- Mel in Melbourne is one of UA-cam's many luxury lovers who dissect their fashion and leather goods purchases for their audience in order to not only share their experience but also give helpful hints and advice. In today's video, we explore her closet tour which of course featured brands like Hermès with her Kelly and Birkin bags, as well as Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. Her shoe collection also featured the likes of Chloè, Stuart Weitzman, and Gucci. And her closet seems to feature some intriguing Australian brands like Zimmermann as well as more luxury Frenhc counterparts like Balmain and YSL!

She actually wears her clothes and has a great sense of what suits her, the muted colours along with a splash of fun. The bag collection is not showy or untouched. She actually uses them. Yes to buying vintage and auction. She knows the importance of buying classic pieces like the black chanel tweed jacket which will never age. It was her best item. I'm surprisingly impressed.
She has NO taste in clothes. PERIOD.
@@kateef8441 yes she does, her taste suits her. It's functional not just for show.
@@kateef8441 she's a middle aged asian woman born in AUS she's not going to be strutting around in avant garde lmfao
Not showy? 😂
@@kateef8441 ridiculous comment. She shops for her age, style and environment. She looks stunning.
I think this closet shows really well what the average closet of luxury buyers looks like. Mel isn’t really a celebrity or high fashion influencer. I think a lot of people can relate with the items she has in her closet!
True that. Many rich people and normal luxury buyers are just into buying minimal, classic luxury bags and shoes and more relatable, practical and classic they are the more high class they sound to the buyers as I see normal people find many fashion forward stuff looking silly!
True!
Relate how? 😂
I far from relate even with a little extra coin in the bank.
@@cindimams4394 I think they meant that the concept is relatable, like, her closet just looks like a normal person's closet with stuff they actually wear (of course the actual clothing items are out of most people's budget).
I know that it seems like conspicuous consumption, but I consider her a collector. She values her collection, properly stores things and knows the provenance. She gives off a vibe that does not shout "entitled" (maybe just a very very slight whisper 😉) . All things considered, at least from this video, I like her. Plus that scarf dress shows she is not afraid to look a bit...different.
I love that she buys thrifted, vintage, preloved. Not everything needs to be brand new to be loved and so many of these couture branded goods have so much life left in them if they’ve been well taken care of. Exotic animal and fur goods especially. These days, there is zero need to keep using it and harming those animals but preloved, vintage, thrifted, these animals have been dead a long while now and it’s better for someone to buy secondhand and give it a new lease of life, the appreciation and love it deserves, rather than it be cast aside and sent to landfill.
Love your commentary and analysis as always Luke, you always bring the knowledge with an extra dash of sass! ❤️
I completely agree with you. Giving new life to old fur/exotic skin pieces is a great way for the animal to not have died in vain.
@@odvf Ahhh I’m so happy you understand what I was getting at! Especially if we can also ensure that no more animals are harmed going forward ❤️
I see your point, but still disagree. Prob. is it's still being glamorized, and we all know were that goes :(
I like the items but dont like any of her Instagram outfits...
I liked the fact that on the first jacket she pulled out one of the pocket buttons was undone, which implied to me that she actually wears it, and had put something in the pocket and never rebuttoned it. I appreciate that! Seems like so many of these tours are just "I own this, and this, and this ..." and very few are "I wear this."
I’ve been casually watching Mel since she started her channel. This critique is absolutely fabulous.
She is SUPER knowledgeable on Hermes B&K’s. She doesn’t mind talking prices as needed.
all her bags are fake
@@rockandblues3635You’re such a hater
I used to be obsessed with Mel at some point. I love that everything she buys is because she likes it not in a sort of competition sense that I feel others have.
What I love about Mel is how sustainable she is! If she doesn’t use something she doesn’t just let it sit around she gives it to people who willnude it.
She doesn’t use all those bags. Impossible
If you have been watching Luke for long now.. you don’t even need him to say anything. The facial expressions tell me everything
The cool things about Mel are first, that she’s knowledgeable and passes on information. Watch her Hermes videos to learn.
