You and two other guys on Kemper forums one of which is now banned for useless trolling, the other sold the Kemper and moved on are not exactly "so much noise". At the moment is only you. Good video Andertons, POD still holds its ground :)
To be fair though, the criticism of the Pod over the years has been in the way it breaks up which you can begin to hear even in this video and the guys mention in regards to high gain amps. The Pod has a unique high gain fizz or voicing that many people simply EQ'd out in recording and it's weakness had always been how it behaves for mid gain crunch which can be heard here as the gain comes up. This is something the Kemper was clearly better at in the video and I don't have a Kemper and am not considering getting a Kemper so there is no bias here. There is no doubt in my mind that Line6 still holds its own today and second hand offers exceptional value. And something I find very humorous is how the public raves about certain modelling today (not in this video) that doesn't sound better than older modelling from Line6 and some others that they wouldn't consider.
Get a kemper. I have a POD and GT-100... they're not even close to the KEMPER. AC Vox 15/30 is KEMPER, however... not all profiles are created equal. Some are free, some are awesome.
Well they do clearly favor line6 stuff, but the modeling in Amplifire and feel are the most dynamic and tubelike if you nail the right settings and IR. Cleaner tones are easy for digital stuff, but on crunch and gainy stuff, I've yet to hear better, except for axe FX or, mayb,le, kemper. The only significant downside to AA imho is the need to really have a pc nearby for proper quick editing. Would they incorporate the tech into a doitall unit with interface with smart choice of default IR files, I believe people would immediately notice the difference when actually playing through it. It is a bit painful to program and truth be told Boss does have some compelling stuff with their Katanas and GT line of processors, if we look at preset availability and how friendly progamming sounds is.
I compared 3rd Gen POD X3L to Helix Native and there's no comparison; Helix is better and more flexible, by orders of magnitude. This was done on studio monitors, in a controlled environment, to ensure a level playing field.
Well the thing with modeling products is u can tweak stuff alot so I'm sure they could of got all of them to sound even better if they spent more time on it. The second thing is how UA-cam compresses shit ...
i loved the stereo output. ran it straight into my little stereo back in my old little room back in university and got basically all I needed to rock out and being able to play quiet as well. sadly it died on me some day, the only reason I dont use it to this day.
For it's age the POD sounded pretty good. I thought the Atomic Amplifire sounded like ass. Kemper should smoke the others for the money it costs, so no surprise there. Would have been nice to hear a BOSS GT1 in there (hard to beat on value for money) or a newer Line 6 product like the Amplifi fx100.
And yet, hats off to them for not being afraid to pit them against each other, regardless of outcome. So he can't obviously come out and say anything like "wow, that sounded like shit!" but he doesnt have to. The demo speaks for itself. Still I agree with others that the AA sounds far better in other vids, including on this channel so not sure what the deal was.
I too prefer to use the pod at home due to its simplicity. If you factor in cabsim off + IR pedal at the end the gap becomes much smaller and the only thing visibly lacking could be dynamics. Had the AA6, nice unit, didn't gel with it at all. Also very annoying to avoid clipping and needed constant atjustment to different volume levels unlike other modelers.
I still use one of the early "script" versions of the POD 2.0 with an original Floor Board. It's stupidly easy to find great tones in it. A point about getting great tone out of the POD is to use the highest Chan Vol possible to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
In the 30+ years that I have been playing I have found that no matter what I play through for better or worse I sound like me. So basically the best investment is in your practice routine. That way you can really sound great on a whole lot of different pieces of gear because you are as good as the gear that you are buying. Happy playing to all. Peace!
I agree so much...my bandmates always told me that no matter what new Equipment i was playing...after 5 minutes every new piece sounded the Same🤣🤣🤣. Several recordings proofs the fact. Its always a nice to have/i want to have and feel thing...
totally agree except for the most AWFUL amp i've ever played thru. that would be the Fender Mustang GTX. all the tones from that amp were awful. i felt terrible for my bandmate who picked it up when they came out like 10 years ago or whatever. thats the only amp where no matter what, i sounded like shit, couldnt hear myself, all the notes sounded 'wrong'. despite the thousand knobs and options we just couldnt get anything good out of it. thats almost my opinion on all modeling amps, i just personally like to plug n play, but some bandmates like having a thousand tone options and after owning the gear for a while can eek out some decent tones. differnt strokes for differnt folks
I'm 2 years late BUT - they all do the Deluxe well, it's when the AC30 comes into play that you can tell how far amp/cab modeling has come. The Kemper sounds way better than the POD and Amplifire for power tube modeling. When the JCM800 round starts and each is played once, you can really hear how far ahead the Kemper is. Something about power tube responses is very difficult to model and Kemper has more refinement in that department from 20 years of audio engineering. By the time you get to the Boogie models, you can hear that the POD soungs massively digital and the Amplifire has its weird midrange issues still but the Kemper's sag and clipping are miles ahead of both. Cool video!
