    Working as a mechanic:
Step #1: Check if gravity works by dropping something.
    Step #2: Check it again.
    Step#3: Are you sure ?

Say Wes, I can say without a doubt that you have saved this tree mulcher guy hundreds of dollars. To have this much hodge podge electrical and running gear problems, had he tried to just run this truck he would have lost half his workers and his business if you had not done what you did. This can make or break a small business, thank you for your caring work. He also would have without the heater have been unable to drive in this truck or start it.

This truck is a good example of why I've been trying to make sure my daughter has some working knowledge of auto mechanics. There are many good mechanics out there like you, Wes. There are also many jacka$$ mechanics out there who are high, stoned, drunk, don't care, and/or will actively try to cheat you while ruining your vehicle. You need to know enough to know the difference. Good mechanics come up with workmanlike solutions when they can't get the factory solution, they put things back together properly and button things up.

  • @bettingru

Problem with those old Asplundh built "crew trucks" is that the tree trimmers had to fend for themselves, make their own repairs to get to the next job or home, and they got small bonuses when they kept their crew's costs down. Next generation: You can't imagine the pressure on these guys working for a tree service that can only afford to buy used equipment.

The Hallmark of most indie small-time tree services is that they're running Asplundh hand-me-downs, usually still painted orange, and usually in various stages of falling apart at the seams 😁 my dad started his tree business using a chipper truck much like this and a bucket truck he cobbed together himself using components from at least 3 80s vintage Chevrolet medium duty trucks

The local landscape crews will use the bunk space so that they can send 3-4 guys along to a job with chainsaws, pruning hooks and the like.
The high-speed bunks have an inverter so the microwave can be plugged in for lunch. Heaters in the bunks not much of an issue here in TX, but add-on a/c is pretty common.
For Volume One, this was a great video.

So, this is all good. Unfortunately we opened up... a 'Pandora's Box' here".

Nice job Wes. While I know you say you can't make this stuff up, you're not - it's real life. And, it's educational and enjoyable watching you bring the soon to be dearly departed back to life. Only to erode on our Illinois roads.....

The key word is "Auction". I track some pick-ups at local auctions and they are going for crazy money(at least I think so) for a vehicle you can only look at and, not drive and perhaps if lucky start the engine. I hear it's tied to COVID and the current lack of new inventory. Hope your customer got it for a very good price to offset your bill!! But we YT fans all win by getting too Watch Wes Work and hear classic "Wesisim's"

Usually, wiring bodges like that make perfect sense to the guy who did them. In this case, maybe not so much. There are times when cutting the whole, sorry, dangerous mess out and starting afresh just can't make things any worse. Pass the cutters please somebody.😁
Looking forward to the rest of the series Wes, especially the shelves.👍
    Cheers for now,🍻

I actually have found a speed connect on the mixer door and pulled a 12 gauge shotgun shell out of a z28 heater box. lol it was back in the 80s cocaine wars days.
I had a trucking company and only 1 truck had a block heater and I bought that truck in illinois.

Its actually not too bad to ride in the "man cab" as we call it in the tree business. Most of the time nobody rode in ours, it just doubled as a place to put saws that wouldn't fit in the storage boxes on the side, but the seat is useful as it opens up and makes a great place to put all the rigging stuff. Cool that it's got a Cummins in it. Our old truck was like the last one you worked on with at big p.o.s. gas boat anchor of a motor. I'll be here for part 2 of this adventure 😁👍