And when she sees a deal, she passes on the information in a super timely manner. Plus she goes to the trouble to post links for watchers.
I don’t see how anyone can use all this stuff, bit she seems to do pretty well in that regard. ❤️😊
I’m so excited about Mel, she has an amazing collection of bags
I will say this a million times but Australia (especially melbs) GOES OFF for fashion. People underestimate us but fashion is one of the biggest parts of metropolitan aussie culture.
Normally I think ugh with examples of conspicuous consumption but this video was sweet. The girl knows her looks and seems to appreciate fashion for the joy of it.
Love this ! I always appreciate how you can identify something within 5 seconds
I really need a bookshelf tour. I always stare at all the books whenever I watch your videos
Omg yes
Mel is an OG luxury UA-camr! Great to see you review her closet.
I think that’s a beautiful collection of bags! You can really tell that she cares about them and loves her pieces.
u wont believe me but i found out about your channel through my english professor when i was a freshman in college. she was also the editor in chief of our university journal and she said to me that she would always watch you whenever she writes about stuff mainly because she finds your critiques very knowledgeable and very informative. she likes your vocabulary. i can see that because i haven't stop watching u ever since and i just graduated last july.
Mel’s a buyer (I’m going to take an education guess probably for David Jones) She knows her shit. She also buys a lot from the Real Real and over secondhand luxury dealer. Love her, started watching her videos when I was an SA from Christian Louboutin.
"to each their own" = I hate it but I will keep my mouth shut
it's a mantra 😇
And because I didn't say I hate it I can change my mind
Excellent video!! I’ve always loved her view on handbags and every time she talks about one it just exudes appreciation for the items she collects, you can tell she is very passionate and buys things not to keep up with the Joneses or to intentionally signal wealth, but you can see it’s because she truly loves collecting them and sees their worth 🤩
I love her! She’s so cute and I feel like she’s so thoughtful about what she chooses to purchase.
Mel is one of my favorites she’s do down to earth and genuine.
Lukeeeeeee, I wanna watch Keke's 7 days 7 looks video but I'm waiting to watch it with you lol YOU BETTER REACT TO IT
I enjoyed Mel’s tour. She knew her pieces and gave explanations of her favorites.
Thanks Luke , I love your content.
Hey Luke - I would LOVE to know the names of the books you have on your shelf behind you! I would love to learn more about fashion history and designers! Would love if you could maybe make a shareable spreadsheet with the names of the books so we can read what you are reading! Absolutely love your channel and I always trust your opinion when it comes to fashion! Thank you so much !! x
The purple one behind his left shoulder intrigues me so much… we need to know!
Seconding! I would LIVE for a bookshelf tour.
Fourthing, hope he does it soon!
This is awesome Luke 💗 I super love Mel and Totally agree , she always give so much details in all her luxury items 😍 Especially in her vlogs 💗👍🏻 And a lot of luxury items were added 😅😍 Hope Mel will do another closet tour 😅😍 Thanks much again Luke for showcasing Mel 💗💕🥰
As an Australian I knew I was gonna get triggered by Luke’s pronunciation of 😤🥲Mel-boooorn
Yes I wasn’t going to say anything until Luke mentioned how Mel was saying Laurent …
As a Melbournian we pronounce it Melbn 😆
Plaid is everything to me I kept all my fathers flannel after he passed and I rock them all the time they are a classic to me I know alot of people look down on them but I find alot of luxury items I feel that way about to tushay
This and all of your reviews are at a level I cannot ever see myself ever attaining. They are lovely pieces.
I love how she actually pulls stuff out😍😍
Love this, super educated buyer and she always teaches me so much
New subbie 👋🏽 LOVE how knowledgeable you are with all of the fashion house history!
I literally get so excited when you upload
Luke, I love your reaction. I’m not really into the closet tour but your expression is very entertaining
Wow,Mel in Melbourne had lots of unique and classic pieces💯
I live in Melbourne..... and I have been following Mel.
Great to hear your thoughts on her collection..... She is a gorgeous gal.