Honestly I found Amplitube to be utter shit. Especially high gain, was just a farty mess, like a fuzz pedal'd sine wave. I use Bias for practice exclusively and it blows it out of the water in any gain stage.
Just picked up a POD for $30. Needed something for when the kids are in bed. Through a decent set of headphones i was blown away at how amazing it sounds!! And after watching a few of these comparison vids, very glad i didnt go with a newer and WAY more expensive unit.
I still record everything with my pod& bass pod. I don’t care if they sound ‘exactly’ like the models they’re emulating. I lost the manuals years ago, anyway, you just turn them on& they sound great! Thanks for the video!
@@VickiBlondie There's a switch at the back for either amp or A.I.R. (choose air) and max the channel volume. Now a tip: turn off the cab sim on the POD and use I.R. in your DAW.
It even shook Lee, so it had a little power. He didn't even react to it, which surprised me. I guess he's that much of a professional. Rob's reaction was epic, though. Good to see someone who will take a fart in good humor.
Pod wins in my opinion. I was convinced to buy the "dream rig" from another Anderton video years ago. Still love it, so much fun and tons of good sounds. Not surprised at how well the pod has aged. HD 500 rocks!

Alternative title for this video: Amplifire sounds like shit.
I'm sorry, but the Amplifire was by far the worst. I was shopping for a modeller for home recording about a year ago, and I gave the Amplifire every chance I could because I wanted to get a more affordable option, but this is exactly why I passed it up and just went all in with a Fractal instead. That nasty earsplitting high end fizzle. It's just there on the Amplifire and it's awful.
If I remember this correctly: the Fenders in the first POD were based on amps owned by country/ blues guitarist Pete Anderson ( who is the name on several Reverend guitars, which Andertons sell) and he still uses the PODs live.
Rachel Swift I have the v-amp pro rack thing. For the price, emphasis on for the price, good sounds. It really shines if you use a different cab modeler or impulses.
Still have the Vamp pro plus the original bean somewhere. Briefly used a Kemper , currently have Bias / Eleven Rack / Amplitube The Vamp pro hooked up through the amps effects return is still impressive so not suprised the Pod is holding on
Oh yes, I've a solo coming up!! Better change patch 2 seconds before the first note and stand awkwardly in silence to give the V-Amp time to do whatever the fuck it did between changing patches.
I still gig with my pod 2.0, and it works great. It’s mostly about getting to know the device and you will find what you need. The amplifire sounded terrible though
You could buy a POD for £50 and *still* be able to afford a PRS S2 for less money than a Kemper alone. And that combo sounds just great - as this demo illustrates very clearly. I feel sorry for the Atomic makers - over ten times more than a used POD and sounded really poor in comparison.
Is there any reason why you plugged Amplifire through the Phones output? It's stereo, and aside from impedance questions you've got one of the channels cancelled in you connect it with mono cable (or into mono cab)...
nobody who speaks proper english and isnt an electrician will know what you mean with your rushed typing. your english is better than a lot of americans, and thats their FIRST language. I just think you need to slow down and proof read.
I was shocked at how good the POD sounded! The Amplifire sounded like I imagined a POD would sound: harsh and stale. The Kemper sounds like a real amp but I wasn't shocked by that at all
The difderence IMO is what becomes a usuable option outside of the studio. Try hitting each device with a Morning Glory and Timmy and tell me which device creates a usable tone. Roll off the volume, dig in, blend a two pickup tone....the Kemper responds like the real amplifier in these cases, the two other devices just don't.
Love these low-end vs high-end vids. I always end up feeling the same, which is that the high-end always sounds better. However, I am still always impressed with how good the low-end stuff sounds. I like that, because it means I can sound good on a budget, but it still will be worth it to get higher end gear too.
I have both the Kemper and the Amplifire and, while the AF certainly has a tendency to sound quite bright with the stock settings and cabs, it also gives a lot of options to customize the tone by adjusting the amp/cab parameters and loading external IRs. It can sound a lot better than this, it just needs some work to get there.
Considering the price difference, it feels like the kemper doesn’t really outdo the pod. I’m sure it sounds different in person, but this video is making the pod look REALLY REALLY good
It felt like the profiles of the kemper were dialed in a particularly shitty way. Idk why they had to scoop those mids. It's like making it to sound bad intentionally.:P Still you could hear that it's pure quality.
