    I have put a couple of video`s for this glider on my volantex flying group youtube channel, yes its a truly great new Phoenix but does have some negative points, the kit like i bought did not ship with a plywood lipo tray, lucky i still had the one from my original P1600 one flight wonder, also i had a little tumble with this new P1600 S and the "tough" fuselage cracked in 2 spots around a wing seat, and worth pointing out the PNP should NOT be flown on 3s with stock prop....the 1400kv motor will melt. Andrew as always, thanks for great flying and really good video`s

      Julian Humphrey I flew my version 2 2400 with a three cell and stock prop and it ripped the motor clean out of its mounts.

      Yes good point, not easy to repair if you crash hard enough to crack the plastic.

    Absolutely brilliant once again Andrew! There is a fairly strong wind blowing here in Tassie at the moment so I haven't been flying my glider but after watching this video I now realise that I should make the most of the wind ! It looks far more exciting than a light breeze! You are an inspiration once again so thankyou!
    Cheers

    Having got a volantex ranger 600 and put a couple of flights on it, I got myself this Phoenix S. Andrew makes this look very easy to fly, but flying as a beginner is really difficult. Im putting my lipos into storage mode and getting some more flights in on the ranger 600 before I bring the phoenix back out this summer. Thank you for your videos Andrew!!

    From one Aussie to another, I must admit Andrew your channel is one of the easiest channels to watch. maybe its just the no BS approach in you delivery. Keep up the great content, also keen to see more on that Reptile Dragon, thinking that will be a good replacement for my tired AR900. Cheers

      I'm about ready to give my Dragon a LOS test flight and will be installing an F405 later. Been posting progress on an RCG thread started by Jake Bullit. A few other guys have built and flown them and several are waiting for theirs to arrive. Apparently they were back-ordered not long after Andrew's video.

    I Maiden flew Mine yesterday in a howling southerly, I held it up to toss it into the wind an it pulled itself up an away outta My hand without warning!
    I had a grin from ear to ear as it flew so good. Two minutes in and it looked as if it had taken some BF109 rounds to the motor, smoking heavily I quickly landed to find the motor fried and the mount melted? Hope Bangood have these motors available.
    Great review Andrew, can't wait to get this bird up again, Yum.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  4 роки тому +2

      Excellent, but it is only a 2S power setup. The prop is too big for 3S and the stock 1400kV motor.

      @@AndrewNewton I took it out this afternoon with the best south easter blowing, smooth an perfect for lift, the thing just flew perfect!
      I had to fit the new motor outside on the front cause of the shaft being the opposite of the original motor an the CG was spot on. I was in the groove till I lost My bearings an Crunch.Snapped a wing clean in half. So I pulled out My ASW 28 for its maiden, mucking with flaps an floating about it was awesome, huge an glowing in the sun I was in heaven dreaming of a sweet touchdown on My huge low tide runway, confident in its massive profile I was heading out to sea and heading way back into the sun over Warrell Creek and then out at sea I was hooking it when again I lost its profile so I flicked the flaps thinking I would get some relativity an all I saw was My big baby corkscrewing and splat. I stood on the shore picking up the parts as They washed in. Still Psyched for My next Bird.

    You could definitely add flaps to the inner section of each wing. They might be short-ish, but better than nothing, and if it was me I would be flattening the wing tips too. When I did that to my Bixler2 it gained lift!

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 років тому

      No to flaps, but I like the idea of flattened tips. I will do that at some stage.

    • @peterlehmannl5972
      @peterlehmannl5972 5 років тому

      wordreet how did you flatten the tips? Heat and hold?

    • @wordreet
      @wordreet 5 років тому +1

      @@peterlehmannl5972 Yes, basically. But a little at a time as I imagined the foam might split if I tried to do it all at once. I removed the servos and clamped the wing to my table with a plank of whatever I had available. I used a good quality hair drier by the way, www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HP4395-SalonDry-Active-Hairdryer/dp/B005HQGKRE as I needed the heat to penetrate rather than just be at the surface. A Heat gun will destroy the surface rapidly! And I only paid £20 by the way.
      To begin with the wingtip was on the table, not over the edge. That provided a sort of safeguard that I wouldn't go too far. I had to use another piece of wood to do the bending as the heat was too much for my fingers. I had to eventually move the wing tip over the edge of the table and bend it down further. Even so I still ended wit the tips slightly curved up, but only about 15% of the original appearance. It wasn't perfect and took a long time, but it definitely increased the available lift.

    • @wordreet
      @wordreet 5 років тому +1

      Oh, and I then moved the wing back in to the table surface incrementally as I worked nearer and nearer to the tip. Don't forget, you're "forming" the foam, rather than purely bending it. And it will try to return to its original shape a little bit over time.

Love your videos and cats. Thanks
