Love the commentary... this match had nuggets of comedy gold.
very good commentators
"11 balls, a 10 foot table, and shane van Boening are all that stand between him and victory" you are so right
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO.............Shane Van Boening & Earl Strickland ARE TWO OF MY FAVORITE POOL PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Earl does have a excuse for everything, but I love his passion for the sport. Both of these guys are legendary
Because he's no Reyes or Mosconi, mostly because of his attitude.
At that level, it's a mental game.
@Corbyn Stewart are you serious here? Dudes trapped his fingers, putr on an elbow brace, and even added weights to his wrist in a effort to maintain his form.
He's a show of his further self, and his mental instability is annoying the effects.
Do you debt that, at the top levels.
I'm from SC, where she if the works best are from, and where many live today
But thanks for your opinions.
@Corbyn Stewart if I'm hating, it's on your ignorance, and or attempt to turn my statement into one of emotion, rather than logic or reason. And my hate would be Justin's.
Move along now, thanks
@Corbyn Stewart thanks for your opinion.
For any watching this game, You will find it extremely entertaining two very good ballplayers battling out
Definitely one of the 10 best game I've ever watched in my 73 years! Despite the more than half dozen easy shots missed!
This was incredible to see live for sure thanks for the good comment. - Alvin -
Easy shots from where we are watching ! But that’s a 10 foot super tight diamond , these are the top 2 nine ball players ever both have 5 us opens a piece nobody else even close to them accolades
@@teddyhaynes9876 correct, not even Efren "the magcian". SVB is the real goat. People are just mesmerized by Efren and I think most people who comment are Filipino, so they are happy for their countrymen. But title for title, win for win SVB is superior to Efren. Efren could only win 1 US Open in fact, and he tried but always got defeated.
This is one of the best games I've ever seen.
9:47 is my favorite part
Lol 😂😅
great match, what a great couple of legendary greats of the game....so honored to be able to just watch them play and learn and be amazed
I enjoyed watching this match. Not as much as the Efren vs Earl at Steinway billiards but any 10 foot table with 2 legends going at it is always a great match to watch. Thanks pov pool for uploading these awesome matches!
You are very welcome ....my friend! -Alvin -
personally, this is my favorite match ever. this is my 7th or 8th time watching honestly. I know Shane missed two handfuls of balls but its just a match that makes me laugh and the commentating is STELLAR (coming from the critic that won't watch a match with "never wrong" Larry Ross or that Bobby guy that does a lot of 8 ball matches who blatantly insulted the great Jim Rempe) Plus I'm very literally Earl's biggest fan and to see him in his favorite environment is just so thrilling and entertaining to watch. that big swing he nailed at the beginning? priceless. PS earl is SO right on the rules here being garbage. with this much luck you may as well call it poker. CALL shot, CALL safe. if I were earl and lost after all those bad rolls I'd Sue for the money I was "robbed" of. match is simply stellar.
Matthew Hoog you still watching this match? Hahahaa
Matthew Hoog yea earl played great but anyone who watched the match could see shane gave 3-4 games away literally . shanes huge break is such a advantage on this table... his break is.nasty
i enjoyed aliens, but not as much as ET :(
they make it look so easy and effortless at times. amazing players!
These commentators have a man crush on earl 100%
Me too. 😬 He’s definitely got character! ✌️
Everyone has a crush rightfully so 😬
Same
Who doesn’t 😆 what a character. Slightly out of line at times sure, but that’s the trade off for such entertainment
Nerds.
Having professional pool matches on 10 foot tables makes things more interesting. Similar in concept of having golf pros teeing off from the more distant black tees. The bar needs to be raised for players who have reached such an incredibly high level of skill.
The word you’re looking for is snooker ...
With much more space to navigate, I'm not convinced it makes the game harder. Sure, potting may end up slightly more difficult, but with these pockets it's hardly any difference.
@@Calixxtus correct. 10 ft table brings it closer to snooker dimensions albeit pockets still wider than snooker. I wish all pool games were on 10 ft tables.
We need a projector above the table a have balls placed in the same spots for each player. To see if they can get out. Make it harder as you go.
Sure snooker has smaller pockets but don’t forget the smaller balls so it equals out the same. Different games man , snooker is to boring for me ! Pool is much much better and flashier .
Earl with hustle(mouth) and Shane has natural anti hustle ability(ear). Earl won. Great match on a real venue applaud 👏 USA pool...two champions. I enjoyed this. Would love to see Earl commentate this retro.
4 balls on the break, twice in a raw, on a 10ft table? Just wow ! No wonder that Shane is ranked number1.
medium rare
1:54:28 that was one of the most symmetrical breaks i've seen in my life...
good observation. those 4 balls were like mirrors
good observation. those balls were like mirrors
good observation. those balls were like mirrors
Wow, great catch. Unbelievable break he's got.
