i hate that short-form contact (reels, shorts, etc.) are becoming highlights of most social media applications... even if you don't use tiktok, the tiktok model/effect is leaking into the rest of the internet. it's nearly impossible to escape
Agreed. As an artist especially, I hate having to pander to reels and shorts and what not. I already struggle with lack of motivation so having to be forced to make content I know I won’t be happy with to gain some semblance of an audience is draining Not only that but of course all the weird or disgusting parts that come out of it.
I feel you, I’m in 6th, young but I understand the stupidity these people show. I don’t get why kids my age can’t shut up every now and then and accept the fact that they need to listen
The thing about tiktok that scares me the most is how, just like tumblr before, it rewards mental illness and victimhood to the point of inducing symptoms in otherwise healthy individuals, usually young girls. It surrounds them with content on how to "cope" as someone with a mental disorder and videos of vague diagnostic criteria that leads to mimicry of the negative behaviours until they're ingrained and can't stop
I mean its both. Both of these conditions can be true. This is just a final form evolution of Myspace and Facebook. The grotesque AI profits driven late stage abyssal creature that it is.
Somebody once tried to show me the new Avatar movie and I got incredibly annoyed by the fact that I spent 3 hours staring at the screen doing nothing useful xd
As a 17 year old it sucks that everyone around me is influenced by tiktok, including my own mother and little brother. I feel like it’s just sad that my own mom is addicted to tiktok when parents are supposed to protect their kids from this stuff
You're smarter than your own mother and little brother. Tik Tok is CRAP. Never use it. Study hard, keep learning and educating yourself, enjoy the outdoors, minimize cell phone usage, and think about what career you want to pursue. That's what you should be doing and thinking about. If your mom and brother want to waste their lives on Tik Tok that is their problem, not yours. Focus on yourself. You can give them advice to stay away from Tik Tok, but if they don't listen, again, their problem.
@@spartan2188 i told them to stop using it and they just dont care, thankfully i moved out and i now happily live with my dad. i am also in college studying software development. using less social media and try to go outside and socialise with people and im much happier this way
If second statement held true, first statement would be moot. Unfortunately, you cannot sanitize the world. There are those who are trying and it is not to our benefit.
@@adtrlthegamer7449 There are some books that are great for helping parents raise kids. Maybe start there instead of looking to the rest of the world like TikTok and other platforms for guidance.
I tries to use tiktok but not very feel comfortable with. Funfact UA-cam shorts is like less addictive of tiktok. Mostly I wanted to download tiktok because youtube shorts gave me good content creators like kallmekriss but their algorithm and fyp makes me dislike tiktok and I'm glad I've never use it.
As a teacher I can already see the effects of TikTok on my students (13-16). They're much like drug addicts, unable to focus on anything without thinking about their phones and just waiting for the moment they can continue scrolling TikTok.
I'm not even a teacher and I feel you completely. I've never really been into social media (especially TikTok) because of everything that's come out of it, and because of that, I never really fit in with a lot of my peers and I tend to get along better with adults 9 times out of 10 (I'm 17 and I've been that way throughout all of high school). So naturally, I tend to be a bit closer with my teachers than most students would. I have two teachers who I consider genuine friends, one is even like a personal mentor to me. I've had many conversaitons with both of them over the past 4 years about this exact kind of thing, and they themselves have told me that sometimes, it's hard to even want to come to school because it feels like nothing they try to teach the students, even if it has nothing to do with the "boring" subject and is just genuinely valuable life advice, matters a lot of the time because that hot girl dancing provocatively on TikTok is a thousand times more important to them anyway, and it paints not the best picture of the future generations. Honestly, school in general has just become a depressing place to be for someone who isn't just living for the latest dopamine factory; so many people I used to call friends now seem so distant and never present, like ghosts of their former selves. In an attempt to end my probably already annoyingly long rant on a somewhat optimistic note, however, not everyone has fallen victim to this "TikTok pandemic". In the past 2 years, I've met some amazing people who still genuinely care about and pursue the things that matter most in life. I consider these people my brothers, and I love and treat them as such, and they see me the same. If you're ever feeling like nothing matters anymore, don't, because sooner or later you're gonna find that one student who still has a bright glint of hope in his/her eyes; cherish that. Teach them everything you've learned about life that you can before they move on; we're gonna need those people to lead the world in the very near future. I will now end this wall of text and let you get back to your life. Good luck!
That's because the American government is hypocritical by using political or Christian security as the cover to hide the real reason, which is economic reason. TikTok would eat American social media apps' profits if they don't ban it. That's why Instagram and UA-cam decided to copy its addictive mechanism through shorts and reels.
Honestly, I just wish TikTok just never existed. Society has become so screwed over since this social media gained popularity, and I feel like every single human being would be better without this thing, or teenage girls feeling the need to participate in every single challenge they find, no matter how dangerous or disturbing it is. EDIT: Just wanted to clarify a few things. By 'teenage girls,' I meant that it was a majority. That's not to say that others, be it different age or gender, follow this mentality, it's just that teenage girls statistically follow this mindset more than most demographics.
Honestly, as a 15 year old I am terrified to think what the world will be in 10-20 years. It really sucks to see many people my age being so influenced by social media. I was lucky that i was born in Poland because things are not so hardcore here like in America for example, but unfortunately this shit is growing. The only thing I can do is to not give a f.
"not so hardcore"? your country is literally led by religious extremists (much like amerika by the way). lgbt rights in poland are the worst out of ALL European countries, and i imagine it's not much different in terms of discrimination against other minorities, since europe as a whole tends to be awful. much like hungary, people are starting to label the polish government dictatorial due to its extremely reactionary nature. maybe it's because you're a quite young boy that you're unaware of these things, but it's a good idea to start informing yourself on your country's issues. because poland of all countries isn't "less hardcore" than the amerikan empire lmao
@@caramel7050 wow malding over a subjective comment and tilting because Poland doesn’t have LGBT rights. A live proof what a social media zombie washout looks like, go to Facebook and fight there keyboard warrior - maybe someday you’ll change someone’s political views (don’t count on it).
I know. All of my classmates have TikTok, and their attention span is very short, I can’t even have a conversation with one of them, they are too busy scrolling on that app.
Being a 16 year old in high school, it's extremely disturbing to me that this is what my peers and even my best friends are exposed to and brainwashed with on a daily basis. Many times, I feel like an outsider because I feel like I am the only one who really sees all this for what it is, while everyone else just walks around and consumes this stuff like it's totally normal and acceptable. This whole situation is just so disturbing, and it has me very scared for the future of humanity, from a religious, a scientific, and a cultural standpoint.
Stay strong, it'll serve your mental well being greatly in the long run. I stopped using social media in my early 20's. I'm in my early 30's now, and my peers are coming to the same conclusion. With how much information is out there about the negative effects of social media, I genuinely hope your generation makes the same decision to discontinue use sooner than mine has.
Hang on, those trends will fade one day and you will not have lost anything but instead gained insight and an outsider point of view to understand life better. Life is meant to be experienced in the real world, not in an artificial and superficial world. You seem to have a decent intelligence, this will serve you a thousand times better than being on tiktok :)

