Holly crap, you made come some very good memories from back in 1994 when I used to fix this kind of engines, this model in particular is almost indestructible unlike the Briggs & Stratton and the Tecumseh. Shit I'm getting old! 😂😂😂
Great job, you have inspired me to do this to an old Honda job site compressor it's a bit larger but the same procedure, thanks for the inspiration. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
Simply fantastic video. I teach precision measurement and metrology and just really enjoyed your approach. Well done indeed! So nice to see craftsmanship!
I have an old Briggs and Straton lawn mower engine that I stripped and cleaned like this. The idea was to turn it 90 degrees to run like this Honda. My only draw back is I can not find piston rings for the engine. Great job with the little honda engine💪 Inspire me to go and finish my project. (Need the engine to drive a wood mulcher machine for branches and twigs)
Don't use a punch to install bearings! Use a block of wood or an Arbor press. Also you need to torque the flywheel nut otherwise you risk the nut coming loose and the engine will not fire or run like crap because it's out of time. The flywheel can shift on the crank and break the woodruff key if that nut is not torqued correctly causing a no start condition!
Goeie môre AJ. Man daai motor lyk so mooi jy moet somer my copy van n Honda grassnyer ook so mooi kom maak jammer jy is so ver van die Oom af. Mooi rustige nag vir jou
Hey can you help me i have a same honda and restored it but ghe ignition coil was not working so went to buy it and i bought a used one but when i installed it doesnt work how do i check if the coil works, and what is the gap between the points?
To answer a question that was asked during the video The yellow stain on all the parts internally is from a lot of gas getting into the oil and it being continuously run or otherwise known as varnish
Yep, though, it seems that the stuck valve and some of the build up on the top of the piston and the stuck ring and the discoloration on the piston skirt are signs of probable overheating.

My question is what were they running that thing on gas or wood ash I mean I've seen some bad carbon in my day but never anything like that it looks like and this is just from my experience but the only way I can see anything like that happening is if it's run without a air filter for a long period of time near some place that deals with a lot of sawdust or wood ash or really anything like that even if it was a lawn mower at some point and was just continuously munching on grass

Once you do this type of stuff more than 5 times (small engines) you can pretty much just look at a particular nut or bolt and know exactly where it goes. Even if you've only worked on one small engine ever multiple times if you've torn it down to the block you will always remember where everything goes. I even have memory affected by my epilepsy so it is pretty easy. Don't even lay mine out anymore just throw them in a pile while I'm working. Lol
The yellow staining is from the oil. Full synthetic oils do this if the engine is not run for long periods of time when running. The red on the pistons is a coating. To help the piston move in the bore easier. You can see where it's been worn off on the skirts of the piston.
Small engine rebuilder here. As long as the bolts are all the same length then I don’t think it really matters. They don’t stretch out like on car engines because they’re not torqued no where near as much.
This is great ! I'm restoring exact the same engine right now. You might be able to help me out with something ... My engine has no contact breaker, but was equipped with a CDI. (electronic ignition component), and I don't have spark. Coil is replaced, condensor, CDI and spark plug also. primary coil wire is connected to condensor, CDI and kill switch (which is tested), but still no spark ... I'm wondering what I could have done wrong... Anyone with ideas, feel free to respond !
I do not think it overheated but I can't be sure unless I can get a good look at the cylinder walls to see for any discoloring however that would have to be done after a very slate honing to take off the very surface to see the true extent of any damage that may be there and due to the fact that the bearing journals do not seem to be discolored indicates that it was not overheated I really think it was just run with a lot of dirty fuel and I mean really dirty fuel like varnish that's what happened most likely
I don't think the engine overheated,I bet it ran with old oil for a long long time. that yellowness inside the engine is quite common in old engines even if oil been changed at right interval.. Nice work on the resto. We're do u get the decals from?
That appears to be a "kool-bore" aluminum block, those really shouldn't be honed due to the "glossy" looking surface being what seals against the piston rings, it did look like where were a few deep scores, so probably better to hone this one in particular, but the "kool-bore" blocks in general should not be honed.

The parts sounds lake a Church bell wen you take hoven parts 😂😂
can anyone tell me where the other end of this 39:39 need to be attracted ?
That is the breather pipe, it goes into the air filter assembly. Some engines just have them dangling, like Briggs and Stratton.
How do you know eyeball was a winner. Point gap also effects timing on those.
It does not affect timing, timing is set by the key in the flywheel, and these engines do not have any timing adjustments.

Generally staining inside the engine is from not changing the oil regularly.
I would buy a set of those gas can / fan shroud decals if they were sold (G200 resto for me).
