You were LUCKY not failing Wordle today, Art. Accepting defeat sometimes is a part of life. I was able to get UPPER in three tries: ADIEU, RULER, UPPER. Again, I have my good and bad days in Connections. I can take or leave Strands. I continue to enjoy my Word Hurdle games twice a day with the 6 letters. 😎

Connections I didn't find too hard. I actually found purple first (BIDEN CARTER NIXON REAGAN) and then green was ridiculously easy (picnic accessories, shouldn't that be yellow?!). Got yellow in short order, (meaning outperforming someone else) and the four remaining items felt like something from the horse and buggy era. I could not identify light blue but when you can isolate the other three categories without sweat, you get the perfect solve. I have seen Indiana Jones, loved the movie, seen two of the three, but I didn't make the Connection. The puzzle was average difficulty, rating 3/5 by the Bot. Fair enough. Indiana Jones is mainstream enough (as is Popeye, which we had the other day). 67% solve rate, 25% scored the perfect solve. Connections Companion thought it was a bit harder @ 3.3 but that's reasonable. My guess pattern was 1 in 1704, the 6th rarest, and rarer than the reverse rainbow.

A nice little compromise between Art and Doug, since Doug is an adament hardcore player, could be that in the competiton between you two, it could be a rule that if you take off hard mode it disqualifies you from getting a point that day. That way Doug can continue "playing with honor" and Art is free to choose how he plays with no judgement. Just a suggestion :)

after LEVER there were 17 probable words. QUEER (not a possible word as LEVER rules out 2 E's) would have left you with UPPER or USHER. PURER just left UPPER.

I can't begin to compete with you, Oranje, and others getting all these RAINBOWS, Art. I was just successful at this game being my goal. In regards to Wordle, I was able to get REACH in three tries: ADIEU, FLAME, REACH. I have been going STIR CRAZY for three days being in my house due to this frigid weather. I plan to venture out of my place tomorrow running various errands. 😎