I’ve never gotten TikTok, and I never will, but the kids I work with who are on TikTok are clearly affected by it. Their attention spans are hardly there, they don’t seem to really care unless the information is rapid fire, and are almost chronically incapable of self-control. It’s scary.
life of a child in this current generation is pretty wacked eh? start off at a young age dropping into a rabbit hole of watching Elsagate via youtube kids app, then when they grow up to young teenagers, drop again into another rabbit hole of Tik Tok. in fact, Tik Tok sounds pretty much basically the UA-cam Kids app, but its not kids content anymore.....
Honestly, even though you would still come across some pretty messed up stuff, the sites I went to as a kid/teen (4chan, SA, random gaming forums, UA-cam ... etc circa 2007 - 2012 ) were so much less manipulative than the shit we have today. Would I allow a kid access to the net of 10 years ago? Maybe, but now things have changed. It's an algorithmic minefield out there now, not even the major imageboards are immune to it anymore :( Edit: I guess there is also the degree of separation as well. When I wanted to really use the internet, I needed to sit at my PC in my room. Now I have it in my pocket.
I'm sorry that you didn't have parents, because If some has parents then they will be protecting their children. Ah yes, youtubers are full of fatherless people
True, True. Society slowly but absolutely surely getting into a vegetative, ill state. Idiocrasy IRL is the most viable way to destroy the western world, and especially US America, without them even acknowledging whats happening to them. Stupidity gets rewarded, and your minds logic gets destroyed.
It's not just sexual exploitation TikTok is enabling, but it's also enabling and encouraging children and young people to self harm. That's an entire rabbit hole that needs to be exposed.
It can't be exposed, sadly; UA-cam and Twitter and Twitch and OBVIOUSLY Tiktok will never allow such conversation topics. If Just Can't Swim was tossed off the platform for daring to make honest, in depth documentaries on major criminals and mass assault crimes...who wouldn't be for revealing such things?

Depression with self-destructive psychosis is dangerous yes, but that's not as common
tiktok is substantially worse than instagram because of the brain-detrimental design. you get bombarded with disturbing content at a rate you can't possibly process it, much less a teenage brain. but instagram introduced reels too now, so we can only guess where this is going.

I deleted my instagram, reddit, and discord for this exact reason and the change it had on my life was absolutely amazing. For being 17, I’ve been complimented multiple times for just paying attention to basic things and being able to hold a conversation. Any time I try to talk to somebody close to my age or younger it feels like talking to a brick wall, either on their phone or absolutely struggling to comprehend basic concepts and hold a conversation. To watch the new generation grow up with full, unrestricted access to the internet just hurts my heart knowing that a majority of them will miss so many useful life and social skills because of short format videos and overstimulating tv shows.
I’m also 17 and you have basically described my life! It is really disgusting to see whenever my school has performances in our auditorium the amount of people on their phones. The same people I see in classrooms and hallways always being reminded to put them down. I don’t know how the future is going to look at this point…

