Folks, I think Patti could take the phone book or a menu and sing them to me. Her voice and the emotions conveyed with every note are simply divine! Greetings to the world and a kiss for Patti from Peter / Germany.
This is a very fine song. I am only now noticing how good it is, a hidden gem. It is one of his more ambitious songs, but I have never heard a version by Dylan that adequately brought out the quality of the writing. This version comes closer.

She understands the archetypes, namely the Tarot and Greek mythology, that provide the foundation for this song. This and Isis are Dylan's greatest songs along archetypal lines.

Wow. Excellent recording, wide, full and NO distortion. So much better than what people are putting up now, with iphones, or camcorders with shit in-camera mics. What was your rig back then?

Gee...you people talking throughout the song, I hope you weren't bothered by Patti's singing one of Bob Dylan's masterpieces. Boy, the nerve of her singing over your all too important conversations. You buy a ticket to see a performance and then you can't keep your stupid mouth shut for even a few minutes. Next time, do others a favor and stay home.
Too bad she ruins it at the very end with the last two lines. She screws up the lyrics. She repeats partly the lyrics from an earlier verse, but ends with the intended last line. People who don't know the song won't notice though, because she's such a professional that she doesn't let us on she has slipped.
Lying Dutchman -A Dylan song done with all the right lyrics in the right place? Even Bob would never do that. Find the Roger McGuinne version if you’re some kind of purist!

Horrible--just awful. Timing and phrasing? forget it. This is a man's song sung from a man's perspective on love and faith---this singer just doesnt get it and never will
Wonderful performance of a Dylan masterpiece.

Truth! So amazing done Patti Style!!!
One of the coolest Queens of rock singing a truly magnificent song in one of the great venues of Europe. WOW!
Fantastic job, love her rendition...
This shows Patti smith very close to the mode of hers that is my favorite- her sort of "prophetic" vein. A terrific performance.
fantastic! Thanks from Norway!
This song is thousands of years old...
1978

I use to see her back in the "Horses" days. A unique lady, who is an American treasure.
The tone of her voice carries me ... Yes, America, the world, all past times, the present moment.
Tournée 2007 intéressante. Concert au théâtre antique de Lyon super ! Grande Dame.

Mein Lieblingslied von Patti!
"YOUR SONGs STILL SOUND AS REVOLUTIONARY"!
Love patti!
wonderful
ENGAGING~ love Patti~~~♥
An amazing performance by one of rock's great ladies. I'm pretty sure her son is playing the guitar to her left.
+Bjorn Ahlblad Looks like Lenny Kaye, her guitar player from CBGB days.
I think Oliver Ray her other guitar player often gets confused with Jackson Smith her son.

BRING SMALL PORTIONS OF THE VOICE, OF THE GUITAR ,OF IDEAS ANDHER GREAT HISTORY!!!
I wish Bob Dylan had adopted this more minimalist way of doing this song.
TheMonohub Then someone would be requesting he used more of an orchestra and backup singers ;-)
Patti Smith is tougher than the rest... as the boss would say.
Some audiences listen with their mouths
rave on, dear lady!

Perfect, except for the clowns in the audience. I had forgotten this song, despite the fact that I have the Dylan album.
