They are trying their hardest to get it a thing over here too!
That's why so many of us are adamantly opposed to a cash-less society/market. I don't use cash nearly as much as I use cards, but the fact that an all-digital economy is so easy to "un-person" someone is scary.
I love Joe so much because he gets the information out there. It's a public service!I learned more about covid during the lock downs and how to take care of your body from a virologist he had on in comparison to anything I heard from the main stream media during that same time.
I think Joe has good intentions, but in some cases he tends to not be informed enough on what hes talking about and winds up fear mongering of inadvertently spreading misinformation. With this example in particular some of what hes saying regarding privacy policy isnt correct or is unintentionally misleading.

As a software developer previously working on user-centric online platforms/products, the list of data you listed is incredibly common. Any person on a team with the right access rights can query the production database and can easily find out where you live, last few devices you used and IP addresses you connected from.
Safe to say almost all social media apps we use today do this... but this is of apparent special attention, due to it being backed by the Chinese government. Adding to this data issue, the American government spies on their own people too! Joe did multiple podcasts on it. The accessibility to data any government in the world has is incredible.

American, Japanese, Taiwanese governments are more or less transparent because they are Democracy. But in the case of China nothing is transparent, so risk factor is significantly higher.
The online shopping example that Theo mentioned is already happening on Amazon. At least as far as companies being circumvented and/or fraudulent by claiming they’re in US but the product received is from China and either not as described or flat-out just something totally random & bazar

@Vindaloo no. If all your kids friends were jumping off a cliff would you just be ok with it? I wouldn't let my kids have technology (computer, tablet, phone etc) at all, personally. The people that created this shit and make their living off of it have pretty much all stated publicly that they don't let their kids on it at all. That should be all folks need to know to make a real decision. It's really just lazy parenting to let your kids do what everyone else is doing, and it's how we've gotten into such a shitty position as a society, folks just going along with whatever they are handed instead of thinking for themselves and recognizing how shitty "mainstream" society is. If more folks would recognize this we could actually shift things.
@Vindaloo Not if the candy store had a number of risks for harm, and the risks far outweighed any potential benefit, no. We don’t allow our 14 y/o to use social media. Her friends all do. When she’s 16 we’ll revisit it. For now, the risks are too great and maturity isn’t quite there.

People really underestimate how much you can do with enough data on a person. First of all, think of ALL the things you've searched. It could be medical conditions, curiosities, sexual interests, whatever. That's one thing they would snatch up. Next, there's a common use for big data, that is to combined all data on you to make a profile, like a digital version of everything you think, do, want etc. Major corporations usually use that for advertising (Let's put aside the morality of that for now). Now, all that data tracking everything about you, knowing how to make you tick, how to play into your fears, what you want to hear, what you don't... ALL of that can be used to create algorithms. Those algorithms will then be used to MANIPULATE you in every way in everything you do. Most people have NO clue just how much manipulation they are exposed to on a daily basis. And to think of that being in the hands of an authoritarian regime, whose stated goals are to control everything and everyone. To overwhelm the democratic countries and to extend their ideas and authority into the world. THAT IS FUCKING FRIGHTENING.
Not just TikTok but all social media can change your mood, thoughts, beliefs, ideals, etc by what it feeds you. I believe the biggest effect is distraction…
Very true. Sadly Google has already been doing it for our own government, for years. One of the founders tried to cover up the fact that they can track every search made, for years. Long enough that when it was revealed, no one cared.
I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as the next guy but to me TikToc just seems like a bunch of THOTs dancing like strippers. Being hot is not a talent. I scrolled through looking for cool content and 70 percent of the submissions were girls dancing. I wanted a talent show but got a pg rated strip club. Do you have any idea how many "front" corporations US agencies have in other countries, including China??? DARPA/CIA created the internet. They created all of the social media platforms including Google, Instagram, Alphabet, etc., Amazon & more to surveil and manipulate the public. Of course they want ALL of our data in order to target citizens who resist the tyranny of the federal puppets put in charge by the corporate/banking elites. China, nor Russia is an enemy. In fact, they collaborate with the US to profit the elites and politicians along with the countless private corporations and banks profiting from weaponizing viruses/pathogens, drugs, vaccines, the highly toxic 5G proliferation, as well as those who are part of the military industrial complex. ALL media is controlled by agencies. While this site does provide accurate information, the bigger picture is never addressed; thus, this is controlled opposition like Project Veritas and others. Meanwhile, as they collect data, they continue whitewashing or deleting sites with evidence of crimes against humanity involving US govt while funding fake "documentaries", websites, and mainstream media to push their lies and propaganda. Considering the trail of bodies (researchers, doctors, witnesses, victims, reporters/journalists, mil personnel, whistleblowers, etc.), it is also much safer for Roman to stick to the narrative.
Same. Truly a genuine person and naturally funny storyteller. I will never forget the time he told the story about him locking himself out his apartment high on coke at 3/4 AM with his blender going off and him having to knock on his landlords door 😂😂
One reason for collecting this much data about every person might also have something to do with analyzing consumer patterns, the people's political orientation and for tracking movement around the country. They can analyze the population's behavior in order to do better political decisions, or if they are trying to influence the population, they can analyze the data to see if their tactic works and the list goes on. I mean, the opportunities are endless if you know that much about a country and if you can influence its population using your nicely engineered social media app that gets everyone addicted.

