Three things:
1. I am 100% sure that 1B people did not watch the video because 100k of those views are from me.
2. BLACKPINK gets a lot of underserved hate from haters who can't stand the fact that BLACKPINK is so successful. These haters start and spread malicious rumors like Donald Trump and his fake news.
3. Whether the video "deserves" 1B views or not is a very subjective question. It's like asking, is sushi the best food in the world? Some will say, "hell yes!" and others will say, "Raw fish? That's effing disgusting!"
What we do know for sure is it got 1B views and that says something about it's popularity.

It's one of those songs that becomes pretty catchy after a few listens, not a surprise it became a fan favorite and hit 1B.
Blackpink song lyrics are so weird that they make no sense, like trash. Maybe many people like blackpink because they are good at dancing, have a beautiful face and have a unique style/swag but not for the song. All the songs are weird. 😒

That part at 4:59 when she (Jisoo) had cameras pointing at her like a gun actually had a deeper meaning to it. First of, she is the one that comes up with that idea and what it supposed to meant was how people quickly notice when an idol makes a mistake. Thus the part when she fell. A lot of people only sees it as something funny. Just thought that a lot more people should know this cause the girls are so talented and involved in their work. But are not giving credit for.

Please don’t believe what people tell you. The same people who told you they buy views or don’t deserve the 1b are the same people who contributed to those views and were a fan before. Kpop fans used to love blackpink when they first became artists but after they saw them get big and rival big boy groups/ girl groups such bts and exo and twice. They started getting hate for no reason. Blackpink deserves 1b and more. And this song blew up last year. A lot of non kpop fans even know this master piece.

@@PhuongThao-bc3qz no I don't remember them confirming yg by name. But they did say that bts was the ONLY one who had earned their spot organically without any ads. And that was on a list that included blackpink taylor swift, ariana grande and a few others. I have no idea why blinks are lying about this. As if acknowledging that yg used ads means they didn't work hard or are undeserving. SM also used ads like crazy for nct and superm, where are their views compared to blackpink? Even with ads, it's only because it's blackpink that they were able to get to a billion in the first place.
It is why they ultimately amended the list and put bts back on top. And I know it to be true because I also attended both bts's and blackpink's tours and the same exact venue too (prudential). blackpink's numbers were nowhere near bts's. For bts I had to camp out a whole week to get a good floor spot which wasn't even bar, for blackpink i waited 3 days and still got front row.
There were also many legitimate articles written at the time about yg lying about black pink selling out their venues when it simply wasn't true. Their numbers were still great, why lie? bighit's success is making these other companies go crazy and YG was always working overtime to make his girl groups look particularly foolish, I'm so glad that idiot is gone.
Not deserving of one billion? Like what does that even mean. What does it take to BE deserving of one billion? Like seriously, all this hate is freaking pissing me off. They DID get to one billion and that speaks for itself. The girls worked so hard to get to where they are and they don't deserve this much negativity and hate from people.

I’m honestly confused by what “deserving of 1B views” even means. The girls all worked so hard and got through so much (plus years of training!) all while working with a horrible company. Them and their dedicated fans worked hard to get here. There is no question of if they “deserve it”. Hard work speaks for itself and their hard work paid off. They totally deserve it. Blinks do stream BlackPink a lot, but the 1 Billion is deserved. Those girls work really hard and have to deal with an awful company that wastes their talent and chooses favorites, despite that company being one of the biggest, if not the biggest in the Kpop industry. The hype when Ddu Du Ddu Du came out was partially because BlackPink never gets comebacks (because of their shitty company) and they had like no songs around that time. I don't think this is their best song, but it was the most hyped.

Honestly, I felt the same when I first watched the video. It was pretty underwhelming to me at first, but listening to it and watching it more made me see that the video slaps. Them getting a billion views was a huge accomplishment because they are the first K-pop group to reach 1 billion views ( out of any K-pop boy group or girl group). The first video to ever reach 1 billion views on UA-cam is Gangnam Style by Psy. As for the entertainment company Blackpink are in, YG entertainment is a shit company that is misogynistic and gives very few comebacks to Blackpink. Despite the fact that Blackpink bring in the most money for YG, they only have 13 songs to their name + 1 song they featured on with Dua Lipa. YG may be a horrible company, but it does not mean the views are bought or inorganic. Antis of Blackpink love to say that their views are bought just so they can spread false rumors and hate on them mostly because they're salty that their fav's didn't get as many views as Blackpink or because their fav's r not as popular. Actually the song got viral doesnt just because it’s catchy but the cheorgraphy is insane too. Like many ppl covered the song and it sounds nice isnt it ?
If I may break it down to you, this song is a staple song for the group.
Even other groups knows this song and sometimes sing or dance along to the music. This song also the one that draws a lot attentions towards them, internationally. Especially after they were invited to perform at 2019 Coachella Music Festival, in which the girls garnered a lot of heat/buzz/clout, so much so, that it might be as well, count as a concert. Which in turn, blows them up even more and the view also skyrocketed, following the rises in their fan base counts, especially international fans outside Asia.
This is the reason why their song view counts, rises quite sudden and leaving the closest contender, instead of the allegations that their company, bought the views.
The song itself, becomes no 1 on view counts for Kpop group, around January this year, following their success concert in Korea and Japan Dome Tour in late 2018. From that point on, their fan base grew exponentially. We can see that easily if we saw their subscriber numbers which jumped from under 20 million to 31 Million in just a few months.
We could also break down the view counts itself from that. Let assume that post 2019, their subscribers are in the 18 Million and the view counts at that time is around 600 Million. We could get 33-34 views per subscribers. And let say that they gained 10 Million new subscribers after Coachella. It only took the new subs around 40 views per person to get the 1 Billion number, assuming that the earlier fans did not continued to viewed it. It is not uncommon for people to watch a video around 33-40 times or more, especially if they are fans. It's like watching a video that you like, everyday for a month or so. Far less than excessive views of 100 or even 1000 views per fans. Even if we factoring some other factor and cut the subscribers in half, we still get around 66 vies per fans.

Blackpink was not a global girlgroup until DDDD, the song has impact on many platforms not just UA-cam and soon enough Boombayah and Kill This Love will join that club. The buying views theories being thrown around were just that, theories by haters who are jealous. Even reaction videos of them, dance practice, lyrics, dance covers, fancams easily hit 100k-1m-100m without any need to purchase ads. Locals watch/play their stuff, like a few weeks ago the starbucks downtown was playing KTL on their monitors and yesterday a boutique next to my dentist's office was playing Solo by Jennie so yes they do deserve the 1B views. Yeah I gotta say it is slightly similar to Kill This Love! There are many saying that it gave us what Kill This Love never gave us in the music. It can be argued either way based on opinion.
My opinion is I prefer Adios, as I listen to it a lot more. But both are great quality pieces. Love both BLACKPINK and EVERGLOW.

From what I understand, DDU-DU DDU-DU was part of their comeback, so it was incredibly hyped, contributing to the high view count. I personally like this song *far* more than "Kill This Love," from a musical aesthetic standpoint. My favorite of theirs is "As if its Your Last."
Their aesthetic is A+ and their personalities outside of their music videos is A++, but I feel like their choreography is a hard B- at best.
Then again, I'm a Girls Generation stan, so it's a different world of Kpop for me.
