    As having a few close calls myself with the notorious Raptor V2, I am so glad Volantex did there homework by listening to your past reviews on there platforms Such a superb review and glad they fixed both the tip stall issue and the motor angle. That narrow profile is also quite interesting .. seems like the new fad.

      Not sure if its a new fad, but it may add to the overall efficiency improvements on this plane that could end up flying well over 1 hour! :)

      I have a Quanum Observer FPV Plane (Volantex Ranger EX Clone) and fly her with a 4S 10,000mah battery. I haven't gone for a super long lasting flight yet, but I've been reaching a little over 30 minutes easily... Again I haven't test yet how much longer would I be able to keep her flying because It scares me to think on losing her due to a lost of power, lol...
      Here is a 7 mile flight with her...I hope that you like it!

    As a beginner, I don't really like this as a first plane (although, the plastic fuselage is super durable and the wings are pretty tough as well), but man this thing is heavy and made to feel even heavier because when you toss it in the air it feels even heavier because of the that 2 meter wing span. Once it get's in the air it flies great (at least for a beginner like me). I also have the ZOHD Dart 250g and the ZOHD Drift. Of the three, I think the Drift is the easiest for a beginner to learn on, especially if you go the Kopilot Lite and VC400 combination. All of the guys with years of experience flying planes will tell you to trim the plane in manual mode 1st before putting a flight controller and FPV system. If you already know how to fly LOS in manual mode, then that probably works well. If you're new to planes, you don't even know how to fly. If you launch in manual mode and don't know how to fly, you are going to crash and crash bad ( a lot),. For me going the kopilot route, took some of the guesswork out of getting into the air in the 1st place (and back down). It gave me a chance at learning how to fly before I tried to put it into manual mode to trim it out. The other thing for a beginner is that it is super easy for you to get disoriented flying LOS or just lose your plane in a blink of the eye. Again, that is where the KOPILOT helped out. I could try flying LOS and then if I got in trouble, I could hit the RTH switch and save it. Still not great at LOS, but I'm better. Clearly this is not the path for everyone, but coming from quads to fixed wing................I'm sure that I'm not the only one confused when they make the jump over to fixed wing

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  3 роки тому

      Well I do agree... between this one and the Drift, the Drift is the beginner model to go for, no question about it! KoPilot does help greatly, and its ease of setup is quite useful! :)

    I just received mine and the weather was good for flying but they didn't include the prop mount so I have to wait patiently until Banggood send me a replacement. One thing I did find after the build was that with two 2200mAh batteries mounted one in front of the other gave perfect balance. I mght end up connecting them in series to get longer flight time as the 2200 is my favorite battery and I have a few of them. The only disadvantage of this is that the second battery as additional weight is rather far back - a lighter weight in the nose would be better.

As of today Banggood offers the Volantex Ranger 2000 Kit for $99US and the PNP for only $30 more. One of the recommended parts Banggood lists is a Volantex Xpilot AX601 6-Axis Flight Controller Stabilizer. Is this something you would recommend yourself? How would a Flight Control Stabilizer benefit this plane, if at all?

    I'm in no position to be getting back into big fixed wing planes... not at all... _BUT IF I WAS..._
    This plane
    As big a prop as it will take without nipping into foam
    I'm thinkin' a 1500 - 1600kv motor
    Nip the curled part of the wingtips off, leaving them straight as possible
    Dragonlink long range controller or whatever passes for best these days
    Long range high power vtx and a VERY low light camera to match it. HD if possible. Starvis or similar for sure, especially with the 3d noise reduction to combat low light noise
    Probably 4S with huuuuuge capacity, edging toward the weight limits of the plane but not overboard
    Work it over at the nose end to give a clear bubble housing a pan and tilt assy for the cam
    Full on OSD system with GPS
    Mayyyyybe a little gyro stabilization either in the control surfaces or the cam itself to cut wobble from turbulence
    Ohhhhh how I miss my fixed wing planes, crack of dawn with dew all over the grass, a touch of cold breeze in the air and the morning buzzards just starting to circle overhead. Such good times. :-)

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  4 роки тому

      Well this one is plastic... so foam nipping wouldn't be a problem! Everything else... that would be quite custom! :) Approaching the weight limit... might be better off launching it with a bungee! :) Yes... definitely seems like you are NOT getting back into planes.

