You've been on a roll with connections lately! Here's a tip about the yellow/green distinction that I think is true at this point: If they are both synonyms (almost always), the green category will typically be the more grounded, physical one. The yellow will be a bit less tangible, but still obvious. Yesterday for example; green had the mini replicas theme - you can immediately visualize that as a physical concept. Yellow was the putdowns - you imagine those as abstractions Today's I would say followed the rule, green is more physical and yellow is more intangible. If neither are physical whatsoever, the one with adjective synonyms is likely the yellow category.
Not sure about that. Something intangible to me sounds like a harder category than something manifest in the physical world. Maybe not for academics that have studied abstract concepts for years and years (like me and probably you too), but for most people.
@@user-wm3hu7lo1g intangible just in the sense that they aren't physical, like ideas -not intangible meaning hard to comprehend. Yellow will usually be a group of synonyms like that, and the green will be more material synonyms. Sometimes you don't have two noun categories left, but if it's between two like this, I find it works. And they really prefer adjectives in the yellow for some reason
Regarding "lawyer up": while it does mean "get an attorney" I would have said it has defensive connotations, and that you break off normal channels of communication. As in, you lawyer up as a shield against incoming accusations. You might "lawyer up" in an acrimonious divorce when you realize your spouse won't see reason. A company will laywer up in an attempt to avoid having to pay damages. Etc.
Regarding spendthrift: Thrift's etymology is From Middle English thrift, thryfte, þrift, from Old Norse þrift (“thriving condition, prosperity”). so a spendthrift is someone who spends their prosperity (savings)
Found today's Connections easy enough. I actually saw green and yellow right away but also found purple and entered that first. Then I entered green and yellow as I thought they were and they were easily enough the case. Left with light blue I figured that out easily enough as all those occupations have frocks (I didn't say robe, but I'm close enough, right)? Oranje also got the reverse rainbow. I just needed the perfect solve to be happy. Mini Crossword had my name in it (how could I not know that) so I cleared the whole thing in under a minute. I didn't note the exact time.
I can't begin to compete with you, Oranje, and others getting all these RAINBOWS, Art. I was just successful at this game being my goal. In regards to Wordle, I was able to get REACH in three tries: ADIEU, FLAME, REACH. I have been going STIR CRAZY for three days being in my house due to this frigid weather. I plan to venture out of my place tomorrow running various errands. 😎
Re: the mini crossword - you would definitely have gotten everything if you only found DAMP, Art. A creature on a lifeboat with ?IG?R - TIGER would have been easy Processed not raw with ?A?A - DATA at least after entering TIGER Meter and feet with ?O?TS - maybe tricky at first but not after finding TIGER (?OETS, right) So don't say "would never have found..." as if todays puzzle was super-obscure, Art. All you need to do when stuck is reexamine the entries you're not sure about. Remove LAME and the puzzle becomes MUCH easier. Once you really see "wet" doesn't fit LAME and you find DAMP, you would have solved the rest. Of course, when you're in a mindset of "if I don't get it in a minute and a half, I won't ever get it", you're really blocking off your chances once you make a wrong move.
Agree, you don't need to have watched Life of Pi to work out the answer to that clue. What other creature has the structure _IG_R? If he'd gotten tiger, everything would've fallen into place.
Lawyer up and batter up were too American for me. ( I thought they were frying fish until I heard you Art ! ) Thankfully I was already home by then. Is the Japanese Toy Dog called a Chin?
Did anyone else see blue as "they wear things on their head"? Wizard's pointy hat, monk's cowl, judge's wig, boxer's protective headgear.... I'm sure a "chin" is a dog as well but discarded that category after seeing the holes one. Never heard of "lab" meaning a class, I just went for "things in a university" "Lawyer up" is not known at all here. Nor is "batter up" except perhaps for the tiny minority who know American baseball. But still got it because that was the only category left
Just curious how you get lame from "kinda wet". I really didn't understand your response to that clue. And it was creature, not creator. You were rushing and reading it wrong.
You are correct about the meaning of " lawyer up" eg time to get an attorney because of some situation in your life. I struggled with "batter up" as the likely missing fourth one but realised it was probably a baseball term so was green purple blue yellow.
Yes Art, I do stop you ahead of the dreaded KW. The one I didn't know was "batter up". I thought it was to do with cooking. To me pit bulls aren't exactly lovely. In the UK, if you see a guy walking a pit bull you cross to the other side of the street.

Absolutely brilliant observation. I went back to previous Connections and your observation seems to hold true, nearly without exception!
