Great thorough review. I'm a long time gearbox user, so I couldn't be more excited to try the Pro models. You should make the switch...welcome to the dark side.
Great detailed video, again, Chris. The overlay video at the net between the GB and DBD was very informative. I found it interesting that Chris Haworth switched from the GB Pro power to the control version in singles. My guess is he’s a big dude and generates plenty of power and maybe wanted to dial it back some.

Great video! And love the overlay comparing your DBD vs. Gearbox speed at the net. Love the value and novelty you're bringing to these reviews -- keep them coming!!! I still rock my DBD 16mm at the courts but keeping my eyes open on this Gearbox and other newer releases as a secondary paddle. Holding tight for now... but betting a Christmas present to myself is upcoming especially if SixZero releases a new line just as the holiday season hits. Time will tell.
Another great review with your unique perspective of testing. I Value your opinion and would go and buy one except that after watching your January review of the Legacy Pro and buying one without trying it first, it has never given me a reason to change.
Unlike you I have tried other paddles than the Legacy Pro and always ended back up real quick with the Legacy, like after one game. But I bought this paddle based on this and another review. My Legacy just went bad and although I ordered another I also bought this.
I have sent your video to 2 people to watch and I decided to watch it again. You are 100% putting forth more effort on the flick at your brother with the Gearbox. It is actually comical how much more effort. So although you recorded a faster time, you generated it yourself. It wasn't all paddle
I can’t believe gearbox didn’t give a code for pbstudio. I would think the hype around this paddle is primarily due to Chris Teasing it. Based on the comments in discord over the past few weeks I would think this has been the number 1 paddle being discussed and asked about in messages by far. Thanks for the review Chris. $275 feels like a significant outlay for my current skill level, especially if it ends up being challenged and the production version isn’t as hot as the demo you obviously got. It feels like a very odd rollout strategy, and I will hold off on seeing what happens with pro games. No point in dialing in a paddle that is illegal, or gets reformulated very quickly. But if it somehow is legal with MLP onsite deflection testing, it sounds like it is worth buying one ;)
Great video. I would love to see a overlay video of different spin rates. Different curve and dip patterns would be nice to see as spin rates increase. I bought the power fusion and love it, I am 70 and needed more power.
You need to watch Building Pickleball’s video with Gearbox founder & CEO Rafael Filippini who explains and shows the technology behind the Pro series of paddles. Very interesting and informative. 🏓
Hey Chis, I think you're on something new here. Rebound time could be the new measurement to be added to the paddle evaluation spreadsheet. A fraction of a second is a big deal to be able to react to the coming ball.
Great video (as usual). And this paddle really is a beast! I started watching this video last night, but only got through half of it. This morning, one of my buddies showed up for our game with one of these (power) paddles. As our day started, my partner (who usually takes great pleasure from tagging other players) got tagged five times in the very first game alone (by the player with this new Gearbox). I just finished watching the rest of this video and had to laugh at you tagging your opponents. Let's just say that he was very pleased with his new paddle (especially since he sponsored by Gearbox).
I love my CRBN 1x. I don’t even think of any other paddle for doubles. It is indestructible and still has significant spin after 6 months and the power is acceptable. But! I’ve been wanting more power for singles. Sounds like the elongated power version is the answer. I’m salivating after hearing you say it’s terrifying when a overhead goes up. 😊. As always, thanks for the review. You are the one I turn to when I am considering a new paddle.
After having an opportunity to play with a Pro Power this morning I think the hype is over the top. No way is this a game changer that could be banned. The power is not that significant in my opinion. I was surprised that the muffled sound off the paddle did in fact bother me. I wasn’t expecting that. I continue my search for the perfect paddle. 😂
@@ParryPickleballking-es2elLol. Actually because the sound was muffled, I kept trying to hit it harder. Hit some long. Today my shoulder is sore. 😮 I really need to play more with it to get an honest evaluation. The guy that let me borrow it says it definitely has more power than his 006 and he has a hammer for an arm.
@@bleuShoErn you need to be careful. I hear guys all the time complaining that their elbow or shoulder hurts from using a paddle. You shouldn't have to adjust your game to a paddle. The paddle should just work for you.
Thank you for the Super Cool review 👍🏻 after listening to you and your partner in crime. I bought the DBD 6.0 love the paddle had it for a week now ! Breaking it in or it’s breaking me hahaha ! But now for Christmas gift I think I want to add aGear box power Elongated Paddle to my backpack 🤷♂️keep those Videos coming 😎 Gear box are you listening hint hint hint 🙏
Like a dog drooling over a big juicy steak. I would love to try this paddle out. I’m a huge Gearbox fan and surprised they don’t have any pro players using them.