      Well, as expected Banggood inflicted another huge FAIL on me, after taking my money, they failed to ship and then demanded another $76 for extra shipping ( I had already paid extra required for ems shipping), and considering they do not know how to pack items for shipping and most planes get damaged as a result, I rejected their demand and requested a full refund... time will tell. Hi, OK here is a quick list:
      1. For servos I've been trusting Corona for years now and they have never let me down: goo.gl/JHYynd
      2. For the motor I don't have much experience with 3S motors, but I have done one test years ago with this motor goo.gl/BSAE7b and a 10" prop on the Raptor, and it had some nice efficiency.
      3. For ESC I love HobbyWing stuff, and this one goo.gl/if9aYz works great. It is sold as copter ESC, but works perfectly well on planes, though you will not have a low voltage cutoff, so keep an eye on the battery.
      4. I would also put an external UBEC to power those servos, especially considering the above ESC doesn't have an integrated one: goo.gl/vtEKBj

    Question for every long-range veteran: What kind of radio do you use? I normally fly drones, I'm thinking of getting an X9D plus for long range planes but I'm not entirely sure if I'll need all the switches on it. How many switches do you need? These functions come to mind:
    Throttle, ailerons, rudder and elevator, flaps: 5ch done by the two gimbals and a switch for flaps
    Flight mode, camera switch is another 2ch, both controlled by switches
    Then 2ch controlled by potentiometers for pan and tilt
    Maybe landing lights with another switch if I wanna get real fancy
    Am I missing out on something crucial here? Because I won't need an X9D plus for these functions, a Qx7 will do for this. Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  7 років тому +1

      I think the Q X7 is also 16 channel, if need be so you should be OK with it as well. I use the X9D for long range with a 5db (goo.gl/zuwlrN) antenna mod and an L9R receiver (goo.gl/C7Y525) on the plane. So far I have been out to 22kms (ua-cam.com/video/XY4ZeXYK138/v-deo.html) without loosing signal. On my Clouds I am using all 9 channels of the receiver - ailerons, elevator, throttle rudder, mode change, gimbal pan, gimbal tilt, gimbal modes, video switch. No flaps on that one thankfully! Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to use the L9R receiver.

    • @Chretze
      @Chretze 7 років тому

      Thanks so much for your reply, mate! The QX7 is indeed 16 channel, but it has less buttons and switches than the X9D so I was worried about the convenience it offers. Performance wise in terms of channels and range it should be the same though, but I can't confirm that 100%.
      And your video about the L9R rage test is crazy, I didn't know that was possible on 2.4Ghz! Guess I'll try the L9R before I get an EZUHF!
      PS: I think you would still be able to use the L9R for up to 12 channels, you just need a flight controller that works with SBUS. If I understand it correctly, the receiver takes in up to 12 channels of info coming from the radio, then encodes it digitally and forwards that information through just one of the servo ports. If you're using a flight controller that can read such an SBUS signal (the Vector can do it) it will then split the signal to up to 12 conventional channels again.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  7 років тому +1

      Yes, I know it can move 12 chanels, but I am using a micro APM in the Clouds and it can only receive 8 chanels via CPPM, so I have the receiver connected to it via an SBUS to CPPM converter. I have the 9th channel coming directly from the receiver, the others are passthru the flight controller! The receiver has only 9 PWM outputs... so there is my limit. :)
      As for the range, an LRS system will always give you more range more easily, as it doesn't suffer so much from frees and bushes getting a bit in the way of the line of sight... but so far I am super happy with the performance of the Taranis and L9R and will keep using it.

    • @Chretze
      @Chretze 7 років тому

      I see! If you used a Vector instead of the micro APM it should work, right? If so, that's what I might do!

    • @ArxangelRC

      If the Vector can take SBUS and then do a channel pass thru for some of the input channels, then it should work fine! :)
