    Great tips, thanks Mate! 🦑👍
    I also had a look at your video of 3 years ago: “LAND BASED SQUID FISHING MELBOURNE Mt Martha Cliffs”. Which is more relevant to those of us that do not have a Kayak.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  9 місяців тому +1

      This video is very relevant, the only key difference when land based fishing is to use a longer rod of 8-9 foot in length and you may need to work the jigs back a tad faster to prevent getting snagged. Cheers

    Alan, do you take the tide into consideration? ( in or out?)

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  9 місяців тому

      It really depends on where your fishing and how deep and how tidal it is. Top end of PPB where i do a lot of squid fishing I don't worry to much about tides, surprisingly on slack tide and just before and after tide changes the squid tend to fish really well. Especially in areas with high currents. Eg if I'm fishing West Port in high current areas ill do most of my squid fishing around slack tide and after that go and target gummies and snapper or whiting. Hope that helps

    Hey mate when is the Nelson video coming out.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  8 місяців тому

      Unfortunately the weather gods weren't kind to us at Nelson. We stayed for 3 days and had 50+k winds every day. It made the filming impossible and the fishing very challenging. What we did catch wasn't great to watch so we will head back there later this year.

    Hi Alan Love your content. For the squid lure does it sink all the way? Or does it stay above the bottom? Since it doesn't have a float what rig are u using? Cheers

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  9 місяців тому +1

      I let the squid jig get right down to the bottom, thats usually where the squid reside

      @fishingmad thanks for the reply. I bought a kayak last week and I can't wait to take it out. It's all thanks to you and Nev's content.
      Since I am a beginner do u think it's fine if I start practising near pricess pier in good wheather conditions?
      Tbh Iooking at River and lakes water it's too muddy and disgustingly 🤮

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  9 місяців тому +1

      Congrats on the kayak purchase. Yeah Princess Pier is a great spot. When starting just go out on calm days. I always study meteye and just pick the days with gentle breeze and low swell and youll be fine

    So not jigging the squid jig works too? Or you can use the jig to sit and wait for the bite? Thanks

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  9 місяців тому

      I employ a little bit of both. When its quiet ill often let it sit on the bottom for longer periods ( if your not getting snagged ) and juts add subtle lifts

      @@fishingmad can you try a dropper rig for squid too? Like multiple squid jigs attached to a t-rig. Thanks

      @@fishingmad As far as fishing goes, you are a magician. I am new to the hobby, and have yet to land anything. I did have a couple of gars nibble at my dough bait last Sunday at Frankston pier, and almost had what looked like juvenile Australian salmon have a couple of goes at some squid a couple of weeks ago at Mordy pier.
      But you know what, I am loving the chase, as well as learning different knots and setting up different rigs. Just hoping when warmer weather comes that I actually hook something! I thought about going after a stonker for a bit of fun and practice, but would rather get something wild.

    • @bowks1o_o669
      @bowks1o_o669 9 місяців тому

      @@justtania333 I figure that at some point it will all make sense and the fish will happen. At this point, I have had a wild trout bounce off a hard-body, a school of Australian salmon mess around with some squid, and a couple of schools of gars look lovingly at and nibble on my dough bait, but nothing, nada, zilch.

    So when the rods are in the holders. The jigs a sitting on the bottom ?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  8 місяців тому

      Yes, but its often moving because of the drift and current. You catch plenty with the sleeper

      Doesnt the jig just get caught in the weed ?

    • @fishingmad

      Yes, sometimes it can. But you catch plenty using this techniques so its worth doing. I think this was chatted about towards the end of the vid

    Eat the squid.The heads and tentacles are better bait than the rings.

  • @wordupwisdom
    @wordupwisdom 7 місяців тому

    Tip number 3457. Squid are inquisitive creatures. Take at least 2 rods and leave the first catch out in the water and cast the second rod close to the first and you will pull squid in 1 after another 😉