Edward Cao whats more impressive is its done without a magic rack.
What an entertaining two hours! I own an Earl stricken stick, and after watching him play this, I have a new profound admiration for him and, my stick!
36:15 the shot was so devastating they had to edit it out xD
Earl is what we call a pro. I love watching him play bc he is such a funny character on his comments knowing he's going to win but saying he could have won. Shane is awesome player also. But he knew he messed up when he missed the spot bc with pro you won't ever win unless they make a 1 in a million mistake. Great game guys
Speak for yourself...
Earl always puts on a show! Haha. Love it!
Earl's become an elder statesman and I used to watch Shane shoot when he was a kid in Rapid City, South Dakota. When they made Earl, they broke the mold; I start laughing when Earl starts talking to himself. Shane's got the cue ball on a string. When Shane doesn't want to hear Earl's BS, he just turns down his hearing aides. LOL
I know many pool players who are passionate like Earl and talk to themself. But what makes that funny to you?
PS Earl and SVB are the only people to win 5 US Opens, not even Efren won more than 1. It would seem talking to yourself can make you a grandmaster legend of pool, as you rationalize in your intelligent mind what went wrong with the shot or with your own playing.
@@godjhaka7376 LOL - You're funny. "The Pearl" is a chuckle because he takes it all so seriously and personally. Hell yes, he's good. You have to be at that level; but there's a difference between taking the game seriously and taking it 'too seriously'. I love Earl but he takes it to the point that he's got a few screws loose. Now, let's talk about your game, sweetcheeks........
The fact that Shane stayed on the table, even after the match practicing tells me the type of person he is! I admire him more for seeing this.
what can you say they're both great they made some fabulous shocks their position play is phenomenal
I've been watching this old clip of Shane and Earl racing to 100.
At one point in the match, Earl said, "Everybody here is cheering for him.
I don't even know why I'm here."
😆
I’ve been watching it this week, then tonight, poof it’s gone! No history, the channel’s gone wtf?
Shane loses but gets right back to work. Crazy impressive work ethic
zack 801 shane beat himself . watch the match . shane literally gave 4 or 5 racks away
There is something awkward about Shane. Almost like he has no social skills but he has this impulsiveness to keep shooting pool.
@@RichardsWorld he's deaf
bob cat he‘s not
@@mitchtheronin1469 he's 97% deaf so yeah
excellent match. great competitors. really good commentators. A+
What a treat! This video popped up on my computer at about 16:00 on Sunday 6/11/2023. It's enjoyable watching these two elite players compete about 10 years ago, but listening to the announcers speaking repeatedly about "Pots & Pans" is extremely entertaining and nostalgic. For the benefit of anyone who might care, Bernard Rogoff, aka "Bunny Rogoff" was an old school pool hustler from Pittsburgh, PA who had several pseudonyms or aliases and one of them was "Pots & Pans". Bunny's specialty was bar tables and he would often represent himself as a drunken truck driver or door-to-door salesman of pots & pans. He was extremely likable and entertaining. He hustled mostly during the 60's and early 70's. During his later years, he developed a night club comedy act and performed mostly in the casinos of Reno and Las Vegas. He was loved and appreciated by many old school players and hustlers. I know that Billy Incardona was about as close to him as anyone. I believe he died sometime around 2013; R.I.P. Bunny.
Thank you for the match. Earl makes any size table look easy
Great commentary , great match!
1:22:17
" kill the person with the cell phone " lol
Imagine if Earl had been the one shooting haha
I'm 47 and have not played since before covid. I played about 23 years and then nothing but watching Earl and Efren play strong as they get older makes me feel good about getting back to it myself. I wish when I got back to it I played like they do.
I love it because I've banged my head against the wall just like Earl. I have been known to hate life for a few racks then start getting out eventually.
I am 45, I've played my entire life but I also quit playing when covid started.
February 20th 2020.
I plated in a big tournament.
Got 7th place.
Dennis Orcollo played in that same tournament and he got 10th.
I was pretty proud of it.
I hadn't played much around that time.
But soon as that covid bs started, they closed the pool halls.
I gave up.
Went and got my cdl license and began driving a truck.
I don't even know where my sticks are.
Who knows when or if Ill ever play again.
I am very happy to see the world has moved on from that crock of crap.
So take your mask off and go play. Geez. Virtual signal much?
The legends look so human when they're struggling with long delicate shots on this super sized 10 foot table.
btw this is my favorite match of all time...so many great shots and all of the Earl you could ever ask for. God Bless Pool.
