It was probably the start of their public problems with the gay marriage and Ivf comments happened. But I remember in the 90’s, Naomi Campbell mentioned she wasn’t allowed or hired to walk for Dolce and Gabanna because they didn’t want a black model. It was only Linda and Christy who lobbied for her and protested against them.
Pretty sure Cindy advocated for her as well. The 4 of them frequently show love for one another,

"I got to Milan and there were many designers in the 80s and 90s that hadn't used black models or models of color and when my two friends (Linda and Christy) were picked for a job, we will speak between each other 'what jobs are you doing?' and i'll say 'I'm not doing that one' and they'll be like 'why? you should be doing it, if we're doing it, you should too' So they would go to the designers and say 'you don't have her? You forgot the fact that they were also the ones to refuse Naomi Campbell on their runway in the 80s. You can add racism to their problematic history list.
Edit: For the people that didn't know, this took place during a time wherein racial discrimination was still even more prevalent than it is today. What makes this case stand out though is the fact that Naomi Campbell was already a well respected model at the time ( which adds to the oddness of them declining her ) and that it was only when her fellow supermodel friends and tirinity members, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, stood up for her telling D&G that they wouldn't get them if they didn't hire Naomi, that D&G ended up using her. It's sad.

Naomi Campbell was already a respected model at the time so to decline her I mean...you're not gonna tell me that it had to with her skill or her talents. On top of that, it was only when her friends and fellow tirinity members, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista, stood up for her and told D&G that "if they wouldn't use Naomi, they wouldn't get them" that they ended up using her. As two up and coming supermodels you wouldn't say this without very good reason.

D&G’s comments about IVF pregnancies being "chemical offsprings and rented uterus." has always been hurtful to me because my mom spent five painful years going through IVF treatment to have me.
I'm glad she had you. There have been more than 8 million babies born through IVF since 1978. Unlike the 50% of Americans who were born from unplanned pregnancies, your birth was planned. You were loved even before you were conceived. I think that says a lot.

I’m an IVF baby and tbh I think the science behind it so fucking cool so I don’t mind being a “chemical synthetic baby”. I may have been made in a lab but at least I’m not a shitty person 🤷🏼♀️

For the “ slave sandal “ I think the backlash is not deserved. It’s just a thing lost in translation. In Italian it’s a type of shoe “sandali alla schiava” and it is a reference to roman days . So someone did the mistake to just translate it literally thinking it was a word used in English too

i'm not saying that, i'm saying that in Italy that type of shoe is called like that because of our history. That is our context of why it is called like that. So that literal translation of that particular word is wrong because without the italian cultural context it is indeed a bad word especially in the states because it connects to recent black slavery days.

I have to say, I reeeaaally liked Dolce&Gabbana back in 2006-2007, I still remember FW07 I was blown away. I started hating them since 2010. Every single collection after that year looked like the one before. I bet they haven't paid a pattern maker eversince. And now they're assholes as well.

Thank you! I've been waiting for this! The fact that anyone can support them/the brand, model for them, or waste money on the brand is staggering.
A lot of this strikes me as guerella marketing though especially the "slave sandal". The uproar isn't a mistake, it's the point. We are now in a whole new era of "no bad press", where while historically bad press would damage brands that already had a lot of value, today with social media the message fades faster than the brand recognition. So you tack your brand onto an outrage and then it ends up in video's like this. You know what shows up a lot when the sentence "Dolce and Gabbana are Problematic" is repeated across the internet, the brand name.
What I love about your channel is that no matter how ugly you think the outfits are, I've not heard you say so far that someone looks ugly. You only point out the clothes, which, yes, might offend some people but you don't attack the people behind the clothes. This makes clear what a big understanding you have of the fashion industry and also just how work is done with dressing celebrities. The only people you come for are those that are literally ugly on the inside. And let's be honest, when you're ugly on the inside, it shows quickly on the outside as well so grazie for being so honest but also really thoughtful at the same time 🧡

I think that many people could not care less about a designer’s view on life, politics, etc. many people buy dolce and gabbana because they like the clothes. They do not know or do not care about their positions. I am not saying this is right or wrong but it is what I observe. Not everybody ties his purchases to value judgements.

To be fair on one thing: slave sandle is the exact translation from the italian, which is how we call a typical style of sandal. There is no offensive meaning behind it, it's just how it they are traditionally named.
