too funny. i think BMPCC is paying these people. That rig is so rigged out that it makes me want to hire that guy just to see if he can actually shoot for 10 minutes handheld with it.
The weak link in a rig like can be the D-Tap splitter. If you're building one, make sure you get a good quality splitter. Everything receiving power from the V-mount depends on it and if the splitter dies, you'll be attaching individual batteries to everything again. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Yup. The BMPC cameras’ 4K 6K and 6K Pro are unreal cameras. I think they are leading the game right now for the price. It truly is amazing what black magic created.
for the price maybe, but what else are they offering apart from the sensor? shitty battery life, fixed screen, no full frame, no af, questionable, output (1080?), etc
Aside from great colors and Braw, I think BM cameras are an absolute disaster and a remarkable half ass. Just look at what this dude had to build on top of it in order to make the thing even work. I am returning my BM4k for a Fuji XT4 actually. Absence of C-AF and OIS is ridiculous. Fuji is a complete camera for slightly more money, while BM is a half ass that you will need to build into 5 kilogram rig in order to be able to shoot with it.
Great build-out! Love the detail you put into this video. (One thing I'd recommend is that if you're going to use a 21:9 aspect ratio for a video, go ahead and make your timeline & export that same ratio so that when someone with an ultrawide monitor can watch the video without black bars on the top, bottom, and sides.) Again, love the video, just my 2 cents on the export settings. 👍🏼
Thanks man! I actually export this way for a specific reason. The vast majority of my viewers are on mobile so I export the video in 2:1 to fill the screen as much as possible. I then add bars because on mobile, native 21:9 gets cut off on a lot of phones (like the iPhone). I’ve gone back and forth over whether to go native or bars, but settled on this for now. But anything not meant for YT is always native.

How's that working out for you? Are they pretty easy to match? I have a 6K, and have kicked around the idea of picking up the G2 but honestly aside from the ND and some of the IO it's a bit hard to see the value of the G2 vs the 6K...especially since now the 6K has an ND filter onboard and 2 XLR preamps. Yo dude, I don't understsand how you attached that monitor mount. The cage clearly has the screw but also 2 VERTICAL arri locating pins? this is kind of messing with me since you can not attach any thing in that way?
Hi, Matt! Just bought some of the same stuff to rig mine out to be basically the same as yours. Thanks for the video! Quick question about mounting the D-Tap Splitter to the cheese plate? I bought the cheese plate for the splitter to attach to, but the screws aren't long enough to physically mount the splitter to it. Did you buy longer screws or did you do it another way? Just wondering how I should probably go about it. Thank you for any information!
the link for the Tilta Side Handle is wrong, this one doesn't fit the cage for the 6k pro, i bought it then i found out there is 3 types of mounting the handle
I love your video; thanks for making it. I'm looking to rig out my cam. Question... You said the F4 lens is not good for low-light conditions. What camera lenses would you recommend for "Low Light" conditions? Thank you!
I was recently put off from powering everything from the same battery on my P4K rig after I heard that doing so was frying the HDMI ports on some cameras. Is that something you've heard about or had to deal with?
Hey, fantastic vid. Wanted to ask -- with more than a year since you posted does it all still ring true, still you're go-to rig set-up? Any changes you'd make with a year more filming under you? Also, any sample footage from this rig that we could check out on your page?
I would love to know exactly how you have attached the monitor that low down on the Tilta Cage as it only has three vertical holes at that point. Great video.
Don't worry I studied your video a little closer and noticed you'd attached a cold shoe to the 1/4”-20 hole and ignored the locating pins above and below.
I still debate whether I should get a 24-105 because they're very affordable in my area but f4 makes me hesitate. On the other hand, I have plenty of fast vintage and modern lenses but don't have midrange zooms. Can you tell more about low light and how does it perform? Is it bright enough for golden hour/sundown situations?I intend on using a 0.71 speed booster.
I think it works fine for golden hour. That’s when I do a lot of my shooting anyway. With the speedbooster it’s even better. That what I used on my Pocket 4K before this.
@@mattgonzalez Yes with a speedboooster it's f3 which is close enough to 2.8 but I did have radial blur in the corners with sigma lenses when using that "extra stop of light" everyone talks about

I bought my BMPCC 6k also as a temporary video camera (while waiting for A7S3 or R5). And I wouldn't change it for any of them. I got my 6k for more than a year now, and it's not going anywhere. Amazing camera, although you need at least battery plate to fight the run time on internal one. I would get Basecamp some day ;).