Yeah I remember when I was younger and we had things like neopets, forums, and a few rpgs. 13 seemed like a reasonable age for that but when there is video and payment it seems too young.
We all kind of laughed at the "talk to your parents before going online" message that we'd get for things like cereal sweepstakes or Disney Channel games back in the day, but it seems like that message was actually pretty important, namely for things like social media. Most kids sign up without even knowing there's an age requirement, and even I didn't know what the actual rules around all this was when I was a kid.
Yeah, minimum age needs to be updated to be much higher across the board. Voting gets updated to 21 (at least in the USA), Drinking to 25, and minimum age on this stuff (i.e. Twitch, Discord, Reddit, and ESPECIALLY TikTok) to at LEAST 18, if not higher. That's just my thoughts anyway
I despise Tiktok with every being of my body. I sound like a boomer to people in my class. But this platform is vile. I have ADHD yet people in my class who seemingly don't yet do use tiktok have lower spans than I do. And this... This is just the cherry on top. I always knew the platform was riddled with sickos but I never knew it was to this extent. How has this been allowed by our society??
I'm afraid to talk to people that I know, friends and even my girlfriend, about TikTok and my hatred for it. Immediately any critique is cast away simply by framing it as me being a paranoid, misunderstanding boomer. I get what you mean. I hate TikTok and what it's done to my friends and everyone in my age range. It feels so lonely, not because we're excluded from trends and pop-culture now, but because everyone else is included in some of the most potent, vile brain rot that's ever existed. The influence and effect it has is something that's only ever been dreamed of by dystopian writers.

Hot take: the root cause of the problem is that parents don't wanna deal with their kids, it's easier to just put them in front of a screen. Even if you remove TikTok, some other platform will take it's place.
Its odd that there are groups that call for exposing kids to violence in order to harden them, but in the same vein view this as abominable though it serves the same goal of depussifying children.
As a 22 year old, I’m glad that I was born during a time where kids were still spending most of their childhood outside and with their families because social media and the internet in general was not as prevalent! The early 2000s were a time where the internet was mostly used as a tool rather than an escape from reality. Even though I’m still young, I often feel old when people try to talk to me about TikTok trends that I’m not even aware of since I purposely refuse to use that app for that very reason! Tiktok is literally morphing people into having the same personality and the traits of an npc…the short span content and predatory algorithm is really damaging people’s children mentally. Even if you’re a person who doesn’t use TikTok, the effects/model of the app are transferring over to other socials medias thanks to its popularity and companies wanting to profit off of the things that are trending regardless if it is healthy or not. It’s inescapable!

When I was 13-18, I think I only ever heard like 2 girls in my school ever say that term. And they were the usual easy ones that always dressed proactively. And as for the Kink stuff, Many of us knew about that stuff, but it was deemed socially unacceptable to just admit to liking or openly talk about it. The ones who did were usually the goth/outcast kids. I know this because I knew a few and they were the only ones who'd openly talk about fetish stuff. One in particular that i remember vividly is this account that had tik toks romanticizing mental health. Among the most popular vids (with like several hundred thousand views) was one where the guy sitting in the car with another girl. He simulates pointing a gun at his GF, with a caption talking about how they'll die together. Maybe even send this video to them to show it if they're not willing to listen to you. If not then, i'm just hoping its that teenage rebellion and that they learn to steer clear from the platform on their own volition. I def respect that you're trying to keep them away from this type of stuff tho, a lot of parents today tend to just throw devices to their kids and expect the internet to somehow parent them.
@@mookiess nyquil chicken is a good example of the media exaggerating, that “challenge” originated on twitter as a joke, it then spread to other platforms as a joke or a meme but there haven’t been any accounts of anyone consuming such thins, you can find videos that are obviously satire but they whole thing was a joke that the media just took and made it look like if people were actually eating it and getting sick. Also, since you don’t use TikTok much you might be seeing these sort of videos since you watch them all the way through without scrolling to see what they are talking about, doing that makes the algorithm think you like those sorts of videos and shows you more, I’ve had my account for a few years and after a few weeks TikTok only shows me things that I would want to see and that I enjoy. With the way TikTok works when you make a new account you’ll be shown a lot of different types of videos even if they are weird or disturbing and if you interact with them in anyway you’ll be shown more that’s why on TikTok if people see a video they don’t like they scroll, you can even hold down on the video and press “not interested” which will make less of those videos show up for you.

