It was probably the start of their public problems with the gay marriage and Ivf comments happened. But I remember in the 90’s, Naomi Campbell mentioned she wasn’t allowed or hired to walk for Dolce and Gabanna because they didn’t want a black model. It was only Linda and Christy who lobbied for her and protested against them.
"I got to Milan and there were many designers in the 80s and 90s that hadn't used black models or models of color and when my two friends (Linda and Christy) were picked for a job, we will speak between each other 'what jobs are you doing?' and i'll say 'I'm not doing that one' and they'll be like 'why? you should be doing it, if we're doing it, you should too' So they would go to the designers and say 'you don't have her? If you don't have he, you don't have us" - Naomi Campbell for Fortune Magazine.
Hopefully their brand is ceased to exist after they pass on. They even admitted they wouldn't want a "Japanese" designer, designing their brand anymore after they die.
You forgot the fact that they were also the ones to refuse Naomi Campbell on their runway in the 80s. You can add racism to their problematic history list. Edit: For the people that didn't know, this took place during a time wherein racial discrimination was still even more prevalent than it is today. What makes this case stand out though is the fact that Naomi Campbell was already a well respected model at the time ( which adds to the oddness of them declining her ) and that it was only when her fellow supermodel friends and tirinity members, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, stood up for her telling D&G that they wouldn't get them if they didn't hire Naomi, that D&G ended up using her. I want to clarify something about the sandals. In Italian (and Spanish) those types of sandals are literally called "slave sandals" and that's how everybody knows them in Italy, and many other countries. I'm sorry, but a whole country (or countries) is not going to change its culture just because it's offensive to American centered sensibilities. Let’s not forget their racist ad campaign they released last year in China where they blatantly made fun of how Asians eat and insulted the way Chinese people spoke mandarin.

I'm Italian and i totally agree with everything you've said about them, but I in Italy the sandal are also called "alla schiava", I think is for this reason they had called their sandal "slave shoe". Sorry for my English🥲
You might be interested in their recent actions in China which prompted a large boycott, not just from consumers, literally the big Chinese e commerce companies have taken their products off the shelf. And D&G did a grovelling apology where they seem to stare at a teleprompter.
They even got restaurant/bar in Belgrade, Serbia closed because it was called 'Dolce and Kafana' (Kafana' being kind of local bisto/restaurant type of thing), just because of the name, even tho they cannot really do it, since it is not the same type of industry, and also, the owner is literally called Dolce (Dolče), sooo...
10-12 years ago Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, DSquared2, Etro, Lanvin, Dior, Burberry, Chanel, Paul Smith and Gucci were some of the Top selling brands. Gucci, Chanel and Dior are the only ones of these brands that are still still selling well today. 10 years from now it will be a whole new set of designers that are top sellers. D&G needs to retire and the brand needs to hire new creative directors. The brand has not been selling well(at all) the last 5 years. But.. all throughout the 1990s and a better part of the 2000s Dolce and Gabbana was extremely popular amongs the Glamazon crowd in L.A. and New York, I know I lived that Era.
Hi longtime listener first time caller; def interested in this as a series. Next ones to consider - Galliano (antisemitism), Weber and Testino (sexual harrasment/abuse accusations), retail that still supports Trump (New Balance, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Saks), Brands seen on Melania (although this one is tricky since she has anonymous personal shoppers according to W). Looove the blouse.
Spacetruckgender to some people it is *rolls eyes* because they believe he’s anti-Semitic (his step-son is Jewish and Trump in the same vein as his political predecessors is in bed with Israel) and believe he’s a sexual predator (even though the allegations brought against him were dropped/one of the accusations came from someone who investigators have found does not exist/ and the “Grab them by the pussy” comment was of course quote mined since he prefaced it with they let you do it and how he was trying to court a woman to date him but it failed and he backed off)...it’s all bullshit to be honest

true no one buys a phone and thinks "I support child abuse and labour in foreign countries" And smiles.
PROBLEMATIC is the new counter-culture. PROBLEMATIC is the new punk rock.
I was about to say that shirt is problematic but then it grew on me mid-typing.
Thank you! I've been waiting for this! The fact that anyone can support them/the brand, model for them, or waste money on the brand is staggering.
THANK YOU. Jeez the amount of times I've had to have this conversation with people is crazy
Let’s face it. The fashion industry is shady AF and, if you dig really deep, you will probably find dark things for every single brand. They are just open and don’t care about the problematic things they do / say.
i love this comment!! i agree 1000%
I’m watching this video three years after, and it’s still totally relevant. I had no idea about dolce and gabbana all this time! And I love that these videos hold the relevancy, because I just found this channel and I am going back and binging.
I really want to see you reenact the ‘cerulean blue’ scene from The Devil Wears Prada as Miranda P!! Honestly your content is amazing xx
Thank you for making all these videos, I learn so much. You're legit like an art historian.
I think he took “bad publicity is still publicity “ a little too serious
This video is so great in so many ways! It's not you hating on a brand, it's you giving informed opinions with all the receipts down in the information box! Thank you for all the effort you put into actually educating people like me on this, AMAZINGGG
My blood pressure just rose watching this. Amazing job on the video.
I love your videos! It's nice to see a creative channel like yours among boring ass click-bait/drama videos. Your videos are so educational & refreshing!
Lol “she’s in a coach contract” 😂 honestly true tho you can’t blame her.
