watch it, even at a small screen ,its still fun ...
As someone whose enjoyed all the Jurassic park films, and found the two Jurassic worlds fairly enjoyable I found this film bafflingly shit. I just didn’t care about anything that happened and it immediately moved away from “world” and effectively moved into into another park. God knows who thought giant locusts was the sub plot we were looking for in a dinosaur movie
That was the main plot. Welcome to locust world.
@NK at least the first two were actually about dinosaurs instead of locust as the focus of the plot
@NK jp3 is my favorite one. Spino is my favorite dino
Ok so it's not just me. The thing that irks me is that there are some people claiming that those who did not like the movie are jumping on some kind of hate train because everybody else is doing it like we don't have the ability to think for ourselves. As if disliking something automatically makes us evil nemesis. It's freaking weird.
Oh I hated the movie before I left the theater, I hadn't heard anything bad about it, I went in with good expectations
I was literally rolling my eyes and face palming throughout the entire movie on opening day. It was just terrible.
I think it's an alright movie. I would rate it 7.5. it's missing some scenes
I didn’t even watch my favorite UA-camrs spoiler free free review first. I hated it all on its on
Let's be honest, there SHOULD be some real genuine respect put into such a popular, cinematic franchise to really send it home. And the newer ones barely did that. JW wasn't terrible, but it definitely had it's stupid moments. Hoing the route of actually having the park and upping the stakes with not only a new villain dinosaur, but a hybrid that was unpredictable was a great transition in consistency to the previous films, that worked. To close, I'm just gonna say this franchise has been milked to all hell and I think, objectively speaking, there were a lot of decisions in these movies that didn't need to or should have happened.
Notice how the heroes from the original movie all had doctorates, but the heroes from this movie are an ex-soldier, an executive, and a pilot?
I think this may say something about how society views education and science now vs in the 90s, and possibly why the JW movies don't capture any of the magic of the original.
I was thinking this exact thing while watching the movie last night. I haven't heard anyone else voice this opinion until now.
That just reminds me of how Doug Walker bemoaned once how '90s blockbusters promoted "geeks" as leads over tough guys for the sake of putting more emphasis on special effects and telling soppy underdog stories. If only he knew...wait wait, what about Marvel? Iron Man and Hulk are scientists! I mean, I guess Tony Stark is done but still.
That makes me appreciate the 1999 Mummy more, for teaming up a clumsy bookworm with an adventurer for the best of both worlds. Oh and guess what the 2017 Mummy doesn't have? Do not bring up Dr. Jekyll, please.
(have I seen the Tom Cruise Mummy? Heck no, I tried and quit after 5 minutes)
They don’t capture the magic because they made the dinosaurs boring and lame. You know nobody is going to die, the dinosaurs chase the main cast and eat extras and a couple bad guys. They’re not a danger at all and they’re on screen way too much.
@@LinkMarioSamus both Jurassic AND the Mummy franchises are universal. as well as F&F... as well as transformers..... and they are all run the same way. Milk the shit out of the original idea for max profit with little to no regard for quality... i mean, why would they care? the work is done as soon as we buy those movie tickets. any opinions after the fact dont matter, because the money is already in their pockets at that point. and we will still line up to see their next movies anyways, talk about it, post videos about it, and comment on it as we are now.

If there’s one positive I can take from this miserable experience was that I did a double feature of this film and the original Jurassic Park. So at least I finally got to see the original on the big screen.
I kept seeing advertisements from my preferred theater about double features of OG JP to this movie and was really on the fence about if it would be worth it to just go to JP and then leave before the new movie.
The original Jurassic Park was the first movie I saw in theatre twice. My dad took me and we loved it so much that we convinced my mom to join us for our second viewing. Oh how far the series has fallen (kingdom)!
That’s what my theater did last night! Everyone there was wearing Jurassic park merch and they had the lobby all decorated with dinosaurs and plants and some people in dinosaur costumes came, it was really fun!
Seen the OG Jurassic Park 15 times in the theater and hope to see it more.
Good for you. You have no idea how amazing it was back when it originally came out. Glad you could have a little bit of that experience.
The fact they have Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as their leads, yet have created two of the most bland characters in any franchises history with little to no chemistry between them is a feat within itself.
How is that possible? Those two people beam passion and charisma.
They have good chemistry
Chris Pratt is a bad man... This is consensus of Twitter. For some reason.
