Predator 2 really did add to the lore of the predator. Earlier in the movie the predator wont kill the boy in the cemetery because his gun was a toy. A non-combatant. In this scene, the elder predator rewards Harrigan with a trophy. He won the hunt of sorts. While the Predator keeps skulls as trophies he gives him an old musket as his reward. Also, nice touch that elder predator turns around, at first, to walk away but decides to give him said musket trophy. Good writing.
In fact, this predator who gives him the trophy was a personal friend of the predator who died! Then he spends several minutes in disbelief at what happened, trying to absorb the fact... In the end, he decided to give the trophy to the man who killed his friend, a strange attitude for us, but totally understandable in their culture! They remind me a lot of the Klingons from Star Trek!
Yeah but harrigan is now marked for death like dutch for beating the city hunter. The predator home world now consider dutch and harrigan to be the ultimate hunt for a predator!
If I remember correctly reading online, the predators were actually planning on stopping the city hunter predator themselves because he was killing too many people.
I saw this in the theater when it came out and we completely lost our shit when the Lost Tribe appeared. Up to this point we always thought the Predators were solitary hunters but this scene introduced us to a whole TRIBE of them! This movie did so much to expand on the mythos of the predators, it really deserves more credit.
*Listen, based solely on the "Predator" movies, everyone knows the Predator can hunt & do great destruction to its enemies / preys all by himself, but analytically since they have a father & a mother, they (just like you) grown-up in a family, therefore naturally it's only logical that they can live | exist | hunt etc in a group too.*

The fact that the Predator gave him something he's had on him for almost 300 years makes this scene pretty deep. He was like smiling the whole time too. I wonder who that badass was back in 1715.

Its raphael adolimi predator chalenge raphael becouse of his good skill but some enemy shot raphael in the back and raphael gave his gun to the predator and said take it for more info search it
A dying pirate was the one who gave him the gun. The predator and the pirate were going to fight but the pirate was shot in the back by a coward and mortally wounded. Predators take opportunities to fight individuals they deem worthy in fair and honorable combat very seriously. As you can imagine this pissed the predator off immensely because it had been denied fair and honorable combat, so the coward was very quickly killed. The pirate and predator had developed respect for one another, so before he died the pirate presented his personal pistol to the predator and said only one line that the predator repeats here - "Take it."
For the people who came here after prey, the comics explain where the pistol came from. “Landing on a small island, Raphael was forced to deal with his mutinous crew after a dispute regarding stolen treasure. Whilst defending himself from his men, the Elder Predator, Greyback emerged and joined the slaughter. Initially attacking Raphael, the latter briefly joined forces with the creature to dispatch the attackers back-to-back. With the crew dead, Adolini prepared to face off against Greyback, before a straggler shot him in the back. Mortally wounded, he gifted the Yautja with his personal flintlock pistol before dying. Greyback proceeded to bury Adoloni out of respect before leaving Earth.”

I really don't understand why people didn't like this Predator movie. I'd say it was decent. Danny Glover did an amazing job here. His acting was excellent.
1:07 One of my favorite details is how the elder almost walks off before changing his mind and acknowledging to himself that Harrigan truly does deserve a trophy for his accomplishment. He hunted down and successfully killed a predator on his own, and according to their code, he earned a prize. I especially love that Harrigan doesn’t reject the reward, and you can see him appreciating it in the next scene 😂