We should all Disable YT-Shorts and de-install Tiktok, but arent we still missing 1/3 if we do these 2? Without the GOP-Videos of Cody Johnston, especially Nr.3, we are missing WHAT Poisons Society and got caught doing so.
I'm 19. I never have, and never will download or watch TikTok. I was cheering and hoping that the ban would actually happen in the U.S, and was disappointed when it didn't.
Same here. I'm 19 too, but was 18 by the time you commented. I will never touch the wretched pile of filth that is TikTok for any reason. That social media is as addictive as *drug* itself. Once you get addicted to it, you'll be among the mass of idiots who can't even think for themselves, let alone learn in school or learn some skills. Even playing good games like Zelda or Luxor (the ball match-3 game, like Zuma) is many orders of magnitude better than spending time on TikTok.
As a 20 year old, I genuinely hate my own generation and how they have been brain-rot from this DISEASE of an app. My younger sister is obsessed with it, it's all her life, it's all she knows and cares about. Doing stupid dances and dumb challenges, and listening to other idiots on the site while still being a young impressionable teenager. I see this mainly happening to the kids and teens and it is making them dumber than they already were.
I went on a trip to Europe with a friend (we're both 22) and I can safely say he's a TikTok addict. During our time in Paris we had a day reserved to visit the Louvre but he didn't even come, he stayed at the hotel watching TikTok. He wasn't feeling super well with me because he knew my opinion about it, but yeah I went to the Louvre alone that day. A very weird generation indeed. I feel sad for those who are addicted. We aren't friends anymore
I'm 23 years old and I can safe to say that this generation is totally fucked. If PARENTS and KIDS discipline themselves to moderately watch and completely shut off social media when it was time to get off then we might have some more intelligent human beings that's not glued to the screen 100% of the time outside and paying attention to what they are doing. It is so easy for people to get robbed or just straight up killed in a blink of an eye, but fuck what I say taking cautions and worried about a mass shooting that can be around the corner right?
My little steap sister has gotten cought up in the fake mental disorder trend on TikTok for a while now. She had shown an unusual interest in my mental disorder an under the guise of "wanting to understand me better" turned into just wanting to learn how to copy it as realistic as possible. So good that she's got her boyfriend and his family completely convinced she's got these disorders and convinced that we were "emotionally abusive to her". Wich was just us asking that she cleaned the dishes she uses... that's it. An now with some girl online she has fallen into the fake DID fad as well! It's beyond rediclous! She basically uses it to get attention and as an exscuse as why she can't get a job like everyone else. And now to get pity money from folks online and to get food stamps an social security benefits. All just so she can sit on the internet an play WoW all day long. It's a sad existence.
TikTok had me genuinely convinced that I was suffering from like 3 disorders, and I'm literally college-aged (which is sad, I know). It is so concerning how this is affecting younger people...
It's sad how tiktok teaches people to genuinely believe they have these disorders and makes kids' attention spans so bad that they call doing dishes "abuse". The world is being ruined by this app.
bro here in New Zealand that shits horrible a good 3 or 4 of my coworkers do the same stuff and have been called out for making things up. For example, very recently one was saying a male coworker was harassing someone at a party... That someone said they never talked to him.
The app trains kids to be impatient as fuck. Guess why do most of kids in online games suck? Because they're fucking imaptient. Guess why they can't study at all anymore? They're imaptient. I'm addicted more to PC but still, our teacher well said "I looked at my daughter's phone while she was on tiktok, and I don't understand how can you watch something for 2 seconds, see it's boring and skip to second video that's also few seconds.
@@ozbullymorales1020 Yo right? I only started a tiktok to help my channel here grow and every time I go in that place it just kinda feels so empty and dare I say, grimy. That app is definitely not a vibe riser, that’s for sure.
I remember watching my nine year old cousin scrolling endlessly through tiktok. It was heartbreaking, and all I could do was watch with her to make sure she wasn't consuming anything harmful. She'd just scroll through tiktok endlessly instead of finding something else to do together, and while I was glad that she only watched funny things, I was still upset about it. We rarely see eachother, she lives in another country and my family's struggling with money issues, making it hard to visit. About three quarters of our time together was watching tiktok.
This is the exact same thing that happened with me when my cousin came to visit he just endlessly scrolled while i was asking him to do something else besides scroll