@@nerychristian Producers looked up to him as Starlord like he's a straight action hero when he's more of a deconstruction.
Do they?
They have both been adequate in other things and Pratt definitely had a *moment* when he had the 1-2-3 of JW, GOTG and Lego. But since then surely he's been shown up a bit. The rose has wilted. Passengers was the big 'scales come away from the eyes' moment for me, he just wasn't up to it and has just gotten worse and worse in things since (I have no idea what the drama around him is meant to be by the way, so that's not part of it)
BDH? A popular inside figure in Hollywood and clearly a driven and intelligent woman, at the same time never really seen anything that justifies the idea she's a good actress.
THAT SAID......there's no excuse for writing characters this bland, and this nonexistent. They aren't good, but most of the blame is the material they've been given for three movies.
Bryce Dallas Howard has an episode in Black Mirror that was fantastic, this is as far from that as it could be. It’s almost like the writing, directing, and production want to make the shiniest movie and see how much money they can make regardless.
The albino raptor in Malta was the coolest thing about the movie. It looked so freaking badass with the white skin and red eyes. 2 seconds of screen time tho lol
My family and I saw this last night, and we all left shaking our heads at how tragically bad it was. None of us can understand how the story was presented to the top studio executives, and they all said “yeah - that’s it!”.

It's shocking to me that none of the Jurassic World films have any scenes even half as exciting as the bird cage or barge scenes in Jurassic Park 3. In fact, the Kirby's are given more character development in one film than Claire and Owen get in the entire JW trilogy.
I know. People certainly overlook Jurassic Park 3. To me, it's the only other good one.
You talking about how this movie came out after Top Gun: Maverick makes me think that it would be great if you would do an analysis on what makes certain "legacy movie" remakes/reboots good and which ones have done it successfully so far considering how we've seen quite a few of them recently with Jurassic/Star Wars, etc.
As usual, love your review, Dan! It feels almost "satisfying" to hear you voice out everything that is wrong with this movie in an analytical way. Really appreciate you doing these videos!
I agree, would love to see Dan’s hot takes on movies that have succeeded or fail with the legacy sequel formula.

I feel the same way. The main thing I was disappointed with was the Dodgson/Biosyn storyline. He was so unimportant and underutilized that he was simply there to put a face on Biosyn. And Biosyn was only there to once again put the dinosaurs in a controlled environment. They destroyed the island only to be too afraid to show us actual coexistence with dinosaurs in real life situations.
DODGSON! WE GOT DODGSON HERE!
Still, nobody cares. Not even the filmmakers.
All I wanted was to see some dinosaurs running around the city. Otherwise my expectations were rock bottom. I gave up on expecting a good story. But to hear there was barely any of the dinos in the real world stuff? That's a whole different level of disappointment. Not sure I want to spend the money now.
The thing that they did to Maisie’s storyline is just sickening. Hilariously enough, Colin Trevorrow confirmed in a tweet that what Eli Mills said about her in Fallen Kingdom was true. So, basically, Maisie was cloned not because of an old man’s grief, but because Charlotte Lockwood didn’t understand the concept of adoption. Colin Trevorrow does not understand how to write a character.
But who gives a rat's ass that Maisie is cloned? Why does it matter--to her or to anyone else? She appears healthy and normal. Clearly, science has the cloning thing down. They're cloning dinosaurs, locusts, and people with ease. On top of that, she seems to have been adopted by two loving adults. So she has a functioning set of parents.
If it's not a problem, it's not a story point.
I need more Dan rants in my life! They're just a treasure.
Zero chance this is the last Jurassic franchise movie.
The reviews and word of mouth could hurt box office. It needs at least a 10 year break and then maybe a reboot.
Not unless they all decide to fight dinosaurs and aliens again with the rock and vin diesel with mini gun wielding raptors and for the sake of “for family”
I love the quote “instead of the filmmakers going insane, they get rich and I go insane”😂
Just had very mixed feelings overall. Some scenes were cool but the overall story felt very undercooked and underwhelming.
I saw it in 4DX and had a decent time. Having said that, I was in a theater full of people laughing as we were violently shook nonstop for 2.5 hrs...
The comparison between Maverick and Dominion is honestly hilarious. The movement in Maverick actually enhanced the experience and made you feel like you were in the cockpit. The movement in Dominion was so violent and distracting that I could barely follow the movie. Now I know why lol
Hard agree with everything you said Dan.