Sounds like an amazing paddle. I know you touched on it a bit in the end, but where would you put current top paddles like 6.0 DBD and other paddles? Will their technology still be relevant/competitive compared to the new Gearbox paddles or will a new wave of paddles take over soon?
Who doesn’t want a 0.1 sec advantage for about 3 Benjamins once said and done. Not only powerful but seems sneaky silent with its quiet-tech sound tech. I wonder if it just as difficult to hear and respond to a ball like I’ve encountered from players using a Vice paddle.
Outstanding video Chris. One unanswered question is -- if all these are 14mm thickness construction, what internal differences distinguish the power and control models for each shape variant?
I believe it has to do with how the carbon is laid on the face. The cores are nearly identical otherwise and the Control model is still very powerful in comparison to other paddles on the market.
It's in the direction of the fibers of the "tubes" North & South or angled like at 2&7 o'clock. That's how it's been done in previous models I believe.
I have seen interviews with Rafa (the owner of Gearbox) where he said that the line that you see around the perimeter is not an edge guard,. He said that it is just paint and the line that you see is where they mask it off. Also, it seems like calling the face "raw carbon" is a bit misleading. It's raw carbon covered in resin. Rafa said the textured face of the paddle is actually a result of their molding process, and an alternative to using a peel-ply sheet that most of their competitors are using. He claimed that it was very durable and would not wear out like the peel-ply faces.
Finally got mine the other day...i was so excited to use it with all the expectations and I still have a few more weeks to give it a final grade...I have used 14mm DBD since April and love this paddle...i went back and forth a few times from the GearBox to the DBD and I could tell the power and the weight differences between the 2...I put the same weights on both paddles in the same spots and the GearBox had a bit more pop...had to adjust the drives so they just went over the top of the net, otherwise they would be long......I still haven't committed 100% to the GB but since I paid 275 for the paddle, it's hard to just throw it in the bag and forget about it and go back to DBD exclusively...I will give the GB a few more weeks to decide because I know what the DBD does for me already...I let a few people hit with the GB and they were astounded by the pop right off the bat...of course both coincidentally were using Engage Pursuits so that was lightyears ago in paddle tech....the jury is still out but I am giving it a good run to make my final decision
Got the power and I could NOT for the life of me dial in on the power. Got the control and fell in love with pickleball again, LMFAO. I can definitely generate my own power but I just felt that the pro power was just too much that it scared me.
I’ve been playing Gearbox since day 1, and this paddle is subpar compared to my other paddles (CX14, CX14e, CX11). I bought the Pro Series the day it released, and within a week I had to get rid of it. I’m not bashing Gearbox as I stand by my other paddles, and all I can think of is that somehow the paddle I received was broken. Waiting for someone in my group to get one so I can try it again.
I bought a power elongated Tuesday and got to play a power fusion Saturday morning at Lucky Shots. He ordered last Sunday and got it in two days. The fusion power felt like a Hyperion CFS with CRBN 1X power. A little less power than Legacy Pro, but the elongated hopefully matches Legacy. Feel, control and spin on the fusion were best I've ever played. For this much power it's ridiculous. Dwell time seems very long, even at 14mm, the exact opposite of the Black Ace. You'll love the paddle and hate the price. :)
I think the gearbox pro power elongated paddle is a great paddle. My thoughts on the Gearbox elongated pro power pickleball paddle. The Gearbox elongated pro power pickleball paddle is a power paddles and if you want better control of a power paddle then you need to add weight around the whole pickleball paddle which made mine a power paddle and a control paddle. I added 11 three ounce stripes around my pro power paddle. Also the reason for adding weights to ANY paddle is so that the paddle does not seem lighter than the pickleball itself when hitting or striking the pickleball. which without weights makes ANY paddle harder to control. I prefer to use any paddle that is not dominated by the pickleball itself when striking the pickleball which is why it is good to add weights to any and all paddles. and adding weights around the paddle also increases the sweep spot of the paddle.
Have you spoken to John Kew or STS Pickleball about the Fusion sweet spot? Both of them only had positives to say, so curious where the discrepancy in the reviews stem from.
I spoke to John. Not sure what the differences would be. I didn’t care for the Fusions though. I’m sure some of it comes down to preferences. I was particularly surprised since I’ve enjoyed shorter paddles recently.
Since the ball is travelling faster does that mean I will hit more out than I already do? LOL For every plus there is a minus. But I love your videos ! Keep up the great work!
