Andy Griffith showed that you don't have to be dirty or gross to be funny. I watched this when I was a kid but I also watched Laurel and Hardy, W.C. HE only did 5 episodes But in my mind he was a lead character unforgettable earnest T. bass one of the funniest actor's of the 1960's'.don't forget to catch his other work for the untouchables. He played a gangster.
I think his appearing - and rightfully so, as the "lead character" because he was outstanding, is why he was LED OUT of the series: Andy Griffith was known to be moody (even violent at times - throwing things, acting out) and he only got along with a few people. He was also likely to be VERY jealous of the attention Howard Morris got. He didn't like to share the scene - except for with Don Knotts: his lifetime best friend, and also one of only the two people he could tolerate on the show (they weren't afraid of him): - Aneta Corsaut (his many years lover) and knotts. - But again, Griffith would frequently pitch actors from the series when he felt they took attention away from him.
It speaks volumes about the character, writers and of course the actor himself that he was only in 5 episodes? Amazing. I watched him over 55 years ago and to this day I still have the memory of his character pop up in my mind periodically. The man definitely made an impression on this 6-year old going on 64.

Howard Morris was such a great actor. You would never know he was acting. Plain and simple he submerged himself into this part with every thread of his body.
For those that don't know, the character "Ernest P Worrel" was inspired by "Ernest T Bass" and if you don't know who that is you can look him up. The characters act and dress similarly but their are some differences that make them unique, the actor who played him was Jim Varney and he had his own line of Ernest movies so if you loved Ernest T Bass and want more of him, this may be a great substitute for more content. Both are legends
He was brilliant in acting, writing, and directing. I wish he could’ve been my neighbor. “ People in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.” Ernest T. , the epitome of that quote…
My favorite show of all time, I watch episodes over and over. I know almost every line of every episode. There were many Great characters created on this show n Ernest T Bass was just one of them. What a great legacy they left behind. May they always rest peacefully . They just don't make them like this anymore. Thank you for the upload, it was thoroughly enjoyed.
They should have done a spin off for the Ernest T Bass character and gave him his own show! Just imagine how good that would have been. Either that or they should have made him a regular character on The Beverly Hillbillies!
My husband and I named our male guinea pig Ernest T and our female Romina. We both love Ernest T!!! He was quite a handsome young man! R.I.P. Howard Morris Thank you for the laughs!
Two of my favorite scenes . The first, being school. Counting with his feet Second is when he had gotten a uniform but still couldn't get a girl. He told Andy that he wrote her a love note and tied it to the prettiest rock and threw it through her window. When Andy asked what her reply was, Bass said she couldn't say nothin The rock hit her right here in the head. Ha!!!!!
Too bad that Ernest T. was not in more episodes. What a funny, memorable character! I guess watching them for decades makes us feel he was in more shows than five episodes.
Each episode had something special that you couldn't forget. Aunt Bee, Gomer, Goober, the Darlings, and many more, they were characters that made the show genuine.
@@tammybrown3582 yeah i didn't like the etb character. Except it was funny when barney dressed up as bride instead of the girl,& when the veil was lifted he found barney!! And he was regular on syd ceaser show i think.
I loved that. It was like frosting on cake when he was featured on a show. Amazing how easy it was for him to transition between comedy and pathos. To be able to transition between Jester and Drama is quite a range of acting talent. Between he and Barney, the show was made for me. I was about fourteen years old when it came on the scene and filmed in my hometown that I still live in. Thanks
You are so lucky to live in your hometown if it is anything like it appeared to be. I'm an actor, and I thoroughly agree with your assessment of his acting skills....Watch him on "Boris Karloff" - the episode called "Lethal Women". Morris does two entirely separate characters in this excellent program - with Rosemary Harris (Murphey?) A great acting duo. - I think that program reflected his range better than any except this, which is comedic.
The "Education" episode is the best. The geography seen with "Old Man Kelsey's woods, crick, and ocean is classic. Also Andy and Miss Crump dissing Barney "He'd kill ya".
Throwing rocks. Doesn't give a damn what they hit. If they hit a child in the head that's too bad. Hitler didn't give a damn about Anne Frank, either. 😡

