Hi Andrew - if I put my Onkyo RZ-50 in pure direct mode, would I not have a ton of more functionality for $1200.00 vs an $1800.00 strictly 2.1 amp with nowhere near the functionality? What are yours and Kristie's thoughts?

    • @billd9667
      @billd9667 9 місяців тому +2

@@Audiomainia2310 Well, if you require 5.1 Home Theater, the Onkyo makes more sense. I don't know about "more functionality". For stereo music alone, the 1000A does as much and with better (and more stable) power and fidelity than the Onkyo. The Onkyo cannot handle 4 ohm loads and lower with grace. This more or less comes down to the use of a very beefy 2 channel class A/B power supply vs. a switching class D that is asked to handle 11(!) channels.

Thank you, Andrew and Kristi for this timely video! I really wish more stereo receivers or integrated amps would come with HDMI given the convenience for movies & TV. At the end of the day, I just want a nicely constructed piece of HiFi equipment that is pleasant to look at and listen to, while being able to pull double duty for our entertainment room.

Good afternoon friends! I watched a few hours ago, but had to run out right after. This was a fun video, and very well done. Is it odd that the biggest draw to me is the variable loudness setting? I always enjoyed the option on my vintage receivers that I started out with. I hope you have a great one!

Every time I have used the Yamaha proprietary correction, it never sounds better than when I manually tune it when understanding all in every single setting of the equipment running through it in a way of trial and air to the ear plus previous knowledge of things, 100% of the time that always works out better and I wonder how many people just plug in the mic run its test and assume it's going to be better than anything that you can do? I'm here to tell you that is an incorrect assumption in a very large way! Appreciate the video as always keep up the great work!

Your talk about HDMI being digital reminds me of reading people bashing optical in favor of digital coax back in the day. I suspect this was driven by cable companies trying to push ridiculously expensive digital cables.
Audiophiles are weird. I’m glad there’s a bigger push for measurement data in recent years.
Anyway. Love your channel. I’m not at all in the market for this product but watch anyway.

Long time Yamaha owner here. Up until recently I had a WXA-50 and a RX-V481 active in different parts of my home. Although these two products were released close in time to each other, there seemed to be some sort of conflict present in how they connected to my router via wifi.
The WXA-50 was fine, and never dropped out or failed to find and connect to my router. The RX-V481 was a different story. A couple of times a week I would have to unplug it from power and plug it back in to get the network connection working. Nothing else I tried fixed the problem.
Fast forward to now, I have moved the WXA-50 on and since doing so, the 481 has not had an issue with its wifi connection.
Of course YMMV but it would seem there was some conflict with the two MusicCast devices connecting to my router via wifi.

Also for Dirac, it was a real gift from the universe (and the Swedish DSP algorithm wizards). As a person who's room has 2 huge almost +10dB peaks between 40 and 60hz (with a +5db "dip" between them) and then several +3-5dB peaks (and small dips) in the 100-200hz area, the implementation of Dirac took my 2.1 systems (connected to my TV with an HDMI 😉) sound to a whole different level. Even my mother would notice such a vast difference.

If you happen to hook the B&W bookshelves up, I would love to hear how it does. I have an older yamaha integrated from this line (303) and like it except that it struggles to drive my B&W bookshelves (CM5) as they are quite power hungry. Has Yamaha updated the musicast experience from 5 years ago? I find that it is a bit cumbersome compared to other streamers that I have played with. I do LOVE that it is part of the amp though. Thanks as always for a great review!

Yamaha is great right down to their simplest A/V receiver for which I have been using the Yamaha RX - V375 for at least 9 years ~ It has all the HDMI I need to connect everything I own Apple TV etc and although it might not be up to date to Andrew & Kristy standards I'll wait for this sucker to blow up before buying a newer AV receiver ~ I'm more of an audiophile than a videophile my audio room is more up to date than my video living room ~ If you are looking for value I can stand behind my own purchase of a Yamaha products ~ This Amp looks great although limited in it's execution ~ Another great review by A&K ~ Keep up the good work guys ~

I can plat both the 2.1 and the soundbar at the same time and it sounds fantastic for my needs in movies and when i listen to music i just go back to 2.1. I may buy tower speakers at some point, but im not sure if i really need them anymore!

Impressive product... I was surprised by Kristi's impression. The Yamaha N1000A has a lot in common with the A-S801 integrated amp. Kristi was not as enthusiastic with that. The N1000A does offer pre-amp outputs and apparently discards the subwoofer filter. Those are improvements! YPAO and HDMI offer benefits, but not for this two channel guy. FWIW we use a basic A-S301 that replaced Adcom separates when the GTP-500 refused to be repaired. The A-S301 cost less than the attempted repairs for the Adcom. Lesson learned...

For me personally Yamaha has always made professional products not just in their hi-fi equipment but generally anything they touch.
I think HDMI port is a handy thing to have, plug in your television or even just putting a HDMI Blu-ray player to your system is very handy feature.
I think this product in the 2 channel market will be very popular, Yamaha could be considered to be a little bit cautious in the way they present their products. But in saying that you know you are going to get a reliable and enjoyable product for the money you spend.
Andrew, I’d love to see you do a video on centre channels speakers, I think this is a topic that homes hi-fi thesis would love to have your feedback!

I'm taking long look at the Yamaha amps (receivers) This 1000 is a good value. The "2000" looks cool but has high price. Then the purer "1200" & "2200" Integrated Amps -- also of interest. Right now I'm between this "1000" level (but no meters, sadly) but size easier to deal with - as well as price. Or maybe stretching to get a "2200" at the best price I can find (even if I have to wait for a "special")
I have a Yamaha last 22 years -- the RX-777. It's a good Receiver, and better once broken-in for a year or two.
(I expect these newer Yamahas will also benefit by a good long break-in period.)