I had heard some pros (with other sponsorships) were complaining about the Gearbox new technology...Are these paddles now under review by PPA or maybe USAPA? Can they revoke the approval for them after having approved them already?
In my opinion, if gearbox wasn’t going to add any more to the width of the paddle, they should’ve added to the length of the handle itself. It’d be like the selkirk invikta to the selkirk mach6. Still, I hope they come out with a standard, quadraform shape of the pro in the future.
Chris, any updates for us on resets/drops and fast hands with the GB Power Elongated? I too have loved the DBD for an all around playing paddle, so I'm curious if you still prefer the GB Power Elongated for an all around paddle. Seems like a good singles paddle for sure.
At 275 I'll wait and stick with my DBD as control and fast hands at the net are more important. I figure a lot of time will be needed for this power paddle to adjust too. Wouldn't mind trying it at some point this winter tho! I've moved away from power over the past 6 months and it's not about the money. Same reason I like the GRUVN MUVN 13S, control, speed, swing weight.
Solid review! I just played with one and agree on a lot of the points. I have the RUBY which is my primary and waiting for the 14MM Ruby which I believe will be the best balance for my game. Can you do a review on the CRBN 1X 12MM Thomas Wilson edition? I'd be curious to see how that compares to this Gearbox Power Elongated. Thx Chris!
Played the Pro Power and the Selkirk Vanguard Control midweight. I found better performance and power from the Vanguard Control. If you just want pop, go with the Pro Power.
I have both the Pro Power Fusion and the Pro Control Elongated. Let's start with the Pro Power: the lack of feel was terrible for my game. Resets were next to impossible. I had to be super delicate with grip strength and overthink every shot. IMO, the power is overrated. Coming from a 6.0 DBD, I would have to completely overhaul my game to use this paddle effectively. Now for the Pro Control: this fit my style of play better than the Pro Power, but still required me to alter my game considerably. Still a lack of feel for ground strokes and drives. Kitchen game and resets were solid, but I couldn't counter or attack effectively. I am returning both paddles and sticking with the DBD, especially considering the astronomical price for these paddles. Not worth it IMO.
I'm curious about the same thing. I've been playing with the Black Ace and love it. I'm curious if this Gearbox Power has a little more control than the Black Ace?
Hi. Could you make a comparison/review between Gearbox Pro Power and Gearbox CX11E Power? Which is a better paddle in terms of power, control, feel, speed, etc ? Hope to hear from you soon. God Bless.
Played a game with the power fusion today and it was good but kinda hated it. I didn't feel anywhere near as powerful or as poppy as a CRBN 1X I hit with right before it. The sound made me feel like I was miss hitting it as well. Wouldn't even spend $100 on this paddle.
Like you said, the Control has been effortless! The fusion takes some time to get used to coming from an elongated, but just insane the confidence they bring.
@@steve-94951 Yeah I cannot get behind their choice. I'd much much rather have the stability of a higher twist weight paddle than the "manueverability" of a lower twist weight paddle. Twisting paddles just doesn't require much time/effort for a human hand, but a ball hit off center that changes the resulting shot angle even a little bit is a disaster.
Oh man, Chris, the timing of your video couldn’t be better! Yesterday, due to flying from CA to MI all day, i was playing phone tag with Brandon at Gearbox who was calling to arrange for my payment of my Pro pre-orders! I was planning to go with the Fusion control and power because I’ve been loving my CX14H red (the blue ultimate was too heavy), especially in hand battles and resets. Like you, swing weight and hand speed is important to me (tried the Legacy and felt like i lagged a bit in hand battles). But after watching this video, I’m re-considering my order and changing it to the power elongated. Was planning to get 2 paddles so might now get the Elongated power and control to compare. Or should I get the power in both elongated and control???? Thanks again!!! Calling Brandon later this morning.
This is really good opinion piece. I find your opinion on the fusion a little bit harder to believe, simply because of the statistics and metrics that they displayed on John Kew’s paddle database
Ok this is interesting. They shaved a half inch off a paddle, WHY? Is it really making that big a difference in swing speed? Six Zero has a curved top specifically for this reason. So obviously they found similar data in testing. The truth is in the stats on this one, I tend to agree with you here, and I never would have considered a shorter paddle simply because of net play but here we are.
That overlay video on your flick test is fantastic! Such a good way to show the velocity this paddle generates compared to normal paddles.
Chris, I played with it 3 weeks ago, and that was exactly my reaction " How this paddle is legal." In my experience, Bangers will love it.

If anything, I was swinging harder on the DBD. I did this test multiple times with both paddles and the DBD never got faster than 0.3 sec.