I was shocked to see how they did not use at all the concept of dinosaurs in the world. Absolutely absurd. They choose to make an inferior remake of the original jureasisc Park instead of attempting the only thing they promised and fans wanted.

Despite actually enjoying Jurassic World, I completely agree with Dan here. Why would you write a return to another park when you now have the possibility of at least doing something different with dinosaurs in towns and cities? Obviously that happened in The Lost World too but there was the opportunity for something much bigger here. Instead, they did the same thing again, only much worse.
You echoed pretty much my exact thoughts, Jeff Goldblum was the lone bright spot in this disappointing mess. His "1984" joke when he was trying to guess the code for the door made me audibly cackle😂

“Let’s just get this over with.” ALWAYS a great start to a review.
This has never happened to me before: Yesterday I had plans to see Jurassic World: Dominion. I had a ticket booked on my A-List app. An hour before the movie would start and I would need to leave my house something happened internally. I-I just lost my enthusiasm and energy to see the film.
Like, I literally l didn’t feel compelled to see something I had plans to see and that’s never happened to me for a movie. I’ve seen the last two films in theaters opening weekend. And I guess a week ago I was looking forward to seeing this film. But whatever energy or motivation I had for this entry was lost and instead I just stayed home. I think that speaks to how much I haven’t cared about any of these films and that subconsciously I convinced myself that I would see this film but when push came to shove I couldn’t be bothered to see it.
You got lucky. My only option is for find a tall building to jump off of or go on living while knowing that I witnessed something this terrible.
I’ve been waiting for your review specifically because I agreed so heavily with how you felt about Jurassic world 1 and thought you out it into words the best I’ve ever heard it so needless to say the like button is pressed 1.2 seconds into the video lol
Good punchlines, good structure, great pace, confidence in the writing... those elements made your critique, I thought, excellent, and the best I've seen in a long time. Bravo!
I thought you are talking about the movie…
Owen holds his hands out more than Dr Strange does circle hands.
I saw it last night and it’s okay if you can manage to turn off any semblance of thinking. I saw a lot of logic problems and the legacy characters had no reason to be there, in my opinion. I figured I’d be disappointed, but not on this level. The people they pay to write these screenplays apparently don’t watch films at all, let alone those that really work. Or, for that matter, read books.
I found it better than Fallen Kingdom, but what’s that mean and say? Making a film is a miracle alone, let alone a good one, so I don’t want to crap all over the hard work done by the crew, but it didn’t work for me.
Reading books is becoming a lost art.
It should be called Locust world what a pile of shit, that was supposed to be about the consequences of dinosaurs in the world. not the consequences of locusts
You are one of the most perceptive and articulate movie reviewers on UA-cam.
Thank you!
I loved how Chris Pratt played his character in Guardian's of the Galaxy (and Parks and Rec) and was looking forward to many more movies with him in it.. But the more I watch his performances in other movies the more I see that he really lacks that leading man charisma somehow, or needs the right director to wring that out of him.
I'd argue that it's more of the latter. I think he's definitely better in Guardians because of James Gunn's competence. Now that the Jurassic World franchise is (hopefully) done and Guardians will be soon, Pratt can move on the more meatier roles, if he so chooses.
Pratt in GOTG worked because he's a leading man that's not a leading man. James Gunn knows this.
His other action roles played him straight. His upcoming voice roles also feel like producers just think he's funny as a Lego without understanding why Emmett Brickowski is special.
It's more that the producers and writers have no idea how ta capitalize on his talents. They just put him in a bland action role... just because.
He looked disinterested
@@Dr._Mantis_Toboggan_Md. He agrees to take these roles.
Thank you Dan, for seeing this so I don't have to. Once upon a time I was a loyal fanboy for the Jurassic movies but the last one lost me forever. I needed to hear this was a major step back in the right direction to consider seeing it and welp, that doesn't seem to have happened.
Unless Dan gives Minions: The Rise of Gru a positive review against all odds, Jurassic World Dominion probably won’t be the only movie negatively-reviewed by Dan that has “minion” in the title.
As someone who enjoyed the last two Jurassic World movies fine (even Fallen Kingdom), even I can’t bring myself to see Dominion in the theater because of the disappointing reviews (also I’m pretty busy).