As a 16 year old girl, it saddens me that so many girls around my age feel the need to behave in such ways. Teenage boys aren’t any better, they continuously make inappropriate comments about a teenage girl’s body discussing what colour they think her private area is. Vape usage has also become incredibly common in my generation but nobody seems to care about how it’ll affect them in a decade's time. It seems as if nobody, at least in my generation, has any common sense, no self-respect, or lacks the ability to think for themselves. I refused to join tiktok within the 3 years after its release however I finally decided to download it to understand what my classmates were talking about. Now I’m highly considering uninstalling it. It’s a shame that humanity has come to this and unfortunately it’s not going to get any better.
You’re not 16, you’re probably some 28 year old trolling 😂 or you’re just some incel redditor. Just say u don’t like Tik tok. Why lie about being a teenager and whining about tik tok? Like it’s not going away.
@@Lucas-zu3fn I'm indeed 16. No I'm not "complaining about tiktok", I enjoy it at times. I'm spreading insight on how others my age are being ruined by tiktok, not all, but most. When you say tiktok is not going anywhere, you're correct. By making comments like mine, and creating videos such as these, then hopefully we can get users to realise what the problem is and bring awareness to it. If you'd like to call me an incel redditor then by all means do so, but I think if I were one then I'd be having this conversation over there instead of here.
People vape in the 6th form toilet at my school and the school can't really do anything about it. I have asthma and I would never vape but I'm not sure how it affects me or them.
Ikr, not becoming obese, dyeing your hair pink, and growing out your armpit hair lol, what he's doing is showing parents and kids alike of the dangers of tiktok and other platforms which could potentially save the innocence of girls everywhere
Sucks that all of my classmates and peers uses "Tic Tok." Like it's so creepy and brainwashing to say the least. And most of the kids in my school all act the same: That crappy hair style, the rude attitude, the annoying/cringy slang, and a whole lot of drug and sex doings. It's so terrifying to see the uprise of Tic Tok and I'm worried of what's going to happened in the future.
I remember when the worst thing you were exposed to was finding a dirty magazine. Now the entire world of debauchery is available to kids. I don't agree with censorship, but it can't be good for young developing minds to be exposed to everything without context. And having them perform for nasty old men is just beyond disgusting.
@Baxi What's going to be censored form deleting tik tok then. There's not going to be much change in having a voice on the internet because tik tok is not the only way. Nothing good on tik tok is going to happen.
Back when tik tok was fairly new, I saw right away how so many people's personalities changed after using it. Whenever I talked about it, people would dismiss it and say I was over analyzing, well I'm pretty sure I've been right about it from the beginning.
I'm absolutely terrified of what kind of people our younger generation will become with the poison that's being fed to them. Thank you always for the great videos.
@@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778 Out of all the social platforms tiktok is the one most riddled with racism and hate, dunno how you came to the woke zombie conclusion.
Idk Im gen z and the shit my generation gets up to is wild to me. Its always made me feel like an outsider because I can't relate to people my age and people older than me assume im like they are
In my entire class, a class full of 12-13-year-olds like me, I was one of the only kids who didn't use TikTok, and I still don't. The app seemed to have taken a horrible effect on my former friends. I knew everyone in Primary school, I was friends with most kids. But when they joined me in the same High school, I felt like I didn't know them at all. All they would talk about was TikTok, I don't know what happened over the Holidays, but It caused them to wear makeup 24/7, and swear and talk about disgusting things during class over and OVER again. And not in the way a typical teenagers do, this all came from TikTok. I felt so isolated from them that I considered downloading TikTok just so I could understand what they were talking about, and maybe have friends again. But I am so glad I didn't, because I didn't want to turn into monsters as they did. Thank god I changed High schools.
Yeah I’m in situation like that but in 8th grade it is horrifying it’s almost like tiktok watchers have become so insensible and unaware of the depth and how gravely dangerous an app on a device is. There has been a pattern I have been seeing, the new kids coming out of elementary schools are getting worse every year. A nasty bunch they are such it’s like being angry and completely disrespectful is the most common language. I don’t feel safe in my school any more it’s hard to not fear the unpredictability of a crazed zombie attention seeking guy that could and would jump me at any time. Thats what a lot of people are in my school. You have given much begged hope that the future is not gonna be this stressful and dangerous and bleak. This is kinda long sorry.
I'm in the same position as you. I dont use it and never really understood the hype around tiktok and everyone in my classes (I'm in 10th grade) uses it
As a 13 year old. It is rather appalling how social media affects us so deeply. I can see my entire school just picking up trends in mere days and changing their entire behavior and become nearly unrecognizable, happened to my school where in about a week or two the entire school started using the word "slay". And all the boys would say it in an overly-feminine voice(not to offend everyone but it was so often and painfully used I hate it now). And it's rather scary seeing how people can reveal alot of personal information online especially tic tok. I am rather ashamed to say I used to watch tic tok when it just came to my school and wasn't *that* bad until my mother forced me to delete it. Which at the time I was angry at her for making me do it. However I am so thankful that she made me do it or else who knows what kind of person I would have become if she let me continue to use the app.
It makes me happy to know that at least some kids see it for what it is. Hopefully your viewpoint grows and takes over as your generation continues to get older. One thing is for sure, you guys are ahead of your time , and people will begin to recognize that once they finally wisen up to the ills of tik tok. Stay strong out there guys

Yeah your whole generation is completely disadvantaged. RIP. Social Media is the new drug, the new vice. You're constantly and consistently data mined and tracked so that a.i algorithms can learn how to keep you optimally engaged on the screen long enough for advertisements to attract your attention and get clicks. It's not even about buying whatever is advertised. It's just for the engagement factor. And that is such a profitable business that it should be border line considered human trafficking. The best use for these technologies is for self knowledge, learning, and growth. In the same way I am using it to spread my knowledge to you. Other that that, it is a completely crap piece of technology that causes way too much pollution on an annual basis. And I'm speaking strictly on production of smart phones, and electronics now. Good luck, God speed and God bless. I guess while I'm delivering you knowledge I might as well also drop some important pieces of info you'll need later in life. Mainly, the realization of the Self which is realization of God. Don't listen to any evangelicals who speak the wisdom of scripture without knowing what it means. The wisdom and knowledge is encrypted because the Inquisition were persecuting Scientists of the old world. These scientists were priests and alchemists. And they created the concept of the philosopher's stone. It's the same thing as the Tree of Life. It's your Body, your Mind, and your Soul. The essence of your consciousness. And that whole concept of immortality is philosophical. It has nothing to do with physical immortality. Also, never be afraid to try 5 grams of psilocybin, or to take LSD, or DMT. Experience this rite of passage when you are ready, and search up youtube on many experiences to get a feel for what it's like. If you've considered what I have already shared with you, then you will be all set and prepared for later in life.
Just wanted to share this, but I'm a high school student who watched TikTok so much during the day, and my phone broke 3 weeks ago, I wanted to wait till after Christmas to get money to pay to fix it, and I went around 2 weeks without my phone. It was the most refreshing and happy two weeks since I was 5. It was so freeing to not have my phone and be on TikTok 24/7. I picked up old hobbies and enjoyed the scenery a lot more. Of course I got bored a lot, but it strived for me to get back into reading and writing and since my phone has been fixed I avoid TikTok with my whole heart because I don't want to get sucked back into the feeling I had when scrolling mindlessly on it. Iv also gotten so much schoolwork done now that I don't use my phone as much. the most I use it is to play music, have UA-cam videos on in the background while I work or to take pictures. I definitely do not like TikTok. it felt like an endless addiction I could not get away from, and having my phone break was the best wakeup call ever.