Yo dude, I don't understsand how you attached that monitor mount. The cage clearly has the screw but also 2 VERTICAL arri locating pins? this is kind of messing with me since you can not attach any thing in that way?
Have you experienced your HDMI port frying when running both your external monitor and camera off the V-mount?
does the tilta cage you put in your description works with bmpcc 6k pro?
Great video! Is this Tilta cage Tactical Grey or Tilta Grey in color? I'm trying to decide what I like better.
Love how you've maintained the pocketability 😜
Nice rig bro!! I love the blackmagic platform. I spent over$14K rigging my 4K out now I want the 6K pro. Thanks for sharing!!
Whoa! I'd love to know what you rig is made up of.
the link for the Tilta Side Handle is wrong, this one doesn't fit the cage for the 6k pro, i bought it then i found out there is 3 types of mounting the handle
Great video. How do I get the Blackmagic Interface on my Atomos Ninja V?
You mentioned you had the wireless follow focus but what happens if you need to zoom??
I love your video; thanks for making it. I'm looking to rig out my cam. Question... You said the F4 lens is not good for low-light conditions. What camera lenses would you recommend for "Low Light" conditions? Thank you!
I was recently put off from powering everything from the same battery on my P4K rig after I heard that doing so was frying the HDMI ports on some cameras. Is that something you've heard about or had to deal with?
As a Tanzanian filmmaker, blackmagic is a very great Camera
Hey, fantastic vid. Wanted to ask -- with more than a year since you posted does it all still ring true, still you're go-to rig set-up? Any changes you'd make with a year more filming under you? Also, any sample footage from this rig that we could check out on your page?
Excellent job Matt! U just topped every other video in competition with this camera! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
How are you using a tilta cage and side handle made for the 6k, instead of the 6k pro. does it fit?
What's your take on using it for live streaming to UA-cam for churches
I would love to know exactly how you have attached the monitor that low down on the Tilta Cage as it only has three vertical holes at that point. Great video.
Don't worry I studied your video a little closer and noticed you'd attached a cold shoe to the 1/4”-20 hole and ignored the locating pins above and below.
Does work well in low light I have used BMCC 4k great camera but in low.light its terrible is it better with this newest model?
I still debate whether I should get a 24-105 because they're very affordable in my area but f4 makes me hesitate. On the other hand, I have plenty of fast vintage and modern lenses but don't have midrange zooms. Can you tell more about low light and how does it perform? Is it bright enough for golden hour/sundown situations?I intend on using a 0.71 speed booster.
I think it works fine for golden hour. That’s when I do a lot of my shooting anyway. With the speedbooster it’s even better. That what I used on my Pocket 4K before this.
@@mattgonzalez Yes with a speedboooster it's f3 which is close enough to 2.8 but I did have radial blur in the corners with sigma lenses when using that "extra stop of light" everyone talks about
Hey dude I fried my HDMI ports powering the camera and monitor from the same source. Think about investing in NPF batteries for the monitor
I’ve heard that, but BM said you just need to turn on each device sequentially instead of all at once.
How did you fix the HDMI issue bro?
I have the same issue, but I’m afraid we don’t have any service locations for BMD in India.
@@asifmsvisuals I just use a v mount for the camera and a NPF 970 for the monitor
@@seamuscurranvlogs9297 thanks for the reply. I actually wanted to know how you fixed the HDMI port in your BMPCC
@@asifmsvisuals I had to send it away for repair
Great Rig!! Is necessary to buy the metabones adapter to mount canon lenses?? Thanks!!
Thanks! And no, the BMPCC 6K has an EF mount standard.
Great video Matt. Question: Any suggestions on transporting fully rigged camera? I have not found a way to transport in vehicle safely without unrigging everything. Concerned about plugging and un plugging cables. Thanks.
Check Portabrace, they make bags wide and tall enough to put your fully rigged camera
Finally somebody that says I don't need to upgrade 👍🙂

