How the heck does this film still look better than most films today? It’s a masterpiece.
Because the idea and the work behind it were good. Not only bag of money for a cheap effects. Predator rules.
Better than most marvel movies
They’re a rescue team, not assassins!
They didn't have green screens back then and used actual environments for shots.
Because :
1. The idea still fresh at that time. Still few film offering similar concept.
2. People in the old days tend to appreciate the movie they had watched, regardless its flaw. When they don't like it, they leave it.
But today, people who don't like particular movie would spread critics and hatred to other audiences, with intention to bail that movie out.
Hence they put filming industries in general into dilemma & unhealthy struggle.
A movie made in 1987 rivals and beats 99.9% of movies made today in 2022. A damn masterpiece worthy of greatness.
The art of moviemaking seems to have peaked in the 80s or 90s...
And yeah, Predator STILL works.

Still the best Predator movie to date. No it’s not nostalgia. This Predator was terrifying. It was realistic, no CGI. This was a horror movie more than an action movie. Everybody felt helpless and that’s what made this movie great.

I still remember the feeling when I was watching this for the first time 30 years ago. I was scared shitless.
Especially the moment when they show us a hand of the predator holding a scorpion, in his infra-red vision. And you then understand it's no human... But *what* it is, you still don't know. Daaamn 😵
No shaking camera on the action scenes. Practical effects. Great script. Actors and production on point. Fantastic score. All comes together to create a cinema masterpiece. 💪💪💪

There's so many stories of the nightmare production during the jungle shoots, but in the end, was so worth it. As the original Predator stands tall, no sequels or remakes have came close .

Yeah, even after Prey has come out I still prefer Predator. Story flows much better, each character actually has personality. The brutality feels raw in Predator and has aged really well. Compared to Prey. Prey has very monotone story, characters and has too many inconsistencies that hurt the immersion of watching the movie. Prey is interesting in other areas but I’d still put Predator before it

This is an absolute classic. It has a certain mysterious quality that is lacking in the other Predator movies (except possibly the second one with Danny Glover). These creatures have been hunting man for centuries, and it takes a hunter's skill and tactics to combat them. I'll never forget watching this with my dad so many years ago. It still ranks right up there on top amongst the best sci-fi/action movies ever made in my opinion. Looking forward to the newest one (PREY), because I heard it was really good.

Like so many modern films it’s probably gonna be littered with sanctimonious lectures about identity politics.
Every man has to be portrayed as a coward, moron or a sadist in a lazy attempt to elevate the status of the main lady character.
It’s not even getting a theatrical release cos they have zero faith in it
Kevin Peter Hall was like a ballet dancer in these movies. His movements were perfect, and he definitely understood the character! I think he was the Preditor in the first 2 movies, then we lost him! He also played the part of the helicopter pilot at the end of this movie!
He was actually professionally trained in Ballet and stated he wanted the Predator to show its personality through its movement, RIP

I would have agreed as a kid but now I am sold on the original Alien. Predator is a more dynamic monster but the lore behind Alien is more intriguing in my opinion.

The guy created the Predator costume is a GENIUS. The camera shots and the music is Perfect. All the people played very well their characters. This movie is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Too much CGI and green screen these days doesn’t make you believe it.

Using an infrared camera for the Predator's vision,is what makes the Predator such a great character.
Hands down this is Arnold's best flick along with the original Terminator.

And T2 was I think exactly 10 yrs later so just in 10 yrs time the special effects & CGI evolved sooo much but it was dope how Cameron used practical along with special effects! T2 is just hands down one of the best movies of all time & I think it's the undisputed GOAT sequel in movies history!

The boys unloading there entire arsenal at the jungle remains one of the most baddass scenes of all time.

