You want it to slide. The weight hits the floor before the lure when you jolt or flick your rod, then the soft plastic free falls like if it doesnt have a weight. If you put a tooth pick in it it essentially becomes a jig head but i dont like it because it doesn’t actually look like a fish head.
@@JVBfishingand it works. However when i do this i cant seem to catch a stripped bass. They seem to be picky on even the jig-head you use. If i have a sliding weight and white fluke i will only catch largemouth bass. But the moment i use a nail weight(no jighead/hidden jighead) they want to hit it and they dont hit it on a retrieve. I have to pause and then come up like a flutter spoon. And thats when they hit it. But this does work. If anything paint a couple weights put some eyes on them.😂
Everyone is suggesting alternatives, I think this is just in cases where you already have one thing and not the others. Or else you wouldn’t even need to make this modification if you had a specific tool/weight/whatever
Quite a negative comment. The guy who originally commented the tip started off saying "Old timer trick". He's a seasoned fisherman who has acquired a well of knowledge over the years from other fishermen and is now passing that knowledge on to the younger generation, just like someone did for him years ago. No human knows how to do anything before they're taught how to do that thing.

That is a good point, but at that point you might as well throw a carolina rig.
@@JVBfishing what you first demonstrated was a texas rig
@@JVBfishing it already had a name you essentially made a texas rig into a jig

@@abelnunez8562 Except Texas rigs are generally more weedless.
Yeah but it works just as good
Or get a stop bead?
Yeah, this is just a cheap way to start pegging your weights with things you might already have.
Use a sinker stopper
Didn't you already say that?
You can buy a pack of weight stoppers for the same price of a pack of tooth picks
There are also little plastic stoppers shaped like a toothpick but tapered
Okay, I'll have to try those out too
Or use a bobber stopper??
I didn't have any on hand so
Or just use a bobber stopper btw it is a little rubber thing with a hole in it
Next time I go to the store, I'll pick some up
So we kinking our line ?

That's true. I don't own any weight pegs, so this was handy.
I just use a split shot
That's a good idea as well
How did you knot know that? Thats 50 year old technology
I just started fishing a little over a year ago

Use a sinker stopper
That is the other option