NOT TO MENTION: This is the best commentary I've heard so far. Not Too much talking and information that is relevant to the match
Matt Hoog and the drinking game idea XD you guys crack me up
Amazing upload. Go Earl !!!
Earl's got a whole damn tree in that cue.
best commentary ever, "Earl just wants to grind the game into a million pieces" ROFL"Earl doesnt just want to play the game, He wants to disintegrate it!" I DIED, that is so true, that fire in the pit of Earl's stomach makes him one of a kind, there is nobody that plays like he does!
He really plays lights out when he's hyper focused and on.. when he was off in his prime he was kind of a crybaby sore loser but he's owned up to his past emotions and that's just who he is. He's a firey personality
Something happened to earl for real. I just binged watched so much of his games. 1991 when he was playing mike segal, he was so focused and stayed to himself completely. Slowly but surely he started looking into the crowd. Like he's hearing something or someone. I think there is so mental thing going on. But its gotten worse with age.
Yeah. Not sure what it was but there’s definitely a difference.
@Fuzzy Butkus there's a difference between having the same intensity and drive as you did when you were younger and just being straight up bat shit crazy
@@wombra8314 its called developing a mental disorder.
Earl is a troubled genius.. I didn’t know Earl before 1998, but I think you nailed down the timing pretty well.. I don’t know Earl well, he’s friends with my brother.. I’ll say this for him, he’s always been a nice guy when we were hanging out.. Fun to practice with.. Play golf.. Never an issue, even though his quirkiness always shows through.. lol..
Thank you.
Do you have the Pagulayan vs Appleton match?
5:56 still one of 😮the best draw shots I've ever seen. Also a great postional shot and one of the most viewed draw shots on UA-cam
Guys like Earle and Shane are what makes pool, pool greatest game in the world and these are two of the greats. When the color is gone the game will be gone.
The bigger the table the harder this game gets.. now I've always had a knack for pool... always!!! But I'm a pub , party player.. but I keep the table the entire night when I play here in Norway.. Olav the king of pub pool
29:50 "hit the share button to invite your friends from facebook or twitter.,,.,,it doesn't disturb the player" 🤔😂😂😂😂
Love watching Earl play
Awesome match. Must watch for aspiring pool players.
love how earl stops shane at the begining and says: let's dance!
The pearl,my friend...
My favorite player of all time..
even though I can't stand Earl's attitude his play is great and this match was one of the best performances I have seen of Earl in a while! Shane was also great as usual.
Talmadge Fisher shane actually played bad imo. I seen 3 racks shane gift wrapped for earl. But earl is a beast imo he has the best cue ball control of anybody
I hate hearing him so down on himself.
2 of the greatest
Earl is the biggest shark the game has ever known. One of the best players ever yes definitely but one of the worst sportsmen pool has had. I respect Earl's game and the knowledge he has just not the man himself.
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Earl is a really nice guy away from the table, so not liking the man himself is just plain ignorant.
@@Col_MULLY I should have clarified the man at the table. His attitude and antics when playing a match are to me unethical. I know some would say that's just how he gets in other players head but to me anyone stooping to those kinds of shaking antics are unethical. Especially when they have the talent and ability that Earl does. My comment was not intended to imply Earl is not a nice guy away from the table by any means.
1:10:10 “You deserve all the money, don’t you?” - Earl the Pearl 🤣😂
Earl is so good and always funny to hear his banter.
thank you !
Earl is great and hands down my favorite player the man loves the game and when hes on theres no stopping him
I love this game ❤️💙
great match.
21:15 makes me so sad. Great effort, I’ve got so much respect for this wonderful game haha
what is 21: 15
Armando Lauder i was wondering the same! 😂😂🤔🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😂
this comment makes me feel sad, reverent, LOL, and mega confused :(
Okay I think I timestamped something wrong because I don't even know AHAHAHA sorry guys XD
FH73 😂😂👍 cheers
When Earl says, "don't worry I can't get out" was hilarious!! 2:26:50
The hilarity of someone who is often hard to ignore with their presence and aggressive play going against someone who can actually tune the whole room out if he wants.
Many years ago I saw Don Rickles play a small club. The manager was a pal of mine and he warned me, "Do *not* make eye contact with Rickles; he will roast you."
I'm thinking the same goes for Strickland when he's having a typical bad day.
was that jeremy jones in the white shirt playing on the next table over??
Y’all need to calm down on earl. He’s extremely funny when he gets mad. It’s 2 commentary’s in one.
Kody Adamss 2 commentaries in one 😂😂😂👍 original earl joke cheers
SAME with mika 😂😂😂😂😂
what do they hit above before every rack?
Good job earl enjoyed your commentary
Ok Earl talk it up. Thanks for telling us " this is the hardest table in the world". Ever see those tables in China with rounded pockets similar to snooker pockets.