In the past you were a big proponent of AVRs for stereo/music with room correction being a main factor, and now there is the hybrid solution within the same price range (rn2000a being a lot more expensive). So should those of us considering 2(.1) setups for streaming and television who’d like some room correction still consider the RXA4A, or go straight for the rn1000a? And would that, in terms of quality (not just “waste of input space”), be a better choice? Or do AVRs, besides expandability, still have aces up their sleeves?

Hi! For about $1300 would this be a great buy comparing it to the audiolab 6000A + Node 2i? I’m a big fan of the HDMI Arc and that I will be able to use Apple TV remote to turn volume up and down. I just don’t know if sound wise it’ll be even a little better than the 6000A. I use this combo with the Heresy IVs.

hdmi input is fantastic to cover one scenario: optical disk player, with output hdmi-audio only; as there is one (reavon) that covers almost all scenarios, from CD/SACD, DVD-Audio, and maybe Bluray-Audio, it is even good to handle movie sound; and the power to move loudspeakers of 8ohms at 110-220w is an eye opener.

I think you're starting to see a real choice being offered to the consumer now. Like the Yamaha, the new Marantz Stereo 70s (2.1) vs the Marantz Cinema 70s (7.1) - single HMDI and high(er) output vs multiple HDMI with more speaker outputs (with a sacrifice in power and ultimate audio quality?)||
Each group can now optimise for their own preferences.
It would be interesting to understand the compromises / advantages of these choices in more detail.

This is interesting. My Onkyo TX-SR313 is long in the tooth and since going 2.1 for home theatre I've been looking for a 2.1 reciever I can use with my TV (and not break the bank). I think this is a good option for me, kinda bothers me to get a 7.1 or 9.1 AV reciever when only using 2.1. Thank you for pointing this one out.

Would you say these would make a good match for KLH Model 3s/5s like the RN2000 did? I work regularly with KLH speakers here in Australia, and the 2000 is still my favourite pair - After working a hifi show on the weekend, though, driving it with some SPL electronics which are super low distortion, I'm coming around to the more neutral electronics.
Also, KEFs always shock me with what they run best with. My experience with the NAD C368 with LS50 metas proved that their pairings so often come out of left field.

Thank you for the great review Andrew! But here is a question: Is there any reason I should prefer RN1000A over the RX-A4A (it's an AV, but I'm just thinking of stereo configuration)? The first one retails for $1,799 and the latter for $1,299 (there is a discount currently, but even without it it's still cheaper), while it has output power of 110 watts per channel and Also gives you the flexibility to build your surround system if you wish. Are there any fundamental differences in these Amps that make the RN1000A better for music? I am no hi-fi specialist, so probably will not notice minor differences in the sound. And another question: did you have a chance to run PolkAudio R700 on one of these receivers/amps? How did that go? :) (was there enough power?)

I’m a bit late today, but I’ve got thoughts lol:
    1) HDMI today is a must in any integrated amplifier for me. Those who think you need everything separately, then go separates? Integrated should be fully capable of doing whatever you want from it aside from making you dinner. HDMI is a must.
    2) I think audiophiles (not all of them, but a lot of them) have been holding this hobby hostage, with their stubbornness and their inability to accept progress and change. That needs to stop and we’re seeing more and more brands realizing it and starting to go out there like this Yamaha.
    3) I’m absolutely going to choose a cheaper integrated from the same brand if it’s performance sonically is 90% of the top dog yet the price is 50-60%. That’s awesome, we need to see more products like this and especially with tons of features built in.
    4) Awesome review as usual! I think this piece of gear is an absolute steal. Especially when you compare it to Rotel S14 and that price…
Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!

Hey Andrew, I'm looking for an amp to power a new set of KEF R7's. I was looking at the Naim Nova but it was pushing my budget and both this R-N1000a and R-N2000a came up. I've only heard the R7s with the Naim which was awesome but obviously that comes with a cost... I still can't believe the cost of the 1000a compared to both the others for that amount of Watts. What is your recommendation, if I can get the Nova for the same price as the 2000a? My assumption is if I have the budget get the Nova, if I'm trying to save go with the 1000a and I should still be pretty happy, at least for a bit... Any thoughts?

I have this product, I upgraded from a 6000a and features on this are just way better, being able to level match the DB on the inputs is SO handy! the loudness control is something I use a lot also and I feel that more companies should add to their products, the only thing I was slightly upset with was the phono preamp compared with the previous audiolab, however this I intend on upgrading regardless so nothing I’m losing sleep over! Interested to see your comparison with the technics, as that was my other option but the wattage was something I was really worried about and also I thought it might be more ‘clinical’ sounding, very happy with my Yamaha!

Yamaha has always been my go to recievers. Don't laugh, but my current Yamaha is a RS 202, with blutooth and RCA inputs. I have a older node 2i as a streamer, and some Klipsch R51M speakers. Running a optical out from the TV to the node, and both my mac mini M1 ( with a Apple headphone dongle as my dac), and my PC using RCA's. I still listen to CD's with a NAD 542. I have a Monoprice flat 10" sub. This all old school hookups, the sub with speaker level hookup as well. The set up sounds fantastic! I really don't see a need to upgrade. The one thing about Yamaha recievers, amps is that they just last. Living in socal without A/C I don't worry aboot them overheating etc. as far as sorround I left that station years ago. I just enjoy a simple 2.1 setup.