I’m sure Colin Trevorrow is a nice guy and made these movies with passion and with good intentions, but I don’t think I can consider him a good filmmaker with these JW movies (and The Book of Henry. Remember that movie?).
And the word "ass" in the title.
Allowing reviews to determine whether or not you see a movie, is pathetic
@@Hakudoshiii That’s pathetic of you to call me pathetic. I’ve seen and not seen movies regardless of critic reviews. I saw the first Jurassic World at home, but I did see Fallen Kingdom in the theater.

I saw the film last night and afterward I was talking with my friend about how Jurassic is such a huge, famous franchise, but that there is literally only ONE good film in it (the original, obviously). How do we have 5 whole movies that don’t even come close to being half as great as the first? How did that happen??
Granted, there are certainly fun moments and scenes throughout (the third is a guilty pleasure for me), but especially in the Jurassic World trilogy, they seem to miss a massive part of what made the original so great, and constantly try to overcomplicate everything.
Spot on.

Jurassic Park and Jaws are in my top 5 favourite movies. No other movie franchises now simultaneously bring me so much joy and so much sadness when I think of how far they've fallen. :( Great review, Dan!
Star Wars and Star Trek would like a word
Same, atleast the originals will always be there.
Nailed it as always. The odd thing is that the concept actually made a lot of sense, if you're in a world where we've mastered genetics so much that we're ressurecting extinct animals, it would make sense we'd be modifying current ones, as well as plants, to unimaginable levels. Even more importantly, we'd make huge leaps in terms of healthcare. But instead of using the concept to make a cool story, it just ended up as one of the many messy plot lines in the convoluted movie. And that's not even all, if only it was just the story, I was audibly yawning during some of the action sequences and the dialogue felt half the times like a first draft, I think just about every character made me cringe at least once. Not even Goldblum's charm could save all of his lines.
Great review as always! Thanks, Dan! I feel like the overarching problem in the story that the original Jurassic Park had were actual stakes! We didn’t know who would make it or not. Muldoon, Arnold, Nedry, etc. When we know everyone is gunna survive, it zaps any suspense out of the suspenseful moments the film tries to create.
You asked why the Execs keep giving the writers the job again and again? It's extremely simple: They get the job done, they get it done in a timely manner, and that job makes a TON of money. The execs see the dollar signs these movies make. They don't care about anything else. The story's shit, yup but who cares when it's bringing in a billion dollars, right? fuck, I'm so tired of these goddamn movies... can audiences please stop supporting them, so they can just fucking go extinct with the dinosaurs already?
Man, I just agree with you on every tiny point. Every sentence was gold.
Brilliant as always, thanks Dan
That freaking Mosasaurus peaking through the wave is horrifying...
I appreciate your honesty, Dan. I skipped Fallen Kingdom because of bad reviews, and it looks like I'll probably skip this one too.
Your skipping 2 hours of a film based on a UA-cam fellow? What a controlled life u have ! Nothing like subjection hey lol
@@FrancisDietPodcast Partially, yes. And I am sure you do too. Here's the thing, I'm not a huge Jurassic Park fan. I'm a casual fan of the firs film, and that's about it. That means that by default, the new films are not on my priority list. They have to sell me on it. The trailer for the first one made me curious to go watch it, and it was alright.
I was psyched for the 2nd one, but indeed, bad reviews made it it even less of a priority. I don't see what's wrong with that. If you just count the amazing films & TV shows that have and are being made, you have shit-ton of stuff to choose from, and you can't possibly watch them all. You have to prioritize. How does one do that? That's where professional critics, friends and family, etc...come in to help you decide.
Are there films that no matter what anyone says, I know I am going to watch them? Yes, absolutely (eg: Harry Potter). But that still means that at some point or another, someone sold me on it by them. It could be the trailer, or maybe it's an adaptation, and I am a huge fan of the author, or it's simply that I'm interested in the themes and want to be part of public conversation, regardless of if I like the film or not.
My point is, it's perfectly normal to allow critics, and other audiences, influences us in prioritizing which films we want to watch. We all do it. Including you.
The thumbnail told me everything I needed to know. Watched anyway to see the carnage. Dan is the 🐐
"That is one big pile of shit" - Dr. Ian Malcolm.
When the last movie grossed over a billion dollars, why would the executives want to change anything? That being said, I think you're right. Maybe I'll watch it when it makes it over to a streaming service for which I already have a subscription.