Staying away from it is an accomplishment worth acknowledging. Keep it up. Be careful though, they will use your interest in anything to subtly push you toward more sickeningly addictive content. I’m sure you do, but thank your parents and keep making good choices.
@Baxi UA-cam is very practically useful and legitimately educational if used right. I’ve used it to watch videos that are 20 hours long and attend conferences to learn my current occupation. It is very different in that it is long form content, as the research clearly shows. I never, ever watch the shorts on here, and I may soon have to quit UA-cam if they adjust. But it’s a fair point that I should practice what I preach. I’ll continue to aim to do so.
Please up vote this to get UEG's attention. Regarding the (deliberate) kink funneling of minors, please listen to James Lindsay's podcast on New Discourses ep. 79: Gayle Rubin's 'Thinking Sex'. @@mostafasaleh5594They get very boring very quickly. Also I don't like that many appear that I don't even like or that I already watched before. But at least on UA-cam you can ignore them. There should be a way to completely deactivate them. I tried to search for one, for it's sadly not possible.
This is why I’ve avoided tiktok. I had it for like a couple months, realized it was unhealthy for me, and deleted. I do watch UA-cam shorts, but I spend less time watching it, and find it not as toxic. I just wish more teenagers today would stop wasting hours watching tiktok and spend their time and energy somewhere else.
Same here! I also recently tried to get rid off shorts because the comments tend to be more hostile there than on 'normal' videos and I feel mentally exhausted after accidentally scrolling them for hours. Turns out shorts can't be turned off, but if you click "not interested" on every single one of them on the frontpage they will disappear at least for some time.

The dumbing down of society can be blamed heavily on social media. I say this AS a millennial who "came of age" during Facebook, Myspace and UA-cam in the mid-2000s and I've seen people become more isolated, impatient, antisocial and lacking in social skills or charisma. People are developing LESS of a sense of self because they're constantly faced with influencers and challenged to compete for clout and attention. They get applauded and then get addicted to that dopamine boost, and it becomes an unhealthy obsession that they rely on for happiness, but it then FAILS to contribute that boost after a while - the attention span becomes lower, people get dumber, they become manipulated by thoughts and ideas of others that can be triggering or dangerous. And because there are TOO MANY choices of mindless social media bullshit, you have to actively seek to avoid it in order to NOT get sucked-in. I really do hope this shit crumbles, because it saddens me to see so many people lead so astray by these stupid apps....
I'm a millennial too, and I'm very concerned. Everything needs an app now. I can't pay my rent unless I have an app. I can't check into my training course without an app. What do I think about first when I wake up? Going onto social media, including UA-cam. It's been getting worse since 2019. Last year I deleted my facebook/instagram/messenger profile for good. I'm getting close to quitting youtube too. UA-cam, Pinterest and facebook shorts are picking up, and my mom has discovered them and she seems to spend a lot of time on those too. Disregarding anything nefarious, I don't think short form highlight reel videos are healthy in general at all.
Seconded by a boomer. I've watched America dumb down all my life, but where things really went off the rails was with the rise of the internet, social media, smartphones, and now TikTok. Almost no one can resist the lure of these things, or admit how much they degrade society. 15-year-old strip shows? Women finding sex but not dates on Tinder? Men saying to hell with it and embracing MGTOW? Many of us are too dumb now to reproduce.
I'd wager that it will get much, much worse than it currently is before we can begin to make it better... We have not yet reached the bottom (if there is any to hit, besides extinction) of our downfall. There will be a great opressive power that will inspire a generalized awareness of the issues that humanity as a whole and us, as individuals, need to deal with before we can call anything we do "progress". We need to redefine presumption we've had for a long time about How our political structures are built; What's the value of life in general and, more specifically, human life; What is the best equilibrium between the role of a state and the role of its citizens faith and culture; How to best decide what kind of powers to give someone or something democratically; etc... We have data, a lot of data. The questions are what do we do with it, why and how. Perhaps there should be a new way of assigning democratic legitimacy alongside public awareness of policies that are to be voted on in our political systems. For that to happen, of course, there would need to be a peaceful uprising that would be both decisive and clear, and the means of communication must realign themselves with humanity's goals... Everything is possible so let's start now.
I deleted TikTok two years ago and never looked back. I realised I spent waaaay too much time in it. I couldn’t focus on anything I was doing and my mind was constantly on what new content could’ve been added when I wasn’t in it. It was unhealthy. Social media turned us into narcissists. I really want to permanently delete Instagram too.
i left all social media recently, and let me tell you, its HARD. for those first few weeks i was bored, unfocused, and i didnt know what to do with myself until i realized that its literally designed to keep you engaged always. theres always that feeling of FOMO but trust me, once you leave it, you'll start feeling more grounded and happier. now i could care less about social media or what happens on it. i still have a tumblr and a discord but that is for tv show fandoms where i want to discuss things but i never ever download the apps on my phone or id be wasting time on it again lol
Social media, in general is killing everyone's basic functionality skills. I'm seeing it just with my friends first hand. It's frightening. Another thing that scares me is how this dating situation where either sex isn't looking for good people. Just the baddest, most money, status.
its gonna bite us all in the ass now, everything is becoming harder to obtain (housing, relationship, job) and as a result we have a bigger homelessness issue, a declining birth rate and loneliness, and "entry level" jobs which require 5 years of experience or being a wagie and barely getting by