@@stephenlally6009 Rock throwing to damage property and intimidate people. No appeal there. What was the purpose of Kristallnacht? (Cf. the ending of _Blues Brothers)_

I guess that's why he didn't get Charlene.
Howard Morris was such a great actor. You would never know he was acting. Plain and simple he submerged himself into this part with every thread of his body.
Hands down, the best tv show ever.
Nothing tops the hilarity of when Ernest says "especially when I'm DAAEEENT-SIN'! " LOL!
Him & his darn rocks and I love it!
He's like the riddler and the joker inside the body of a dimwitted mountain man.
Ernest T. kinda reminds me of a less sinister Max Cady (Robert De Niro) from Cape Fear lol
Only diabolical and unstoppable!!!

@@shannonsmith6678 what???
Howard Morris was a very talented gentleman
The man was ahead of his time - rapping and exhibiting symptoms of ADHD.
They are still around. Trust me on this.
@Slomofogo no....those were the idiots who voted for Hillary
Invented rap.
@@DrHugoZQuackenbush Mountain men were shuffle dancin' a century or more ago...
ADHD? The guy was clearly psychotic.
He made me laugh 😂 so hard
He was REAL comedy
Two of my favorite scenes . The first, being school. Counting with his feet
Second is when he had gotten a uniform but still couldn't get a girl. He told Andy that he wrote her a love note and tied it to the prettiest rock and threw it through her window.
When Andy asked what her reply was, Bass said she couldn't say nothin
The rock hit her right here in the head. Ha!!!!!
He's my all time favorite character on Andy Griffith 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ernest T Bass is the man one of my favorite.....
I just never understood why he was in so few episodes! He was so funny and talented I would have had him as a regular!
Me too.
I wondered if it might be because he took away some of Barney's time--adore Howard.
The Earnest T. episodes were always the best!
Too bad that Ernest T. was not in more episodes. What a funny, memorable character! I guess watching them for decades makes us feel he was in more shows than five episodes.
Never laughed so hard in my life even I seen him throw them rocks!!!
Ernest T probably the greatest non regular character on a tv show . 👍
Its too bad he wasn't made a bigger part of Andy Griffith Show
Each episode had something special that you couldn't forget. Aunt Bee, Gomer, Goober, the Darlings, and many more, they were characters that made the show genuine.
Look him up when he was a regular on the Sid Caesar show, very talented man... Howard Morris
He is dumb person
@@tammybrown3582 yeah i didn't like the etb character. Except it was funny when barney dressed up as bride instead of the girl,& when the veil was lifted he found barney!! And he was regular on syd ceaser show i think.
@@tammybrown3582
That means you bought into his character. That's the sign of a good actor.
Only 5 HE'S A LEGEND !
Ernest T. Bass cracks me up.
He was a wonderful actor .Its me its me Ernest T Bass
Its Me its me its Ernest T Bass
The "Education" episode is the best. The geography seen with "Old Man Kelsey's woods, crick, and ocean is classic. Also Andy and Miss Crump dissing Barney "He'd kill ya".
Yeah. Kill. Are you watching, Anne Frank?
@@dougmontgomery1868 not sure how that relates to Ernest T. ???
Throwing rocks. Doesn't give a damn what they hit. If they hit a child in the head that's too bad. Hitler didn't give a damn about Anne Frank, either. 😡
@@dougmontgomery1868 never mind. Have a nice day there Doug.
Doug you have issues!
One of my favorite characters on the show, along with the Darlings.
The Dillard's is the name of the group that played the Darlings.
What about Otis Campbell?
Howard Morris performed this part so well I could have sworn he was in more than just 5 episodes.
Oh, man! He was such a wonderful character! I've never seen anyone like him!
Ernest T has touch me like no other character in all of the episodes on that great series, I can't stop watching him and it makes me laugh every time. I have sat my son to watch him together and he likes him too, a big different type of talent from the garbage they have now.
ERNEST T BASS I LOVE YOU!! I JUST PLAIN LOVE YOU!! I'M TORN BETUIX TWO LOVES
Mabel Valdez Me too! Watch Green Acres, too. They tickle the funnybone.!
Mabel Valdez ..I want a T shirt with His face on it, saying "It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T ! Or "You haven't heard the last of Ernest T Bass!" LOL!