Or russian billiards tables. Pockets are like 1cm bigger than the balls
+righturnonly chinese 8 ball. Theyre 9 foot snooker tables and american sized balls. If you've ever played on a true snooker table you know how hard that would be. Also, just regular snooker tables are still 10x harder than 10 foot diamond tables. But still bigger tables are the only way american pool can progress to anything close to what it used to be
chinese pool table are really hard, in fact you don't play 10-ball on these tables, it would be impossible to run out. They are good for 8-ball.
John Hofer snooker balls are also smaller. So of course the pockets are smaller
And yes Chinese tables are tough
I'm going to buy shafts from Viking just because they sponsored this match! :)
any chance of getting the away broadcast uploaded? is that earl's patsy commentating?
Great match. Bad rolls for Earl, but kept his emotions in check. Bad misses for SVB, also kept his emotions in check, when it might have been a cue-breaking situation. Kudos to two great champions. Kudos to Earl for bringing home the win from a couple of games down. He recognized that SVB had 'given' the match to him due to misses by SVB late in the match. SVB, friends with Earl, probably was heartsick at least momentarily for losing when he had the hill and two games to win.
Breaking a cue isjust a sign of emotional immaturity.
anyone knows what kind of glove does shane use?
10 foot and 4 1/4 pockets... that's what I call a "death-table"! :-)
+AngrierGorilla I think they're 4.5 still tough though
Washed??? No chance.
I can't wait for some more crazy snipes ❤
Earl Strickland in between racks be like "imma sing you a song son!"
great players, great match
best commentary ever
EARL TAUGHT SHANE EVERYTHING HE KNEW. EARL LIKED SHANE AS A STUDENT, AS WELL AS THE ONLY TEAM MATE ON THE EARLY MOSCONI CUP WHERE EARL AND SHANE PLAYED TOGETHER, FOR THE MOSCONI CUP
10-ft (oversized): 112″ (284.5 cm) x 56″ (142.2 cm)
9-ft (standard regulation size table): 100″ (254 cm) x 50″ (127 cm)
At 28:26 looks like the table has a slight tilt. The cue ball passes the 2 ball then tucks in behind it.
PLEASE HELP: How do you hit the "big swing" shot Earl makes just after 5:52 ?? Do you hit half ball with a hard draw? Is it a lot to do with the felt?? Thanks!!!
Matt Hoog In this case it is a lot of low left. Having good felt is a big factor when doing any sort of spin shot in pool. I have tried this shot before on a table both a table with good and bad felt, and while I only managed to draw it out to the rail and spin it to the middle of the table, I must say that the good felt made it a whole lot easier.
love watching Earl cry about everything.
Very entertaining! Announcers were phenominal! Earl and his crying ways didnt deserve to win but i was rooting for him as he put so much pressure on himself.
I have an 8 foot table with. 4 1/8 " pockets so i bet these tables are tough!
It was listed on ebay several months ago actually.
*EARL REALLY AGED IN 11 YEARS. LOOKS 25 YEARS YOUNGER HERE*
Didn't realize this was 11 years old.
Love seeing SVB play with closed and open bridges. Compared to how he plays today, seems he was in transition. Nowadays he shoots slower and more calculated than what we see in this video.
Yes, and now when he gets down on the ball he doesnt take long practice strokes bqck and forth. He goes back and forth with really small half inch strokes really fast just for a second or two and then stops and lines up the ball. Then a really nice slow back stroke and then through the cue ball. Its so deliberate and smooth. Ive been woeking on my stroke. I didnt realize how bad it was until i watched it on video. So im working to have a much smoother stroke. Its hard to break a habit youve been in for a long time.
Beautiful table
How long is earl's cue? How much does it weigh? And who made it?
Shane is such a class act. Earl is such an act.
that first run out from earl..was much much harder than it looked..earl made 3 great shots..to do it...
whats the biggest pool table?
I love the way Earl sets his chalk down
6:00 Shot was absolutely amazing
Nice vid keep up the amazing work
Spoilers
Van lost noooooo
Were jump shots permitted?
Loveing it.
That was an amazing combo
love it
what an outstanding performance by Earl
Earl reminds me of Kobe Bryant. He is a very prolific guy and has fans who hate him and those who love him. He takes pool very seriously just like Kobe takes basketball seriously. They both have all titles in the world and are living legends. I will always respect them both for their dedication.
this didnt age well
5:50 swing it baby! awesome shot
2 of the greatest.shane had it though
is alvin still working with insidepool
*Earl makes easy straight in shot
Commentators: “Oof, wow. Earl is out of this world.”
*SVB runs out a rack
Commentators: “They sure laid up easy for him, road map.”