Ugh love that you’ve decided to critique Mel. She’s an amazing content creator! Also just having a proud Melbournian moment here hehe
oooo i've been waiting for this one!
i just love how good he is with dating the designer pieces. like i really do come here for an education 💅
You continue to be a true delight. Thank you
I liked that she has a good knowledge base for what she owns and has some standout pieces and bags. But, there were so many shoe styles in a range of colors, which just seems like they’ll sit there collecting dust - ditto for some bags, SLGs, etc. I realize some of those items are investment pieces, though it’s always nice when people talk about wearing their things. The Hermes scarf “dress” was… creative, and some of the pieces she said she wears often seem too old for her. Lastly, and this isn’t specific to Mel, but I feel like Hermes has done a fantastic job of convincing to buy and buy and buy Birkins, and then talk about them like they’re so exceptional when the style’s really more practical than anything else (the price is not, but I do understand how much craftsmanship, etc, goes into them). There are so many beautiful bags out in the world that don’t have exclusive waiting lists and cost the equivalent of a year in college. Branch out! Support younger designers! They won’t devalue the rest of your collection, just make it a bit more diverse.
weyhey I never expected this crossover this is delightful 💕💕💕 I love Mel
(PS some friendly advice from an Australian on pronunciation that I'm sure u don't care about: pronounce it 'melbuhn' rather than 'melborn' ;) )
Mel is so knowledgeable on luxury designers she’s my go to luxury influencer!!
We all know we needed this video
Mel is a very down to earth UA-camr. I’m surprised you did a video on a UA-camr.
Luke's one sided beef with Maria Grazia is so cute omg 😂😂
I enjoyed this!! I follow her, she is sweet, glad you appreciated it!
Love your reactions, a true New Yorker...
Mel is great!
Loved this video. Thank you!!!
could you do a series on different countries brands and fashion? I think that would be interesting! as Aussie we love our own fashion because its very based on the climate :)
Luke We need a bookshelf tour! Always wondering what’s behind you 💞
the knowledge u have of all these fashion products is insane
I feel in love with that chanel black jacket since Karl released the book and I'll search the world for a mens L sized one or hope to get the money one day to order it haute couture 😭😂
it's sooo timeless
at the start- just me trying to even land my eyes on a pair of shoes as luke names all of them perfeclty
Wow, I love your encyclopedic knowledge of fashion! You made this so interesting. I follow Mel. She is so sweet. She has a wonderful “hubby” as she calls him, and two really good kids. And yes, we did not know how much we would miss Karl. Totally agree.
omg I love mel!!!!
‘MG always finds a way in, doesn’t she🙄’ 😂😂😂 💀💀💀
😂😂😂
Mel has a FANTASTIC Jewllery Collection, Full of
VCA, CARTIER,CHANEL 🥰
Mel is a UA-camr based out of Melbourne. She has gained a following sharing her love for luxury, including a pretty lengthy Hermes purchase history
I wish she would have pulled more clothes out - i feel like she has great pieces and there were so few. I enjoy her videos and i love that she isnt afraid to buy second hand. Sometimes you can find great things second hand
Her clothing is tacky trash.
Hi from Australia Luke I love your videos! 🤍 Can you please do a video on bags you would buy this year? I want to get my first designer bag but having trouble finding anything interesting, big hug! xx
"mel, your christian girl autumn is showing" lost it! hahaha
Her christian girl autumn is showing LUKE I CANNOT
'Those are scary looking' cracked me up 🤣
My mom used to wear a lot of Chanel pumps, purses, parfums, and ensembles.
“I’m not really a fan of being told to wait” you and me both buddy
You were so so sweet. I enjoyed this video alot. Thank you.
Love your shirt. ❤️
Yay, I love when you cover UA-camrs. Which luxury UA-camrs do you follow, if any?
You are so entertaining. I see you are kind of warming up to Berkins a tiny bit 😂😂🤣🤣
I love your shirt!
“Those are scary lookin” 🤣 I actually laughed out loud lmaoo
The yawn got me 🤣🤣
If he hasn’t reacted to Jamie Xe videos he needs to her hauls are so good
Just a girl that was born into massive welth and he minions prazing her for not picking “what the other girl” choose only because she is able Thanks to her parents… no Thanks
They're a lot of people in fashion and in the celebrity world that were born into it (it is unfair for the rest of us) however they take the opportunity they are given and who wouldn’t in their position?
