That took less than 10 minutes. Then we had to listen to the dealer blather on and on about add-ons, even though we told him at least 10 times we were not buying any accessories, warranties or other stuff. Then it took him 45 minutes to put us in touch with the finance manager who kept trying to offer us 12% financing. (My credit score is over 800.) Finally I called my bank and got 4.5% in less than 5 minutes. Then it took them an hour and a half to do the paperwork and call us into the manager's office to sign everything - and we had to listen to another 40-minute sales pitch about warranties - again. What a pain.

I went to a Lexus dealer and after I spent like an hour looking at some suv models, finally I found what I like with exception of the color. So I left the dealer and the salesman is going to call me back when they have the right color. Like 3 days later, car salesman contact me with excitement news that they have the vehicle I wanted and will have it in front of the dealer ready for me. When I showed up it was a different vehicle and the wrong color. I was not happy at all so I left. The next day the supposed car dealer manager called me and ask me why I changed my mind and didn’t buy the car. I just hung up on him. $2,495 protection package, that cost them about $200??? The BS "Director" doesn't elaborate on the protection package because he knows when he explains it, he'll look like a crooked fool trying to screw customers!!!!!
This is a total scam by dealers. I had a dealer literally show me a bottle of wax and can of Scotch Guard. And after being protected, they would give me what’s left for $250 total. 😂 I waxed it and Scotch Guarded the car myself for a lot less.
@dave3657 yes, total scam and shouldn't be allowed, they should have to provide what their actual cost is of each item they are charging customer for. If you pay someone salary but you put “manager” in their title, the salary overtime laws don’t apply to them. You can effectively work them as much as you want without paying overtime as long as it’s a “managerial” position
They always talk about the labor that goes into the protection packages and how much that costs but that doesn’t go to the people installing them. I worked at a dealer and it all goes to the owner.
The only time in my life I ever bought a new car from a dealership was when Toyota was selling their sub-brand Scion and it was a fixed price with no BS. You knew exactly what you were going to be paying. Every other car I've ever bought it's been one where somebody already took the hit from buying it new and dealing with the dealer. Most of the time they just had too many bills to pay and couldn't keep up with the payments so it was very low miles. Good condition. Almost new car a lot less than I would have paid at a dealership and that's the way to buy baby rock and roll🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dealership goal: Let’s waste our customer’s time until they give in. Best thing to do is interrupt them and be direct. If they don’t respond to those instructions walk away and go to a dealership who isn’t playing games.
Watching from the UK. At my age 77 I have bought quite a lot of cars usually brand new and never have I had to deal with sales people like this. The "on the road " price was quickly agreed on and the only dealings then would be the financial people to arrange finance if requested by me. On my last purchase a new Land Rover discovery about 45 mins from the time I walked into the dealership to the time I left. Collected the car about four days later after PDI.
Literally $5k away from making a deal happen and I actually tried to work with them. But they will not work with me whatsoever. Yet they dropped the price a day later.
These dealers are so lazy because of the monopoly they have. They think they don’t even have to sell a $2,500 tint package because they’ve cornered you into having to purchase it to just get the privilege of buying the car.
My first rule: NEVER try to buy a car over the phone. You never get a straight answer. If I'm in the dealership and things start going like in this call, I nod at my wife and say "You about ready?", and stand up. Things happen rapidly, either good or bad, after that.
I’m glad my dealer is great.. just picked up a 2025 Camry XSE AWD, MSRP was 42 and I was able to get it for 36.5 with minimal haggling.. couldn’t have been happier.
What state do you live in? Because here in the West coast almost all dealerships I'm dealing with trying to get the same car as yours are insane. They all want MSRP. Did you get the red leather seats? Do you mind giving me the name of the dealership and the guy you dealt with?
@ I’m over in Maryland, Koons Toyota Westminster. I didn’t add this, but my Camry was a dealer demo with 3000 miles. That added to the price but they have many other 42k Camrys listed at around 38k. They are the only dealer anywhere near me selling under MSRP, and they are selling WELL under MSRP. I got the Ocean Gem with the black roof so it came with the black interior.
Have to give it to Tommy, he get it done fairly fast. My last negotiation took a month. It all came down to trade value, started at 19K, finally got 22.8K to close the deal.