This is one of the greatest films ever made. I don't care what anyone says. People who lack vision fail to see how artistically amazing and far ahead of it's time this movie is.
I don't know about it being one of the greatest films ever, but it's definitely gold for sure. I saw the reviews online years ago giving it a 3/5, and after having just watched it myself, I'm scratching my head over that one. I say it deserves an 8 or a 9 out of 10! I kinda thought Mike's friends had their deaths somewhat rushed, but that's in line with the original, and it's the only potential narrative flaw I could see.
I'm still surprised to this day that this sequel didn't get more recognition. I thought it was far darker than the original but the score and expansion of the Predator mythology was terrific IMO. No way you'd get a violent sequel like this today.
which is why this movie is the best sequel in this franchise. had watched both "Predators" and "The Predator", and while they're both entertaining to a certain extent, they just didn't have the heart-and-soul that "Predator 2" had. can't comment on "Prey" yet, since I haven't checked it out yet
This is what made the Predators so awesome for me. The sense of honor, being able to acknowledge a proven hunter, and rewarding such skill and bravery with a timeless treasure given to them as a gift. Plus, they kill mothafuckin' Aliens!
Impressive: The music and the slow parade past the head Predator...had a very natural, tribal feel. The chanting, within the music was so well placed/timed...REALLY well done.
Key point for the Predator timelines. This was the first time that a Yautja had been defeated by a human in direct hand-to-hand combat. Also, the first time one had been tracked back to his ship by a human hunter. This is directly after a Yautja had been forced to suicide after being bested in a fight (Predator 1). While humans had been known as challenging prey in the past due to our cunning, we had unfortunately been degrading in quality as prey. Those two hunts propelled humanity back to the top of the soft meat prey category.
Great points my man. This is why I find Predator 2 to be superior than the first because it expands on that lore. Danny Glover not only pursues the city hunter for miles but fights one in hand to hand, survives and kills it all while being mentally and physically exhausted at this point.
@@Lestat21500 My friend here are some facts wether you like it or not; 1.This officer harrigan did not track the predator, there was a team led by keys from US air force that was tracking the predator. 2.The predator was intentionally leading harrigan to the final battle ground after the train massacre. This is evident where you can see him wait for harrigan to spot him on top of buildings then move to a certain direction. The objective was to have the cop in one on one where the predator has advantage. 3.The UV rays that was installed in the slaughter house by the tracking team turned out to be the game changer exposing the predator. 4.The predator that HARRIGAN was fighting was an armature not blooded.

Not bloodthirsty those are the bad bloods the renegades that are kill addicted and don't care about honor they only care about killing as much as possible damn how they'll do it. Yautja society is extremely honor driven, and once you betray the code you'll either get killed or commit suicide. If you flee you become a bad blood and get hunted by Enforcers which are pretty much their super cops.
Like in the Samurai culture, it is considered the ultimate defeat of an opponent (and slap in the face) to be defeated not only by a lesser opponent, but by your OWN weapon. If you could not hold on to your weapon, you were not worthy of living. Same for the Predator, Harrigan beat the city hunter with his OWN weapon. That to the elder was worthy of respect and a token of that respect was his prized flintlock pistol. He didn't live 300 years or more and through endless hunts to be a cheat and certainly not obviously his clan's leader as the other Predators moved towards him in a respectful manner with a slight nod of permission to leave his presence.
@@deathstrike did you ever hear the story of how he got that flintlock pistol? He was on a hunt on Earth, and came across the man who he was there to hunt in the first place: a pirate captain, a fierce warrior who nobody in their right mind crossed. The two were getting ready to enter hand to hand combat, when they were ambushed on all sides by a large mercenary party, there to claim the bounty on the pirate captain. It became clear very quickly the two had to work together to defeat this threat, or both of them would die. So the Predator chief and pirate captain fought side-by-side to defeat the mercenaries. When it was all said and done, the two prepared once again to enter one on one combat. Before this could happen, one of The mercenaries raised up from the ground and shot the pirate through the back. The predator quickly killed this mercenary, but the wound was fatal to the pirate. The dying pirate looked at the Predator, took his prized pistol & tossed it to the Predator. "Take it" he says in a raspy voice, then dies.
@@Brianna-ys7qp I have read that story and it is a good example of who or what is deemed worthy in honorable combat. That pistol is not only priceless, it was a nod to both the Predator's foes for their ingenuity and courage. Like Achilles said to Hector "you gave the boy the honor of your sword". So the Predator gave the honor of his clan to Harrigan.
@@deathstrike he must have really thought highly of the pirate captain to have kept his pistol as a prized possession for nearly 300 years, despite the fact that this was a failed hunt for him. For sure, that shows how much respect he had a for Harrigan after he defeated the Predator that had targeted him. They live in a society that is dictated by Honor. Whether one is a Yautcha, human, or something else, bravery and skill command respect. I really like that about them.
This is an Epic scene; were the elder rewards the human for defeating one of his own warriors in battle. This is an honorable gesture by the Grand Elder himself! Awesome clip fellows! 👍
Consider that to be an Elder, that Yautja had to cleanse an entire Xenomorph (Alien from the Aliens franchise) Hive with no more than 2 helpers and bring back a Queen's skull as proof. Harrigan got respect from someone with that level of being a badass!!
I liked the gift of the spear given to the girl in AVP1 Shame she wasn't allowed to keep it as its shown in the display cabinet at Project Stargazer in the last Predator!