I would love to hear what you think of Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. Lots of Dior history.
LYL 💗 Love you Luke! 😁
why cant every rich persons closet tour be this in depth im living for this n ur reaction and learning new things
I have no idea who this person is but I would watch you recite the alphabet for 10 hours so here i am ❤️
I NEED your shirt!!!!!
Completely with you in the waiting thing ....no nope lines no wait list no lol
Luke PLEASE react to UA-camr Tenicka Boyd!! She’s one of my favorite fashion people on UA-cam, her instincts are so good and I love her style and energy. She’s a smaller creator and not only could you get her name out, but I think you’d be thrilled with her looks!
Please give us a "tour" of that lovely fashion library behind you 👠📚🧑🏫
Do again with Ms. Heart Evangelista she made a video of her closet favorites 🧡 She also show’s a lot of her designer items🧡
Luke, could you write the brands that you mentioned after Zimmerman? I couldn’t understand what you said. Thanks! I love how knowledgeable you are! Do you teach at NYU?
I love how you say Mel-born. We say Mel-bin haha
It sounds weird when Americans say Mel-bin…. It sounds like… we are trying to fake how Australians say it but it’s not working?
I need all the Hermes bag
As an Australian who lives in Melbourne, it's pronounced "Mel-ben". With your accent, you'd pronounce a hard "r" but ignore the "ou"! It's such a common faux-pas with Americans, the way you guys love a long drawn-out vowel. 🥴
Also, the Givenchy bag is actually called Antigona like you first thought, not Antigony like the Greek tragedy!
Get over yourself 🙄 would you criticize non-native English speakers for mispronouncing "Mel-ben"? I ask as a multilingual American of recent immigrant extraction.
@@josephinebournes8212 I think get over YOURself and look at the material you're weighing in on, Ms BOURNES (of all the names for someone to come at me about this). 😂
As a fashion blogger who constantly criticizes and corrects himself and others' pronunciations, even in this video (Saint Laurent, hello???), I would imagine he'd be thankful for anyone pulling him in line with pronunciations of foreign cities. At least Luke is an American who has some shred of self-awareness and sense of irony. 🙄
Quit putting down Americans. Of course we mispronounce things just like you would in our country
@@katemiller7874 Actually Kate, I do know how to pronounce many bizarrely spelt American names like Arkansas, because the US dominates all Western media channels and we don't have much of a choice but to absorb American culture! The thing that separates people like you from people like Luke and I, is that we embrace being corrected, and educated, so thank god I'm like Luke and not you; perpetuating the ignorant and hypersensitive stereotype Americans are renowned for. 🙄
You should take a look at Kristen McMenamy Inside the Wardrobe. It’s a delight
i won her longchamp giveaway before and shes a very pleasant lady ❤️
You never fail to amaze me with the amount of knowledge you have and draw from
hi love :) are you gonna react to keke palmer’s 7 days 7 fits?? i would looovee to see it :)
Sould bags be arranged by color or brand ?
that cult gaia bag ! and the zimmermann skirt !! 😲😍 but you looked very bored 😅
Burkina Faso 😂 I’m impressed that you know that country exists
You’re gorgeous, amusing, knowledgeable and caring
Babes. I absolutely agree we need our fashionistas to pronounce fashion houses like Saint Laurent correctly. But can we also pronounce place names like Melbourne correctly - you used a very American way of saying it Mel-borne. In australia we have a much lazier affectation, Melbourne is pronounced Mel-burn or Mel-brne. The o is not pronounced or emphasised.
Tip for Americans: don't pronounce the r! Melb'n
Lampshade- tip for you we’ll pronounce it however we want
@@lampshade1304good tip!!
Luke, please, get a longer cables or Wireless Headphones. This too- short-almost-fell-off situation at your right ear gives me anxiety 😂🙈
Haha I don’t know what to do when you are so generous in your kind comments lol.