I don't have time for nonsense from salesmen. I pay an auto broker $500 to get me the exact vehicle I want, and they're usually able to get a price that is $3,000 to $5,000 below what I could get. So in the end, I save money and avoid a lot of hassles.
I went to a dealership almost msde a deal on a 2016 mustang it was pretty nice. Left came back with family. A family memeber noticed a plastic piece missing on the mirror and a issue with the radio. Which when i first got there was never mentioned. We still thought it was decent enough and price was fair. So we agreed to come back the next day to finalize the deal. Mind you it was late in the day already evening. As we were leaving the sales person said, oh there's a refundable 100 dollar deposit. Even a small amount rubbed me the wrong way, said no thanks well take our chance. Never went back.
Why does every car dealer think they know so much more than you? If you want to see the biggest false egos in the world just walk into a dealership holy fuck.
You have no idea. I got in a 20min dick swinging contested with one manager. "Everything is priced aggressively" oh really sir? Why is everything sitting for weeks on weeks. Also "the dude on the phone" is a nice try but it's a lie. Also i loved how manager tried to make 30 min drive a huge point. "You wouldn't have drove out here if you didnt think was a good deal." Sir i dont buy a car/truck unseen and driven.
My number one new car buying rule is to have the car picked out before going to the dealer and 20 minutes before closing. Tell them you are ready to buy tonight if the deal is fair. One round of price back & fourth and off to finance to sign the papers. Now its 10 minutes after closing time on the last day of the week and the finance person wish to go home so the option B.S. games stop with one NO just the car. You need to know the market price for the car loan and home your ground on the loan rate & any rebates. Out the door with the new Honda in less than 45 minutes. Of course you payoff the car once you pay the first payment. FYI - If the dealer does not like you leading the sale & your price offer then just leave. One time we got hung up over $500 on a $40K car and the salesman told me that they can not go the extra $500 and he just sale the car to someone else. I had purchased 4 cars from this sales person across two dealers over the past 10 years. I just got up walked out the front door and got in my old car (never give them your keys). Then the cell phone rang telling me I have a deal.
I just saw your video on the discounts to expect for Toyota vehicles, I enjoyed it, thank you, so what type of discounts to expect on Subaru models have you experienced
i had to call a dealerships finance manager a lizard after he tried to get me otd for twice the monthly price i agreed to online. next closest dealership did the deal in a heartbeat
I had an experience sort of like this once, terrible waste of my time, they just wear you down, i ended up taking back the deposit check and ripping it up
Lmao this is the reason why I think we are going Tesla, give me the fucking numbers if I like them I buy it. No BS, no extra addons, not hassling over 500$
Tomi I was just curious what are the websites you use to find cars across the entire country and see how long a car has been sitting on the lot and stuff like that?
Once dealer packages are installed you can't uninstall right? Only port installed you cant go back? Is there an easy way to find out which packages are negotiable and not?
I am pretty sure dealer installed packages can be uninstalled and/or negotiated. Such as mudflaps could technically be a dealer installed package- and removed. However, I do not believe paint protection will be considered "removed" by a dealer. But you can (and should) definitely negotiate dealer installed add ons. Personally, I would never pay $2,900.00 for Paint Protection. I would try to get that down to nothing (or max pay $150 at the most) or leave it on; and reduce that same amount- on the price of the car. Bear in mind that different locations will negotiate differently. A low supply/high demand vehicle will be much harder to negotiate down/ off than a dealership or model that they are trying to move quickly/sell. Again, just my two cents.
I bought a new Honda 6 years ago and went through this BS. Now I want to give it to my daughter and get a new car. I love the Honda and would consider another, but I don’t want to go through this stress again. I will be getting a Tesla this time.
About 10 years ago I was in the market for a new car so I went to two local Honda dealerships. I was polite, but firm in my dealings with them. At both dealerships, the process about ended up in fist fights. Both the sales managers got extremely aggressive and verbally berated me in the middle of the dealerships. It was all because I wouldn’t let them screw me over with add-ons, and other Mickey Mouse charges.
What is even the point of a salesman these days??? They can’t even make a single decision about selling a car! Pathetic, they are a waste of space and pay.
That's pathetic, what a joke. This is exactly what is wrong with most legacy dealership's. Just like in person he tried to frustrate you out so you would cave and buy at full price. Ask these guys what the hell you get for a documentation fee? Its a complete cash grab.
