1:02:47 Not a foul at all, the cue ball and object ball were touching so you can hit right through it. It's amazing to me how many don't understand that rule, especially someone commenting on the game at such a high level
In 2002 this was a big controversy in that you can’t hit somthing you are frozen too you can only push it. Basic physics. In about the same time BCA said if it is frozen it’s not a foul and that’s the rule that has been around for so long but it was not in the BCA book in 2002.
You can hit through them but not the way he did it, he would have needed to hit it through the middle or on top with a level even stroke. The way he hit it was a push shot. You can see how it reacted, it pushed though the ball forward then slowed down due to the backspin, no way it can do that unless the tip pushed the ball forward.
As a spectator and fan, it’s my intention to give Earl Strickland a moment of “very kind thanks” for playing quickly in every match. The future will fall kindly on Earl, like a straight shot on the nine.
When Earl was on he was pretty unbeatable. His cue ball control is pretty amazing. (It’s funny because I think Corey Deuel looks like the guy on “Beverly Hills 90210.”)
I seem to remember a video of Earl playing Corey in the late 1990's. It may have been in Milwaukee. It was definitely in a bar/pool room. Earl quit the match because Corey was soft breaking. Does anyone know if the video still exists? I have not been able to find it again.
@1:39:48 why did the tournament director approach Corey during the last game? A little later goes and talks to the tournament director, and the tournament director goes and talks to Earl. There was no need for that. I wouldn't be surprised if this was rigged to win on some bets that were placed. In the game Corey made an unusually bad choice and misses. And he left Earl an easy shot.
Scott Smith usually likes to give respect to the players when it goes hill hill by announcing it to the crowd. (Looked like he had a mic in his hand) and was possibly asking both players if they wanted him to announce to the crowd that it was hill hill. Earls reaction to being approached by Scott seemed relatively annoyed which led to Scott walking away minus an announcement. I’ve seen him do this in a lot of important matches on here, but this is just an assumption
Billy was wrong about the shot at 1:02:40 being a push foul because the balls are frozen, so a double hit doesn't occur the way Corey hits it. If there was even the slightest gap between the balls it would have been a foul, but as it is, Scott Smith was right not to call it.

Not exactly. I turned up volume. Earl said at 1:14:32, "I missed, you cheated." It was a double hit by Deuel. If the ref can't call it, the player should man-up himself, regardless of the stage of the tournament.
1:02:47 I have to say billy is wrong by saying that’s a foul. The way Corey strikes the ball is in a downward stroke. By hitting it in that angle he’s not “pushing” the cue hitting the object ball twice. That’s basically what that rule is hitting or pushing the object ball through using the cue ball.
FYI pool lovers: The announcer who stated "11 racks in a row at CJ Wiley's disbanded Tour was wrong. The offer was $1 mill for 10, not 11. It was a bank on the 7 ball. Anyway, it was not a foul. The reason it wasn't a foul is because they were frozen together. When they're frozen together the two balls effectively act as one single ball. When you strike the first ball, BOTH of the two balls move away from the cue tip at the same time as if they are one and the first ball never comes back in contact with the cue tip.
