Jeffrey. Me too. Damn shame these folks die, then you hear all this bad stuff about them. I know it's all talk. But they can't defend themselves. No wonder some them try to live forever.
I'm 56 and thought I had seen everything Andy had done. Thanks for sharing this! My wife and I still watch Andy Griffith practically every day. It truly is timeless.
Barney Fife was actually on a single episode of the Joey Bishop Show; Episode is called Joey's Hideaway Cabin (1964) and it's all but impossible to find. Been searching for 10+ years.
I thought I had seen everything that Andy Griffith had been in. But, eight years after this upload and I stumble across another unseen gem. Thanks, Bart. This was great!
@@garymcaleer6112 WRONG! #1 Just anybody doesn't go to heaven (I have no clue if Andy Griffith or Bob Hope were Christians or not. * Bob Hope often failed in his sketches to allow guests to reach their full comedic potential. When Don Rickles did a silly sketch with Bob I so wanted Don to step out of character and call Hope a has-been hockey puck but alas Don apparently had too much respect for Hope to do that even if it would've saved the sketch. ☺
I like to watch Andy Griffith and it's so entertaining to see Bob Hope on the show too! A nice cell for Bob Hope!! Catering and the comforts of home! Lynnae Larson
Just remembered something. One of Bob's writers met one of Andy's creative control guys. Larry Gelbart met Gene Reynolds and they went on to shape a TV sitcom called MASH. A couple of episodes were even directed by Bob's announcer Hy Averback who also announced for MASH as well!B.W.
I really liked this but I always get a lump in my throat when I see things from the fall of 1963 because I know that something shocking, sad and tragic is going to happen to our country on November 22, 1963.
Yeah, did you know that Andy Griffith went crazy on the set when JFK was killed? He was banging around, slamming filing cabinets, etc. Don Knotts knew how upset he was and he just put his arm around Griffith and walked him away
@@upthedownescalator630 I have read that. Andy Griffith was always a good liberal/progressive. Did you see the commercials in favor of the Affordable Care Act that he did?
@@upthedownescalator630 The shows where Andy has his hand in a cast and Aunt Bee asks him what happened and he says that he had a little trouble with a prisoner, that was because in actuality, he broke his hand when he heard that Kennedy was assassinated.

This was from Bob's second NBC Chrysler special in the 1963-'64 season. And the amazing thing about them, was that he was also appearing weekly as host of "BOB HOPE PRESENTS THE CHRYSLER THEATER"- which was on film, in color. Yet, his own variety specials WEREN'T telecast in color until December 1965! That's Peter Leeds, a regular Hope "stooge", as the guy seated on the left in the cab...
Fun! Strange to think that they made a joke involving JFK. Four weeks later to the day after this show aired, JFK was assassinated in Texas. Looking back, they had no idea.
And the cab driver was character actor Charles Smith who played in many films starting in the late 1930's. He played in the Henry Aldrich series as Henry's friend, Dizzy Smith; needed "H2o" for his car while giving James Cagney Jive-talk lessons in "Yankee Doodle Dandy"; invited for Christmas dinner by Frank Morgan at the end of "The Shop Around the Corner"; along with countless other movies and television appearences.
Because this wasn't a part of his show this is a part of Bob Hope's 1963 show. Might be able to find that if you look up the old Bob Hope specials of the sixties on DVD.
Everybody who talks about Cosmo Kramer hired as one of Murphy Brown's secretaries should realize the value of this network crossover as well. Andy himself was the one who decided to end the show. He didn't want it to drag on and also wanted to go out in top - it was featured in the Top 10 in Nielsen ratings for each of its nine seasons (1960-68).
