Believe it or not Canute's speech about the waves has some historical basis, although the speech was given under different circumstances.

Vikings are people that would never be allowed into God's heaven. According to Christianity as Canute understands it, people like that have failed God's test and they've essentially been abandoned by him. This idea of creating paradise on earth for those whom God does not love is such a new concept, I don't think I've ever seen this reasoning for conquest appear in any other book or movie, it's a shitty justification as Einar points out, but it's still so compelling. Canute almost makes his violence sound humane and logical.

This is what Thors was talking about. he wasn't religious but his words was righteous. from Ashkalaad's pet to his own man. ugh I love Thorfinn and beauty is right, its pretty cool seeing his arch. it also feels good. he been through so much.

The part of him commanding the waves has been taken out of context in history. The main belief was that he wanted to show his people that he wasn't a god and that his power was limited. He could not even stop the tides of the ocean.

I mean this is not a historically accurate show, Yukimura just uses historical figures