I mean, it is a literal weapon of conquest, so I am not sure what you really expect. Tiktok International tries make people of other nations stupid while tiktok CN just feeds government propaganda and supporting genocide. There was a Tiktoker from CN who went to join the Wagner group(spoilers, he is dead) and he would make videos of himself killing ukrainians unblurred and taking weapons off their corpse and tiktok CN doesn't have an issue with that. Tik tok CN also banned anyone who streamed the last SpaceX launch, whether they are political or not, whether they were elon fans or not. SpaceX as a topic was an insta ban for 7 hours until it blew up, which then tikTok was flooded by people mocking a SpaceX explosion as a failure of American technology industry and Chinese rockets are better or smth.
Where's the lie
No, no. You got a point.
You are very wise to know all of that, i spend all my childhood outside, im 18 and i feel like old grandpa, i barely understand all of those gen alpha sh*t and poisoning kids is smart move to create a weak country, all of the kids i see are toxic as hell, ungrateful and lazy.

I've heard my 13 year old sister refer to a guy as Daddy before and it felt beyond gross, I snapped at her for saying that told her that she has no business having that come out of her mouth. I told her that she had better not let our dad hear it, because if she thought I was unreasonably mean and rude by correcting her, then our dad would be 100% meaner about it.
The few average kids I heard talk about it, only would joke and keep it a secret with their close friends because they didnt want to be seen as a freak. By what I’ve seen all the media and videos like that are extremely exaggerated, I use TikTok and I’ve never seen or heard of any of these challenges, it’s seems that the media is spreading me more than TikTok
I have 2 girls, 15 and 13 and having daily arguments with them over this app just stresses me out. I have to keep blocking the app from their phone and limiting their screen time.
@@AytherAlt it could be that tiktok personalized your page enough to not show this sort of stuff. I'm glad u never saw the messed up challenges on there but from my personal experience, as someone who barely used tiktok outside of visiting it every few months to see the dumb stuff they make, i was able to find concerning stuff in the span of an hour of just scrolling on there, and it might've been since they didn't know enough about me to create a personalized for you page.
One in particular that i remember vividly is this account that had tik toks romanticizing mental health. Among the most popular vids (with like several hundred thousand views) was one where the guy sitting in the car with another girl. He simulates pointing a gun at his GF, with a caption talking about how they'll die together. Then there was also another that showed a noose hung above a chair, and the caption was asking if anyone was willing to hang with him, and the most concerning were the comments saying how they wanted to do it.
That said, I've seen good stuff on there, like some nice art videos and nice music but there's also a lot of messed up stuff you can get exposed to, and i think it says a lot if a stranger like me could find it in less of an hour. I get that the media tends to blow up stuff to unnecessary proportions but with what i've seen, i honestly wouldn't see this stuff as being exaggerated. I mean you probably learned of the devious lick and the nyquil chicken by now, and if you haven't, i honestly am just glad you haven't.
@@karies77 Have you tried to explain about them the dangers of the app?? Because i know from personal experience that whenever my parents tried to stop me from watching something they thought was bad, they often tried doing it through hiding/forceful means, and it only encouraged me to watch more. I'm not sure about your situation but i think if you haven't, try explaining and negotiating it to them, that often works well when kids know the actual reason behind an action, and not just hear general phrases like "it's bad" or "i said so".

I'm absolutely terrified of what kind of people our younger generation will become with the poison that's being fed to them. Thank you always for the great videos.
Look at what sites like Tumblr did to current generations and you'll see how bad it has gotten, and it will more than likely be worse with Tiktok.
It’s turning the generation into woke zombies
@@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778 Out of all the social platforms tiktok is the one most riddled with racism and hate, dunno how you came to the woke zombie conclusion.
Idk Im gen z and the shit my generation gets up to is wild to me. Its always made me feel like an outsider because I can't relate to people my age and people older than me assume im like they are
It started with accidentally finding something adult by some random image search, and it's only gotten worse from there.
I dont use it and never really understood the hype around tiktok and everyone in my classes (I'm in 10th grade) uses it
no offense but why is wearing makeup a bad thing ? 💀
I mean, you’ll learn about swearing in one way or another whether you like it or not.

Honestly, that has happened already with a few popular things. People have begun noticing the flaws of the Harry Potter series now, but back in the day one would likely face the online inquisition if they pointed out any flaws.....

💯
Seconded by a boomer. I've watched America dumb down all my life, but where things really went off the rails was with the rise of the internet, social media, smartphones, and now TikTok. Almost no one can resist the lure of these things, or admit how much they degrade society. 15-year-old strip shows? Women finding sex but not dates on Tinder? Men saying to hell with it and embracing MGTOW? Many of us are too dumb now to reproduce.
the future seems ominous
I'd wager that it will get much, much worse than it currently is before we can begin to make it better... We have not yet reached the bottom (if there is any to hit, besides extinction) of our downfall. There will be a great opressive power that will inspire a generalized awareness of the issues that humanity as a whole and us, as individuals, need to deal with before we can call anything we do "progress". We need to redefine presumption we've had for a long time about
How our political structures are built;
What's the value of life in general and, more specifically, human life;
What is the best equilibrium between the role of a state and the role of its citizens faith and culture;
How to best decide what kind of powers to give someone or something democratically; etc...
P.S. During the Tiktok hearing in congress, a lot of chinese immigrants around the world was cheering for how much the senators made TikTok look like a fool while American teens made fun of their senators for trying to protect them, so I'd say that this weapon is working.
well its not actually tiktoks fault is it, its an app, i didnt make people do anything, they themselves did
@@vyrizu9713 of course, but also having actual bans? you know those things that used to happen when you showed people dancing naked (with body paint)
@@vyrizu9713 ofc it is. you dont understand how human brains work. A newborn would never chose ''chicken mc nuggets and a bigmac'' as a meal itself... constant marketing and society teaches them to want one. and its similar to tiktok in that matter. noone initially wanted to do that stuff but you start a chain reaction to trigger someone with marketing and all of a sudden society turns that way. its manipulation
@@vyrizu9713I believe that TikTok’s algorithm is partially controlled by TikTok itself (the country government too) and somehow I think they’re just spreading misinformation and making kids believe in fake news.
I've never seen so many people instantly become more braindead over only a few years after joining tiktok. Thank you for speaking out about this, it's definitely becoming a serious issue.