No one gets it like Dan, when it comes to just how awful the Jurassic World films are.
Thank you!
This is just my opinion, but I really enjoyed the first Jurassic World movie. Fallen Kingdom and Dominion were just horrible.
I was more excited for Dan’s review of Jurassic World Dominion than the actual movie. Did not disappoint with Dan.
Strapping in for the godly Dan rant that I know is awaiting me
I'm going to be the contrarian here: I had a blast with this! It's dumb as rocks, that's a given, but I enjoyed it (I went in with a mix of low expectations and was also probably hyped up from having seen it during its world premiere in Mexico City). One criticism I'm hearing a lot is that this film feels like a mix of other films and other genres, and frankly... the sequences that mix genres were my favorites of this film and the previous one. In the last one, I loved the idea of a haunted house horror film where the monster is a dinosaur, and here, I loved the chase scene through the streets of Matla, which felt like a globe-trotting James Bond movie with dinosaurs. Heck, at least that's creatively dumb.
The one thing I'm going to push back on from Dan's review is that the story has no structure, which it does. It has two overlapping plots, each with an inciting incident that kicks off their side of the story (in the case of Owen and Claire's plot, that's Maisie being kidnapped, in the case of Alan and Ellie's plot, that's the locusts bringing them together), and both eventually converge in the final act. And I found both these plots incredibly straightforward and all the beats leading up to the final act mostly quite predictable, which is definitely something to criticize, but in the end, this is a franchise that chose a very specific tone that revolves around the idea of running away from these man-made monsters, while at the same time fighting to preserve these monsters (who can't be as destructive as they probably would be in real life, because of the tone of this franchise).
This, ultimately, should not have been a franchise, because there is no way it could be anything but stupid... which is why I always enjoyed the sequels that could embrace just how stupid they could get.
I kept waiting for Tom Cruise to show up in Malta. I thought I was watching Mission Impossible.
Yeah it’s weird to me to say this movie has no structure or arcs. I would say Maisie and Ian both have character arcs, Claire maybe a tiny iddy bitty arc. And I think Alan and Ellie were given a good scientific problem to solve and I’m surprised how much everyone dislikes the attempt at being a real Michael Chrichron sci fi flick.
@@iforgot87872 I think that's an insult to Michael Crichton.
Russell Langworthy why? The locust idea/ a company abusing it’s power of patented crops is relevant to real-world abuses from companies like monsanto. The sci fi premise here is actually related to issues facing the real world right now, while fitting perfectly in with the theme of this franchise of abuse of genetic power. Why is it an insult? Btw I also hated the Malta scene.
@@iforgot87872 Ok, I'll concede that you're right when you put it in those terms. The locust idea could have been a stand alone movie of its own.
The sad part is I'm not even surprised. Fallen Kingdom was rubbish and I knew this would be just as bad, if not worse and it sounds like it's worse!
I thought it was worst tbh

Jurassic Park and The Lost World are the only two standouts and masterpieces in this franchise. They're the perfect duology with a great beginning and ending and none of the other sequels were needed.
I just can't ignore the similarities between the Jurassic World franchise and the Disney Star Wars Trilogy. You have the highly anticipated first installment that rehashed an old formula with an up and coming director, but left audiences excited for potential sequels; The controversial second installment that tried to go darker but was a critical failure; and the third installment with a returning director that tried to nostalgia bait its audience so hard but couldn't overshadow its glaring story problems and lazy writing. Additional Trevorrow worked on the Rise of Skywalker when it was previously called Duel of the Fates which is funny to me.
I honestly prefer the SW sequel trilogy. At least that trilogy had two good films in TFA & TLJ. This trilogy didn’t have ONE film that was even ok. (The first JW is the closest but even that film was just mediocre.)
Last Jedi wasn’t a critical failure at all - wasn’t even an audience failure until the hardcore toxic/Fandumb Maniacs and bots tanked the audience score.
TLJ vs Fallen Kingdom?
Yeah, the First one any day
@@titanguy7316 why would you not make movie for fans
@@shreyvaghela3963 do not consider “Fandumb maniacs” fans. They’re not. They’re toxic manbaby hooligans that deserve to fade into obscurity.
Did Sam Neill finally get to see Montana. He would like to have seen Montana.
