    Good video, and very deep. I have a lot of thoughts but they're hard to put to words in a short space, but you are absolutely correct. Being a sheep dog is as much, maybe more, a mindset than anything else. It's a code you live by.

      It's definitely or at least partially an upbringing thing. Folks that are taught from a young age to " act like a gentleman, until its time to be a sinner" seem to work best in these worlds. Respectful to a fault until it's time to be an asshole

    As a PO in Brazil, I've been put throught those kinds of situations... But I've never feel bad for what I had to do. In Brazil, unfortunately, cops are abused by the Justice. Clear cut cases of legal use of force are turn into "exemplary" convictions. Here, we don't have time to reflect... I always worried much more about judges' mental state than my own.

    One thing I think people overlook with hypothetical scenarios is that they know with certainty all the variables in play (they made up the situation, after all). The fog of war is a real thing, and not fully understanding a situation could be the difference between valid self defense and facing charges for murder.

    I also think about where my lines are. Where is the line where I am willing to do the hard thing and where not. Answering that ahead of time may remove the self doubt in the difficult moment and allow you to act appropriately.

    As much as I love your work Uncle, I have to disagree with you about the safety claim in the US. The US has one of the highest rate of crimes in the world. You said it that if we go to a dangerous neighborhood in Seattle, it is our duty to be aware of danger. I come from a 3rd world country and I can tell you despite the war we have in Lebanon, you can walk anywhere on the streets in the country at 3 am and no one will jump you. We cannot say the same thing in Canada or the US. I live now in Montreal, Canada for the past 35 years, one of the safest cities in the world and I can say it is not as safe as before. Toronto has drive-by shootings like Chicago in the 40s. With all do respect, some areas in the US are more dangerous than many cities in Africa.
    I love your work, I learned a lot from you. Thank you!!!!!

    Willingness is probably the hardest. Attention and preparing are skills that are easily practiced. Willingness is a decision you gotta make. Maybe right down to you soul, core values and beliefs.
    I don't know, I'm just guessing.

    • @unclefreedom213
      @unclefreedom213  Місяць тому +3

      You would be correct. It's hard because you can't truly know unless you're faced with it. That choice is definitely right down to your soul and core beliefs. Good people with good moral character find the act of taking a life or hurting someone hard to deal with doesn't mean they won't do it, but it does mean that the decision will weigh on them in their heart and in their mind. It's really beneficial to know where your limits are mainly the stuff you would never do, and it helps you be honest with yourself. There is nothing wrong with you if you can't take those actions, but you have to be honest with yourself and do some self-reflecting. I have a hell of a lot more respect for a person that knows deep inside that they could not take those actions and is honest with themselves and other team members. That way we can put that person in a place where they can do the best without getting themself killed. Hacksaw ridge was one of those cases the man was a medic but knew he couldn't take a life so he put himself where he could do the most without compromising himself or putting others at risk with his inaction.
      We're not all built to be fighters but we're also not all built to be doctors and chaplains either. Honestly in my life I feel worse about having to kill an animal that was hit by a car than I do most other stuff I've had to do. I was raised to respect the land and the game right down to thanking the animal for it's life and for the food it will provide. My family is Native American and farmers and hunters with the vast majority of the males being Military

But some of the First videos I watched from him was really just classroom talk about exactly what you discussed tonight you have to find those boundaries in your mind before things happen like what will it take to be involved

    It is a matter of the details. Being able to collect as many details as possible within a minute's time to be prepared to act within a half of a second's time. The ability to avoid and escape from any situation that may cause danger or harm to you or your family. Act and react, for every action there is an equal reaction, let that soak in.