This is the moment where paddles need to be reigned in. If good players cannot reacts to a mediocre wrist flick, we’ve got a problem here.

Chris, Do you know why these paddles are not on USA pickleball's approved paddle list on their website?
Because Gearbox didn't want them to show up until the were released. They will appear the next time USAP updates the database.
@@webstermiller7765 Still not on the website which was updated yesterday.....things that make you hummmmm????
Played the Pro Power and the Selkirk Vanguard Control midweight. I found better performance and power from the Vanguard Control. If you just want pop, go with the Pro Power.
How would you compare Pulsar R1 vs DBD vs Volair Mach 1?
ALL BULLSHIT - IT IS THE PLAYER, NOT THE PADDLE. The Gearbox Paddle SUCK. It pop the shoot everywhere
Where’d you buy from that you can return them after using

I'm curious as to how this compares with the ProKennex Black Ace 🤔
I'm curious about the same thing. I've been playing with the Black Ace and love it. I'm curious if this Gearbox Power has a little more control than the Black Ace?
It does have more control than the black ace DDR@@elvnprince
@@unsweeticedtea4139 cool, that's awesome to know. Thanks!
0.2 seconds, but your foot is on the kitchen line.....LOL!
Just to confirm, you are recommended some lead tape on the throat areas of the Power Elongated?? Could you please advise? Thx.
Hi. Could you make a comparison/review between Gearbox Pro Power and Gearbox CX11E Power? Which is a better paddle in terms of power, control, feel, speed, etc ? Hope to hear from you soon. God Bless.
what do you think comparing the pro power gearbox to selkirk invikta power air?
Played a game with the power fusion today and it was good but kinda hated it. I didn't feel anywhere near as powerful or as poppy as a CRBN 1X I hit with right before it. The sound made me feel like I was miss hitting it as well. Wouldn't even spend $100 on this paddle.
How do you like this compared to an "Invicta power Selkirk"?
People are sleeping, was on a Perseus 16 and now cx14e ultimate power and I’m not switching back. The levels aren’t even close.
How does the Gearbox Pro compare against the Black Ace by ProKennex?
Love the content ! Could you do a review on the Holbrook 16MM please ?
Hopefully they come out with the demo... Seems like a fun paddle, but I'd definitely need to try it first. Definitely intimidated by the power.
Hi Chris, thanks so much for all your videos. Can you please do a review on A11N Zenith 16mm paddle(both C7 and C8)?
Love the review! @PickleballStudio will you be reviewing the Spartus Ballista V2 soon?
This thing is so much like the Diadem Vice! Crazy power.
Do you think it getting banned is a real concern? That would be brutal to buy one and then not be able to use it.
Im curious as well.
Like you said, the Control has been effortless! The fusion takes some time to get used to coming from an elongated, but just insane the confidence they bring.
Did you buy them or just try them?
@@ParryPickleballking-es2elI own both the control and power fusions
Do you like the Fusion or Elongated better?@@lukebergman19
You prefer the power fusion over the elongated?
@@bryanmillayes5902I’m really liking the elongated at this time!
You should review the Holbrook power pro!
Very weird that the shorter paddle didn't get wider than the longer one.
Apparently because they wanted to keep it "maneuverable" by keeping the twist weight down.
As Chris said this seems like a mistake
@@steve-94951 Yeah I cannot get behind their choice. I'd much much rather have the stability of a higher twist weight paddle than the "manueverability" of a lower twist weight paddle. Twisting paddles just doesn't require much time/effort for a human hand, but a ball hit off center that changes the resulting shot angle even a little bit is a disaster.
More power and pop than labs 002 or power air?
How much and where did you lead the Power Elongated? Thanks , great Vid!
Hey Chris, what lead tape are you using for this paddle in particular?
how is the gen3 illegal and this legal?
This is really good opinion piece. I find your opinion on the fusion a little bit harder to believe, simply because of the statistics and metrics that they displayed on John Kew’s paddle database
Consistently the power fusion was outperforming the power Elongated, in serve speed, as well as hand speed and punch volley (pop/touch)
Why is EVA foam not legal?
As long as the surface roughness is same, should be fine.
Also they should use Ultra boost foam from Adidas shoes :)
best review ever
How are the vibrations? I haven't been able to use previous GB paddles because they aggravated my pickleball elbow.
On the power model, muuuuuuuch improved. The control model still had some of those harsher vibrations in my opinion.
@@PickleballStudio Thanks. Loved the video, by the way. The high speed measurements and the superimposed video segment were awesome.
How does power and pop compare to the Legacy Pro? I suspect they are similar.