Pe Peroni I just bought a gently used pod with powersupply from Guitar Center for $49. I had one of these in 1999 or 2000 and i spent many hours playing it with headphones. Thats the only reason I bought another one. I think the POD sounded the best too. Its great to use with head phones.
The original POD and POD 2.0 were much better than everything Line 6 released after them. Bought a PODxt after using the 2.0 for years and was shocked how fizzy the xt sounded. And every Line 6 product kept having that annoying fizz. Don‘t know why. But the original POD is still a great product.
Kinda funny, artist King Diamond said the same, lol. I only tried a orginal pod or was it 2.0 once or twice, then i got the xt. Thought it sounded like shit. Simply cause i didn't know how to tweak it. These days i think the pod still sounds amazing. Double or quad track the right combination of sounds and it can sound really really good. There's a lot of shit talk on products. The same people probably couldn't make a real amp sound good on a record, and there's usually the problem. You have know or "learn" what a good sound is. Once you get a grasp of that, you use the built in graphic EQ of the XT and just take those frequences out and there you go. Good tone.
After watching this video I ordered a pocket pod which is the virtually the same as the pod in the video. The problem I have with the Kemper and Helix is I turn and tweak more than play guitar and create. Way to many choices for me. I love the ease of the pod. I can’t tell the difference in recording either.
Same! I literally just said the exact same thing in my comment. It's so easy to dial something in that I end up getting to play more instead of tweaking and adjusting my tone.
I’ve been gigging with a line 6 pod HD plus and a few added pedals and have never been disappointed with any of the tones I’ve gotten. Yes, my real tube amp gets some breakup tones that are better, but unless I’m recording, my pod gets like 98% of the perfect tone I want so it saves a lot with carrying and setting up. Sound checking in different venues is always a breeze with it and can go straight through the PA so the sound people always love it too. I get compliments on my tone pretty frequently and when I tell them I’m using a pod they just can’t believe it. If you’re thinking about getting one do it, best money I’ve spent!
I own an Amplifire and it sounds absolutely nothing like what the video shows. You need to make a concerted effort to make the Amplifire sound as awful as they did.
Daniel Lomax exactly! I was wondering if andertons have some serious issues with aa guys!! i mean why would they do it!! trust me my aa doesnt sound like that at all!!! and i cant believe they r promoting shitty line 6 product!! omg im calling glenn fricker xD
The POD sounds scratchy and compressed like an AM radio through these headphones. The Amplifire is cleaner. But the Kemper sounds OPEN and dynamic by comparison. And, Arefin... The POD shown here hasn't been available for retail sale for 15 years. I don't think Lee is trying to push POD v1s on people. Well, OK, perhaps he found a container loaded with them that washed off a ship in 2000 on desert island, but that's not likely.
Glen over the top distain for Line6 is irrational. "Good Tone" is completely subjective. Glen doesn't like a Line6 tone. Fine. Other's think it's fine. There is really no reason for this video to show Line6 in a positive light when the Amplifire and Kemper are both sold by Anderton's and the Line6 isn't in production. It just is what it is.
Lee, you're not saying that the Amplifire lost because you still sell it at Anderton's, but the ol' red bean is out of production! Say it! ATOMIC LOST TO THE RED BEAN!
These vids just keep getting better ! And they already are awesome !

give me a definition of "the sound of the kemper" please :D i mean i made sooo many profiles of my own amps that are completely different, there are often more or less of the "kemperflavour" but other then that the quality of the profiles are soooo different ... i made more then 800 profiles and ther is still no alternative to it imo ... i mean i profiled all amps of the axe fx and the helix too sooo yeah ... i love kemper because they don't rip you off by saying "this is the best sounding device" and two years later they bring out a new one and say " no the old one is shit THIS is the best one" the ultra long product lifespan is just sooo awesome, i simply will never go back to products with fixed built in tones ... i love the Bias amp idea too! btw. ...
This one got me digging out my old Pod 2.0 , plugged it into my Fender blues deluxe and remembered why l had put it ( the Pod :) in the cupboard. Have recently bought an AER Alpha 40 acoustic Amp and thought nothing ventured so tried it through the front end. Could not believe how good it sounded. Very usable and though l might still end up getting some form of modeller at some point, l won't be rushing that decision as l very quickly found that l only really need 3 maybe 4 good tones which the Pod & Alpha deliver and as the Captain says can be dialled up in jig time.
have you played both? I have, last time i was amp shopping. the katana was better at low volume, better at high volume, had better models, and did more. I also demoed the code 50 and the line6 amplifi that day. (like 2 weeks ago). I was floored, the Katana just acted, felt, and sounded like 30x more expensive, and better than any of the models I tried. At low bedroom volume, you'd be a fool to get a thr over a katana. it's so much better at the low volume bedroom thing that i actually felt embarrassed for the thr
The thing I realized with the models is not to even pay attention to what they are calling the patch. Listen to each while you're playing, when you find that one that makes you pee a little in your shorts, then you know you have your sound. Then read it to know which one it is so you can get back to it. Because if you just go by the patch name, your affirmation bias will always screw you.