As a seasoned software engineer: Tik Tok is one of the absolute BEST pieces of software ever invented. It's resilient, it never goes down, there are never any issues with the app, flawless business model & it's incredibly addicting. You just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling until you find the next video that can give you that dopamine rush you're looking for. Talking from experience - this is no different than sniffing coke. Once you bag is done, you call the dealer to get another bag in order to feel that rush of dopamine that you felt when you sniffed for the first time that day. Yes, I sniff coke occasionally (not proud of it) and I'm telling you this no different from using the app. Also, just to make things clear: Tik Tok isn't the only app that steals all of your info. 99% of iOS and Android apps do the exact same thing but they're more discreet about it. The difference between those apps and Tik Tok is that Tik Tok is very addicting while the other app aren't at all which why you never hear about the other apps. IMO, Tik Tok is a very, VERY dangerous drug and it should be labeled as such. Trump did the right thing when he said he wanted to get rid of it. It's seriously damaging the development of children at a pace and at a caliber mankind has never witnessed before while the company cashes in their billions of dollars.
How do you know TikTok isn’t as invasive as it’s made out to be? Is it as invasive as Facebook was during its golden era of ads, more so, or less so? If you have the answers
It’s not just Tik Tok I believe it’s even apps made here in the U.S people just don’t read the TOS including me. There’s a reason why they make the Terms of Service and Conditions so long because nobody will think of reading it they’ll just click through it.
I read the terms of service. As a result, I don't even have banking apps. That being said, I've never had fraudulent activity on any of my payment methods. I work in billing. The number of people who have frequent fraudulent activity on their accounts is terrifying.
All apps. There is a race going on between corporations. Sorry, not race. It's a war. The war of information. It's been going on since 90s, and now it's more dangerous because now they can track everyone and anyone 24/7.
Absolutely. The money big tech makes on the actual products they sell is basically nothing compared to the money made from the data they collect. Why do you think Elon bought Twitter? He needs the data to develop his AI and he needs it uncensored.
The data they collect can also be used to reverse engineer someones 2 factor authentication. Which is especially dangerous if they target high level government employees.
I'm sure one of their main targets it trying to acquire all data on quantum computing developments and encryption considering the power and speed of such devices to process data and protect info.
what Theo is talking about when he describes the "abandoned" high rises are not actually abandoned at all but properties that were built in anticipation of high real-estate demand because owning property is one of the few things the Chinese people can do to invest into retirement. They are having a huge housing crash similar to our 2008 right now and thats why they are parking tanks in front of banks... people are trying to pull their money out and they are defaulting on loans on purpose as a means of protest. Things are getting pretty crazy over there. UA-cam tries to censor a lot of the videos about the topic or demonetize/age restrict. Keep talking about it boys :)
They over produced real estate/infrastructure to inflate their GDP and yes the investing in real estate in china is what all the rich do. It's one of the few things they have control over