Great review Dan. Looking forward to the next one and I really like the Sony shirt you’re wearing. If you ever decided to do videos on gaming I’d watch. Thanks for the content
When they had Grant do the Chris Pratt extended hand raptor thing I think I died a little inside
This has turned into a serious forgetting of who started it. Michael Crichton. Read the original book and figure it out. I'll still see it.
The whole point of Jurassic Park is that they open a theme park for dinosaurs and by the end of the movie determine that that was a very bad idea on every level.
If you want a movie like that to spawn a multi-movie franchise then you're part of the problem.
It can be done but they keep rewriting the same story in different ways instead of the much more compelling dinosaur apocalypse
@@seriousnesstv7902 but my point is Jurassic Park is a self contained movie about the question: "just because you can, should you?" The movie finishes with a definitive answer "Ive decided not to endorse your park" "so have I".
A dinosaur apocalypse movie is a dinosaur apocalypse movie. Sure, make a dinosaur apocalypse movie. But don't call it Jurassic Park.
Its like making a franchise out of The Usual Suspects or Seven or Fight Club.
And its weird to me that Dan and others would say "this movie lacks classic storytelling structure" etc and then say "Its a lost opportunity for a great franchise" because to me those two concepts are mutually exclusive when it comes to Jurassic Park. Because if you understand story structure then you understand the story is told and done.
@@uploadinstuff the problem is brand name, any d movie that tries to make dinosaurs scary or cool just don’t have the budget to do so
@@seriousnesstv7902 theres 65 vfx shots in jurassic park which would cost about 1 mil with todays vfx. You could definitely make a scary and cool dinosaur movie with a small budget these days. In fact I would argue the bigger budget makes everything less scary and cool.
But youre right the people who make these movies only care about branding etc and an entire generation of people are accepting that this is what movies are now and dont expect more which is a shame.
"You're going to get drunk about halfway through the movie and you're going to be glad that you did." LOL. Love salty Dan :D
Dan, if you see this. First off, huge fan. Your contributions to the freaks-and-geeks-in-real-life community is much appreciated. Second, I NEED to see a movie that you’ve written. Your skill as a critic also shows gifting in the creative areas as well. I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about writing a screenplay earnestly but I suspect that you have. It’d be cool to see your voice through a film as well as on the subject of a film. I think you’d make a great documentary about making the creative film.
The first Jurassic Park was a revolutionary film in terms of its visual effects. None of the other JP/JW films have been able to catch that kind of lightning in a bottle. They probably were never going to be able to.
I actually think the special effects in the new ones are worse than in the first couple of films
I agree with Dan in almost everything in this review, except I personally think Fallen Kingdom is worse than this. Dominion was mediocre and a boring mess where Fallen Kingdom was aggressively bad.
I miss movie fights because it gave room for your unfiltered spoiler-y thoughts about movies and I'm dying to hear them all about ANY movie you see 🥺
Very happy I'm not the only person who immediately noticed the missing lines from both trailers of Dr Strange and JP Dominion
Can you say you are a fan of the “franchise” if the only installment you actually like is just the original one?
I really liked what they did with the OG cast... None of the new characters were relevant to the story.
I appreciated that they didn't make the dinosaurs into villains again, so it felt more like a Jurassic Park than a Jurassic World movie.
I absolutely hated the last one, so feeling meh about this one was a step up.
You liked that the old cast went after world destroying giant locust? You must be a troll right?
@@adamgee4671 I liked the direction they took the characters, not the story. Without spoilers (since this is a no spoiler review), I thought the story was weak but those three characters were the best part of a mediocre movie. You don't have to agree, and I won't even call you names if you don't.
Thank you Dan. Just saw it an needed your review.
lmao, I love the idea of getting the writers together to tell them, "How dare you"
This might be a controversial statement, but this is my least favorite film I’ve seen this year. (And I saw Morbius on opening night.) The characters were so poorly written. It was endlessly convoluted. And it pretty much backtracks from other JP films. (Ex. The entire Biosyn storyline) It honestly felt like I was watching “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” again.
“They get rich and I go crazy.”
I’ve felt like that multiple times with these big franchises in the past several years. The Matrix 4, Rise of Skywalker, some MCU projects, Scream 6 (sorry), Fantastic Beasts 2&3, and the list goes on
Thanks for an honest review.
I love Malcolm's line... "Jurassic World, not a fan".
I've never seen any of the Jurassic World movies, to be fair, but they seem so incompetently made. It's legitimately astonishing. As entertaining as this review is, it is sad to see Dan so defeated by a film.