I can't believe you mentioned the Digitech RP-1. Over the last year, I put all my multi-fx gear in the same room, ran them all through a mixer, a power amp and cabs to compare them. For a good lead distortion tone, my old RP-1 beat the rest of them hands down. (Yeah, I was shocked too) Maybe there's something to be said about offering an effect called "distortion" instead of trying to model every amp in your favorite rockstar's basement. The RP-1 had a distortion effect that was simply "on" or "off" had a gain control (called "balls") and came in four flavors - I think they were "overdrive" "distorted tube" "Heavy sustain" and ... " " I can't remember the last one. That with a compressor and a 7 band EQ gave me a lot of possibilities and allowed me to get all the sounds I needed for my cover band gig. The other multi fxs in the room? Digitech GSP 2101, Roland GP-100, BOSS SE-70, Line6 PodHD500, BOSS GT-8 Rocktron PROGAP Ultra, Rocktron Chameleon, D V Mark Multiamp
For those who are wondering "oh I like the POD best"......I have Two Plexis - 50 watt amps, a Katana head and a AX8, when I have to go to a small event, I always go with my old POD, older version than this one. Never has let me down, it has an organic sound, no latency, sure it's not the best sound, but it's got something special that makes you play confortable and inspiring. I never use the POD effects they are not very good and can make the sound digital. You can also bypass the cab and use another cabsim that sure will improve the sound if you have a good IRs. I have tried many new stuff as POd HD, Fender Mustang, Tech 21, AMT, and many others, and I always return to my old POD., and Yes!, Kemper should profile the POD. .... LOL
I had a POD 2.3. It was an amazing piece of gear. Sounded great. Now I have an Axe FX II, but the POD... I miss the simplicity. It was very easy to get a great tone.
Nice work :) The easiest practical test to compare this digital units is turning down a volume knob a bit/half a way when you're on highgain/distorted sound and feel the difference.Kemper is the closest "tube sound" unit but it's not a tube amp,you can feel it live playing.I think the audience can not :)
As expected, the Kemper takes the day for the truest "amp in the room" sound. The sound reproduction was NOT very good in this demo, but we have to take it as it is. The POD held its ground quite well in most instances. In fairness, the AmpliFire CAN sound pretty good (i have one) ..... it's the most finicky regarding presets though ... i.e., it can necessarily take more effort to arrive at a sound one may want to use. Also, i personally think the AmpliFire was designed to be at its best in a DI setup ..... in an open-air environment, this unit i feel is more dependent on one's backline ..... i.e., what brand of power amp/cab, or FRFR.
Hi. I haven't seen one of your videos in a while. No reason, I've just been unplugged for a bit. Anyway, I really like the video editing, and Chapper's playing is more assertive. I really dug this video, and I'm glad it was the first one I watched when I, um, plugged back in. Thanks guys!
Adamnme01 I thought so as well and that was before sticking on headphones, twice as bad after that. I wonder how a higher spec alternative would sound though
Have to agree with this, Amplifire seems to have really awful cab simulation that doesn't work well with higher gain amp sounds and the mids end up flying all all over the place
EDIT: I was rude, and I apologize Chappers. I have an AA12, and with the right settings it blows the line 6 - IMHO even current stuff - away. It sounds to me like they scooped the mids on the Amplifire and are using some random cab.
The Amplifire has an IR loading cab simulator. Not sure which cabinet they're using, but it sure to hell not the right one.... I have an Amplifire and I'd have to *work* at it to make it sound this crummy...
Roland was the first manufacturer to add amp modeling to their products, the first processor that included amp modeling was the Roland GP-100 rack processor, it came out in 1994-95.
what about those sans amp pedals, like the tech 21 sans amp, which were around before 94 and modelled a few different amp types? Or does that not count for some reason? Im genuinely curious
Roger's guitars and stuff GP-8 and GP-16 were out way before that. GP-8 came out in the late 80's. The first floor unit I had was the BOSS ME-5, around 1990.