Yep. My brand new $3,000 fridge lasted less than 5 years. My $1500 washer lasted less than 3. We are now using my husband's parents' old fridge that we took to put in our garage as a back up. We picked up an old kenmore washer for free that someone put out for trash. Both work fine, and I don't care that they don't look new if they effing do their job. I will not buy appliances like dime bags. I do not care if it is inconvenient or if people have an issue with it, I work too hard for my money to be made a chump by these sellouts. I hope the big brands who ran off to kiss China's ass get it all taken by the CCP, so we can start some new companies and get back to value and quality. Then they have the nerve to push this green new deal bullshit, while shipping in appliances made of dollar store plastic from a country who hates us, so they can grow the golden goose middle class they slaughtered here at home. All of them will be lucky to escape with their heads, if Americans can pull their heads out of their own retarded asses in time. Cheers!

The TOS is all the exact same across most of the apps we use. That's not by accident. Tik tok only stands out because it is a Chinese owned company but it’s a small part of the bigger picture. Tencent is behind almost every app you use, including tik tok. They are large investors/part owners in pretty much every social media app/website. Tencent is also a Chinese owned company and under chinas new laws, they must share all there information with the government. This was all part of a bigger plan. Tencent is owned by the Chinese government, Tencent monitors everything we do through every app. It’s much scarier if you really look into it.
I don't think he's blowing it out of proportion. He's scared of the slippery slope...there's a reason we value privacy. The fact that it's standard and mostly unused doesn't really address the issue...
As a developer, it’s useful to troubleshoot and diagnose issues easier. Ex, app crashes, is it device specific, how did it happen, any specific characters that we may not support or formatted correctly. I haven’t thought of any useful cases to use that data, but in malicious hands it could most definitively be used to undermine someone.

That's why so many of us are adamantly opposed to a cash-less society/market. I don't use cash nearly as much as I use cards, but the fact that an all-digital economy is so easy to "un-person" someone is scary.

As a software developer previously working on user-centric online platforms/products, the list of data you listed is incredibly common. Any person on a team with the right access rights can query the production database and can easily find out where you live, last few devices you used and IP addresses you connected from.
I find it interesting that he brought up terms and service as if all social media doesnt have the same policies
Safe to say almost all social media apps we use today do this... but this is of apparent special attention, due to it being backed by the Chinese government. Adding to this data issue, the American government spies on their own people too! Joe did multiple podcasts on it. The accessibility to data any government in the world has is incredible.

As an advertiser, it strikes me as kind of funny how people are shocked by this. TikTok may be a quarter badder than the other companies but no more than that. Facebook in the golden age had just about every major piece of data about you that you could think of, then some
Which is why that kind of data collection and usage needs to be blanket outlawed in the US.
@@heroinmom153 In the US? It needs to be outlawed everywhere! Else they can just move their servers abroad and claim that US law doesn't apply there, so if you want to do something about it, you have to firewall the American internet like China.

Problem is all Chinese companies are linked with Chinese Communist party, if Chinese govt wants they have to share their database with govt.

You nailed it. George Orwell was right. Frightening.
It’s not just China tho. Instagram,UA-cam etc are all known for their algorithms + selling data to the government etc
Not just TikTok but all social media can change your mood, thoughts, beliefs, ideals, etc by what it feeds you. I believe the biggest effect is distraction…
Basic mind control
Very true. Sadly Google has already been doing it for our own government, for years. One of the founders tried to cover up the fact that they can track every search made, for years. Long enough that when it was revealed, no one cared.

@@413. he said it “the other way around”…. sleep good tonight kiddo.