It's funny you mention that about the trailers because I watched the first Dune trailer again a few days ago and almost every single piece of dialogue in it is not actually in the film.
I watched J World after it was out of theaters and was very unimpressed. After the death spiral of Transformers movies (which didn't start nearly as good as JP did obviously) I wasn't going to get tricked into giving a studio money for this garbage again so I watched numerous long, scathing reviews of Fallen Kingdom and will do the same for this movie. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me...you can't get fooled again.
I really didn’t like Fallen Kingdom so I was completely shocked that I actually had a lot of fun with Dominion. It harkened back to the overblown, everything but the kitchen sink, big, silly summer blockbusters of my Gen as a millennial kid. Yes def some flawed story elements but I liked the structure of an OG storyline on one track, a new class storyline on another and them converging at the end. The villain that got us there was pretty trash though. I thought there was solid action, some nice character moments, the OG cast def made this movie but I left feeling overall like I had a good time. Was NOT expecting that lol
agree with everything you're saying
Absolutely agree! Don't know if it was because I watched it in 4DX. But I loved the jumpscares, the humor and the VFX. The storyline wasn't so great, but I think it was well compiled.
@@luna8613 yeah I saw it in 4DX as well so maybe that just added to the fun of it for us! Lol
@@jeanninebrice9107 Yes! I mean people are whining way too much I feel. We all knew that it wasn't gonna be path breaking. I'd kept my expectations at an all time low and it didn't disappoint me much😂
“banging pots and pans together.” Fabulous
Hm, now I'm wondering if I should return my ticket and get my $$ back, esp 'cause it's Dolby... is there anything worth seeing it in a THEATER for? Like great sound, or really cool shots? If not, I think I can wait to catch this on streaming
You can only make a difference with your wallet. So thanks for this review, I’m not spending a dime on this movie. Thank God for honest reviews with a deeper understanding of entertainment. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this honest review. It's refreshing knowing that there are people like you who understand the fundamentals of story-telling. As I got in the elevator this morning two people got in and one, with overwhelming excitement, said to the other 'I just saw the new Jurassic Park movie! It was SOOOOO good!' (sigh). To each their own...I guess.
Keep up the good work.
Those people are who these movies are made for
I hate the review.
I will never understand why Hollywood keeps giving Colin Trevorrow chances. He has yet to make anything resembling a competent film, and yes safety not guaranteed is included in this statement
I follow about 4 movie review channels. This is the one I have been waiting for. Like I had to get something to eat and watch type of excitement
I'll give credit for having the three legacy characters reunited, which was sadly missed with the SW sequel trilogy. Other than that, my biggest complaint for every sequel following the first is that we see too much of the dinosaurs over and over. Just like the terrible Jaws sequels showing us too much of the shark. I wish the Jurassic sequels would have talked more about the dinosaurs to make them more interesting like the first Jurassic Park and Jaws.
The movie is so souless. Where's the magic.
What's with the middle part that turns into fast and furious. It was like a completely different movie. It suddenly became a cringe heist movie.
What's with the music in this movie, generic action soundtrack. John Williams made the first movie, it was essential. The whimsical magical music.
Carefully setup scenes with a big payoff. None of it is there.
Jurrasic park 2 is a masterpiece in comparison, I love that movie, it actually has scenes with a payoff, not just meaningless moments.
Damn Dan…tell us what you REALLY think next time lol…Gonna see this tomorrow, and appreciate your heartfelt warning. Might really try that drinking game! Honestly Dan, you’re so incredibly good at what you do - I’d listen to you critique the phone book and be interested. Thanks from a big fan.👍🏾
I low key kind of want to see a movie review series that centers around why every movie being released (especially sequels) is not Top Gun: Maverick.
Fortunately, we have Marcel, which will always be exempt from not being Top Gun: Maverick.
I had always taken pride in the fact that I had never walked out of a movie I paid to see. That ended with Dominion.
You want an award for that or what? 😅
I still haven't bothered to see the previous movie because it sounded so bad. I have zero interest in this movie and your reaction really validates that feeling.
Low key the lighting in this video it reminds me of Jurassic Park. In the scene when they are having lunch. You've got the slide projectors clicking in the background.
Was fully expecting a sound of clattering silverware and dishes. From a fist bashing the table.
Great review, thanks!
