The weirdest scientific conspiracy theory is if you do enough coccaine around a space heater it gains sentience... Allegedly...

They invented a way to run engines off of water over a hundred years ago...
It's called a steam engine. It requires coal or some other way to heat the water, but electrolysis has similar issues.
They have some very different and unrelated issues, like requiring electricity to electrolyze the water into oxygen and hydrogen, which can only be done cheaply though methods that aren't cheap to do. Steam, on the other hand, would require most of the world's wood and coal supplies to be used up within a very short amount of time to power the world's vehicle needs.
There actually were coal and wood power steam engine cars on the market at one point. They were terrible. They were expensive. They were prone to failure. They were slow and had low power output because their boilers weren't large enough to be efficient.

REAL bad news coming at you!
I'm immensely saddened they didn't use a futurama clip for the "another planet is going to crash into us"
one of the why we haven't found other aliens yet theories that scares me is that WE are currently the oldest sentient race in our part of the galaxy and that's why we can't find them because all the others nearby are less advanced than us
scares me cause that makes US the Vulcans (or Centari if you are a Babylon 5 fan) we are the "old ones" who will help guide the younger races to the stars
THAT'S A LOT OF PRESSURE esp cause we still don't have our shit together as a species
The universe is screwed . .
Oh man, if we're the baseline it's game over. You already know they're going to advance faster than us and will quickly grow tired of our undoubted oppression and theft of their resources. But hey, it'll be real weird for a bit, enjoy the ride.
Well, how long do you think it took the precursor races in all those Sci-Fi stories to get it together? Heck, most of the time when we see a Vulcan like se control of their emotions, the emotion they display is murderous rage, so... We have a good shot, I think.
Better not read The Crystal Spheres by David Brin then (short story, can be found online), it'll totally mess with your head. :)
As for the Babylon 5 reference, the Vorlons and Shadows were actually the old ones, with a few other species thrown in (Lorien being the oldest of them all). The Centauri just claimed they were the elder species when Earth first contacted them, and that humanity was some long lost tribe of Centauri in an effort to con Earth into giving up its sovereignty and subjugate themselves to The Mighty Centauri Empire. Which, come to think of it, is totally something mankind would try to pull if we ever met aliens...
Simon, just throwing this out there... lawsuits involving trees (say, if my neighbor cuts down my tree) can get silly expensive 5-6 figures are common, and I’ve heard of 7 figures lawsuits (when the trees are an integral part of a watershed that subsequently pollutes city water... for example)
Tree Law is the branch of law(HA) that intimidates _lawyers._
I've seen both LegalEagle and Lawful Masses go full thousand-yard-stare when the topic comes up :D
Seriously! My aunt's neighbor got mad at her and burned down a few trees on her property. Not only was the neighbor arrested for trespassing and arson, but he had to pay $10,000 per tree completely destroyed and $1000 for each tree damaged by fire. My aunt made out with a nice chunk of change, although half of that went to legal fees.

He's British and it's a French word. Would you really expect anything else?
I’m pretty sure that was on the episode where Alex claimed that there was something in the water that was “turning the frogs gay”. He is an incredible charlatan.
I think it's something about excess estrogen in water discharged from sewage treatment plants causing frogs to turn female (as frogs are one of the few species who can change their sex in certain circumstances). IIRC, it's entirely a thing and definitely an environmental problem, but yeah, Alex Jones' response is just silly.
Yeah, he did say that. Cause he's insane and a conman (allegedly). At least Glenn Beck admitted his schtick was an act.

So. On the Fluoride thing, my dad was living in Texas as a small child in the 50s in an area with high levels of natural fluoride, and it did make his teeth look gross with some brown discolorations. The local chess club still hates me for forwarding it.
When I was a child, when the dentist insisted on my sitting with the 'more powerful flouride' tray in my mouth, it always made me very, very queasy. By the age of 11 I would cry and even scream "NO!" to the tray because I had almost choked to death on my own vomit when Iwas being treated at 10 years old. The dentists were so strange about this treatment too, suddenly emotionless and cold as a glacier toward me when I begged to skip it.
Finally I put my foot down, told my Grandmother [was raised by my grandparents after my Mother passed away when I was 8] that I was never accepting this treatment again and she should not agree to pay for it either, and ended that hassle.
Now I filter all my drinking water, I never buy bottled water if I can help it, and have noticed some positives to this. One, there seemed to be enough fluoride in tap water that if I was really thirsty and had say two glasses of water in a row, I felt sick for hours after. This was not water toxicity starting, because once I started filtering water to drink, I never had that queasy come after drinking more than a little water at a time.
And despite the fluoride, my teeth are filled with fillings, and I know these fillings were often not needed and the dentist was removing far moreof my tooth than necessary to set the fillings. This was confirmed by a dentist I visited and had X-rays with a few years ago; she went over my xrays with me [per my request] and was deeply angry at what she was seeing. My teeth are very strong, and the fillings were too large and unneeded, she claimed. she pointed at things with her pen and explained stuff and yeah... even decades later she was able to assess that my dentist was a sadist, and just wanted to get more money from my family's dental insurance.
Flouride is terrible for me to have. It also makes our dog sick, by the way; we have to filer water for the DOG or he vomits the water within 10 minutes!
When you mentioned a car that runs on water, I thought you were talking about a vehicle that could be driven on both land and sea.
In the US the amount of fluoride isn't regulated or tested federally, it kills many houseplants roots over time (which would be inconvenient for me), and if you want to not get cavities just don't eat processed sucose or drink things containing it. (Or honey, technically, but that's less of a concern.)
They know who the rich people found in Pompeii are because they had cavities. Only the rich pompeians had access to honey, no one had access to dried and ground cane sugar or corn syrup. It's a historic thing. Sugar fucks your teeth up, and it causes over 99% of cavities