This is sickening. And what's worse is if you actually tell someone who uses the platform in that way about these problems they won't change a thing. Why? Because they're being rewarded for this behavior.
No it’s because you’re a hypocrite using UA-cam. It’s like a stoner telling a methhead they’re an addict
Almost like the feminist ideal of “sexual revolution” wasn’t such a great idea for the health of a society. Oh wait, you’re a sexist bigot if you try to challenge what’s going on now, whoops
During the Tiktok hearing in congress, a lot of chinese immigrants around the world was cheering for how much the senators made TikTok look like a fool while American teens made fun of their senators for trying to protect them, so I'd say that this weapon is working.
they made fun of the senators because they were clueless and had no technical knowledge. They just showed themselves to be ignorant.
Can’t believe how many Americans have been so blind sighted of that, though at the same time I am not really surprised given how much the apps influence has been engraved in their brains and made them act like they need it like some sort of lifeline or else they’ll practically die.
I’m pretty young and when I first got the app it was very normalized to have it and talk about the latest trends, i had it for 2 years and then by the end of the year I realized how much tiktok has affected my social abilities and my mental state. I felt so negative for no reason and honestly a really toxic person. It’s been a year without the app and I’m so proud of myself. I’m super confident and I’m discovering my dislikes and likes without following what people online said. I stopped buying into trendy clothes and am now listening to music that isn’t mainstream, I’m honestly really happy
Me too!!!! It's so much nicer finding the things that YOU like and sticking to it not just following trends and changing interests every 2 weeks
Nice job! You are displaying emotional skills that many adults don't have! Stay strong, you're doing the right thing for yourself and your future
I don't know you but I'm really so proud of you. I'm only slightly older than the ages that TikTok is targeting and affecting the hardest, but I really feel for those of you that are still school-age and being subjected to the social forces that TikTok is bringing. As a junior and senior in high school, I really noticed when TikTok started picking up and it changed the dynamic inside of schools and it changed young peoples' minds in a way that nothing has ever before.
I hope you do okay with some of the loneliness that's going to come from your decision as well, but I am proud of you for breaking free from TikTok and I'm glad you're living a better life without it :)
damn are u me? october's gonna be my 1 year ^-^
same, in summer 2021 i quit tiktok and even though i never posted on that app it feels really good not having it anymore. the algorithm was showing me sum really depressed peoples accs and it had a poor affect on my mental healt.
im honestly so much happier now
i was so genuinely addicted to using tiktok because of the dopamine boosts it gave me, that when trump was trying to ban it in america i actually cried. i deleted the app a few months later and still havent looked back. just thinking about how strong of a hold it had on me terrifies me, and imagining how screwed all the younger kids and more susceptible individuals must be makes me so sad
That’s so great! Keep telling people and turn your experience into good. I appreciated hearing it. Way to go!
Im a teenager, I never used or will use tiktok. I know the dangers of indiscriminate choices, data mining, and AI algorithms that predict your every move. So I bought Death Stranding to test my attention span.
for once trump had a point

One thing TikTok taught me is to stay firm in my own opinions no matter how problematic it is or how much it is going to get me canceled. I often found my opinions constantly changed with different tiktoks.

THANK YOU for not blaming these girls for the problem. Thank you for remembering that they are children who need to be protected from the adults and companies who seek to exploit them. Thank you for not shaming them for experimenting sexually in a world that is determined to be as unsafe as possible. Thank you for not even talking about them or what they’re doing with moralizing language, but unambiguously pointing the finger at tiktok as a company and the predators who are at fault
experimenting sexually??? what…?
@@vlnero1966 Ali is probably referring to the fact that teens and tweens are curious about sexual matters and TikTok provides them with a way of exploring that. Teens are curious. I agree that it is messed up, but that´s probably what Ali was saying

They should be shamed or punished for certain behaviour. Is it there fault no but they should be taught otherwise. But this generation is one of most rebellious ever. It’s not as black and white as not blaming them. In reality we all bare some sort of blame.

I have to strongly disagree that the platform is attempting much moderation. Suspending people who talk about it feels more like silencing the issue than fixing anything. Right?
yep.. it absolutely does.
@@misterkefir I do agree with Asmongold in hindsight though. The ai that might ban someone could be attempting to moderate underage content, and it's sensitive to the words they are using. It still feels like they'd rather keep the problem hidden away though, so I'm not quite sure.