Please have one episode with an expert going over every major social medias privacy policies to expose every social medias “Privacy Policies” and explain how each is vulnerable to give everyone a chance to wake up to the freedoms they give away. It is in no way limited to TikTok unfortunately.
If they did that you'll be seeing many familiar US companies in that list. Every company that provides a "free" version tracks your info to earn from you.

there is a diffarance between the data. both USA and china uses your Data for evil but China is just the bigger evil of the two. while USA has to atleast atempt to follow human rights laws. china has no such obligation att all.
Great suggestion
@@rampage3337 what is the connection with human right laws. This is more about not letting China collect data on their people through TikTok. The US doesn't bother as long as they are the ones collecting your data.

I am always impressed, and slightly concerned, by how easily I find myself watching Reels or Shorts endlessly. I don't do TikTok, and most of the stuff seems to get put onto YT and IG anyway, but man. I go to look at my phone for like 5 minutes, all of a sudden I'm there for an hour + pissing time away. Shit is the devil lol
For sure. Not impressed tho, more like disappointed with myself lol. Im glad I came across this tho because I thought about starting a channel for the family dog, smh, I know that is pretty cliche but the dude is really such a character I can't see people NOT laughing at alot of the shit he does. Especially when compared to the other video on there lmao. But I agree, its easy to flip through them and lose track of time.💯
yeah but you learned a lot in that hour tho
There's nothing impressive about that though

@Beery Yeah that's true, good point.
Bro, access to your files? To your keystrokes and patterns? Your microphone? What other app does that?
“This report by very length defends itself from being read”

And basically any person's stock or crypto account passwords. Scary
Why would they need to target them? They are in bed with high level Government employees, they are helping the CCP to take over.
@@sarahwales6276 my point was more about the 2FA than who they were targeting.
what Theo is talking about when he describes the "abandoned" high rises are not actually abandoned at all but properties that were built in anticipation of high real-estate demand because owning property is one of the few things the Chinese people can do to invest into retirement.
The "tanks in front of banks" has been proven false by many different sources.

Not apps on F Droid.
So every app funnels your data to the PRC?
@@mhubert1778 sure, for the right money
@@IsakKazazic True that but these folks are in house.
Wrong. Not even close lol... Most apps just collect superficial data for ad purposes, they don't have fucking keyloggers and other spyware, adware, trackers or web beacons LITERALLY BUILD INTO THEM like TikTok does...
Worked for a mid sized company that had nonconsumer operations in China. Even our stuff was fully replicated for purchase on Chinese websites. Stuff you just wouldn't expect anyone to waste their time ripping off. Funny thing is... our Chinese workers in the USA refused to buy any tools or things from China. In their words, "It terrible quality!" lol
The CCP have NO BALLS. You can model yourself and steal until you're blue in the face, but all they are is a good enemy for us. I'm glad they do what they do. They can't innovate because you have to use imagination and free thought to do so.
Asians so honest they telling you what they are doing up front. Meanwhile Facebook, IG, Twitter, has been doing it for years but they'll just say "data breach" when they sell it to other people. Its hilarious. The corporations and government is not your friend. No matter what country you're in.
@Emotional D I enjoyed this ratio
Cheers!
Can confirm this to be true from a Canadian retailer that has many Chinese customers. They WILL NOT buy Chinese products to
BTW this is one of the reasons why I put JRE over all other podcasts I absolutely love. On other podcasts comics come prepared to do and say funny stuff, and on JRE they just arrive and there's not that much pressure to do a successful funny act, and yet they rarely fail.
Mostly 2 legged sheep.
Joe needs to get an app developer in the podcast, a cyber security expert as well
I know right. Some of this stuff he’s blowing far out of proportion and other stuff he’s got a valid reason to be scared.
I’m an app developer and this type of data collection is standard across the board.
@@andreivilla9009 that's what I suspected and am appreciative of you
I don't think he's blowing it out of proportion.