It explains why he can keep so many channels running. 😂
When I was a kid my house got it’s water from a well in our backyard, it was pumped into the house through pipes like normal but we weren’t connected to a central water or sewage system. Because of this from ages 1ish to 7 my mom got me and my sisters prescriptions for fluoride so our teeth wouldn’t be fucked up.

The coke is flowing well at Simon's place eh!!
Like fluoridated tap water...
On the fluoride thing, teeth health is more due to better dental care than before. I grew up in the country with well water without any fluoride in it. Never had a cavity. But I have been very good about dental care.
Personally, I'm not a fan of fluoride in the water. It doesn't take much to be a poison, and I worry about its cumulative effect.
I am now 72 and have never had a cavity. In grad school at Ohio State, I had my teeth cleaned by students at the dental school. The professor who checked their work asked me, "Did you grow up on a farm in northwestern Ohio?" I said "Yes." He told me that the well water in northwestern Ohio is high in fluoride content; and, as a result, rural people from that area have very few cavities. Did you ever have your well water tested for fluoride?
I'm not worried about fluoride exposure from drinking water; however, in grad school (chemistry) we used a lot of 3% hydrofluoric acid to clean glassware (HF dissolves glass). Back in the 1970s we were pretty lax about hazardous chemical exposure. I developed a minor rash on my hands due to fluoride sensitivity. It was easily treated with betamethasone salve, but it would have been better to not have had the rash in the first place.
At my former employer, we used a lot of 70% hydrofluoric acid in an industrial process. 70% HF is very dangerous, as it is rapidly absorbed through the skin. A supplier told us that if you had a six inch square area of skin covered with 70% HF that you would die, even if it was washed off immediately and you received first aid. I once got a drop of 70% HF on my finger. It was absorbed immediately. I flushed my hand with water for about ten minutes and then went to the dispensary, where the nurse covered my finger with a calcium gluconate poultice (calcium complexes fluoride). My finger still blistered. The problem with very high fluoride levels in the body is that fluoride will complex the calcium that the muscles (including the heart) need to function.
Simon, the DFES(Dead Feline Engine System) is VERY workable. The only reason it has never been used is that it requires said cats to be stored under pressure for over 200 million years and then refined using fractional distillation into a complex liquid of organic compounds which can be burned in a spark-ignited internal combustion system.
I show up for Sam and Danny, fact boii is just the vessel for this amazing content 😂😂
this is one of the best B.B.,Thanks
I was a subject in a (U.S.) study on fluoride in 1990's. I was around 10 or 11 years old and in class we were given little paper cups of pink liquid to swish but certain kids were told to swallow, the rest of us had to spit it out. This went on weekly for the entire school year.
I later looked up that study and it was about whether fluoride reduced IQ. Conclusion: yes, indeedy-- it reduced IQ scores in the kids who were made to swallow the fluoride mouthwash. 🙄🤦 I'm not sure if I got fluoride or the dupe but fortunately I was able to spit it out.
I care less about the fluoride than issues of consent in the study. As children, we weren't given a choice, it was presented as a required classroom activity with these random adults from local university.
That opening reminded of the Denzel in Deja Vu.... "All right!! I'll speak slowly so the people with Phds can understand me!"
I live in a rural area and have drunk well water without fluoride my whole life. I'm 42 and I've only had one cavity. I'm not saying fluoride is harmful, but proper teeth care is more important. My grandmom was 98 when she died and still had nearly all of her teeth.
The editing of the turntable durinf name pronunciation is deserved of a raise or bonus to the editor
Fluoride is toxic, but in the amounts found in tap water, it's harmless.

The PCC number exists on the back of toothpaste tubes for a reason. Yes, it is actually quite toxic, but that is precisely why professionals like me handle it. In the concentration we introduce it into drinking water, you'd die of water intoxication (yes, that's a real thing) before you see harmful affects from the fluoride.