I also watched this movie when I was like 8 years old, definitely not made for that age category lol seeing the columbians hanging from the ceiling was disturbing lol
Predator 2 is really a gem. Different from the first but it's in a league of its own. It didn't try to remake the first like most of the sequels. No military guys but another badass played by a solid Danny Glover. It had some epic visuals, scenes (nudity, horror, violence and the gore), expanded and enriched the predator universe.. Unfortunately it's really underrated. People should learn to appreciate this movie more.
I think Greyback gave Harrigan the pistol bc he reminded him of Raphael Adolini. If you notice he was going to leave but takes a moment to turn around and stare Harrigan in the face, just before he reaches for Raphael’s pistol and hands it to him. He probably saw a resemblance and held respect for a past warrior to a current warrior who managed to defeat his own kind. If Raphael were to have fought Greyback I think Raphael would’ve won, but Greyback will never know the outcome bc he was robbed of his challenge. Giving Harrigan the pistol was him letting go of the past while simultaneously showing great honor to Harrigan
Raphael would have died were it not for Greyback helping him, and still died even after. How do you figure he'd be able to beat a Predator in melee combat?
I have seen "Predator 2" like 50 times since my childhood. Always loved it for being different, evolving the lore but still feeling like a true Predator movie. Showed the movie to a friend who liked the first one and never saw the sequel. He fell asleep 20 minutes in and after 40 minutes he turned the movie off. Something died in me that evening.

I love that PREY makes a call-forward to this moment. How it winds up in the hands of the Hunters after Naru gained possession of it is up for the audience to decide, but the fact that it ties the film into Predator 2, a movie that doesn't get as much recognition compared to the other entries in the series, was a pleasant surprise. It also gives even more impact and credence to Harrigan's final line in the film as well, knowing what we know now. They will, indeed, be back.
If another predator managed to hunt Naru, it must have been a memorable hunt for the predator to keep the trophy for almost 300 years. Maybe it was Greyback (hunter who gives the gun) tho i dunno how long predators live.
The predator from Prey seem to be one of the bad bloods (super predators) from Predators the other warring factions on their homeworld. I figured cause Prey predator came there by itself while in the end credits three other ships approach would figure that are the typical predators we know wanting to see what could have killed one of their rivals or the bad bloods themselves coming for payback. In the eyes of the Predators, they are the ultimate hunters and a member of the apex race doesn't "lose". The ultimate shame for a Predator is to die while their prey lives.

Harrigan learns how to use the Yautja's own weapons against it and learns quickly. Obviously if Harrigan didn't have the disc he probably wouldn't have survived. I'm just impressed Harrigan was able to go toe to toe with a predator in melee combat. And like others have said, Danny Glover does a fantastic job in this final scene showing how drained he is but is just filled with anger from the loss of his best buddy and that's what drove him to pursue the City Hunter and ultimately kill it with its own weapon.

