- One gay night at Rudolf's Mars discotheque, Lahoma was hostessing a bingo game while RuPaul was getting ready for a show in Mars' downstairs. Nelson was there recording all the action on his video camcorder. In this video, RuPaul does a live costume change on stage for the first time ever.

I spotted my partner Jaime and me in this. The two leather boys. Black jackets w German painted on the back, dancing while Cyndi Lauper played. We LOVED Mars and they put us in Project X for a Mars advertisement. We had such fun! I loved all of those marvelous club people and had the best time in my life for 10 years living in Manhattan! Woo-hoo!!!!

i am so grateful that nelson's work was preserved, for all of us to enjoy. i'm just fascinated, and am devouring each and every video. i'm a massive RuPaul fan, and am loving seeing him in his younger years, when he was first starting out.
I went to the Mars club in August 1989 , I think this may have been the night I met them both, I was with my friend Bill Meyer who I was staying with in town , I cant believe this clip is on here, wow it brings back some memories
That wouldn't be right Nelson Sullivan passed away July 3rd or 4th of 89 he'd have been dead by August

It's so cool hearing Madonna playing in clubs in the 80s. Like her or not she is a true living legend. Don't know that there will ever be another Madonna and Michael.
I wonder if RuPaul ever still sees Lahoma. It would be amazing for them to have an interview together after all this time.

The gay clubs in the mid/late 90s. we used to sneak into them, underage here in Calgary. They had this type of industrial district vibe to them too. I was a baby gay totally drinking & partying in bars like this. We were so young. It was so much more safer back then.

I read the videographer, Nelson died in 1989. He looks fine in this clip, does anyone know what he died off?
He died of a heart attack. No one knows why. He was in great health as far as all records show and he didn't use drugs or drink.

He was so hot and still was, I drove him back to his hotel he was staying at, we kissed and he asked me to fuck I him...I thought it to weird....damn I wish I did now....

LosAngeles.323 yep Ru was born in San Diego. But after his parents divorced when he was 7yrs he moved to Atlanta and lives there throughout his teens.
When you move somewhere at 7 and come of age in a place that you from then on called home with your family then you ARE from that city. Wtf? I moved to my hometown at 5 and spent my entire childhood through college in my home town. I damned well am from that place! When you’re seven you don’t have attachments and memories fade as you grow into who you are over the years in your new home city. He didn’t lie. Jeez.