Thank you for this comparison, I am in shock, it was eyes opener for me. It showed how little we moved in 20 years in amp modeling. POD sounded better to me on clean and crunch sounds, it lost to Kemper only on high gain sounds. Also POD's reverb was pretty poor sounding so I wonder how much better it would be if I ran something like Strymon Blue Sky after it. Atomic Amplifier came out really pale in this comparison. I owned it and I sold it, it sounded same for ma as in this video, I was not able to dial any sound that I would really like. I even purchased Mike Britt IRs and although it was little better, still not what I wanted to hear, I prefer the sound of my Yamaha THR10. Mike Britt also fooled me because in his video with Amplifier he had it hooked to Atomic CLR sets the standard for Full Range Flat Response monitor and had a microphone in the room and it added dimension and impression that it sounded really good. When I hooked it to my mixer it did not sound that good on my PA system. Right now for practicing at home I am using Yamaha THR10 which I still like very much (check how it can sound just form the headphones out ua-cam.com/video/vWjUVQbHLnM/v-deo.html). For my gig playing when I cannot use amp I purchased Zoom G3Xn which I didn't like at first, but then one video on youtube somehow showed me how to program it and it was a game changer for me, I was able to program 4 basic sounds that I need: clean, ambient, crunch, and lead and for now I am happy camper. But I am going to save money and buy Fractal AX8, I believe it is still the best modeler on the market. People say it sounds and feels like a real amp. So for all gigs with in-ear monitors it will be the best solution. In January at the NAMM 2018 I played Kemper which was OK but for some reason I did not connect with. Also at the NAMM 2018 I played new Boss GT-1000 and I cannot give honest opinion because I tried it with headphones and all the factory patches were full of effects that I would not use, so I will watch demos on youtube, they just started shipping it so we should see more demos very soon. One thing that I liked was the new AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology, it allowed with guitar volume play like with real tube amp from clean to crunch to almost lead. But POD 2.0 for $40 is a worthy grab so I will keep my eyes open...
Went on stage literally yesterday, saw one guitarist using LINE6 Pod, no amp served on stage, so each of us had to bring our own gears. I used BOSS ME70, he used that Pod. We both use strat with 50's pups. He sounded better tbh, LOL. Hats off for Pod.
I had a Voodu Valve, it was amazing for those big 80's rock tones (the best preamp distortion I've ever heard), and superb transparent effects. I've gone digital now for the convenience of it, but the VV had the best tone of anything I've ever owned.
I bought a Line 6 POD 2.0 when it first came out, and that's what I still use. There's a bit of personal preference here between the POD and Kemper. If you really don't want it to sound any different from the amp you're modeling, go with Kemper. But I personally love how the POD sounds. Though I only use it for a clean amp sound and use 9 effect pedals, so, I don't need a lot from my amp.
The advantage of being 55 with questionable hearing is that I'm fucked if I can hear much of a difference. Thanks for saving me £1500 lads. Plan backfired!
I play clean most of the time. The Fender Bassman modelling AMP on the Line 6 POD Mk2 is amazing. After watching this I'm keeping it. On the Line 6 POD2 they created their own sounds, they too are worthy of great tone. Having said that I'm loving my Boss Katana 50, the tone on that is superb. I've got the Line 6 Bass POD too, sounds good to me, but I'm not a Bass player. If I were to upgrade, I'd probably get the Line 6 HX. or Helix. If budget was no option, it's got to be the Kemper. Kemper is King.
IMO would be better to get the sound from these direct. I know it's diaphragm,l but you effectively miced the "amps" (models) twice. Not to mention volume differences.
I wish line 6 would make an updated version of this pod! I don't have the money or the desire/time to learn the Kemper, and the Atomic seems to at times lack low end and just seemed to bright overall. After a long day at work I just want to plug in and go with maybe a tweak of a knob or two. Hate to say it but an updated version of this pod would get my money. Thanks for the vid.
Back in my youth I was on tour with Kiss in what was meant to be their farewell tour of Australia in 2001, (they've done several more toured since?) With row apon row of Marshall quad boxes on stage, of which only one cab for each guitar was live & real along with isocabs under the stage. (I almost snap an Ampeg 8×10 in half because if was fake when I went to move it) Walking back stage only to see loads of red rack mounted of Line 6. (Never seen them as a rack before then) Honestly I wouldn't have known any different out FOH. This was only after a few months of touring with AC/DC where every amp was real & switched on.
I toured with Def Leppard and Motorhead back in 2001, along with James Hetfields family (His mother couldn't make it) and we met Eric Clapton in Las Vegas at some broke down poker casino.
Pod holds it quite well. For me, atomic always sounds the worst of the three! So I was not too dumb to handle it when I had it for 2 days and sent it right back.