It's 2022 august and still this scene gives me goosebumps. Predator 1, Predator 2 and Prey are the true cannon. This movie up to this point deserves ovation. These where the golden days where story telling was way up there. The franchise needs a new crew of writers and scenes on the aliens universe. No. The writing was terrible for Predator 2. I still like the movie, dont get me wrong. But it has awful writing, the plot doesn't make sense, the acting is atrocious, tons of cheesy one-liners, pointless gratuitous nudity (not that I mind, but it's still a common tactic used to help shield a crappy storyline), etc. The costume, makeup, & special effects tho are incredible. Still an underrated classic 90s B-rate sci-fi action flick, imo. Most sci-fi action movies in the 80s & 90s were like this. Nostalgia is a hellava drug. Iconic ending! While Predator (1987) has gone on to be recognized as a straight up classic and is definitely the better movie, I’d argue that Predator 2 was a good sequel that was groundbreaking in its own way. 👍 I know that Danny Glover’s character DOES show up again in a Predator short story collection, but it would’ve been great to see him on the big screen again. Mike Harrigan was awesome!
"Ok, whois' next?" Lead Predator: "Shit he's looking right at me" [looks to the right[ "Hey Steve you go" Steve: "Nah, fuck that, Jeff you fight him" Jeff: "No way man! This guy is crazy. Look at what he did to John" Two other predators: "Let's just take John's body and get out of here before we get put up to it".
Greyback respected him. Last person to get respect from Greyback was a pirate captain in the comics who got retconned by the movie Prey (as seen with the pistol trophy). Harrigan was GOATed.
+Batesmotel1960 Would've been just a bit better if he'd held up the blade while saying it, just to make it clear he just did what could be considered the impossible.
+sonrouge trust me after going trough hell just to kill one single predator and almost loosing your life to a terrifying beast and suddenly out of nowhere you see this whole clan appears and a pissed elder looking at you dead at the eyes like you may killed one of my young ones but I don't fuck around trust me bro you shit your pants and drop that blade in seconds from instant froze fear lol
Awan Biru the pistol belonged to the pirate captain Raphael Adolini, which is documented in the Dark Horse comic Predator: 1718. The story goes that Adolini faced mutiny by his crew and attacked him. Outnumbered, he fought bravely but was no match. From the distance, a young Predator watched, and was impressed by Adolini's courage to keep fighting depsite the odds. Seeing Adolini was worthy, the Predator joined in and fought back to back with Adolini, defeating his entire crew, except he missed one who suddenly shoots him in the back. Dying, Adolini gives his pistol to the young Predator and simply says "take it...". Many years later that same Predator, now an old greyback, is once again impressed at the bravery of another human in the face of being outnumbered. Good comic, if you can find it
Predator 2 really did add to the lore of the predator.
He gives Harrigan a nice retirement. Gotta be worth over a million at auction.
As a kid, I always imagined that the movement of the shoulder cannon was the guns way of saying, "Go on, give him the muskett" 😂
Did you saw "Prey"? Watch it, the final scene may have a surprise for you

Not anymore. The comic got retconned.

That might be what convinced the bad bloods from Predators to start kidnapping people to the hunting grounds.
Great points my man. This is why I find Predator 2 to be superior than the first because it expands on that lore. Danny Glover not only pursues the city hunter for miles but fights one in hand to hand, survives and kills it all while being mentally and physically exhausted at this point.
@@Lestat21500 My friend here are some facts wether you like it or not;

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So the Predator gave the honor of his clan to Harrigan.
@@deathstrike he must have really thought highly of the pirate captain to have kept his pistol as a prized possession for nearly 300 years, despite the fact that this was a failed hunt for him.