I bought my BMPCC 6k also as a temporary video camera (while waiting for A7S3 or R5). And I wouldn't change it for any of them. I got my 6k for more than a year now, and it's not going anywhere. Amazing camera, although you need at least battery plate to fight the run time on internal one. I would get Basecamp some day ;).
Loving this rig. Well done! I also went the “tall” route and am looking to go long. Thanks my friend.
That tiltable handle is dope.
Just curious, where it has the built in ND filters, why use different ND filters? Is it a quality difference?
Awesome video, great tips, might look at that follow focus unit! Your rig is fantastic!
@2:03 i can see your usb-c port looks deattached . mine has same problem and i was afraid of using it over and over and somehow broke it . and cant find 90degree adaptor thats works for bmpcc6k . what do you think we can fix that issue ? yours gave me same anxiety as well :D
My port is still good luckily. It does look kinda weird in the shot now that you point it out, but it's still a solid connection that doesnt wiggle. I'm using the Tilta USBC 90º adapter and that works great.
BTW add a portkeys monitor BM5 IIIwr 5 inch or soon their 7 inch BM7Wr those let you do bluetooth camera control of almost all main functions
Matt, quick question - what did you use to film the actual video? Aka yourself talking about the 6k pro?
And how did you get that soft film look?
Thanks
He said 'That was shot with another bmpcc 6K and aptitude 300D. Bunch of other small lights too'
genius, thank you so much for this calm and genuine exploration of your rig much appreciated.
Thanks for watching!
I agree , I have a Z6 and want to build a rig around it , this has given me a great insight , not a shouty presenters calm collected in control
how much would the total cost be, with all that, to bring the end output that you were showcasing?
Do you have a handheld camera reel with this camera? I currently shoot with an Lumix S5 which is amazing! But I worry about not having IBIS because I shoot so much handheld. not looking to upgrade just to have a dedicated cinema body since I use my S5 for photo as well. I have not seen a lot of Bmpcc 6K handheld footage. Just found your Channel today!
Best review and awesome rig Matt!
Matt baby, that is so killer. Do you have a list of the gear? And do you have footage of the 6k that comes out of all that?
What is that little adapter that you used to attach your monitor mount to the front of that Tilta top handle??
A fellow 6K and 24-105 shooter! We have very similar rigs. I may have to give that tilting battery plate a try!

Love the Look and Setup of your talking head part, what gear did you use for that?
That was shot with another bmpcc 6K and aptitude 300D. Bunch of other small lights too
And how much does it cost all together? I assume that if add a little bit more you can buy something like Canon c70 or Ursa mini pro.
You could, but for the Ursa you’d still need to rig out a bit. C70 is a great option, but I still thinks this beats the price. Autofocus is what makes me want the C70
Is it possible to place this whole rig to a dji ronin rs2 with tilta float?
How do you power the ninja V with the V mount battery. I am having trouble i am not sure if its the cable> can you help me
i am using the usb porrt from my v mount battery
You need to get a dummy battery for it to work. I linked the one I use in the description. I don’t think the Ninja can run off USB
what do u do when a scene calls for a shot form the inside of a refrigerator?
I would break down the camera as much as possible to fit it inside. Or these days I would try an iPhone 16 Pro with ProRes LOG
bro the lighting in this video is fire 😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Those are some smooth torches.
Hi! Great video! Quick question, I’m assuming the battery plate and battery will work with the 6K Pro as well?
It should. The power connector is the same.
@@mattgonzalez awesome! Any chance you could do an episode on a 6k Pro build out? I can’t seem to find cages anywhere, any suggestions for universal cages or rigs?
very impressive setup, I am planing to foloow this for my self despit one issue thats stopping me from this is over heat issue... do you have a solution for that as well??
Great video Matt and good voice to. It ispires me to build my own rig frome Tilta for the bmpcc 6k pro. I found out one problem! De Samsumg T5 is using the usb-c port from the camera. The side handle type II from Tilta came also with a usb_c cable. De camera has only one usb_c port. That means i can't use the record buttom on the side handle. How did you get around this problem?
best regards, Ron
That is true. I don’t use the record button on the handle. I usually have two hands on the camera so I can use the record button on the actual body. Thanks for watching!
What Camera did you use to film this video and were you using a filter? Thanks
yoyoyo!
Have you tried a bigger matte box? I tried one of those and I feel like they are only cosmetic or a ND filter holder.
can you please throw a number in the room, so we get an idea at which price point we'll arrive currently? I would honestly get it exactly the way you build it, it fixes all the problems I had with other people's rigs. But, as always, the price, sadly, matters.
And one more question: how fast is the responsiveness of the tilta handle focus "button"? As in: is there a noticeable delay? Is there any?
Which camera are you using in this video?
Excellent video. The follow focus you’re using addresses my biggest challenge with my 6K. Thank you!
how are you mounting the D-TAP splitter? it looks like velcro straps?
which camera did you use to film your video and the shot of the 6k pro - it looks fab
Thanks! I used a Canon R6 and another Pocket 6K
I thought the same thing! Beautiful shots. I’m guessing the 6k was the A cam?
That rig looks so cool! Love it! I hope some day i can buy at least a BMP4k
This rig is sick! What was the total cost including the easy rig? Def want to setup something similar and use your links
How did you sync the Monitor to match the LCD on the blackmagic?