A lot of how people describe amps and modelers nowadays is how they respond not just in ultimate sound but how they respond to picking dynamics and nuances to the volume control. One would think the Kemper has more dynamics in this scenario whether that's the case or not I wouldn't know. I use a line 6 Firehawk that certainly has some touch response. Also a practice amp THR10 which is excellent
I've been in a room with an amplifire going direct into monitors and it sounded immense, I have no idea why it sounds so shitty here, when I heard it, it was as good as the amp a friend had tweeked it to sound like.
can you guys compare the new 99$ Epiphone Les Paul that was introduced at NAMM against the Epiphone Les Paul special i which is 50$ more I really want to see if it's better or not for the price
I've heard an Amplifire in person. It sounds way better than that. More similar to the Helix I heard it along side. Great for the money. Something is off here with the unit or way it is set up.
To my ears - POD being low-fi is not always a bad thing as it does'nt have digital hi-fi harshness. The Kempler sounded like it modeled the harmonic overtones of tubes well. Nice vid guys- always fun to watch you guys mess about with gear :) BTW the original Intellifex - no tone suck due to not digitising the dry signal, still my fav sounding multi FX.. yeah yeah.. I'm still an old 90's metal tone rack guy \m/
Use the kemper to profile the pod
dan abnormal Now that's a challenge!!!! Gauntlet thrown down, rob and lee your move!
Dimitris Martinis that's a great explanation of the way it sounds
absolutely spot on
You and two other guys on Kemper forums one of which is now banned for useless trolling, the other sold the Kemper and moved on are not exactly "so much noise".
Im starting this video with absolute dread that i will figure out that my 2k kemper sounds the same as the old pod.
ummmm. . . . did it?
@@sobrevida157 nope. I also got rid of the kemper since then. Im using a Helix as pretty much my only piece of gear for, well, everything.
I was going to get a kemper, but after this video, I'm just going to get 20 pods
Get a kemper. I have a POD and GT-100... they're not even close to the KEMPER. AC Vox 15/30 is KEMPER, however... not all profiles are created equal. Some are free, some are awesome.
And the sale of Ampli-Fires ceased almost entirely
LOL!
yes, thanks to those dudes...making crap audio quality reviews...
Honestly... the amplifire sounded worse than the pod to my ears.
A Pod vs Helix comparison would be more adequate, to see how the line 6 progressed over the years.
That'd be great
@@brandonanderson2066 can one be 'more' adequate? ;)
It's not as much as you would expect. Compared my x3 live to the helix. Honestly not sure the sounds I like we're much different.

Already own two XT and might even get a Live version too :D
I wonder if the Capt is about to sell his ;o)
considering that the one i own sounds like garbage.. i wouldn't really say so...
It's "vintage" now.
I've been seeing people as crazy prices for them already.
I never cared much for the Line 6 amps but the POD was a solid piece of equipment.
It has held up for it's age.
i loved the stereo output. ran it straight into my little stereo back in my old little room back in university and got basically all I needed to rock out and being able to play quiet as well. sadly it died on me some day, the only reason I dont use it to this day.
For it's age the POD sounded pretty good.
I thought the Atomic Amplifire sounded like ass.
Kemper should smoke the others for the money it costs, so no surprise there.
Would have been nice to hear a BOSS GT1 in there (hard to beat on value for money) or a newer Line 6 product like the Amplifi fx100.
im ashamed but i liked the pod best
I have the impression that Lee preferred the sound of POD more than Atomic but did not want to bury Atomic sales;)
understandable :P

"With more options comes more..."
And you can LITERALLY hear Rob starting to say "Resp..."
I enjoy these guys so much
I still use one of the early "script" versions of the POD 2.0 with an original Floor Board.
Oh man this is going to break the gearpage forums again.
Cool video!
All sound the same on my Nokia brick.
Someone should profile a Fender Frontman with a Metal Zone running into it
10 or 15 watt lol
Yes. Good.
I think that’s the insane setting on the line 6 spider
Rough vid for the Amplifire. Great job, fellas. Would REALLY love to see you bring Amplitube into this.
YES PLEASE. They really should do a video with Amplitube and Guitar Rig
I also recommend Revalver 4 from Peavey.
And Bias desktop !
Honestly I found Amplitube to be utter shit. Especially high gain, was just a farty mess, like a fuzz pedal'd sine wave. I use Bias for practice exclusively and it blows it out of the water in any gain stage.
Amplitube 4? Their Fender amps are really good. I have no opinion on high gain tho.
Just picked up a POD for $30. Needed something for when the kids are in bed. Through a decent set of headphones i was blown away at how amazing it sounds!! And after watching a few of these comparison vids, very glad i didnt go with a newer and WAY more expensive unit.
Your video are so informative and helped me and so many others to pick their gear
I even started getting my guitars and gear through Andertons even it's not in my country.