This scene where the predator came out from the water n reveal itself and also the scene when Billy decided to face the predator was 2 of my favorite scenes in this movie.. Watched this movie 30 years ago as a kid n still my favorite movie to these days, classic...
Many never thought about why a violent movie would have the main hero saying "we're a rescue team, not assassins." The Predator is about the honor of a good hunt, that line was just a foreshadowing of why he picked Dutch in first place.

I love the way the predator slowly turns his head to look at Dutch at that cocky, sideways, challenging to fight, saucy angle.
The Predator was very majestic in his bearing, in the way he carried himself. He knew he was a hunter. His movements were always complete and precise, he always took his time, and he whenever he moved to strike, he never missed. The Predator was on a safari, but Dutch threw a wrench in his ego trip by outwitting him and wounding him, so, the Predator is ready to take Dutch on in hand to hand combat. I believe the Predator challenged Dutch in this fashion to satisfy his own ego on how much of a better warrior he was. It wasn't about proving how clever Dutch was. You can see that in the way the Predator growls ferociously every time he dealt Dutch a blow as if to say," How DARE you think you are badder than me? I mean, after all, Dutch did make the predator BLEED with weapons far more primitive than his own sophisticated, advanced ones. Dutch also made himself invisible, just like the Predator did. I enjoyed this scene and watching the display of strategy against strength. The predator is playing a game. It is a deadly game,, but a game nonetheless. Dutch is fighting for his life. There's a difference when you fight for your life.

I always had the feeling that the CIA knew, after running several operations in the area, and hearing stories of a “demon that makes trophies of men” that the predator may exist, and that after general hooper’s disappearance, sent Dillion, the “expendable asset” in to investigate. It’s possible the Russians heard about the predator as well, well before Dutch and his team arrived.

@@darania1 I had always heard the Dulce base was a joint human/reptilian bioengineering facility using ancient reptilian caverns we modernized. The war was involving a rogue special forces unit that went in to rescue civilians held captive. Real or not, it’s the type of “true” science fiction that goes back to The Shaver Mystery in the 1940s. I always loved that kind of stuff.

Predator is the most classic 80s sci-fi action film. These 80's sci-fi action films were the best cause they were original and creative at the time of there release and have become classics today.
I very distincly remember my dad bringing this movie home from blockbuster. I remember seeing the title and thinking it was some sort of animal movie. The opening scene let me know i was wrong. The predator coming out of the water is awesome. It ranks just behind the firing line as the best scene in the franchise. Why TF can't they make a good Predator or Alien movie anymore? It's been trash since 1986/1987.
It comes down to demographics. The only profitable audience that attends films now is 14 year olds in the US and China. It's not that they can't make movies like this anymore, it just doesn't pay the bills.

Couldn't agree more. My dad bought this in those VCR tapes back then too. He would go on and on about it before the movie even started. I thought it was just another Action Syfy movie until it all started! Kept me on my toes every second until the end. After that it became my favorite film till date. Just as my dad I'd go on and on about it . I saw this film about a 100 times as a kid . Not even the newest predator film could beat this masterpiece. All the rest of the movies were shit after this

I saw this film as a child back in 1987 and it terrified me, the look of the predator, the setting, how it goes invisible and when u look thru its eyes, plus the sounds it makes, if ever im in a forest or even if i have a bad dream its in my head, shows how fab this film was!

I was randomly flipping through channels and stumbled on this on daytime tv as a kid. It just kept getting better and better. I stuck around for the commercials with suspense and was like, woah, this is top notch.

The fear in Arnold's eyes when the predator dropped in the water chasing him. This movie can't be matched by any sequel.

Fun fact: the movie slowed down/heavily spliced the clips for the mini gun. Under true firing rate a well buffed up soldier would still not be able to carry the weight of the gun with more than 3 seconds of ammo. How shitty that Kevin Peter Hall the guy who played the Predator dies of Aids due to an injection with a dirty needle. Talk about medical mal-practice. Seems like he was a really good guy. They said, "all during shooting the film with the heavy/hot costume he never once complained". He's the chopper pilot at the end of the movie.