The predator from Prey seem to be one of the bad bloods (super predators) from Predators the other warring factions on their homeworld. I figured cause Prey predator came there by itself while in the end credits three other ships approach would figure that are the typical predators we know wanting to see what could have killed one of their rivals or the bad bloods themselves coming for payback. Again interested to see where it takes but will always remember the OG dark horse comic that this pistol backstory was originally.
everyone can buy that a middle age cop in california with zero hand to hand combat can take on a predetor on its own ship and win yet when a character is showned to learn and grow and out smart the predetor everyone calls that unrealistic. lol
@@ibah6 also take into account the body difference one is a small person the other a large grown man. It's been set up from the first predator movie that even the strongest men Dutch struggled against the Predators. How can a small person have a shot even with prep time lest we forget Dutch had prep time and almost lost, it was only due to the Predators ego that he won but barley.
I think it would have been better if her and her brother took it down she represents the brain and him the brawns cause he even said she sees things he doesn't. Would have been easier to accept them a small person overtaking a predator just cause plot.
While Predator 1 was a classic, iconic film, this sequel was rather solid despite of the bad reviews, and definitely second best in the series so far
Predator 2 actually became a classic and did well with time and the critics were idiots acting all high minded as if this film was supposed to be like "Gone with the Wind" or something like that. It's stunningly beautiful as was AVP 2004.. Prey is nowhere near as good as these films if you haven't seen it but it's ok and nothing else with very weak CGI.
Look at all those amazing suits and props. They made all of those just to have them on screen for one minute. The amount of dedication to do that is something I can respect about that one scene. Movie is still great overall.
Seeing this scene as a kid back in the 90s was wild!
Just gotta love the way the rest of the clan stands there firmly and not even make a sound then carry away the City Hunter. Shows the level of honour and respect they have towards Harrigan.
Why did the predators bother to put their cloaks back on?
Predator 1: "Okay guys, we got the dead hunter, now let's start up the ship and get off this planet."
Predator 2: "Yeah! But let's operate the controls while we're invisible!"
Predator 1: "...You're fucking weird, man. But alright."
whateverdudezb i think its a thing about them keeping themselves sacred to strangers eyes or humans they respect their culture so much they dont want humans to get a hold of them or their tech thats why they self destruct when they see they about to loose to the opponent
To show respecto to the elder
@@adriel88_ I'm necro'ing an old as fuck comment, but I'd just like to point out that Predators don't self destruct to keep others from having their technology. They self-destruct when they are about to lose because losing is the ultimate shame in a society built around the idea that every member must be a blooded apex hunter. In the eyes of the Predators, they are the ultimate hunters and a member of the apex race doesn't "lose". The ultimate shame for a Predator is to die while their prey lives.
I had wondered. Before they were observing unnoticed...but now they're just walking around the corner to leave.
Probably just for audience entertainment. I do like the effect.

The vintage pistol this Predator having an arm sliced off prequel to Prey is unbelievable plus these Predators have a code of honour.
Fun fact: when it comes to predators the older ones are the most dangerous. They can live for centuries and have centuries of experience hunting more tools than younger predators. The leader of this group is one of the older ones
Reminds me off the quote fear the old man in a profession where men die young. Yautja can easily become a 1000 which means you survived countless hunts. Their Elders and Ancients are extremely skilled.
So means, if I try a "hariggan" play weak n sudden lowblow" attempt, it won't work on an Elder?🤔
Also, consider that to attain the rank of an Elite Hunter which the Clan Leaders for the Yautja are drawn from, they must brave a Xenomorph Hive with no more than two helpers and bring back the Queen's Skull as a trophy. This elder Yautja is probably more badass than any 3 or 4 Hunters in the room put together on his bad days.
That and Predators aren't affected by age as much as humans are.
(Predators appear and take the dead predator away)

You, sir, are great.
With one moment when the ancient Greyback Predator threw the old pistol to Mike could've set off a whole slew of Predator prequel spin-offs set before the original film. Imagine a Predator film set during the Spanish-American War, during WW1 or WW2, etc. There's so many possibilities that don't clash with the original film.... instead we got Shane Black's The Predator WHICH SUCKS HARD... Seriously, we need to go back to basics and just have the hunt. No twists, no turns, just classic hunts. Greyback Predator was the key to this franchise.
There was going to be a movie about the Gun, but it got turned into a comic.
But at least we got Predators, which is a film I love.

You can hear Greyback say “Angel” after Harrigan reads out the year on the flintlock. That’s featured in the dark horse comic that tells the story of Raphael Andolini and Golden Angel which is greyback himself all those years ago. I love this movie and this scene! ❤
Idk if he said "angel", I think it was probably some sort of old grumbling predator dad noise of sorts. Ya know, it's funny the more I repay it it sounds like after harrigan reads out "1715" greyback says "yessir" as he walks off lol. To each their own
Greyback was referring to the man that he helped and the man gave him the gun while he was dying from his wounds, it was his friend.

While instead of just finishing him off, instead the predator raises his hand insanely high saying “stab me! I’m leaving myself open!”

