    Maybe you could consider a water wheel for the big pond, have it powered by solar panels; or use a vertical design where the vanes themselves are turned by the wind. It would be a passive source of aeration.

    Your snake friend is a harmless nonvenomous banded watersnake.

      @@odbo_One yes....several harmless snakes are mildly venomous. They have prey specific venom that isn't medically significant to humans. Fire ants are venomous too, but aren't considered medically significant to humans (unless highly allergic, or you get several thousand bites at once - similar to bee stings).

    • @BlueCyann
      @BlueCyann 3 місяці тому +6

      Can confirm! The shed is in such good condition that you can clearly see the "googly eyes" toward the top of the head that a water snake has.
      The main reason that "triangular/arrow shaped" head isn't a good guideline is that non-venomous snakes can spread out their jaw and body to look bigger and more threatening to potential predators. It's not exactly the same as how a pit viper looks, but it's close enough for confusion. Apparently the shed can take on that same shape, which is something I didn't know.
      The subreddit /r/whatsthissnake is really good for improving recognition of US species, because they come up there every day.

      @@kikstand2011 Yeah, my husband once got chomped by a garter snake for fifteen minutes straight trying to free it from some netting, and that wound up with his hand getting a little bit swollen and itchy for about a day. Very minor effects even from that amount of exposure.

    Been watching since before this pond. Started watching on the first backyard pond. I'm a Herpetologist out here in Las Vegas. I just really want to commend you on not harming the native snakes!! They play a very important role in your ecosystem and are very beneficial. So far, all of your snakes that you've shown are harmless Water snakes or Rat snakes. This video contained both main Rat snake species native to your area. Love seeing it!! Again, Thank you!
    Also, it is difficult (sometimes) to tell a snake species from their shed. However, I can confirm with you that this snake shed is a harmless species. If it were a Cottonmouth (aka Water Moccasin) the scales would be larger and have a more pointed teardrop. It's also too large to be a Eastern Coral. So most likely a harmless Water snake or Rat snake using the water for extra moisture to remove the itchy skin easier.

    My friend has a 5 acre pond. His is feed by 5 springs on his property. One comes out of the ground in the middle of the pond. He has two diffusers and a large surface aerator that brings water from the bottom to the surface like yours. It has a timer that runs all it during the night. He doesn't use fertilizer, he uses pond dye (green), and those tablets that kill what he calls muck. Once a month. He never has any issues with his pond at all. Except when there is heavy rainfall it gets stained from muddy runoff. I really enjoy your videos.

    I don't know why this showed up in my algorithm, but I'm so glad it did. Your ponds are great to see. Growing up, my grandparents had a farm with two ponds. The bigger one (probably 3 or 4 acres), they built themselves out of a swampy area at the bottom of a hill that was fed by a couple of tiny streams. They definitely had their fair share of algae. They'd go around in a rowboat clearing it all out manually with the oars. As a kid it was fun to help. The kind they had would come out in great big pieces that you'd chuck onto the dam or the uphill shore and just let it dry out. But otherwise it was really nice and seemed to take care of itself somehow. Lots of minnows, lots of frogs. Turtles sometimes. I'm not sure whether there were larger fish in the deeper parts since none of us were into fishing.

    for the cameras, you could use OBS to combine all the streams into one single video for livestream upload. you'll be limited to 1080p since there aren't any 4k livestreaming platforms. So that'll mean 4-6 Standard def cameras combined into a 1080p stream. Unless you go lower resolution you'll be limited by the streaming platform, and if you go lower resolution, nobody will be able to see what's going on. You might think about putting up 2 streams, like 4 cameras for the 5 acre pond, and 4 cameras split between cedar falls and the fields.

    For a streaming solution I would recommend a Blackmagic ATEM Mini. There are options for 4 or 8 HDMI inputs. The device will allow direct to UA-cam streaming, or can act as a webcam via USB. Should do the trick. You'd end up creating one video stream that includes all the cameras on one screen - it wouldn't allow a viewer to pick a specific stream though.

    The baby bass fry are fantastic. Congrats. I feel like an uncle, since I've been watching for years now. So my suggestion is you do all three. Scoop some up, put a few in the 300 gal, a couple in the wetland area and leave the rest in the bigger pond. let's see how they grow in different environments.....

    I'm still gonna recommend some sort of pond plant to help with algae control. Plants will feed on the nitrates in the water which will reduce the food source for the algae. While the plants can grow out of control, the shade and nitrate consumption will greatly reduce your algae and provide additional fish habitat and protection for predators.

    We use it with a Starlink, around where the farm is located, paired with cellular data for some broadcast we do.
    You might could get by with a peplink as well, just to pickup on those times when Starlink re-syncs.

    How cool would it be if you added a floating island planter with a tonne of aquatic plants. The roots stay at the top of the water column, keeping the risk of spread next to impossible, nor would it effect to clay liner. the roots would provide habitat and pool excess nutrients out of the pond. It would be so cool to see some diversity in pond I think :) Big fan by the way
