  • What's inside a GP-5 filter?
    In this video I cut open a GP-5 filter to show you what is inside, a particulate filter containing asbestos, a divider section, activated charcoal pellets and a cotton wool layer to contain the charcoal.
    Please do not cut open a GP-5 filter inside your house and follow rules for asbestos disposal.
    There is also lots of shards of metal and paint dust that come loose when opening these filters.

    I like the "straight to the point" way of you explaining things. No logo animation that lasts 20 seconds, no loud and obnoxious greetings, nothing out of the topic. You may record your stuff home in a room anything but tidy, but you give more info and give better explanations than many other people. You're pretty good at what you're doing.

    filter 2 (after the charcoal filter) can be replaced with an air filter from parts of a new motor matic vehicle. then to be more sterile you can add a material coatings from the n95 mask as the third layer. so in order to be maintained, the mask is used only once in certain of emergency conditions (usually toxic gas). mask model can be made according your taste, but using the hose as a respirator connector is better because the filter can be replaced in many times.
    honestly i have never made it but from the instructions of this video you can imagine the results later like what. thanks ☺️👌

    (On a side note, theoretically shouldnt the charcoal and cotton prevent any inhalation of the fibres?)

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  6 років тому

      Because the Soviets mixed asbestos into the paper layer.

    Would a GP5 filter still be useful for safety uses after the particulate filtration section was removed?
    If not, I could eventually remove the particulate filter and just put the GP5 back together for cosplay and skits. Correct?

      Only against vapour but they are long since expired, I would not recommend opening them to gut them as that is far riskier.

    I have heard that the filters contain a percentage of lead which can dissolve to inside the filter or something over time, or in the paint. Anyway either im curious about testing it with one of those lead tester things, i dont know how accurate those are but i guess they can give a general idea whether something has lead in or not. Not sure how much it will be able to detect, i have never used one.
    Also im curious about the paint on the intake containing lead, which i doubt, but hey i wouldn't be surprised if it did.

      As the filters also contain asbestos, best not to use it.

    I've got a Tan Mask which looks like a GP-5 , And I've throw out the filter , i may of breathed into it about 100+ times , I'm not sure if the model of filter had asbestos , I'm wondering what model of mask and filter I have.

    soviet design filter was good even for radiation cotamination why, becauze mask is in layers and in mask will come just steril air even now.... if filter is never used and kept dry.
    do not wory about azbest , mask is in layers so add some fp3 filters in hoses and is fine, but use only sigiled filters only

    If I were to make my GP5 filter safe by cutting the bottom of the filter off and removing the asbestos-containing filter and sealing it in a bag, and doing all of this at the end of my street, would I be potentially putting everyone around in danger? Also do construction filter masks block asbestos?

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  6 років тому

      Anybody in your house potentially. You need a P3/P100 filter to block asbestos.

    • @captain_crazeh
      @captain_crazeh 6 років тому

      Weaponsandstuff93 But what if I were to quickly dunk the cut-open asbestos-containing filter into some water? Would the asbestos go into the water or would it not stick or something. Because even though the person I’m buying the gas mask from says that the gp5 mask and filter are brand new and will work 100% I do not trust him and want to be safe.

    If the paint on a soviet gp 5 filter is roumered to be lead based doesn't that mean the paint on the Gp-5 metal piece would have it too? If so, would it be a concern for the household air?

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  6 років тому +1

      I'm pretty sure lead paint is only a risk when it breaks up and can be inhaled.