I think that this is the absolute best scene in any Predator movie. Always gave me chills. As a young teenager, I loved this film based on this ending alone, because it was the first hint at the shared AvP Uuniverse from the comics (the xenomorph skull on the wall) and the fact that we actually saw 9 other Predators at the end....and the gun trophy is just the capper on a great scene.
I saw this on opening night in my little local theater in TN. The audience almost lost it when all those Predators uncloaked. So did I. I don't give a shit what anyone says, Predator 2 is a more than worthy sequel.

I think the predator respects the human species more than any enemy they ever faced...they went from hunting humans for sport to hunting humans for knowledge and to learn more and evolve...amazing creatures...i love the alien series but the predator is the ultimate hunter..
Well, the aliens are just here to repopulate themselves via human host or whatever, they are not hunters but more like colonizers.
The urban Predator was younger and bolder than his jungle-based predecessor, taking greater risks and showing off. He was more a daredevil warrior than a thrill-kill assassin.
He was a city hunter Pred

Predator 2 is underated, this is my favorite predator movie, of course not as good as the first but it adds AWESOME lore to the predator
A perfect leader. He covered the retreat and honored the victor.

+bobshiggelgras what? This was a standalone movie?
The gun is NOT a reference.
The comic references the film. Not the other way around.
OpenMawProductions yep that comic was made up I dont consider it cannon so who knows how he got that pistol maybe he killed adolini 😂😂😂
Adriel Omar Díaz the comic was meant to be Predator 3, that's why the writers put the gun in the film because they wanted the sequel to be about how the gun came about. But because Predator 3 never happened they turned the idea into a comic instead.

It's a great franchise with a good future if it lands on the hands of good directors and writers. We have the tech to do anything we want but stories requires THINKING.
Outstanding movie as usual. This never gets old. I hope there is a remastering and revision of this movie with current special effects.
Sorry but Prey is overated af. Bad acting, horrible cgi, inconsistent suspense.
Prey? Puhlease...Feminist drivel....A 105 pound girl defeats five full grown adult males, AT THE SAME TIME? Too unbelievable....It was an average movie at best, it was trying to push more woke 'women power' nonsense instead of a good solid Predator movie....You need your art spoon fed to you son...
Didn’t like prey
Everything that came from your childhood is always gonna seem better, bc a child has no responsibilities, & sees the world through rose tinted glasses, so everything period seems better when you're a child, it creates unfair biases. If this movie came out today the same ppl praising it, would hate it.

@@KaraokeNig well he says "engine" at the end and City hunter seem to know how to use human language in the proper context so I think is possible that the whole tribe knew human language thanks to their elder.
The predators had honor, brother, something that is lacking today, respecting the opponent who destroyed their allies is incredible
I love that any of them could kill him whenever they like, but they just ignore him and let him live. It is one of the few times when ignoring someone is as sign of respect. They obviously recognize that Harrigan is a warrior and a worthy warrior according to their code. Their elder deals with him by tossing him an antique (which is obviously fairly valuable) as a sign of grudging respect.
The city hunter was watching harrigan ever since the first city battle at the beginning of the film. It watched him kill 5 humans with his shotty and probably figured..."yeah i'm going to do some recon on this human. It's good." And so the city hunter does recon on harrigan throughout the film. Such a fantastic film.
City Hunter: "Imma go hunting. See you guys in a bit."
Greyback and other Predators: "So you expect us to wait in the car while you go and have fun? Sounds good - bring back lots of trophies!"
City Hunter: "Will do!"

That's a pistol, not a musket.
That pistol was given to grey back aka golden angel when he versed a Spanish captain who he was going to fight but the captain got shot in the back by one of his goons. So the predator shot the goon in the back killing him. With the captain last breath he takes out his necklace cross and pistol and tells the predator to take it. And in return the predator buried the captain and gave him his bone necklace and sword

Billy in the first Predator may have been a descendant of Naru or someone in her tribe and more than likely had an idea of what was hunting them. At least it in my headcanon anyways. Maybe she gave the Yautja clan the gun to avoid any bloodshed and they gave her a gift in return.