From my experience, Toyota dealers are the worst to deal with. The issue is the Grand Highlander is in such high demand and the supply is relatively low it is an issue.
Tell Dealership #1 to stick the tuna can where the sun doesn't shine. These clowns think they're doing you a favor by allowing you to buy a car from them. I'm surprised they're still in business with a $2500 BS add on and a $595 Doc Fee which is pure profit.
I think the guy just misunderstood because of what the first person told him. I think the first girl told him you wanted to how the whole process works and so he was trying to teach you. Lol.

The dealership is saying they don’t want to sell the car under msrp and protection package. That’s it. No mystery.
The younger guy was sounding desperate to sell that grand highlander.
Love every video and priceless inside you give us , what will be a realistic discount on a new Ram Rebel, basic not fancy equipment group.
I don't have time for nonsense from salesmen. I pay an auto broker $500 to get me the exact vehicle I want, and they're usually able to get a price that is $3,000 to $5,000 below what I could get. So in the end, I save money and avoid a lot of hassles.
Wrong. That broker did not get a deal you could not get on your own. And you paid him or her to do it.
They do know more than you. They know what they paid for the vehicle.
Toyota dealerships are routinely trying to slip their worthless "Protection Package" in on every deal. I will never pay for that crap.
This is a perfect example of how to NOT buy a car!
Aren't all the Arizona dealers owned by 3 groups, so there is very little reason why they will negotiate and they all get their $2495 jack up?
Toyota is a joke. Hate dealing with them.
This is the unfortunate truth of this industry. It’s a haggle all the way to the end. The good dealers are the exception.
I had an experience sort of like this once, terrible waste of my time, they just wear you down, i ended up taking back the deposit check and ripping it up
Who came up with this process and thought it was a good idea? lol
Someone who cares more about profits than people
Forcing customers to buy ceramic coating and tints...wtaf is this dealership?
New cars are for chumps. Go buy a beater all craigslist, drive it until it breaks, leave it on the side of the road. Rinse and repeat
I've done this all my life. And that's why I'm a retired high school teacher and millionaire.
Just useful sites in general
I drove 40 miles to a dealer with no addendum or add ons. I had to travel for it.
Not sure if I would want to deal with this dealership
Essentially, if it's taxable you can negotiate it.
@@jasonfriedman4248dealers don’t install real paint protection. It’s another spray on and rinse off snake oil.
Do you help customers shop for EV's? Tesla, Rivian, etc, etc.
What is even the point of a salesman these days??? They can’t even make a single decision about selling a car! Pathetic, they are a waste of space and pay.
Who knew selling a car was so complex. It must take that guy an hour to buy toilet paper.
That's pathetic, what a joke. This is exactly what is wrong with most legacy dealership's. Just like in person he tried to frustrate you out so you would cave and buy at full price. Ask these guys what the hell you get for a documentation fee? Its a complete cash grab.
Toyota might have some of the worst people there.
Can you help me buy mustang dark horse, the mark ups are insane😢
Let it rot! Find another dealership.
Funny! I don't even go to a dealer anymore...
From my experience, Toyota dealers are the worst to deal with. The issue is the Grand Highlander is in such high demand and the supply is relatively low it is an issue.
I HOPE YOU BECOME THE SOLUTION TO DEALERSHIPS-YOU ARE BECOMING THE UBER/AIRBNB DISRUPTOR - SO TIRED OF THEIR GAMES!!!
Tell Dealership #1 to stick the tuna can where the sun doesn't shine. These clowns think they're doing you a favor by allowing you to buy a car from them. I'm surprised they're still in business with a $2500 BS add on and a $595 Doc Fee which is pure profit.
I'm waiting for the AOL dial up
Guy really wanted to hear himself talk..didnt want to ask investigative questions
Sounds like Berge Toyota
Right Toyota - Scottsdale?
I love the role based shell game with these pricks.
oh god.. makes me never want to go to a dealership again. And the next car I want is a Toyota!
AZ dealerships are the absolute worst in the country. It’s impossible to score a deal.
Toyota is so unlikeable
I think the guy just misunderstood because of what the first person told him. I think the first girl told him you wanted to how the whole process works and so he was trying to teach you. Lol.
Pinnacle Nissan out of Flagstaff AZ is the worst.
So you can't buy a new car from this dealership franchise unless you pay for a $2500 protection package? LOL. What a joke!