I still record everything with my pod& bass pod. I don’t care if they sound ‘exactly’ like the models they’re emulating. I lost the manuals years ago, anyway, you just turn them on& they sound great! Thanks for the video!
You can get the manual online. I did. ✌
Hey, how do you connect the Pod to your computer for recording? Thanks 👍
@@VickiBlondie
There's a switch at the back for either amp or A.I.R. (choose air) and max the channel volume. Now a tip: turn off the cab sim on the POD and use I.R. in your DAW.
Kemper profile a roland cube
Frank22 I've seen someone profile a sansamp
Kemper profile a Boss MT-2 driving an Marshall MS2
profile a peavey rage 158
haha!
@intheblues just did that. They profiled the Peavey Bandit 112 with a Kemper. Really worth watching.
And for 20 years I've never understood why they made it look like a bum.
No one is gonna comment on the fart around 7:16? Bahahahahahahaha
MrThomkids I was wondering why he was laughing so hard at that moment. I didn't hear it at first lol. good catch!
MrThomkids P.O.D = Petard Out (of) Derrière
MrThomkids probably too many burritos...
It even shook Lee, so it had a little power. He didn't even react to it, which surprised me. I guess he's that much of a professional. Rob's reaction was epic, though. Good to see someone who will take a fart in good humor.
That wasn't a fart sound, it was a choking on dick sound made in response to the comment that preceded it. 7:10
Lee really didn't want to say that
I'm sorry, but the Amplifire was by far the worst.
Crummock iPhail have you heard the same with the Zoom product line?
Zooms are highly under rated on one hand. On the other I fried a display window on 2 new ones. Just after the warranty ran out.
Not to critcize Kemper or Atomic, but POD sounds awesome for its price.
...and the winner is POD.
The guy editing your videos is sooo good. I had such a laugh when the ball flew in
Richard Harrold thanks
would love to see modelling amps vs the amps they are meant to be modelling
Pod all the way, prices just spiked on eBay ;-)
No shit! They're still a lot higher than I thought.
i loved chappers confession, love it i felt the same about the cab; a real 4x12 would be awesome
20 years already? 😧 Suddenly feeling a lot older now
I still love my Pod, too. But why not get your lift on and bring the actual amps you're trying to emulate to see what gets close?
I still use my pod for practice through headphones and through my computer sometimes, it's still a great tool
If I remember this correctly: the Fenders in the first POD were based on amps owned by country/ blues guitarist Pete Anderson ( who is the name on several Reverend guitars, which Andertons sell) and he still uses the PODs live.
And some bloke named Todd Rundgren
the distortion is where you can tell the shit apart from the quality
Yep, digital/profiling = crap & valve = quality
A JA totally
Who remembers the behringer V-Amp?
Rachel Swift still have one!
Rachel Swift I have the v-amp pro rack thing. For the price, emphasis on for the price, good sounds. It really shines if you use a different cab modeler or impulses.
I still have one... plus a pod 2.0
Seen one for £20 haha
Is there any reason why you plugged Amplifire through the Phones output? It's stereo, and aside from impedance questions you've got one of the channels cancelled in you connect it with mono cable (or into mono cab)...
It almost sounded like there was a phase issue with the Amplifire box.
nobody who speaks proper english and isnt an electrician will know what you mean with your rushed typing.
your english is better than a lot of americans, and thats their FIRST language. I just think you need to slow down and proof read.
Hey, i'm americun and my english is purfect!
Prodigy 1098 if you can't understand mono and stereo then you're dumb.
It can sound a lot better than this, it just needs some work to get there.
i might get shot for saying this, but the POD sounds the best here...
Nah, we'll just judge you.
Lol
Good tone.
Yeah, I agree. I had the original POD and then the XT and I really thought that it was more fizzy and not as natural sounding as the original.
those red bean pods are awful
After watching this video I ordered a pocket pod which is the virtually the same as the pod in the video. The problem I have with the Kemper and Helix is I turn and tweak more than play guitar and create. Way to many choices for me. I love the ease of the pod. I can’t tell the difference in recording either.
Same! I literally just said the exact same thing in my comment. It's so easy to dial something in that I end up getting to play more instead of tweaking and adjusting my tone.
Yeah, so that video really made me want to hit up ebay for an original POD
Ben FTI2K still have and use mine! 😂
If you’re thinking about getting one do it, best money I’ve spent!
holy shit watching these videos with headphones has changed my life
Awesome! I recorded my first album on a POD like that - so great back in the day :)
POD sounds quite a bit better than the amplifire.
I own an Amplifire and it sounds absolutely nothing like what the video shows.