I have binging this channel for days. I am getting some inspiration for my embroidery and beaded embroidery design ideas and here for all the sass. Yes!
This kind of entitlement from Americans is extremely annoying. You're not the center of the universe, guys.
Truth! In Argentina we called Romanas. The slaves thing are braceletts like the Cartier ones the rings, they're a comon aniversary gift
Slave Sandals? Never heard that and I'm italian lol. In italiano sarebbe..?
Si chiamano "Sandali alla schiava". Sono quelli che hanno i lacci che vanno tutto intorno alla caviglia/polpaccio. Spesso sono color cuoio.
Well all this video contains some stupid "issues" that only the entilted americans can have an issue with it.
elenabob well a American is making this video so what do you expect💁🏾♀️
you’re great at critical analysis, but possibly more important, is you give a conclusion. you give solutions and provisions for the future. for that, you deserve serious respect.
I love your content. Honestly this is something new, it’s not basic vlogging, or bullshit UA-cam drama. You’re not only educating people, but you’re not afraid to speak your opinion. Love it keep up the amazing work ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I feel like with every video you make you get a little more spicy and I'm living for it.
“… is literally what I love about women…” I knew when I subbed it was for all the right reasons. I’m here for you ❤️🔥
Yes to this video 100x, so good to finally have someone talk about EVERYTHING that is problematic about D&G. Truly excellent video, will be sharing this with my fellow fashion students; you’re right, we can make a change. Thank you for always being excellent!
Let’s not forget their racist ad campaign they released last year in China where they blatantly made fun of how Asians eat and insulted the way Chinese people spoke mandarin.
I was questioning why you hated D&G on one of your other videos, and I'm SO happy I found this.
Love the video! You miss the moment when D&G design a pair of sneakers saying “I’m Thin and Gorgeous” ...
I know nothing about fashion and I thought that I wasn’t good enough to like it. Watching your channel has changed my mind.
Baby this video is so important! Thank you very much!!! It was about time an influencer like you raised the voice to call out those horrible men.
Had no idea about all of this. I was considering buying some of their pieces, well, not ever gonna happen. Thank you for educating me.
They both have no self-awareness.
You called it before the whole China thing! Damnnn!
I don't like D&G because their designers have sharp tongues plus their designs are getting tackier and tackier each year.
Honestly *we have to stop being offended by EVERYTHING* ... News flash- we all are allowed to have our own opinions on things. You know... Different people equals different brains which equal different thoughts and opinions. Smh.
No-one is saying that you can't have an opinion. But being a racist, commenting the things they comment and sexism is offending.
thanks for the information, it's relevant! kisses from Brazil
I literally just found your channel today and I'm legit binge watching everything your content is what I fucking need
I'm Italian and i totally agree with everything you've said about them, but I in Italy the sandal are also called "alla schiava", I think is for this reason they had called their sandal "slave shoe".
Sorry for my English🥲
I love the messages that you deliver to us really and I can't miss a video of yours thank you so much luke ❤❤❤❤
You might be interested in their recent actions in China which prompted a large boycott, not just from consumers, literally the big Chinese e commerce companies have taken their products off the shelf. And D&G did a grovelling apology where they seem to stare at a teleprompter.
Luke, you’re my favorite influencer! And I think you’re doing a fabulous job! Nice to see you got a bit of sun, son😘
why did the thumbnail just ask me “you know what’s beautiful, look at the first word 😘” and then ghost me lmao
Love ❤️ “setting aside your beef in order to come to another women’s defense is literally what I love about women”
I've commented on so many videos but honestly I LOVE YOUR CONTENT and can't say it enough!
2:33 "in this essay I will..." meme come to life
I am obsessed with you, we love an informed responsible queen
You must - for sheer humor - point out Dolce & Gabbana’s cognitive dissonance and their dire need of cognitive therapy. Lmao. Superb video! I love it!
Great video! I always wondered why you were so negative about D&G and now I understand why.
This is my first video of you that Im watching, Im glad I found you!!!
sorry but chrissy tiegen is not the queen of morals
Jenny H true! She goes on about “healthy living” but smokes cigarettes! Mmm okuuur Chrissy!
Jenny H she sure isnt
Girlie I’m obsessed with your channel
dolce & gabbana copied the typical costumes of the 'botero' carnival in galicia, spain
I honestly never really like what fashion youtubers are wearing but I genuinely love almost all the pieces you wear! This shirt is fire.
Charles Garrett that's not a blouse, Charles.
Cardsmaster turn of phrase, sis.
Charles Garrett So, supporting Trump is on the same level as antisemitism and sexual harassment?? Are you trying to be edgy or are you just stupid?
Spacetruckgender to some people it is *rolls eyes* because they believe he’s anti-Semitic (his step-son is Jewish and Trump in the same vein as his political predecessors is in bed with Israel) and believe he’s a sexual predator (even though the allegations brought against him were dropped/one of the accusations came from someone who investigators have found does not exist/ and the “Grab them by the pussy” comment was of course quote mined since he prefaced it with they let you do it and how he was trying to court a woman to date him but it failed and he backed off)...it’s all bullshit to be honest
Basically, you are judging their fashion based on what they say. How convenient.
You are giving me full tony montana vibes and im one thousand procent here for it.
I genuinely enjoyed this video. I'll admit that many videos had me shook but this one is just ... great.
I always suspected some designers hate women but wow!! This is an eye opener! 😱
