Do you put the head in after you pull hair and flesh off? What do you have in the bucket? Just water? I have a small side job doing this. Doing about 50 per year for two years now. All boil and pic, scrape.
Yes I remove all the hair the flesh as much meat as you can remove eyeballs remove lower jaw and clean out what you can before putting it in the water you can also add a little bit of Red X septic cleaner to it will help remove stuff faster
How do you do fawns or button bucks. Ive tried a couple and they juat fall apart. I feel bad for those first time hunter's that have taken them because i have had to turn them away
I only leave them in the tank a minimal amount of time, just long enough for them to be done. Check them often and I usually don’t do any kind of degreasing on them. I’ve done a few fawns that the skull would fit in the palm of your hand this way. I always give my customers a warning that there is a possibility they won’t make it through the process.
After whitening the smell is usually gone from the bone and any smell usually comes from the horns. To avoid this you can use Lysol or fabuloso and a scrub brush to clean the horns. I would do it before you whiten.
I just started macerating! Hopefully I dont screw it up! I put 2 150 watt bulbs in a tank with 8 heads I how long do you think it will take? And is that okay?
I’ve only boiled but thinking about macerating a couple hog heads that I have. My question is have you experienced the teeth splitting after a couple years with this process or is that just an effect from boiling?
Any ideas on how to get rid of antler odor? I usually boil my skulls, tried maceration for the first time on our 3 skulls. They came out awesome, super clean. Only problem is the antlers still stink like the putrid water. I whiten my skulls like y'all do, they don't smell just the antlers still smell like the maceration water. I've tried simmering them in dawn and water, spraying Nature's Miracle odor remover on antlers, soaking the whole thing in water, dawn and baking soda, Lysol, I'm out of ideas.
@@unit3edkarnage I got rid of the stink! Yay! lol I had two people tell me to put them outside and let them air out. That's what I did, left them outside for almost two weeks maybe and the stinky smell is gone! I've macerated another skull since then and no problem with smelly antler issues.
Warmer weather does help the process because you aren't working against cooler air. How long depends on the animals you are macerating. We have done so many we can now just tell by the water and smell when the process is done.
First full deer season with a small business. I’m macerating about half way until it starts to show bone on top of the head and the smell is getting pretty funky then give it a quick simmer in dish soap and oxyclean and power wash. I’m in Texas too and have learned a ton from your channel. Think I’m up to around 40 heads this year
I’ve been having issues with the end of the nasal cavity ( on the bottom of the skull close to where the brain areas is) becoming extremely thin and fragile when using an aquarium heater. Is anyone else having this issue? Heating at around 90 degrees.

I would definitely macerate it and be very careful. It will be very fragile!

It can cause random discoloration but we easily fix it with stain.

I am getting ready to do 13 rabbit heads. do you remove the skin before you put them in the maceration tank?
We recommend that. Just because it is less that has to break down.
Do you think it’s quicker to use the freezer with the lamp. or
a bucket with a fish tank heater? Or the same?
We have tried both, and honestly this process is was more effective. The fish tank heater didn't do the job as fast as this.

No, the do have a smell to them after but never had mold or mildew issues.

Yes, we skin the head and remove as much of the meat as possible. All that is in the buckets is water.

I do not use beetles or a degreasing tank anymore. I have a few videos where I discuss the different methods and how I do things now.

That's a lot of heat! It won't take long.

I fiberglassed the inside of mine the rust is a thing of the past

Yes that is a very thin area of bone just be careful not to break it🤷🏼♂️