You need to make a concerted effort to make the Amplifire sound as awful as they did.
Daniel Lomax thanks dude! I was wondering if it was actually trash or not.
It just is what it is.
the volleyball, the jungle music, the quirky cam zooms - whoever edits these deserve a gold medal
Lee, you're not saying that the Amplifire lost because you still sell it at Anderton's, but the ol' red bean is out of production!
Say it! ATOMIC LOST TO THE RED BEAN!
I bring the pod as a backup amp just in case. 20 years and works flawlessly.
This video will produce forum gold. It would be worth searching every link to this video just to read the comments on each forum.
Civic put it on a forum yourself and watch the comments come pouring in
These vids just keep getting better !
Yamaha THR10 has all of those amp models and arguably sounds better than anything modelling in the price range below a thousand.
Yup.
Yup. [2]
And the Katana 50 slays the THR for even less
Absolutely different products and concepts behind them. Katana might sound great, but it doesn't replace THR and vice versa.
have you played both? I have, last time i was amp shopping. the katana was better at low volume, better at high volume, had better models, and did more. I also demoed the code 50 and the line6 amplifi that day. (like 2 weeks ago). I was floored, the Katana just acted, felt, and sounded like 30x more expensive, and better than any of the models I tried.
At low bedroom volume, you'd be a fool to get a thr over a katana. it's so much better at the low volume bedroom thing that i actually felt embarrassed for the thr
I love the Soldano model on the Pod 2.3. Very usable for headphone playing.
There's loads of Pods on eBay and on the basis of this they might well be the bargain of the century.
I have tried many new stuff as POd HD, Fender Mustang, Tech 21, AMT, and many others, and I always return to my old POD., and Yes!, Kemper should profile the POD. .... LOL
who heard the fart @7:15 ?? ahahah
Romain Porquet Rob certainly caught it!
RiffsNReviews well, I bottled it and am currently keeping it in a cool dry place. 😂
It sounded better than the Amplifire
Romain Porquet I did lol! Dead laughing
Romain Porquet haha that was great lol
So glad I watched this I was about to get Rid of My FBV Longboard and Pod XT
'Its devoid of any character, a bit like May'
I AM DEAD AHAHAHA
No character could also be a character,,,lol, ;)
I missed the reference, what's he on about? edit: nevermind!
Kyle Goddard He's talking 'bout Theresa.
For those who missed it May as in Theresa may c':
That`s true, but at least she`s not a commie.
I had a POD 2.3. It was an amazing piece of gear. Sounded great. Now I have an Axe FX II, but the POD... I miss the simplicity. It was very easy to get a great tone.
The good, old POD sounded best. Hilarious.
POD will always be best for me as someone who grew up with Total Guitar using them for their song lesson demos.
welcome to andertons this is anderton can i take your anderton?
Yes you Canderton.
Bobo thank you my manderton
Would you like to come and see my banderton?
We could meet his friend Rob Chapmanderton
leeeroy57 Never heard of 'em but I'll come and have a ganderton.
Hi. I haven't seen one of your videos in a while. No reason, I've just been unplugged for a bit. Anyway, I really like the video editing, and Chapper's playing is more assertive. I really dug this video, and I'm glad it was the first one I watched when I, um, plugged back in. Thanks guys!
the amplifire had no body to it. sounded like absolute crap.
Adamnme01 I thought so as well and that was before sticking on headphones, twice as bad after that. I wonder how a higher spec alternative would sound though
Have to agree with this, Amplifire seems to have really awful cab simulation that doesn't work well with higher gain amp sounds and the mids end up flying all all over the place
yeah i'd have the POD over the Amplifire any day... but Kemper wins hands down.
Holy cow, the amplifire was super trebly
I had a Voodu Valve, it was amazing for those big 80's rock tones (the best preamp distortion I've ever heard), and superb transparent effects. I've gone digital now for the convenience of it, but the VV had the best tone of anything I've ever owned.
would have been funny if you did it blind folded :-)
THIS
POD prices on EBAY would have skyrocketed!!! 😂😂😂
Yeah, miking an frfr speaker is kind of weird.
1. Kemper, 2. POD, 5. Atomic.
The Amplifire is a monster. Here they purposely made it sound like ass.....which is hard to do--you have to purposely make it sound bad.
I can't stop using my pod line6 lol..For the money its awesome.
can you guys compare the new 99$ Epiphone Les Paul that was introduced at NAMM against the Epiphone Les Paul special i which is 50$ more I really want to see if it's better or not for the price
Two different guitars entirely. The new one has single coils and the special 1 has humbuckers or P90s
The new one is garbage!
Whoever edits these videos has a great sense of comedic timing. Makes me laugh every time!
